Wireless issues with WRT120N

I have a newly purchased WRT120N and have set up a small home network.  Right now it's pretty simple:
Motorolla Surfboard S85100 cable modem>Cisco/Linksys WRT120N>AMD PhenomX4 Hp Pavilion(running Vista home premium Service pack 2)------Airport card equipped Apple Mac Pro( running Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and Leopard 10.5.8 on 2 separate drives- wireless from the router).  The Airport card is installed properly and working fine.  The router is in a centralized location upstairs on the 1st floor and the Mac Pro is in the basement(The house is not big it's 2000 sq. feet with wood floors...no metal).
The wireless to the Mac is what's important here.  It's in my basement home recording studio whereI previously had no internet  causing me to run up and down the stairs with usb flash drives for downloaded updates and software installs. I got the router to aleiviate all this exercise.....only now I'm back to it again.  In fact it's worse than it was!
For the first few weeks everything was great.  Wireless down in the studio worked great and I was able to download any file without interruption, Skype worked brilliantly!  Then...without anything being moved physically by me....Skype was poor and  Airport would be searching for the network asking to enter my key only to then time me out!?  To combat this I've had re-start after re-start, running upstairs and un-plugging the router, moving the router around, etc......and getting a signal when I'm booted into Leopard is even worse.  I'm just short of going out and getting a 40ft. ethernet cable and hardwiring to the Mac Pro but that is not only more money than the router and the Airport card put together but dashes the whole wireless concept(which is supposed to work!).  Do I need to get a better router with more bandwidth?(The salesperson I spoke with said this one would be all I need to do what I wanted and He had a basement setup too).
Seriously what can I do to make this work for me!?

Login to the setup page of your router and click on the Wireless tab and below change the Wireless Channel to 1 0r 11 and then click on the sub tab Advance Wireless tab and below Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Wireless Issues with Apple TV 2nd generation

I have a linksys wireless router using WPA2 wireless security.  I have 5 laptops, 2 printers, 3 iPhones, and 2 iTouch's connected to the wireless with no problem.  My apple TV (second generation) has wireless issues, it will sit and connect and disconnect then reconnect then disconnect back and forwarth over and over.  It is the only device on my network that has issues.
BTW,  I have an AppleTV 1st Generation that also has no issues.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes it is wireless and it is right next to my Playstation 3 that has netflix along with several internet games and is also wireless but has no problems.
    NEW INFO
Upon further inspection.  It appears that my wireless is connected and I am logged into my itunes account but I only see 3 main categories at the top (Internet, Compouters, Settings) instead of (Movies, Tv Shows, Music, Computers, Internet, and settings).
I have confirmed that my photo Stream from my phone is working and updated.  However, No YouTube access so no internet.  However, I know I am getting to apple because if I enter an incorrect password it tells me and also it stores the username/password.
Not sure what to do.  I thought it was the wireless and still might hardwire the connection if I can but this is strange.  I have setup many ATV2 and have and ATV1 with no issues.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Mighty mouse usb and wireless issues with OSX 10.6.1

Since upgrading to OSX 10.6.1 I have experienced intermittent mighty mouse issues with both the USB and wireless mouse. Essentially the mouse works as a pointer. However, I cannot select anything or use the mouse buttons. I need to re-start the machine in order to get it to work properly again. Anyone else had this issue or have suggestions for fixing it?

Pushing the power button briefly on my iMac turns off the display and stops the hard drive running (both my internal and external drive). Pushing it briefly again brings everything back up in about 2 seconds - it's not a full startup. That's why I call it "sleep" - cause that's what it seems to be doing.

  • Wireless Issues with WRT54G V8

For about a month now I have been having issues with staying connected wirelessly. I have updated the firmware, changed the wireless channels and such. Im not sure what the problem is. It normaly happends during the evening/night hours, but thats when Im online most of the time. My WRT54G V2.2 didnt have this problem, thats the reason why I bought the same model when the old ones WAN port died. I have my compter set to use Static IP addresses, 128Bit web encription, mac address filtering. If any one has an suggestions I would be happy to hear them. I have even considered building a directional antenna for my wireless adapter, which is a WMP54G v4.

On the web interface of the router change the beacon interval to 50 change Rts to 2304 and fragmentation threshold to 2304.

  • Wireless Issues with windows 7 on Macbook Pro 2008

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion OS X and installed Windows 7 using Bootcamp Assistant. Can anyone help me with my wireless connection issues? I cannot seem to connect to the internet within Windows but surely within Mac OS.

You likely did not do the first menu item when you started Bootcamp Assistant. This menu item is to download the Windows Support Software. You then install this Support software from within Windows.

  • C4780 Wireless Issues with Windows 7

    Hello,
I've been having some problems keeping my HP C4780 connected to my HPDV8t laptop (running Windows 7).  I installed the printer correctly for wireless and currently have three computers wirelessly connected to it (my HP laptop, a Macbook Pro, and an iMac).  I've never had any issues printing wirelessly with wither of the Macs.
On the HP, I was printing fine for the first 3-4 days.  I see the printer available in all applications, however, it doesn't appear under the device manager (printer and faxes).  The only thing that appears is the "My PC" Icon, which prompts me to troubleshoot with the yellow exclamation mark.
When I troubleshoot, it tells me that it cannot find the driver to the printer, and goes into an endless troubleshooting loop trying to "fix" the printer (it won't find it even if I have the original HP installation CD in the drive).  When I press cancel, I can no longer print to the printer from any application.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software twice.  Each time, the printer works for a few days, then prompts troubleshooting and then loses the printer. (again, I know the printer is established on the network since the Macs can still find it)
Please advise.  Thanks much in advance.

My guess is that the printer is changing it's iP address and the SW on your computers are having a difficult time keeping track of the change.
It's not unusual (or wrong) for the printer to be given different IP addresses from your wireless-router.  Since the wireless-rotuer "leases" IP addresses to devices on the network, if the lease expires when the printer is off, the wireless-router may assign the printer's old IP address to another device.
For your issue, lets try to fix the IP address assigned to your printer.  There are two methods to try.  The first  print our the C4780 Network Configuration Page and note the printer's IP address.
    1) If your wireless-router supports it, make a DHCP reservation for your printer.  Depending on your wireless-router (btw -- what kind do you have), this may be easy to do and is the recommended option here.
    2) Alternatively, you can make the existing IP address assigned to your printer "static".  On the C4780, the easiest way to do this is to open the printer's internal web page by browsing to the C4780's IP address.  From the web page, select Networking then Wireless (802.11) then IPv4 Configuration.
Select Manual IP and enter the printer's current IP address in the field plus an offset of plus or minus 20.  For example, if the current printer IP address is 192.168.x.100 or lower, then use 192.168.x.120.  If the printer's IP address is 192.168.x.200 or higher, then use 192.168.x.180.
For the subnet mask, enter 255.255.255.0.  Leave the default gateway IP address empty.
Select Manual DNS Server and leave those entries empty as well.
Now reinstall the SW (hopefully for the last time).

  • Issue with WRT120N Firmware in NZ

    Hi guys.
I'm residing in New Zealand and I've had the Wireless-N Home Router WRT120N for a year or so, I recently had trouble accessing the router and I am not able to reset the **bleep** thing to factory default settings so I can re-setup.
I read these forums and have seen a few posts saying the router can't be reset off of the firmware that came with the device and that you need to upgrade firmware to enable the factory reset button to work. I also found a solution that will let me boot into the router to allow me to upgrade the firmware.
Only problem is I can't seem to find an NZ WRT120N Firmware file in the downloads (there doesn't seem to be a page for it). I have however found the US firmware which is 1.0.06.
My question is can I use the US firmware on this specific router or would it mess it up?
Also if I can't, can you see any other way of fixing this?
    Thanks

    1. If you have bought the WRT120N in NZ contact Linksys support and ask them what to do.
    2. Until then I would check the Asia Pacific regional site:

  • Wireless issues with my new Macbook Pro

Just bought a new Macbook Pro, straight out of the box. Works fine with ethernet but wireless it only works in the same room as the router. Elsewhere in the house it won't connect. My other macbook and Macbook air seem to have the same setup and work everywhere around the house. What would make the new Macbook Pro not work on wireless?

    I've a Macbook Pro 15 intel & a Powerbook 17 powerPC
the Powerbook 17 connects to the Airport WiFI always the Macbook Pro 15 did not.
Noticed at work the Macbook Pro 15 always connected to the WiFI (Cisco?) the router is in the ceiling
Moved my Airport WiFI at home UP towards the ceiling (on a higher shelf-better if you could place in ceiling) was on a low shelf
Now Macbook Pro connects always connect through Airport router
My hunch ---> Macbook Pro same antenna issues as the iPhone 4 is experiencing
    the antenna engineers screwed-up
Although the Macbook Pro is smaller than the Powerbook 17 -- it ain't that smaller
try it - put wireless router in attic or ceiling -- up higher

  • Wireless issues with MacBook Pro i5 in Boot Camp Windows 7 x64

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro i5 15''. I'm usually connecting to the 802.11n 5Ghz wireless network of my Time Capsule when running OS X, which works absolutely fine. When running Windows 7 x64 in Boot Camp though, this network can't be found and I have to connect to my secondary 802.11g network of an AirPort Express. Even this network connection usually dies after a few minutes of intensive use though (copying files, playing online games; it's fine with low activity like web surfing). It still appears connected normally, but no data is being transmitted. I have to reset the wireless adapter to get it to work again. The same network works fine for any OS X device.
The Windows drivers for the Broadcom chip in this machine seem really flaky. Anybody else have these problems or maybe a solution?

Yes, sorry, the Boot Camp area would have been a better place to ask. After some more googling I found a helpful thread though, which led me to download this driver package:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?swItem= ob-80585-1&lang=en&cc=us&idx=3&mode=4&
From it I installed the driver called "Broadcom 43225 802.11b/g/n", and presto, I can finally use my 802.11n network under Windows. Hope that's helping other people that may have this problem.

  • Solution found for my wireless issues with ipod touch!

I recently upgraded my IPOD software and wireless would connect but not internet: incorrect IP address, nothing under DNS...I called Apple and they told me to call my router company (Qwewst-actiontec) and ask how to get into my router settings online. I did and the Apple rep told me to disable my wep key and then forget the network on itouch and try again. It worked! Of course I couldn't leave it w/o security so I called Apple back-the nice rep gave me his direct extension originally. He said that the software upgrade probably went from allowing wep to requiring wpa. I went back into my router settings online and set up WPA. Now it all works!

Okay, so now I have read that you have to install a free app through the phone, not through the computer.  I've done so and it looks like everything is good for now.  Keeping my fingers crossed.  My question now, is that if this is a common occurance with the 4.3.3 update, why did Apple imply that I needed to wipe my iPod clean when this was the much easier and less invasive answer?

  • Ongoing wireless issues with Airport Extreme + Express

We have 5 macs in our household. 2 laptops, a desktop, a Macbook Air and a Macbook pro. We have dsl and had a Linksys router. All of us were able to use the internet fine: Airport bar always showed full bars (we did have some slowed response when everyone was on at once but it never posed a major inconvenience). However, the Macbook air had problems from the beginning: dropped connections, choppy video with stalls, buffering taking forever. The Air is the newest of all the computers purchased in April. I went to the Mac store and they suggested purchasing the Airport Extreme AND the Express to ramp up everything both in terms of signal strength and range. Installation was fairly easy and I added the Express to the Extreme network. Now even when standing next to the Extreme base station I get only 2 bars (the little dot at the bottom and one bar above it). I notice no increase in speed. There is worse reception on the Macbook Air belonging to my daughter...she has given up on videos and uses her sisters' laptops to download music to her her iPod. I have cleared caches, updated all computers, reset the modem and router, reset the dhcp lease...nothing works. How is it I had better connection with a NON Mac product?(Prior to buying the new Airports I purchased a Ralink network adapter for my daughter and myself and we had better performance with that ...at $17).As all Mac computers are experiencing the same low performance except for the Macbook Air as noted above it cannot be a hardware issue. Is there something else to be done with theAirports? Please advise.

    1. Try switching to a different channel.
    2. Try System Preferences>Network>Advanced>DNS
Click on the + and insert:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    click OK, then click Apply.
You can do that on each Mac.

  • Wireless issues with my macbook. Help please.

I just got a new WRT300N and my Macbook connected to it fine once it was set up. However now everytime I leave my house and take it with me, or put it to sleep, when it comes back on to my normal wireless network, the Macbook receives the signal, and shows that it has full access, but i cannot get any internet whatsoever. Please help this is driving me crazy.

yes when it connects it gives it an ip depending on which of my other household laptops was on first. usually is 192.168.1.102 when i restart my macbook it connects just fine. but if i disconnect from the network at all it won't reconnect unless i restart. and everytime it does it shows up in easy advisor as a different device.

  • Wireless issue with Satellite U400

    Hello guys,
my laptop is Satellite U400-10n. (OS Vista)
It was running perfectly. But now I cannot connect to a wireless network. When I search for a wireless network, sometimes nothing comes up. I'm using cisco network magic program but it didn't help. I tried everything. I disabled the Bluetooth devise. I turned off all the Bluetooth devices around (cell phones). I have a cordless phone; I turned it off as well.
I tried to update the wireless network device, but didn't help either.
Please guys I need your help.

For WLAN configuration you don't need to use additional applications and you can configure it using Windows settings.
Anyway, check all WLAN settings. Be sure the WLAN card and your router uses the same WLAN standard, try to restart your router.
Have you tried to connect your notebook to some other WLAN?
Can your notebook detect other WLANs?
