Wireless isp non-line of sight 30 mile radius
I am looking for a product that i heard that cisco offers. The product that is in question is a wireless non-line of site acces point that will cover a 30 mile raduis. If anyone has any detail or that can point me in the direction of what i am looking for i would appreciate it thanks.
You can email me at [email protected]
Thanks
That product was killed last year.
Other manufacturers make VOFDM equipment at 5GHz (specs for the discontinued product), but a 30 mile radius has many hurdles.
What are you trying to accomplish?

Get low/no sig at 20ft line of sight, even after suggestions found on the forum
FYI, I'm a network newbie. I have an XP wired to WRT54G, trying to connect wireless from a Vista w/ WUSB54GC in the next room, same floor. Got no wireless connection at first, searched and found msgs in this forum and moved the adapter to line of sight to the router 20ft away. I STILL get either no signal or 1-bar, although I've seen brief flashes of 2-3 bars, then back down. I've read this forum, and have done suggested fixes:
change the channel - either 1 or 11
beacon interval - 50
Fragmentation threshold - 2306
RTS threshold - 2307
Try B mode only
and it doesn't get better. No concrete walls in my house, but they are wood planking (105yr old house). Still, I moved to line of sight so I can eyeball from adapter to the router antennas. I understand a falloff with distance, but 20 ft is ridiculous! I also have no cordless phone in my house, and microwave not running continuously. Also, I can see that someone in the vicinity has a netgear router cause I can see and hook up with that occasionally (0, 1, or bars on that one). I have a big yard, so why the hack would I see a netgear at least 100 ft or more away through their's AND my walls but I can't see my linksys 20 ft away LOS???? And if I do get signal, when I move it back 6 inches out of LOS, down she goes. Again, I've changed thru channels 1, 6, 11 (even tried 2 and 3) and also done the B-mode without improvement. Logic says It's got to be interference, but I see the far away netgear so that seems unlikely. Should I just return linksys and switch to netgear? I'm frazzled and nearing my sanity's end. Can anyone pls help? There are many causes for poor wireless connections, and many solutions:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Also, do not set your router to B-mode. It should be set to Mixed, or in some cases, G-only.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna should be vertical.
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use. If your current network is not listed, enter its info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.
Some users have reported improved wireless performance by switching from WEP to WPA encryption.
If you continue to have problems, try the following:
For wireless g routers, try setting the "Transmission Rate" to 54 Mbps. For wireless n routers, try setting the "n Transmission Rate" to 162 Mbps, and the (wireless g) "Transmission Rate" to 54 Mbps.
If you still have trouble, download and install the latest firmware for your router. After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch. If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
Hope this helps. -
"HT4199: iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points"
this still didn't fix iPad connectivity after updating to iOS 6.0.1 !!! intermittent wi-fi connection, even with a direct line-of-sight to the router. Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Cheers, Tom -
I frequently get the messages "windows couldn't sign you out" (I am signed out) ,"not connected to in the internet" with prompts to sign in again (I don't) and "you're currently working offline", with a prompt to connect to my own locked wireless. None of these statements are true and I ignore the prompts (although my husband did re-sign on to our router once). I find that if I unplug the phone line and then plug it in again, it works. Strange. Is someone trying to get my password?

Converting Line item dimension to non line item dimension
I have some BI 7.0 issues.
For some of the existing cubes I had certain dimension as line item dimension - I wanted to add some characteristic to these dimensions. I am able to do this change and activate the cube.
But we noticed that the data which is a part of the line item dimension is lost. If the data set is small then we could have done a reload but in my case the volumes are huge, so reloading data is not a possible solution. We actually did the same exercise in BW 3.5 and noticed that the data is intact. We have looked into OSS notes and not found anything so far.
Kindly help me to find a way to convert Line item dimension to non line item dimension in BI 7.0 without loosing Data.Hi,
the only way to do is to generate a new cube and transfer the data from the first cube via transformation rule. A conversion within the existing cube is not possible.

C. Aslan. -

HP Officejet 6500 Wireless Scaning black lines on copies
Hello Dadbowling, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing lines in your copies. I would like to help.
I would recommend removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend following the steps in this document on Vertical Bands, Lines, or Streaks in Copies, Faxes, or Scans.
Please click “Accept as Solution " if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

1) sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid [wireless network name]

Hi My Macbook air isp is failing when i try to connect to wireless however other computers can acccess the wifi
. Can someone suggest what to do?Hello, gushingstream.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here is an article I would recommend going through when experiencing issues connecting to Wi-Fi. I would also make sure all firmware updates have been processed on the router.

Wireless keyboard (non apple) + usb receiver = wake from sleep?
Does a non apple wireless keyboard with its own usb receiver wake the computer from sleep? if so any other issues / concerns when using one?
With regard to the USB port, I have always had my keyboard plugged directly into an original USB1.1 port. I save the USB2.0 ports (PCI Card) for scanner, hard disks, etc that would actually benefit from the speed increase. I do know that the buttons on my scanner (for instant scan/copy etc) work perfectly if the computer is awake, but will not wake the computer from sleep.
With regard to programming the other keys, my microsoft keyboard has a preference pane that allows you to define different functions for all the keys. This came on a cd with the keyboard, but only windows version. Had to download the mac version from microsoft.com website.
I've never tried a bluetooth keyboard. Perhaps with next computer purchase.
When I was shopping for a keyboard - the one thing that pushed me to the microsoft keyboard was greater flexibility in defining functions for the keys. For instance, The play, fast forward, rewind, volume keys always access itunes regardless of what program is running, except for imovie, where they instead control playback. If I hold down the shift key and push them in imovie, then they again control itunes. Similarly, I set the "my favorites" keys to link to certain websites in safari, certain albums in iphoto, certain playlists in itunes, and certain folders in the finder or otherwise. This control was more robust at the time (5 years ago) and still functions well for me. Not sure if other manufacturers have this now or not. -
The bluetooth keyboard setup has locked my keyboard, none of the keys are functioning, holding down the power button does nothing, I don't know how I got into wireless keyboard setup, and I don't know how to get out. Anyone?
Hi:
I wish my suggestion had gotten you further.
I do suggest you try to connect the keyboard again. The request for a number is a step in it trying to pair. If it gets by the number, it sometimes takes a little while to get connected. If you are unable to get it connected and want a new one, I have been using Apple Bluetooth keyboards for years - and I like them. The one I have (the newest model) only uses two batteries and is very thin.
Speaking of batteries, if you are not already doing so, you might consider rechargeables. I have a drawer full of them and use a 15 minute charger. I go tired of buying batteries and rechargeables are environmentally friendly to boot. At the moment, I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute Energizer charger (all purchased new on eBay at a very reasonable price).
I am far from an iPad "expert," although I have one. If my suggestion below does not help, post your question in a separate thread in the iPad forum.
I had a terrible time syncing my iCal on my Mac with my iPad iCal (confusing - hopefully it makes sense). I quit using iCloud as that added to the confusion. There is a facility to one-time sync items. When you connect your computer to your iPad, iTunes opens. The system begins a process (automatic backup and so on). After it finishes, you can click on "info." At the bottom of the screen, there is an advanced section. You can select any of the items and then force it to sync. The iCal information from your computer would be deposited on the iPad.
After all that, I do not use a Google calendar so the information may be worthless to you.
If you want to reset the iPad to factory settings, you can do that when it is connected to iTunes (one of the options). Me being me, I try never to erase anything.

No connection on wireless ISP because of digital certificates
I have Mac OSX 10.4.7 on my 12" PowerBook and use Airimba Wireless, a Wi-Fi ISP that serves several college communities around the country, and had no problem with their connection or service until a couple days ago when I used my university's wireless connection then went back to my apartment and tried to use the Airimba service. I found that I could connect and get an IP address, but wasnt able to view any other websites or log into their service. Furthermore, I am able to connect fine using WinXP on VirtualPC when it is set up to use virtual switch networking. Ive been back and forth with tech support and they are convinced that it is a certificate problem. They are telling me to clear their certificates out of my browser/system. However, I am having trouble finding a certificate from their service to remove so that we could try to reinstall it (I looked in my kechain access and couldnt find any certificates). To make the problem even stranger, It seem that AIM can connect fine, but Safari and Firefox arent able to connect to the internet. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help.
Andy
12" PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.7)Limited or No connectivity message might be caused by the following:
The connection wasn't authenticated by the network. The wireless security settings on the router may have changed.
Solution: Reconfigure your wireless security settings both on the router and PC. Try changing the SSID and disabling wireless security (e.g. WEP, WPA).
Router may have locked-up
Solution: Reboot the router. If a reboot doesn't help, you may need to reset the router (30 seconds) and reconfigure it.
The computer may be connecting to a different SSID.
Solution: Verify your router's SSID. If it's still set to the default (linksys), be sure to change it.
Problem with the computer or with your wireless adapter.
Solution: Use other wireless computers. You can also update / reinstall the drivers for your wireless adapter.

I purchased a MacBook Air after hearing that it can sync wirelessly with all iOS devices. I then purchased the iWork office for my college courses and found out that the school requires online students like me to use Microsoft Office for Mac. An Apple phone rep explained that this software syncs in read-only mode with the iPhone. Is there really no way - besides third party software like Dropbox, Windows Live SkyDrive, or Docs To Go - for me to sync my homework between iWork on my iPhone and MS Office my new MacBook?
Go through this article: How to back up your data and set up as a new device or do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

Is it normal for changing your wireless plan on-line to be a disaster?
From my recent experience, I wonder if anyone should ever use the on-line option to change their plan.
I had a high usage month that caused me to go see what plan might be a better option for me. The on-line route is being pushed hard by Verizon, so I thought I would give it a try.
It recommended (and continues to recommend) that I switch from the Nationwide Talk & Text - 700 plan to the Share Everything Unlimited Talk, Text & 8GB plan. It says that my monthly bill will be $10.96 cents a month cheaper if I do this.
So back in August I made the change on-line while chatting with a representative on-line. The whole thing was a disaster.
First, my work email feature (Good Messaging) was missing, as was the case for my wife as well. It took several calls over several days to get that fixed, and of course there were additional charges for the feature. While the cost of the feature was actually considerably less under the new plan than the old one I never saw a lower bill; that $10.96 savings turned into $30+ of additional cost! No one has been able to tell me what happened there.
But the biggest disaster of making the change was that I was apparently asked somewhere along the way whether the change should be made "retroactively". Either I missed the question or what it meant was not well explained. The result was it was not done retroactively and I was hit with $116.10 of overage charges for switching to the unlimited plan on-line! (I can only hope that if I had talked to a representative rather than doing this on-line they would not even have asked me whether I wanted to pay an additional $116.10 for no particular reason.)
I made many calls to try to undo the overage thing. Everyone I spoke to agreed that it made no sense and that it should get reversed. Some months later my request was quietly (I had to make my periodic call to inquire about it) denied, which was the first I had heard that denial was even a possibility!
I must say that I am very disappointed in all of this. Is this normal?!Well thanks for the response, but I wonder whether you read my post.(?) It was because of the online option that I incurred overage charges, had my corporate email disrupted, and ended up with a plan that cost me more than I was paying rather than less, all entirely against my desire.
What makes it all worse is that I had to spend many more hours on the phone with Verizon to try to get this corrected and have never been able to to my satisfaction. A lot of time spent for an absence of service leaves me profoundly dissatisfied.
I understand that someplace in the online process a question was apparently asked with insufficient explanation that I somehow answered as, "Please bill me an extra $116.10." This alone seems like a really good reason to never use the online option since, again, I cannot imagine I would have had this problem doing it on the phone. Not being able to correct this errant answer is a sad statement on Verizon customer support.
