I have been searching the net for information but seem to have come to a dead end.
I am trying to write an application that will configure a users machine to connect to our wireless network. The intention is to help the less tech savy users. This application will configure an 802.1X user profile and also configure and add this wireless network to the preferred networks.
I am hoping someone could point me at the right direction. Apologies if I have posted this on the wrong discussion board.

HELP! Creating symbolic link to home folder for installer DMG

I'm in a bit of a bind. I need to create a symbolic link for an installer DMG to distribute a communal Bookmarks.plist to all the computers in my department. Unfortunately 'ln -s ~/Library/Safari /Volumes/Bookmarks/.' doesn't do the trick! While it creates an alias that functions on my machine, when that DMG is compiled and distributed from the original sparse image, the alias fails to link to that location on whoever attempts to mount the DMG. Any ideas?? Thanks!

Symbolic links break when you change the machine on which they were created. Use an standard Mac alias instead as I believe they will work as expected.

New HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn wireless installation

This is probably a dumb question, but I cannot find the answer online. I bought this printer because it was advertised as wireless. I want to place it in a closet adjoining the room where I have my desktop and router. I will plug it into the AC outlet there, but I do NOT want to run a cable to my computer or router in he next room. The directions seem to say that I MUST run a cable to the router for a wireless installation. Please clarify. Thanks,

As far as my info goes this unit does not have a wireless option, just usb and ethernet (wired network)

Installed mac installer.dmg Seagate GoFlex and drive and file names now in Chinese characters

I just installed the mac installer.dmg from Seagate on a second Mac so that I could use Seagate GoFlex drive with the computer, but now the drive shows up with its name and the file names in Chinese characters! Connecting the drive to the original mac has the drive show up named properly but a few of the files show up in Chinese characters. What gives?

I should add that these are the instructions I received from Seagate in answer to the same inquiry. I have not yet gone to work to give them a try.

I am sorry you are having problems with your Seagate drive. Let me help you resolved this language issue. I understand your drive verbiage is in Chinese. I would try reinstalling software, and then following the installation process in this link below in order to correct this issue.

Wireless installation with Smart Install disabled

I am trying to do a wireless installation, after being informed that smart install is disabled by default. The web site to which I am directed offers nothing more than the CD. Where do I begin?

I would like to assist you today with installing your HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer for wireless printing on your Windows 8.1 64 bit Operating System. Can I please have you follow the steps below.
If you currently have your USB Cable attached from your HP Laserjet to your Windows computer, please disconnect that cable now.
Next, please click here to download the appropriate HP Full Feature Software and Driver package
Once the website opens select the 'download' button on the top left
When prompted please allow the download to Run
Once the download is complete an extraction will Run to 100% and the installer will automatically pop open
Please follow through the onscreen instructions to install your printer
When prompted choose the 'Wireless' connection method
If your printer is not currently set up on your Wireless Network, the installer will prompt your when to connect the USB Cable to configure wireless. Do not plug in the USB Cable until the installer prompts you to
Once the installation is complete please test wireless printing to verify that everything is working properly.

If the update is an OS installer, you might want to consider moving it to a folder of an external backup drive for safe keeping. Why? Because Apple removes earlier OS versions when a new one is introduced; there are several threads here about not being able to download Mavericks.
Just a thought. I keep copies of all OS installers. That will come in handy shortly as I just purchased a refurb 2012 iMac because it can run/boot with Mountain Lion which I need for a couple of (important to me) software applications. I have a copy of an ML installer tucked away and ready to go.

I already read that it was not possible to switch off either 2.4ghz or 5ghz radio in the year 2009. Is it in the meantime possible? I would like to test some new wireless installations on Co-channel interference.

AHT on the disks is unreliable and can't be updated to match firmware and drivers changes in OS X updates, so don't even bother with it.
If your Mac is a more recent model, you can boot the machine while holding the D key down until something appears on the screen, but you have to be near your Wifi or on Ethernet connection to the router/modem as AHT is downloaded from Apple's servers.
If your machine is having a problem, take it to a Apple Authroized Repair or Store and they will hook it up to their diagnostic machine for free.
No problem.
And you can install as many OS X versions on one machine as you like, as long as it's a Mac.
OS X 10.5 is obsolete and insecure, OS X 10.6 and later are getting security updates.
OS X 10.6 has Rosetta and will run your PPC based programs of 10.5.
OS X 10.7 and later version will not run Rosetta or PPC code, unless you install OS X 10.6 Server (it's legal) into a virtual machine program.

Verizon Wireless installer for a wireless card not working. Help?

I have this wireless card from Verizon Wireless that lets me use internet anywhere i want. Its called the USB727 manufactured by Novatel Wireless. Bundled with this toy came a disc with the installer. When i tried to pop it into my iBook running OS X 10.4.11 it wouldn't begin the auto run. When I clicked the disc on my desktop i was given a .dmg file instead of the normal Verizon logo. When i opened it i was given two options the user manual and the actual installer. The installer logo was a piece of paper instead of the normal open-cardboard box. When i clicked it I'm given a window with the title folder actions setup, the setup doesn't show up.

Not certain, but this can fix myriad problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then reboot & try to install.

The main thing is, you need to install the VZaccessmonitor to get the right drivers, but after that you can connect through Internet Connect, as if it twere a regular modem. If you open internet connect, or the system prefs while configuring and setting up initially with the VZaccessmonitor, it will cause the repeating dialogues. I had to uninstall, make sure not to open system prefs while the VZ install ran, and then reboot--and the install had produced a new location for me.

HP Office jet 4630 Wireless Installation

XP operating system on old computer. Using netgear wireless router and USB Netgrear doggle to connect to the router. Attempted to install HP Officejet 4630 Printer. Got error 1603 /driver store/yeti/hpvyt12.inf error with message to say .... Problem installing hardware... Broadcom 440X10.100 Int Controller jumpstart wireless intermediate driver error. Tried the troublrshooter solution suggested it might be a USB connection to the printer ..... there was a USB connection to a Brother label printer which I disconected, uninstakled process and tried again ...... no solution got the same message again some 95+% into the installation process!!! I would suggest trying all of the steps from the guide below for the problem you're having when installing your Officejet 4630 on your Windows XP system. Afterwards you should be able to install the printer successfully!

Wireless Installation Issue

I have installed Oracle AS "Portal and Wireless Instance". I have installed the infrastructure. During the installation, I only selected "Oracle AS Portal" on the configuration options screen. Now I want to configure "OracleAS Wireless" too. How can I do this now? I am on 10.1.3.1.

8500 909n Wireless Installation Issues

I have a 8500 Pro All-In-One that I am installing using the wireless connection.
The iMac installed without any problems.
The HP laptop with Windows XP SP 3 goes through the installation process and sees the printer under the detection portion of the installation, it has the correct IP address listed, but when it is doing the actual install after that point it says that it is unable to complete installation and to either try again or connect to the printer later. I of course tried again several times with the same error. The installation process gets to 44% and sits for a minute, then goes to 50% and sits there for quite a while before jumping to 100% and posting a big red X on the screen telling me that it could not complete the installation process. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Questions on the Wireless Installation.

Experts,
We have a good number of wireless access point installed on our network and I want to make sure that these AP's are not conflicting with each other.
Why do all the wireless access points show me the channel as 1(for 2.4 GHz)? and channel 36(for 5GHz)?
If I run a WiFi analyses what does the singnal strength in dBm really indicate? Is -70 good?

You can configure your WLC for Radio Resource Manager (RRM) and Dynamic Channel Assignment (DCA).
The radio resource management (RRM) software embedded in the controller acts as a built-in RF engineer to consistently provide real-time RF management of your wireless network.
RRM automatically detects and configures new controllers and lightweight access points as they are added to the network. It then automatically adjusts associated and nearby lightweight access points to optimize coverage and capacity.
The controller's dynamic channel assignment (DCA) capabilities are also useful in minimizing adjacent channel interference between access points. For example, two overlapping channels in the 802.11b/g band, such as 1 and 2, cannot both simultaneously use 11/54 Mbps. By effectively reassigning channels, the controller keeps adjacent channels separated.

My wireless internet connection works like a charm with Ubuntu and the network-manager applet only by providing the wireless pass phrasse, but it seems like I can't get it work in my archlinux fresh install.
1- I installed required wireless_tools and drivers

You need to authenticate with your access point with wpa_supplicant. The only two methods that will permit you to have automatic configuration on boot are wicd and netcfg. Please, read on and inform yourself on which one best suites your need.
Just as a quick hint, save this code as /etc/network.d/wpa-home:

Officejet 8620 wireless installation issue

Hi, a few weeks ago i brough an officejet 8620 and have been able to use it over usb just fine. I have since installed wifi and wish to use the printer over the wireless network; however the print will not install. The driver package finds the printer correctly but wont install it: I have tried disabling windows firewall and AV software to no avail. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstaling the software (including restarting winsocks)
