Wireless issues, system recovery - hp mini 1035nr

Hello, 
my uncle recently sent me his used HP MINI 1035 nr from US (I live in London). I tried to go online but learnt that despite the fact that laptop was picking up wireless signals, it was not connecting to any network. The problem did not resolve when I tried to use external Netgear wireless adapter as well. 
I took my laptop to PC world to fix the issue and they said that they need a recovery disc to restore my laptop to factory settings. I do not have any recovery disc and it seems that even if I had one, I would have to get external cd drive as this netbook does not have cd rom. 
so there are two problems:
A, wireless not working
B, no recovery disc available
i would really appreciate if you can help me in resolving these problems

Hp will only ship recovery discs to the original country where it was purchased.
Depending on the year of manufacture and OS installed you may be able to do one or more things.
1. Make your own recovery discs. You will need a usb DVD drive to make them and use them to recover. Some newer mini's can put the recovery discs on a usb flash drive.

W7 recovery discs
2. Recover the OS from the hard drive.
Over the years XP has many different recovery options and some do not have the hard drive recovery, see this page to pick your year of mini.

    I have the HP Mini110-1026NR with Windows XP.  I need to do a system recovery.
    Things I have tried:
    I have tried to use all the F keys-system either starts up normally or just goes to Bios
    I have tried to download the Hp Mini Image Creator and use that
    Things that are causing issues to need recovery:
    The computer will not shutdown or restart. I have to take out the battery. Issues with downloads making it hard to fix issue. It is slow, etc
    I have called customer support. They haven't been the least bit helpful. They refuse to help or answer a very simple question without paying 60$ today and 15$ a month for a year. My husband and I both lost our jobs. I recently found work online but I'm not getting many hours right now and have 2 kids so I can't afford to do this right now.  
    PLEASE!!! Any and all help would be much appreciated! I really need to get this computer back to factorysettings ASAP.

     I have tried again to do the image recovery thing. Here is what happened.
    I downloaded the file
    Saved to windows computer (also hp)
    Put in my flash drive
    Then while it was writing the file to the USB I received this errormessage:
    The following error occurred while writing the recovery image to the USB drive:
    Access to \\.\ physical drive1 was denied
    How can I fix this error to allow me to finish creatingbootable USB image recovery?

  • HP Mini 110 System Recovery Help

    I was uninstalling programs put on my hp mini 110 (Windows XP).  I deleted the Roxio back up software by accident.  Now when I start the computer I get a screen stating windows did not start properly and im given the options of start in Safe Mode, Safe mode for Networking, Safe Mode for Bios, Start from Last Known  or Start Normally.  If I start in any of the Safe Modes I get a string of information and then nothing.  If I start in the last know I get a flicker on the screen and then back to the original screen and if I start normally it seems like XP is opening and then the screen goes black.  I can't do anything else from there.  I understand I most likely deleted important software.  I purchased the HP System Recovery disk (no usb available) and I have an external disk drive hooked up but the computer does not start the cd.  Any help would be great.  I tried to contact HP and since my netbook is out of warranty I have to pay $59.  They won't even help me understand how to use the disks I just purchased from them.

    You will have to change the Boot Order and make the CD/DVD Drive as the first boot device in the same. Please find the instructions in the following document.

    Once the first boot device is CD/DVD Drive, please insert the Recovery CD in the Drive and Restart your Notebook. Upon the next Restart, the Notebook should start booting from the CD/DVD Drive.

  • Wireless Music System Issue in Windows 7

    I've been using the wireless music system for a few years and love it. However, I have an issue with it in Windows 7. all the software installs fine and appears to be functioning correctly. I did notice that the updated software driver does give me a network not ready error.
    The main issue I have been unable to solve is when starting the media server it shows it's running at the address of 27.0.0. not the address of the machine. With it running at this address the receiver never can find the server.
    I haven't been able to configure the receiver as I get a error message saying there is a problem with the wirelss network. when i do plug in the receiver, it lists the name I named it under XP. I am able to ping the device from Windows 7 as well as two other XP machines so it has retained it's address. When I boot back into XP it connects fine. I don't think the issue is with the receiver since when I go back to XP everything works fine.
    Does anyone have an idea how to make the media server run on the IP address of the computer itself rather than the local host address? I noticed also that in the properties for windows media player in the network section in Windows 7 it also shows that it is running on the same 27.0.0. address.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hate to think I might have to come up with something new.

    hi, to get past this stage of the instalation you need to use a usb wired mouse, this means a mouse that has a wire and usb to plug into your mac.
    the onscreen keyboard can be found if you click on the icon on the bottom left of the setup screen (looks similar to a wheelchair sgn)
    a usb wireless mouse or keyboard will not work because the wireless drivers are not yet installed in windows. they will install along with all other drivers when you open the bootcamp drive (can be found in win7; "my computer"
    in win 8; "this pc") and click on setup exe. this installs bootcamp on the windows side and installs all the drivers that you downloaded while originally running bootcamp assistant.

  • Hp mini 1035nr dc power jack issue

    HP Mini 1035NR DC power jack is no longer making a connection to the power tip. Voltage is consistent on the tip itself. Did not help that my wife has been using this for some time by wiggling the power plug into the DC jack on the side of the netbook and it would "eventually" make a connection. It had been steadily deteriorating over the recent months, and now I can't get a connection at all, the battery has been replaced months ago and it will hold a charge for 2-3 hours easily. But now I'm certain it's the DC power jack within the base of the unit. The power light immediately next to the DC jack no longer lights, that is what we would use as an indicator to know we "jiggled" the tip enough to make a connection.
    So my question is has anyone here popped open the unit to replace the power jack? If I pop it open will I have the ability to maybe access the connectors inside the jack to attempt bending them back into place? Must the whole jack be replaced? Is it soldered in place or possibly just a wire connector that I can easily plug/unplug? I did try looking into the jack from the outside with a strong lens and could see the metal tab for the negative voltage (external part of the power tip) connection within the DC jack but could not seem to bend it upwards when I delicately tried with a thin tweezer tip.
    Don't want to risk popping this open if when I get inside it's not easily replaced. I'm OK plugging/unplugging, but taking a soldering iron to the board is pushing the envelope. Or has anyone found a slightly fatter power tip that works in this unit from some other power brick that might get a better connection?

    It will need to be soldered if you do decide to replace it yourself. My suggestion would be to take it to a computer repair shop or contact HP support to see how much their out-of-warranty repair would be. The number if you are inside the US is 1-800-474-6836.

  • System recovery - notebook - Pavilion dv7 - Windows 7

    I have been doing a system recovery/factory reset on my laptop which didn't complete the first time I tried.  I found on a troubleshooting list that the wireless has to be turned on when completing this process for notebooks that have wireless LAN device which I am pretty sure that mine does but i can't get the wireless to turn on.  Any suggestions?

    We see a lot of posts regarding issues with Recovery. Wireless is only one of several causes. A faulty hdd, memory can also cause it.Have you tested yours using the F2 Disgnostics at boot?  I have even seen at least one poster who solved his problem by removing the mSATA drive first. Many,not all, laptops have the mSATA cache disk.
    If you can read the 25 character Microsoft Windows 7 license key attached to bottom of laptop , you can download a Windows 7 ISO file to burn to a DVD The version must match the one listed on the Microsoft COA sticker.

  • Questions RE: Using System Recovery Discs on HP G71-358NR (Options?)

    I bought my HP G71-358NR Notebook in Dec 2009. It has Windows 7 Home Premium x32/x64 ). I am on my second hard drive (had to replace in Feb 2012), and I do have the HP System Recovery DVDs (there are 2 of them), and the HP Driver Recovery CD (1 disc).
    Short version (my actual question) - obviously I did a "clean re-install" the first time, since it was a brand-new hard disk, so everything on the Recovery Discs was used, and I don't remember exactly what happened during the install. But is there a way to do a "short version" - re-installing JUST the Windows OS (or "repairing" just that) - so that I don't have to also re-install everything already on my laptop (which all seems to be working fine - the only thing is I can't do the Windows/MS security updates, or any of their updates at all - but everything else seems to be working as normal - I did get my HP Support Assistant back, which runs and always tells me there are no problems to report). I don't remember if the Recovery discs ask you if you want to "ire-nstall or repair only the OS" or "do an entire, clean re-install" or not.
    Here's the long version - as to what happened - in case anyone cares to read it - because it may give some insight, and since it involves 3 original HP software programs being "Uninstalled" - even though the HP Support Asst. is now back and seemingly running, maybe my problem stems from one of the other 2, and there IS something simpler I can do to fix this - I will tell you what I found that is "now wrong" in my laptop, how it got that way, and what I've already tried, obviously to no avail): 
    About 2 months ago my niece's boyfriend decided to "help me out" and make my computer faster, by looking at things - he looked at my programs, and for some of them he would ask me what it was and/or if I used them at all. He did not bother to ask me about the HP ones (which, up to this point, I had not removed because I did actually like them and find them useful - I had no idea he wouldn't ask me about them first, before arbitrarily uninstalling them). I wasn't exactly sure what he deleted at first (as I was busy chatting with my niece and sister). Right before he "cleaned things up," he also installed a new keyboard and screen. I dropped my laptop on cement a few weeks prior, and the screen broke (it was "blank" when I turned the laptop on, and completely unuseable). Also, I had gotten water in a few of the keys approx. 1-1/2 yrs ago, so a few keys didn't work right, so for any "major" writing, I used a wireless keyboard - so I figured that since I had to replace the screen I may as well also buy the keyboard to replace at the same time.
    Everything worked fine after he replaced the screen and keyboard - I used my laptop for a few hours afterword, then turned it off. Before it turned off, it installed 28 updates (there were so many because I had not used my laptop for about 2-3 weeks, from the time my screen broke until I got it replaced). The next day it was working fine, but suddenly I was getting the message that I needed to Activate my Windows 7 Home Premium (that I may be using a "pirated" version, etc.). In trying to figure out what happened, I noticed that he "Uninstalled" 3 HP programs/software. The reason I know exactly which ones is because I decided to just do a "System Restore" to the time right before he messed around with things. At some point in my "looking around" in my laptop, I noticed that the BIOS wasn't right - I don't know a whole lot about it, so I rarely go in there, but I did notice one thing - that a lot of information was "missing" - info I KNOW should have SOMETHING there. When I ran the restore from the function key (F10?) I think it worked the first time - I believe that may be how I got my HP Support Assistant back - but when I tried it again a week or two later, it kept running the same 2 things (the "hard disk scan" and something else, I can't remember off-hand) over and over and over - each time saying that there were no problems. 
    The 3 he "Uninstalled" each had a "Restore Point" (I'm not sure if he put them there, of if HP automatically does it, as a "precaution"). The 3 are: 1) HP Setup, 2) HP Update and 3) HP Quick Launch Buttons. I tried using the System Restore several times - each time, it went through all the motions, but at the last step, when it "restarts" the laptop, it restarts and I get the message that "the System Restore was NOT successful," etc. And it tells you to try turning off your antivirus, etc. I did whatever it says to do, and it kept being "unsuccessful."  I tried (again, several times) putting in my Product Key - which I KNOW for a fact is correct - but MS won't accept it. I cannot make out about 3-4 digits/characters of the COA - it's on the bottom of my laptop and they are "worn" to the point that I'm not sure exactly what they are (just those 3-4 ones, the rest I can read). I now know that there is a difference between the OEM-SLP and the COA-SLP keys (which I DO have a copy of the OEM-SLP key, from running a Belarc Advisor shortly after receiving my new laptop - mistakenly thinking that that was the only "Product Key" I ever needed - I was not aware of the COA-SLP, or the importance of saving it somewhere, until just recently, after all this happened). I don't really want to "change the Product Key" to the COA-SLP one, anyway, because during my research, I found one website that said:
    “COA SLP: This is the Product key that you see on the sticker on the side or bottom of your computer. It is a valid product key, BUT SHOULD ONLY BE USED IN LIMITED SITUATIONS (such as if the OEM SLP key stops self-activating for whatever reason). The key must be activated by Phone. (Note: All manufacturers that use the OEM SLP system are required by contract to include a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker, that has a COA SLP key, on the computer.”
    (Note, other than those 3-4 digits/characters of the COA-SLP key, I can read everything else - Model #, Serial #, etc. - nothing else seems to have rubbed-off)I have been troubleshooting (researching and), ever since this happened approx 2 months ago. I have run the MS Genuine Advantage Tool (have the printout), ran the "scannow" (whose results said, “Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity  violations.” - ? Go figure), and even one solution that said to "Rebuild the license store" - which again did absolutely nothing. I have tried every "fix" except reinstalling via my Recovery Discs. At some point I became suspicious that my problem, was, in fact, due to him uninstalling any or all of those 3 HP programs. Then I found an answer to just about my same exact problem on an MS Windows troubleshooting page - they said:
    “the HP OEM OS requires information in the HP motherboard to cause the OS to activate”
    then it also listed WHY - it gave a couple examples from what the person's "Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool" printout says - and those examples/results are EXACTLY what my printout says.
    So I'm concerned that one of those HP programs contained information crucial - that communicates with BIOS/Motherboard, and tells them that my Windows 7 Home Premium x64 not only exists on this laptop, but is also LEGAL. If that's correct, is there a way to remedy it (and putting back those programs/software) via the HP website, without having to do a clean re-install and lose everything? Again - don't forget, the System Restore won't work, either (which I assume has something to do with the BIOS info being gone?)

    If your BIOS is missing critical info which id's it as an HP machine, such as model,serial,etc it usually requires service from HP to correct it. I will try a contact I have to see if he can help. He stays quite busy so it may take a few days before I know anything.
    The fact that your Windows is requiring activation would cause the failure of Windows updates, etc since MS thinks you re running pirated software. The info in BIOS is what defines whether or not you are legally running OEM Windows. This is when the COA license would help, since it would replace the OEM key used to install at the factory -which "appears" to be running illegally now if pertinent info is missing in BIOS.
    I have seen it suggested that sometimes you can make out all of the numbers by focusing a bright flashlight on the COA label
    Removing the HP software you mentioned should not have any affect on BIOS info. However you can install/reinstall most software/drivers from your Support page:

  • Hp pavilion os system recovery (windows xp)

    hi,
    so im having some major problems when im trying to reformat my computer. first off i have a hp pavilion about 5 years old  that runs windows xp. i've had to reformat in the past and i have 2 system recovery discs that i've used in the past and have worked. however this time when i try to run them i get to the black and white screen where it says "preparing recovery partition" it gets about 2 minutes in and then says "wrong system disk or disk error, press any key to continue". after i press any key it takes me back to the startup page where i can enter setup, let the operating system load (which i normally do when computer starts up) or go to the boot menu. if i dont go to the boot menu and tell it to run the recovery cd it just gets stuck on a black screen with a blinking cursor. but when i run the recovery cd i get the said error message over and over and over and over...when i do go to the boot menu and choose the recovery disc option a black screen comes up that says "no operating system installed or corrupt partition, press r to start full system recovery". so after i press r it takes me back to the preparing recovery partition screen, where once again it gets an error after about 2 mins of loading.  im guessing that the corrupt partition part is whats causing me problems. WHAT DO I DO!? IM SO CONFUSED, i hope that by reading this your not also confused.
    please help!

    Try booting with a utilty cd to delete all partitions,create 1 and format hdd. I have had good results with the free Partition Wizard .Download the Bootable CD iso here .Get ImgBurn here to burn the image to cd.
    Once all operations complete successfully with PW, reboot with Recovery Disks.

  • Lack of Wireless Device after Recovery

    C855-S5247
    Relatively new computer running Windows 8.  Had some issues which caused me to attempt a restore which failed twice.  Wireless connection failed and when I went looking for a connection, there was no evidence of a wireless connection even existing on the computer.
    Will a system recovery media help find this connection or is this a hands-on tech issue?

    It's hard to know for sure, but if the system recovery doesn't solve it, it'll show that it's likely a hardware problem.

  • Dv9720 wont boot / cant use system recovery disk

    when trying to start system recovery, I get a 0x400110020001005 error and the system shuts down.  Is this a hard drive error or MB problem?

    It's the recovery disc that we've made.  If you go on the support and drivers area of website it explains this and says to order new recovery discs.  I am having the same issue and so have ordered the discs and hope they work!
    Mine is doing the exact same thing so it's almost like it's caught in a loop.  When I reboot I have to use F11 to get back into system recovery and then get almost the same error message.  Just a few numbers changed and I suppose that is b/c we have different notebooks.
    You can use ctrl alt delete to reboot and then also try to run some of the other commands..I went in b/c I am also getting bootmgr is missing and is the setup it wasn't turned on any longer, but it still didn't help.  Anyway, I am waiting for my discs and hope they get me going again.  Good Luck!

  • How do I restore backup swm files created during system recovery from external hard drive

    I was facing some problems with my laptop (HP Envy 17 3D Notebook with windows 7 home premium, 64 bit) and I had to return it back to its original state using system recovery.
    During the process I was asked if I want to back up my data. I have chosen to backup my data in the flash drive. Once the process has completed and my laptop is to the original state, I tried to recover my backup but it tells me:
    The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.
    If i click run as administrator it tell me:
    Windows cannot find 'F:\Backup_2015-04-29 143842\Restore.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
    there are files labeled like backup.swm, backup1.swm, backup2.swm. I can't open these files or do anything with them. In a text document it lists all the files it apparently copied. It is only a list of text, nothing else.
    any help will be greatly appriciated.

  • New MacBook Pro 13 i5 Wireless Issues.

    I got the new MacBook Pro i5 2.3 the day it came out. So maybe a week and half ago.
    I`m having intermittent wireless issues. I have done some testing and even replaced my older AirPort Base Station with the new Dual-Band one, but still seeing a drops from the network. I have a ping going to my router and to the ABSE. I tried changing the channel and using 5GHZ or 2.4GHZ. I also have a AirPort express and seen similar results. I tried reseting the PRAM, repairing permission, I did not reinstall the OS but I dont see how this would help. I think there is a hardware issue with the wireless card/antenna.
    I did upgrade RAM and HDD was changed to SSD (intel G2 SSD). There are no other issues, machine is fast, no lock ups. Other devices on the network do not seem to drop any connections (ATV, ATV2, iPhone4, iPad etc..)
    The network drop outs are short but are noticeable and if a ping is going I can see the drops

    I replaced a bad samasung hard drive in my Pavilion dv6z 3200 with a Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 32 MB Cache 2.5 Inch Solid State Hybrid Drive ST750LX003 and when trying to restore Windows 7 64 bit OS get the error message "this computer is not supported by the system recovery media"

    Is the new hdd at least as large a capacity as the original? Can be larger capacity, but sometimes smaller will cause error.
    Enter BIOS by tapping F10 key. Is all system info intact/complete?

  • System Recovery Kit for dv7-3165dx fails to restore factory image to replacement hd

    I'm posting this wall of text here in case someone else has any suggestions before I contact HP Support to see what options they have.
    My attempt to recover the factory image to a replacement hard drive in an HP Pavilion dv7-3165dx notebook is failing. An error occurs when SM.exe is trying to merge the WIM files. The SSRD.Log shows an error:
    SM, 13, Set reference file fail
    after that, SM.exe displays this message when run from a command line:
    SM, Failure, Can not load imagex 1 from src WIM file
    The following are the symptoms that the Recovery Manager displays on the screen.
    The Recovery Manager reads the two DVDs and after a few seconds, it pops up an error message:
    Reducer
    C:\RM\Image\TempBASE.WIM was not found.
    The message has on "OK" button that when clicked on, closes the message window.
    After that, nothing happens. No disk or DVD activity for over an hour. The mouse moves, but no key presses have any effect, including CTRL-ALT-DEL. You can use the mouse to move the Recovery Manager window around, and there is nothing hidden behind it. Clicking on the Recovery Manager Back, Next, or Cancel buttons produce no response at all.
    The only option at this point is to hold down the power switch until it powers down.
    When the power is turned back on, the hard drive boots and Recovery Manager displays a message that incorrectly claims "Recovery is complete" and has a "Click Finish to restart" button. After clicking on "Finish", it reboots but since the System Recovery did not actually complete, all it does is display:
    BOOTMGR is missing
    Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart
    Before attempting the recovery, the notebook passed all diagnostic tests.
    The 2x2GB memory cards, which still have HP stickers on them, were tested with Memtest86+ V5.01 and completed over six passes in over seven hours with zero errors.
    The replacement 500GB HGST Travelstar Z5K500 drive was tested with gsmartcontrol. The SMART status showed no errors in the past with over 400 hours of power-on time. Both of the SMART short self-test and extended self-test tests were run, which it passed without any errors.
    The HP System Diagnostics from the Startup Menu were run on the memory and hard drive and they passed those tests without any errors.
    While waiting for the HP "System Recovery Kit for Consumer Notebook (3 Disks)" Software Part Number 599357-001 to arrive, both Fedora 21 64bit and Windows Vista 64bit were successfully installed on the harddrive.
    Both System Recovery DVDs were read on different machines without any errors. This System Recovery Kit supports the notebook's System Id which is 3638, so they appear to be the correct discs.
    Now a list of workaround attempts that were suggested.
    After the Recovery Manager failed a few times with the same error message, some googling came up with other users mentioning the "TempBASE.WIM was not found" error message. I tried these suggestions that I read about.
    Run KillDisk to fill the HD with zeros.
    Running Recovery Manager after that failed with the same error message.
    Run the CyberLink Recovery Discs Utility (sp44645.exe).
    Running Recovery Manager after that failed with the same error message.
    Installed Windows VISTA 64bit again and upgraded the BIOS from F10 to F13.
    Running Recovery Manager after that failed with the same error message.
    Try only using a single 2GB memory card to see if it was a 64bit problem.
    Running Recovery Manager after that failed with the same error message.
    The BIOS does not have an option to change from AHCI mode to IDE mode.
    I don't have a Windows 7 OEM install disc and am trying to avoid spending $100 to buy one.
    That is when I decided that it is not a PC hardware problem, but a problem with the HP System Recovery Kit. Here are the details of what I think the Kit is doing.
    After running Recovery Manager and getting the error message, instead of just re-booting and letting the "Recovery is complete" message appear, I re-booted with a Linux USB drive and inspected what was on the hard drive.
    fdisk -l shows this:

    Running gparted shows about 200 MB of unallocated space before the sda1 NTFS partition. The rest of the disk is unallocated after the bootable sda2.
    The sda1 NTFS partition has a \SSRD.Log file and an empty \RM\Image directory.
    The sda2 FAT32 partition has the Recovery Manager application files in it:

    The SOURCES directory has boot.wim, and the TOOL directory has all the programs, like Reducer.exe and SM.exe, in it.
    After shutting down the Linux system and rebooting, the Recovery Manager then boots from sda2 and displays the "Recovery is complete" message and "Click Finish to restart" button. During this process, it removes the sda2 partition and marks the sda1 NTFS partition as the active bootable partition. When the PC restarts, all that is left is the sda1 NTFS partition with the empty C:\RM\Image directory and the SSRD.Log file, so there is no BOOTMGR to boot with.
    The SSRD.Log file logs the tasks that the Recovery Manager performs.
    The Recovery Manager runs some initialization tasks and then reads the two System Recovery DVDs. It then calls MergeWimFile which runs SM.exe and starts to merge BASE.WIM with the other BASE*.WIM files. SM.exe merges 20 WIM files with log entries like these:
    SM, Success, refName= C:\RM\IMAGE\BASE22.WIM
    SM, Success, refName= C:\RM\IMAGE\BASE23.WIM
    SM, Success, refName= C:\RM\IMAGE\BASE3.WIM

    SM, Success, refName= C:\RM\IMAGE\BASE5.WIM
    SM, Success, refName= C:\RM\IMAGE\BASE6.WIM
    SM, Success, refName= C:\RM\IMAGE\BASE7.WIM
    Then, with only two WIM files left, BASE8.WIM and BASE9.WIM, the log shows:
    SM, 13, Set reference file fail
    This must be when Recovery Manager pops up the "Reducer C:\RM\Image\TempBASE.WIM was not found" error message.
    That narrowed down the problem.
    I copied all of the WIM files and the TOOLS directory to a Windows 8.1 system. The two DVDs did not have any errors while being read. Running SM.exe from an admin Command Prompt with the same parameters that were logged in the SSRD.Log produced the same error message. There was an additional error message that appeared in the Command Prompt window:
    SM, 13, Set reference file fail
    SM, Failure, Can not load imagex 1 from src WIM file
    and the TempBASE.WIM was not created.
    SM.exe /? did not provide a help message. I could not find any documentation on the SM.exe command.
    If I removed three of the WIM files, (BASE7.WIM BASE8.WIM BASE9.WIM) then SM.exe could create the TempBASE.WIM file, but it would fail while merging index 2 of 3 with this message:
    SM, 11%, Merge index 2 of 3 Processing
    SM, Failed, Export image failed
    The TempBASE.WIM is 3,421,518 KB in size after that.
    This is where I came to a dead end and cannot think of anything else that I can do. Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but it appears to me that there was some kind of error building this System Recovery Kit and it is not able to perform a factory install on this notebook.

    Running imagex.exe on the BASE7.WIM file on the second System Recovery DVD:

    The data is invalid.
    The same error message is shown for BASE7.WIM, BASE8.WIM, and BASE9.WIM.
    The other WIM files in the PRELOAD directory, BASE5.WIM, BASE6.WIM, BASE10.WIM, BASE13.WIM, BASE15.WIM, BASE17.WIM and BASE23.WIM, could be read by imagex without any errors.

    Boot Screen
    Boot modes can be selected in this screen, you can disable booting from a USB stick or from a network for example
    2) Boot Menu
    This option is useful if you have Linux installed (using managers like LILO, GRUB, etc).
    If you only use Win8 or higher there 's no much you can change.
    3) System Recovery
    This option will allow you to restore the system to either its factory setup, or to a previous backup done within Windows
    A factory set up will leave the Y3P as it was shipped from Lenovo your private data and installed apps and/or programs will be wiped out. So make sure you have an external backup before such a reset
