Wireless Issues with WRT54G V8

For about a month now I have been having issues with staying connected wirelessly. I have updated the firmware, changed the wireless channels and such. Im not sure what the problem is. It normaly happends during the evening/night hours, but thats when Im online most of the time. My WRT54G V2.2 didnt have this problem, thats the reason why I bought the same model when the old ones WAN port died. I have my compter set to use Static IP addresses, 128Bit web encription, mac address filtering. If any one has an suggestions I would be happy to hear them. I have even considered building a directional antenna for my wireless adapter, which is a WMP54G v4.

On the web interface of the router change the beacon interval to 50 change Rts to 2304 and fragmentation threshold to 2304.

  • Having issues with WRT54GS router acquiring network address after wireless connection.

I've been experiencing problems acquiring a network address after making a wireless connection with the WRT54GS wireless router. I have a Comcast cable modem connected to the internet port of the router and after configuring the SSID and the 64 bit WEP key, I can connect to my router's SSID, but since I can't get an IP address, never connect to the Internet. I've already cloned the laptop's mac address to no avail. Even after configuring a static IP address, subnet mask and default gateway, still cannot connect. I can Ping and Traceroute from the router but not the PC. I can ping localhost and host IP address from the laptop but not the default gateway. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, SJ

Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
Try to access the internet when you connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
Open the setup page of the router and go to Status page. Check the Internet IP address on the status page of the router.
If you are able to access the Internet with the Wired connection to the router then try to create a new wireless network on your router.
Open the setup page of the router and go to Wireless tab. Change the wireless network name SSID and change the channel to 11. Save the settings. Go to Wireless security sub tab and check the wireless security settings. Click on Wireless MAC filter sub tab and make sure that it is disabled. Click on Advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the Beacon Interval to 75, RTS and fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings.
Try to connect to the new wireless network and see if that works.
How many wired and wireless computers do you have in the network?

  • Wireless Issues with Apple TV 2nd generation

I have a linksys wireless router using WPA2 wireless security.  I have 5 laptops, 2 printers, 3 iPhones, and 2 iTouch's connected to the wireless with no problem.  My apple TV (second generation) has wireless issues, it will sit and connect and disconnect then reconnect then disconnect back and forwarth over and over.  It is the only device on my network that has issues.
BTW,  I have an AppleTV 1st Generation that also has no issues.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes it is wireless and it is right next to my Playstation 3 that has netflix along with several internet games and is also wireless but has no problems.
    NEW INFO
Upon further inspection.  It appears that my wireless is connected and I am logged into my itunes account but I only see 3 main categories at the top (Internet, Compouters, Settings) instead of (Movies, Tv Shows, Music, Computers, Internet, and settings).
I have confirmed that my photo Stream from my phone is working and updated.  However, No YouTube access so no internet.  However, I know I am getting to apple because if I enter an incorrect password it tells me and also it stores the username/password.
Not sure what to do.  I thought it was the wireless and still might hardwire the connection if I can but this is strange.  I have setup many ATV2 and have and ATV1 with no issues.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Mighty mouse usb and wireless issues with OSX 10.6.1

Since upgrading to OSX 10.6.1 I have experienced intermittent mighty mouse issues with both the USB and wireless mouse. Essentially the mouse works as a pointer. However, I cannot select anything or use the mouse buttons. I need to re-start the machine in order to get it to work properly again. Anyone else had this issue or have suggestions for fixing it?

Pushing the power button briefly on my iMac turns off the display and stops the hard drive running (both my internal and external drive). Pushing it briefly again brings everything back up in about 2 seconds - it's not a full startup. That's why I call it "sleep" - cause that's what it seems to be doing.

  • Issues with WRT54g V. 8 on Xbox Live.

    Hey guys,
I'm having an issue with lag on xbox live.  My NAT type is set to open and I have my xbox DMZ as well as port forwarded.  There is no issue with joining games but I'm getting a lag anytime I play.  It's a short delay but when I throw a grenade or something of that sort it takes a second for the grenade to actually throw, and while that seems like a minor problem it makes all the difference in the games.  My last speed test showed 3 mbps down and 500 kbps up.  I've done as much research as possible and I'm sure the problem isn't with my ISP (time warner) but the issue lies somewhere in the router.  For whatever reason traffic is just getting hung up in the router and I CANNOT FIGURE IT OUT.
I have a linksys WRT54G V.8 with the latest firmware.  Its running on Channel 11 and I have WPA2 AES security enabled.  My mtu is 1500 and I have Qos enabled for my xbox's mac address and while in games I show a 4 bar connection to the host pretty much at all times.  I'm stumped folks and any suggestions or even explanations would be greatly appreciate.

  • Connectivity Issues with WRT54G V8

I have always had some intermittent issues with this router, and now more than ever. It appears my router has recently gone to crap, and will no longer even connect. The device is properly connected, the latest firmware has been installed, and I have tried disconnecting and resetting the modem numerous times. There is no problem with my land line, as I have always been connected. Please let me know if I can provide further information, and what I could do to resolve this issue.

  • Wireless Internet Issues with WRT54G.

  • Strange connectivity issue with WRT54G

I hope you can help with this.  I have just moved into a new house and am trying to connect the internet through their WRT54G wirelessG router.  It shows up with full reception in the WindowsXP wireless connection manager, but it will not connect.  IPCONFIG has its status as 'Media Disconnected', and all pings to 192.168.1.1 fail.  A loopback test ping to 127.0.0.1 works.  My flatmate's wireless connection to same router works fine, and when he accesses the router's configuration page it states that I HAVE connected and DHCP has assigned me an IP.  I've tried everything; deleting & resetting the connection, resetting the TCP/IP/Winsock protocols, disabling the WEP security on the router, but no luck.  The connection is fine on my flatmate's computer.  My machine is a Dell laptop and and I have taken it to 3 other wireless networks and it connects to them no problem.  I can connect to the router in question fine wired with a CAT5 cable but it's not convenient to have that as a permanent solution (when the router is supposed to be wireless!)
I work in IT and thought I was pretty good with computers but this has me completely stumped!  I looked for new firmware but couldn't find any listed on your site - if there is could you provide a link, or if you've any other ideas what could be causing this please let me know!
    Thanks

Sounds to me like it's related to a configuration setting despite the "Media Disconnected" message. Try disabling any SpeedBooster or other non-essential options on the router. Perpaps the Dell WiFi NIC doesn't like it. I doubt it's a MAC filtering issue but you can try removing that too. If it's a somewhat older laptop you can try removing the small panel on the bottom and reseating the WiFi adapter if it's located there. Newer Dells have them built in around the LCD where you can't access them.

  • Several issues with WRT54G

I just purchased a WRT54G to replace a damaged BEFW11S4. It’s version is v8.00.0, Jan. 16, 2007. The router is located in an upstairs bedroom. Downstairs is the Wireless Adapter WUSB11, Version 1.07. The connectivity between the two is fine. Here are the issues I am having.
    Issue 1.
WEB encryption does not work. I setup the WRT54G for WEB, set the Passphrase and save the settings. I setup the WUSB11 with the same Passphrase and reset everything. The Wireless connection is establish but I do not obtain an IP address from the router. I have tried this several times with the PC and the Router next to me for easy configuration. Does anyone have any insight on what I might be doing wrong? Understand that when I had my BEFW11S4 the WEB worked great.
    Issue 2.
I attempted to do the Install Wizard that came with the WRT54G, why, I don’t know. It got to a point in which I needed to enter IP addresses. Since my PC uses Dynamic IP, I canceled the Wizard. Ever since doing this, my PC is taking a long time to boot. Once booted, the WUSB11 is not being started. I get a 169.x.x.x IP address. I have added the IPAutoconfigurationEnable in the Registry but that did not change anything, except I do not get the 169.x.x.x address anymore.
It seems that something was loaded during the Wizard that was not removed on the Cancel. I’ve tried turning off my Virus program and my Firewall. Nothing changed. So there seems to be a process running that is looking for other IP connections. I recall having this problem before, but I don’t remember what I did to turn it off.
Again, if anyone might have any insight on what might be happening, I would appreciate it.
PC is running WinXP Home with SP2. WRT54Gv8, WUSB11v1.07.Message Edited by Brian_D on 06-01-200707:52 PM

    Thanks...
System Restore fixed everything. I still don't know why I was having issues. But, a restore allowed me to get the WUSB11 back on line and WEB is also working.
My symptom for issue 2 was the PC booted with icons of programs starting appearing in the icon tray, but the virus program had a red x indicating it was disabled. About two minutes later x went away and the WUSB11 icon appeared in the tray. Only then could I open the Network Properties.
All this was too strange, but a simple restore back to a day or two before I purchased the WRT54G brought every thing back to normal. Now the PC runs as it should and my internet connection is available about 30 sec from boot up.
    Thanks again for your comments.

  • Issues with WRT54G routers & adapters

I have a WRT54G router and  WUSB 11 adapters. Initially when the wireless network was setup, everything worked fine. My DSL modem started giving trouble and Bellsouth came and replaced it with a Netopia.
None of my wireless desktop will connect now. They recognise my Network but will not connect. Efforts by the Linksys Tech produce no better results. I changed the Adapters but same results with new ones.
When I try to connect to my network I'm getting this message
"Windows is unable to connect to selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks and try to connect again."  Did that too, dozens of times.
Any asssistance to resolve this issue would be appreciated.

Hi… Well I don’t see any reason why you should get this issue by changing the Modem. If you are getting this error, it means you have changed some of the wireless settings on this router. I would suggest you to go a Firmware Upgrade first, then reset the router and reconfigure it properly. Now try to connect to these new wireless settings. You should not get this issue.

  • Wireless Issues with windows 7 on Macbook Pro 2008

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion OS X and installed Windows 7 using Bootcamp Assistant. Can anyone help me with my wireless connection issues? I cannot seem to connect to the internet within Windows but surely within Mac OS.

You likely did not do the first menu item when you started Bootcamp Assistant. This menu item is to download the Windows Support Software. You then install this Support software from within Windows.

  • C4780 Wireless Issues with Windows 7

    Hello,
I've been having some problems keeping my HP C4780 connected to my HPDV8t laptop (running Windows 7).  I installed the printer correctly for wireless and currently have three computers wirelessly connected to it (my HP laptop, a Macbook Pro, and an iMac).  I've never had any issues printing wirelessly with wither of the Macs.
On the HP, I was printing fine for the first 3-4 days.  I see the printer available in all applications, however, it doesn't appear under the device manager (printer and faxes).  The only thing that appears is the "My PC" Icon, which prompts me to troubleshoot with the yellow exclamation mark.
When I troubleshoot, it tells me that it cannot find the driver to the printer, and goes into an endless troubleshooting loop trying to "fix" the printer (it won't find it even if I have the original HP installation CD in the drive).  When I press cancel, I can no longer print to the printer from any application.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software twice.  Each time, the printer works for a few days, then prompts troubleshooting and then loses the printer. (again, I know the printer is established on the network since the Macs can still find it)
Please advise.  Thanks much in advance.

My guess is that the printer is changing it's iP address and the SW on your computers are having a difficult time keeping track of the change.
It's not unusual (or wrong) for the printer to be given different IP addresses from your wireless-router.  Since the wireless-rotuer "leases" IP addresses to devices on the network, if the lease expires when the printer is off, the wireless-router may assign the printer's old IP address to another device.
For your issue, lets try to fix the IP address assigned to your printer.  There are two methods to try.  The first  print our the C4780 Network Configuration Page and note the printer's IP address.
    1) If your wireless-router supports it, make a DHCP reservation for your printer.  Depending on your wireless-router (btw -- what kind do you have), this may be easy to do and is the recommended option here.
    2) Alternatively, you can make the existing IP address assigned to your printer "static".  On the C4780, the easiest way to do this is to open the printer's internal web page by browsing to the C4780's IP address.  From the web page, select Networking then Wireless (802.11) then IPv4 Configuration.
Select Manual IP and enter the printer's current IP address in the field plus an offset of plus or minus 20.  For example, if the current printer IP address is 192.168.x.100 or lower, then use 192.168.x.120.  If the printer's IP address is 192.168.x.200 or higher, then use 192.168.x.180.
For the subnet mask, enter 255.255.255.0.  Leave the default gateway IP address empty.
Select Manual DNS Server and leave those entries empty as well.
Now reinstall the SW (hopefully for the last time).

  • Wireless issues with my new Macbook Pro

Just bought a new Macbook Pro, straight out of the box. Works fine with ethernet but wireless it only works in the same room as the router. Elsewhere in the house it won't connect. My other macbook and Macbook air seem to have the same setup and work everywhere around the house. What would make the new Macbook Pro not work on wireless?

    I've a Macbook Pro 15 intel & a Powerbook 17 powerPC
the Powerbook 17 connects to the Airport WiFI always the Macbook Pro 15 did not.
Noticed at work the Macbook Pro 15 always connected to the WiFI (Cisco?) the router is in the ceiling
Moved my Airport WiFI at home UP towards the ceiling (on a higher shelf-better if you could place in ceiling) was on a low shelf
Now Macbook Pro connects always connect through Airport router
My hunch ---> Macbook Pro same antenna issues as the iPhone 4 is experiencing
    the antenna engineers screwed-up
Although the Macbook Pro is smaller than the Powerbook 17 -- it ain't that smaller
try it - put wireless router in attic or ceiling -- up higher

  • Wireless repeater with WRT54G

Is it possible to configure the WRT54G as a repeater signal of the WRT120N?

No you cannot. There is no option for that in the WRT54G. What you can is connect the 2 routers with ethernet cable and set the WRT54G as the secondary router and you can still use the same wireless settings. But the WRT54G cannot be set as a stand alone device.
