Wireless interface for connecting ext.HD to MacBook

i have a Western Digital external harddrive that i connect to my MacBook via firewire since it has both my iTunes & iPhoto libraries.
i use the AirPort Extreme for internet & printer access
is there a peripheral that would allow me the same wireless capability as the AirPort for connecting my MacBook to the Western Digital external harddrive?
macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   nano

Linksys has a router (the WRTSL54GS) that has a USB port on it for adding networked storage to it, but as their routers have a spotty record when it comes to Intel-based Macs you may have trouble connecting or maintaining a connection.

  • Steps for connecting ext. system (nonSAP) via tRFC

Hi i need detailed description on how to connect ext. system (nonSAP) or program to XI.
    I need a RFC-Destination - what type?! TCP/IP?!
Scenario will be that we send a receive IDoc from this nonSAP-System.
Can someone provide me with detailed informations?! Which user-type etc., do i need a user....?

    Hi,
Assuming target system is your R3.
You need to follow the below configuration:
Pre-requisites for Inbound IDoc to R/3 from PI:
    Configuration required at Xi side:
Go to IDX1: configure the port.
Go to IDX2: load the DOC metadata.
Go to SM59: Create RFC destination which points to R3 system this is require in the case where your IDOC is sent to R 3 system,
    Configiration required at R3 side:
Maintain Logical System for XI (transaction SALE)
    Maintain Port (WE21)
Maintain partner profile for XI. (WE20):

  • Airport Extreme - best wireless option for connecting a Windows XP PC?

First post on this board - forgive the long-windedness.
Relatively new to MAC, not to UNIX / IT in general and, sadly, Windows.
As well as the MAC mini, my wife has a black MACBook, running Tiger and Parallels. We have acquired an Airport Extreme to replace the old 802.11b WAP. This works well with the MACBook, but I have had a few problems finding a suitable wireless client / adapter for the younger son's Windows XP PC, an HP Pavilion with USB2.0 ports. I started with a Linksys WUSB54G, with the latest drivers downloaded from Linksys. This worked well for a couple of weeks, using Windows Zero Config, after which it dropped out and refused to reconnect to any network, even the unsecure old 802.11b WAP.
The replacement began well, but then required reinstall of the drivers after every reboot of the PC, which allowed it to work. Eventually, this remedy failed; although other networks remained visible, the Airport one did not.
I will be taking the second one back! But I need an alternative.
Is there an issue with Linksys / Airport connections in general?
A colleague has suggested that an internal PCI card might be a better option than an USB based adapter, but he has no MAC experience.
Can anyone recommend a suitable card or an alternative USB solution?

    Generally no.

Yes generally they are better choice, another option would be an ethernet wireless bridge such as the WET54G which would require NO installation of software or drivers on the PC - it can be configured via a web browser.

Well, I tried adding commands like `ip link set wlp2s0 up` and `ip link set wlp2s0 down` to /etc/ifplugd/netctl.action in the obvious places, but no bacon. Not sure why this wouldn't work, since ifplugd is running as root... still tinkering...
edit: it looks like no arbitrary commands can be run in netctl.action. What kind of bash script is this anyway? Makes me wonder if I have [email protected] enabled correctly... but it seems to be working otherwise, so I guess it must be...

  • What is the interface for MDD connected to monitor?

I got an used MDD 1 GHz for child, which does come with any cord or accessories. The most surprise to me is its port for connecting itself to a monitor. I cannot find an interface for connecting it to the cord of the monitor. What is the part number or where can I find the interface?
I would appreciate any help. Thank you very much.

It has 3 possible connectors for a Monitor...
    ADC Apple Display Connector...
    DVI...

  • One interface for vpnc?

Haven't been able to find a solution to just this question I have, but maybe I don't know how to phrase the question.
In my laptop, I have a wireless and an ethernet interface. In one work location, I have to be connected to the wired network for most things, but we have a wireless network for connecting to a vpn (the client won't open the VPN ports ont heir wired network, so installed a wireless router specially for this).
Now, can I set my interfaces up in such a way that traffic fr the VPN goes over the wireless and all other traffic goes over the ethernet interface?  It seems to me like that should be simple enough to achieve,  but I'm just not clever enough to figure it out...
    CM

Just for further info for people interested in this, a pretty good write up on configuring this stuff can be found here. It's a little off from the Arch setup (for example, I believe vpnc *does* modify /etc/resolv.conf on Arch), but covers most of what you'd want.

  • HT2275 Do I need to choose "Share this printer on the network" for printers that are not connected directly to my MacBook Pro? I have two HP printers connected to an Airport Extreme (WiFi turned off). I connect by WiFi to another Airport Extreme w cable t

I have three Airport Extreme (AE) routers in my home network.
The main AE is set up for wifi access. The other two are connected by ethernet cables to the main AE. My MacBook Pro connects to the network wirelessly through the main AE. The AE in my office has two HP printers connected to it by ethernet cables. I have a Kodak All-in-one that is connected by USB to my MacBook Pro.
I reset my printer connections on my MacBook Pro and had to add all the printers back to my printer list. I don't know if I understand what the checkbox "Share this printer on the network" in the Print & Fax System Preferences window is for. My guess is that I don't need to share printers unless they are connected to my MacBook Pro by USB, so I should uncheck the "Share this printer on the network" box for the two HP printers that are connected to the AE. I print to them over the network, but they're not connected directly to any computer. I thought if my MacBook Pro wasset to share them and was shutdown, the printers might not be available to my Mac mini or Dell PC, which connect by ethernet to the office AE (which has the two printers connected to it).
    What should I do?
For printers connected directly to a Mac (or PC) by USB, check the "Share this printer on the network" box? In my Sharing Preferences, I check "Share Printers."
For printers connected to the AE by ethernet, UNcheck the "Share this printer on the network" box on my Macs (& PCs?) when I add the printers to my printer list? In my Sharing Preferences, I UNcheck "Share Printers?"

Question is - will the 2 networks (using auto channel negotiations) exist well in the same house or will there be interference?
Things will be fine since the AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme will automatically search for a good wireless channel. If you assign a separate name for the wireless network, then devices will need to log in separately to this network. The extending device will need to be configured in Bridge Mode.
My suggestion would be to configure what is known as a "roaming" network in your question #2. In this case, you would assign the same wireless network name, security and password settings to the extending device and configure it in Bridge Mode.
The advantage to #2 is that you will be able to walk your laptop from a location near the Time Capsule and as you move close to the extending device, the laptop will automatically switch to pick up the stronger signal from the extending AirPort.
You are actually creating a separate network in #2, so you have the advantage of maximum bandwidth for both the TC network and the AirPort network.
Question - does the Airport Express have to be directly connected to the TC or can that connected be through a switched network?
I'm assuming that you are asking about an Ethernet switch here, correct?  The AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme can connect to the Ethernet switch, or directly back to a LAN port on the Time Capsule, whichever is easier to setup.
Question 2 - assuming I can connect the Airport Express to the TC over a switched network, will "extending" the network using the Ethernet network still reduce my overall wireless bandwidth?
Connecting the remote device using Ethernet is by far the best way to extend a wireless network because it maintains maximum bandwidth on the network. This is the way that any good commercial network is designed.
Post back if you need any tips to get things setup.

After trying lots I found now in 'Airport Utility is 'unable to detect any airport wireless devises.....'

Can you enlighten me what can I do I need to use my e-mail program urgently !!!
    Thanks for your help

I'm not sure what "IPS wireless" is, but unless you have an Apple Wi-Fi base station (such as a Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, or AirPort Express), AirPort Utility won't see anything.
You might try defining a new SMTP server to see if that will work any better.

  • SDI interface for Mac to connect to SE-800DV

I have three MacBook Pros (all with HDMI out) and a MacPro desktop (two HDMIs). I also own a DataVideo SE-800DV video switcher which allows you to connect a PC to it to overlay graphics for titling, animation, etc.
Does anyone have any experience putting a MBP/MacPro together with an SE-800DV for this purpose?
Can anyone recommend an SDI interface for the Mac...an inexpensive but effective one preferably!? (And preferably something external that I can use with one of the MBPs.)
    Thanks for any help.

What application were you planning to use for the CG?

I actually don't know. I had been looking for options but didn't find many. Then I was thinking about using Keynote -- you can access layouts by page number and include animated portions with text. Note sure if that makes sense but would love any other suggestions.

  • New Macbook Pro (10.6.6) drops airport, "looking for connections"

Ok, I do shope somene can help as I am getting very frustrated here.
I just replaced my trusty ibook G4 with a new macbook pro. I have had problems with the airport connection on the macbook-- it keeps dropping the wireless network and saying "looking for connections" every second or two. I can't sync my 1st gen apple tv, and I think the problems may be related. In any case, I had the same problem on my imac G5 when I first got it-- it was completely unusable for a while, and finally a genius at the apple store gave me a fix that involved deleting some preference file, saying that the imac was constantly trying to find a stronger connection and switching between other networks I had used.
Unfortunately, 1) I don't remember the exact fix, and 2) I have not hooked up to nay other network, so I don;t know why it would be looking. I have required it to ask for permission to switch networks as well, but I guess that doesn't stop it from looking.
Can anyone help me figure out how to get it to stick with the assigned network & leave the others alone?
If anyone also has any idea why the apple tv can't connect that might be different, that would also be helpful-- it's telling me I might have port 3389 blocked by a firewall, but I don't, and it was connecting earlier (though it was slow). I can't get a sync on wireless or ethernet.
    Thanks.

    Clare in Chi wrote:

It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
    1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try. Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them. If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.
Can anyone help me figure out how to get it to stick with the assigned network & leave the others alone?
Open the Network panel of System Preferences, click the lock to authenticate if it's "closed", select the AirPort connection item, and click the "Advanced" button. Click on each of the nearby networks that aren't yours and click the minus sign.
If anyone also has any idea why the apple tv can't connect
I'm not sure what to suggest about that.
