Wireless is coming through a LAN port

Just got broadband, and there tech support has done something to my computer that now my wireless signal comes through a lan port and not the wireless port.
Anyone know how to fix this?

The whole story is a little bit confusing for me. How you know that you are on WLAN now?
If you are on WLAN remove the LAN cable from the laptop and test connection to the Internet. Otherway disable WLAN card using FN+F8 key combination (or just using WLAN switch) and connect LAN cable again. You should be able to use Internet as before.
Maybe you have LAN and WLAN connectivity at the same time and you are a little bit confused now.

  • Can an AEBS extend a wireless network and provide 3 LAN ports?

I have just reorganised my wireless network by replacing an AEBS GigE (MC053B/A) {AEBS1} with an AEBS Sim Dual-Band II (MC340B/A) {AEBS2}. Whereas before I used an AE G {AE1} to provide a dedicated G wireless network and bridged it via LAN to AESB1, which was configured for 5GHz N only, the new setup is all taken care by AEBS2.
    The setup is basically this:
    AEBS2:
    - Internet gateway with shared IP from the cable modem.
    - all client wireless connections are made to AEBS2, no other base station will accept client wi-fi.
    - provides separate 5GHz N and 2.4GHz B/G networks with WPA2 authentication
    - performs all DHCP assignment
    - uses MAC address access control
    - allows networks to be extended
    AE1:
    - set to 'join' the G network for AirTunes
    *AE N* {AE2} :
    - set to extend N network but no wireless clients: this enables the LAN port to be used to connect to my FreeSat HD TV's ethernet port, for upcoming BBC iPlayer support.
    *Wi-Fi clients:*
    - Various client devices all connect via N or G to AEBS2
    This all works just fine.
The problem I have is with AEBS1. I have a Mac Min Core Duo that only has G wireless. I would like to configure AEBS1 to extend the N network so that its LAN ports can be used by the Mac Mini (and turn off the Mini's wi-fi). The idea is similar to what I've done with AE2: no wireless clients, just LAN.
I've restored AEBS1 to default settings and then configured it to 'extend' the N network with no wireless clients.
While testing I find that AEBS1 connects to the N network but only for 70 seconds, it then disconnects for 31 seconds, after which it reconnects. This cycle is predictable and I've monitored it from an iMac PINGing AEBS1's wireless IP address while following the ethernet (en0) status in the Console app on a LAN attached MacBook.
The MacBook gets its DHCP assigned IP address from AEBS2 when AEBS1's connection is up, but the IP address is dropped as soon as AEBS1 drops the connection.
The MacBook quite happily connects when I tested it using AE2's LAN port.
So either AEBS1 has a problem, or AEBS2, or both.
Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Thanks Bob. I've read extensively here of the limits of 5GHz, but I've not experienced these as my house doesn't have solid (concrete) floors or (many brick) walls. I also have the main WiFi point upstairs and I've put AEBS2 upside down on its 'head' near the floor.
I'm able to get good Wi-Fi throughout the house on both N and G. The Apple TV, which is under the TV and near AE2 gets good N connectivity. Mainly, the worse WiFi device is the Mac Mini and it always has been.
Since AE2 can join/extend the 5GHz N network and it is downstairs, I think there is some problem with with how AEBS1 tries to extend 5GHz N networks. BTW AEBS1 is on my desk and AEBS2 is under the desk about 1m away.
For the moment I've set AEBS2 to "802.11n only (5 GHz) - 802.11b/g/n" and have AEBS1 set to extend the 2.4GHz b/g/n network. At least the Mac Mini will get 2.4GHz N some of the time and more consistent connectivity all of the time.

  • X61 Thinkpad. Inserting power cable Stops Sound coming through the Jack Port

A very confusing Situation has arisen for me with my new(ish) x61 Thinkpad. When I connect power to the device Audio stops coming through my external speakers plugged into the microphone jack, And instead plays on the onboard speakers. It will remain like this until I disconnect power.
I have no idea what has caused this and sofar all my Google searching hasn't Given me any relevant information, So any idea's or solutions you may have are greatly welcome and appreciated.

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region. If it's a European model, you could check the Toshiba Europe forums.

  • How to unbundling binary structure coming through the serial port

    Hi to all
I have a board that is transmitting a binary stream. This stream is a structure repeated constantly ... the payload of this structure looks like this

  • I want to know if Ican connect a print server (to print with several wireless printers) to the new airport express given that it has wan and lan ports. Tks!

The print server that I want to connect allows me to choose among 2 usb printers and 01 serail port printer. It needs to be connected to a router through a lan port. Given that the all new airport express now come with a wan and a lan port, i want to know if I can connect this device to the airport express.

    You're welcome.
Beware that while USB print servers are commonly available and inexpensive, finding one with a serial port is more of a challenge. Apple Stores in the US do not sell them. Call the iStore before going there.
If you need recommendations for obtaining a print server with a serial port, let me know.

  • WRT330N Lan ports stopped working!

Randomly stopped working. tried a hard reset, tried flashing...the wireless works, but the 4 lan ports don't.
    Help?

Have you tried to connect the Ethernet Cable Directly from the Modem to the Computer and check if your computer is able to go Online? If its still the same problem, then i think it might be the problem with the Ethernet Card of your Computer.
If it works fine, then again you need to Hardwired your computer to the Router and on your Computer you need to change some settings ....
These settings are for Windows XP OS :
Click on the Start button >>> Control Panel >> Network Connections >> Right click on the ""Local Area Connection"" icon and select properties-Here click on the "Configure" button- Click on the "Advanced" tab- In the "Property" box highlight Link speed and duplex/Connection type/Network or Media type- And in the "Value" box select 10 Mbps half duplex/ 10 base T/10 base half mode and click on OK..
These settings are for Vista OS :
Click on the Start button >>> Control Panel >> Network and Sharing center >>Left hand side under task Click on manage wireless network >> Right click on the ""Local Area Connection"" icon and select properties-Here click on the "Configure" button- Click on the "Advanced" tab- In the "Property" box highlight Link speed and duplex/Connection type/Network or Media type- And in the "Value" box select 10 Mbps half duplex/ 10 base T/10 base half mode and click on OK..
Once you are done with these settings, when if it still shows you Cable is Unpluged or its Connected.

  • Connecting multiple devices to Lan ports on airport

Hi, I have an Airport Base Station where I need multiple devices connected to through LAN cables. In short it is a) Apple TV and b) External TV providers box.
When I plug in the Apple TV to the first LAN port it works great, and I then connect the external TV providers box to the second lan port, and now it won't connect to the internet.
If I turn these around, then the apple TV won't connect, but the box will connect.
The station is set-up in bridge mode, and when I switch it to DHCP/NAT, then I get an error "doubble NAT".
What do I need to do to get both devices working at the same time when connected through the LAN ports?

If this is the device that you have........http://www.technicolor.com/en/solutions-services/connected-home/modems-gateways/ xdsl-modems-gateways/tg799vac-xtream  ........then it is a gateway type of device that combines a modem and router in one package.
The Time Capsule must connect to a device like this using the "Off (Bridge Mode)" setting to avoid errors on the network. Make sure that the Ethernet cable from the Technicolor gateway connects to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule.
If the Off (Bridge Mode) setting does not work, I would suggest that you reset the Time Capsule back to factory default settings and then set it up again.
Are you still using the OS X (10.4.9) operating system that you indicate in your profile?  If yes, you would need a much more up to date operating system to work with the Time Capsule.
If resetting the Time Capsule and setting it up again does not work, then I would recommend that you contact Apple Support for more assistance. Click on the flag of your country on this link:

  • I have Fios. I have the TC connected via ethernet to the Fios router. TC WAN port ethernet to Fios Lan port. Then I just have the TC create a wireless network that is different than the Fios wireless network. How do I set up an Airport Extreme to the TC?

The Airport Extreme is a 4th Gen unit. I just want to keep the TC wireless name to go further through my house.

The Ethernet connection will be from one of the LAN <-> ports on the TC to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the AirPort Extreme.
Then you can use AirPort Utility - Manual Setup to configure the AirPort Extreme as follows:
Click the Wireless tab located just below the row of icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network (Not "extend a wireless network" as many users incorrectly think)
Wireless Network Name = Same name as your TC network
No check mark needed next to "Allow this network to be extended"
    Radio Mode = Automatic
    Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Same setting as the TC network
Wireless Password = Same setting as the TC network
    Confirm Password
    Click the Internet icon
    Click the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings and restart the entire network
Computers on the TC network will now be able to move to the area where the AirPort Extreme is located and not have to "switch" networks. This is known as a "roaming" network.

  • How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver. I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. thanks

How can I play music on my macbook pro (OSX Lion) through a Pioneer receiver? I've connected them with a mini display port to HDMI cable with audio support bought at the Apple Store, but there's no sound coming through. There are 4 HDMI-in ports on the receiver - BD, DVD, DVR/BDR and audio. In my system preferences for sound, the receiver doesn't show up as an output option. Can anyone please advise. (ps, this is my first time posting a question, so I hope I can find your answers!) thanks, JP downunder

For sound, try the audio output port and connecting to the RCA  audio input ports on your Pioneer receiver.  Use something like this:

  • LAN ports not working but wireless is fine

Just purchased AE to use with my Zoom comcast modem (no router function on the modem).  The wireless function is working flawlessly but I am not able to get IP addresses to hardware attached to the AE via the LAN ports.  I've cycled and reset until I'm blue in the face!  Any recommendations are greatly appreciated!

There are no settings to check. The Ethernet ports are enabled by default when the AirPort is operating correctly.
As a last resort, you could reset the AirPort back to default settings and then set it up again if you have the time.  Hold in the reset button on the back of the AirPort for 8-10 seconds and release, than allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart.  Then, set it up again and check the Ethernet ports.
I assume that you have checked to make sure that you have a good Ethernet cable.

What do you mean it did not work!  What were the results of the diagnostic tests?
Have you contacted your ISP to determine if the problem is on their end?
Have you changed your router channel?  Sometimes this resolves wireless problems.

  • Can't access server via RDC through one of the LAN port among two.

    Hello!!
I have a window 2008 server with two LAN port. First with public IP Address and Second with Private IP for internal connection (no gateway IP Address). I'm able to connect server via RDC via public IP but not via Private IP.
Pls suggest how can I troubleshoot for dual connectivity through RDC.
    Regards,
    nts007

I have seen this issue with multihomed systems.  I would verify connectivity from the client first.
    1. Can you Ping the private IP from the client?
    If the pings are unsuccessful...
Are your client and server IP on the same subnet
I have run into this problem on multihomed servers.  Because the default gateway points to a router on the public IP, return traffic from the server might be being sent to the default gateway.
To solve this you will need to use the route add command to tell the server to send the return traffic to a router through the private IP.
    2. If you could ping the IP, I would make sure you can reach the RDP port on the internal IP
From a command prompt can you make a connection to the rdp port (3389 by default)?
    telnet privateip 3389
If you can you will get a screen with the cursor at the top right if you can't it will say "Could not open connection"
If you could not connect to the port, then check to see if the Windows firewall might be preventing the connection.
    3.  If that doesn't work then I'd follow Milo's advice and use Netmon.  You might have to run it from the client and the server to get a full understanding of the issue.

  • W7 PCs on router LAN port can not find Wireless connected OJ Pro 8500A Plus following router upgrade

My Broadband Supplier has replaced my internet router with a new one with dual N band Wireless and GigE LAN ports. The 8500A printer has been successfully WPA wirelessly connected and works fine with a wireless connected Sony windows 7 laptop and Apple devices.  However neither of the Dell LAN connected windows 7 desktop PCs or the same Sony laptop when connected to a LAN port on the router can find the printer.  I have tried reinstalling the printer software with the latest version from the HP site OJ8500_A910_1315 and the installation fails as network environment checker can not find the printer. I have run the HP network diagnostics with both firewalls in the PC and router disabled with no success. The LAN itself seems to be working OK as the PCs can see each other, exchange files and and can access the internet.  The router has been checked by the broadband supplier technical uupport.  The printer is visible as a network connected device in Windows explorer so you would expect the HP software to see it. Is the only option to fix the printers IP address and use that in the installion procedure or are there other settings I can alter to get the HP network environment checker to work properly?  Thoughts would be appreciated.
    This question was solved.

In the router settings look for "wireless isolation", "AP isolation" or the like and make sure it is DISABLED.  This setting disables communication between the wired and wireless clients.

  • When using an airport extreme to extend a wireless modern, will the lan ports work?

When using an airport extreme to extend a wireless modern, will the lAN ports work?

The AirPort Extreme can extend the wireless signal from another Apple wireless router. When it does, the Ethernet ports on the extending AirPort router are enabled.
Apple's "extend" feature appears to be a proprietary Apple function, so it would be extremely unlikely that an AirPort Extreme...or any other Apple router....could extend a 3rd party router product wirelessly....if that is really what you are asking here.

  • Connecting two airport extreme through lan-ports?

    Hi,
New to the Airport Extreme and as I am reading up on it I can see that one can extend the network from one to another...
Now we have an ISP coming in with one point and five IP's in total
we have several Airport Extremes, a few with special service on them like printer, time capsule etc
Now, the building stops the signal from reaching all places, but we do have wire
would it be possible to use two separate AE's using one public IP each as the WAN, i.e. -> Internet
but connecting them together via the LAN ports to be able to share common resources?
or must I connect the WAN of one to the a LAN port of the other?

Normally we would not advise people to use Apple routers which are definitely home/domestic for a business use with a block of IP addresses which is not so easy to setup.
Anyway what you are suggesting will work. The trick of course is that both routers have to be different ip ranges, and different IP addresses so the clients behind them get different gateways.. but since you are all on the same IP range then you can actually reach any of the local clients from either AE..
    Give it a try..
If you run into trouble I think you will need a single enterprise class router and just use the AE in bridge as WAP and print servers and whatever else.. 3 port gigabit switch??
