Wireless keeps disconnecting

I have an old Portege M200 tablet laptop using Windows XP that has the intel(R) pro/wireless 2200BG wireless connection that was communicating fine with my old Linksys wireless-g router. I recently replaced the wireless router to a NetGear WNR1000v2 and now the Portege won't stay connected.
I have dealt with NetGear tech support which solves the problem temporarily - it will connect for a few minutes, then it disconnects, connects, disconnects and finally stays disconnected. When I hardwire the laptop to the router, there is no problem.  NetGEar says it's a problem with the laptop.  Toshiba wants me to pay for support since my laptop is out of warranty.  I have a desktop(XP) and another newer laptop (Windows 7) that have no problems whatsoever connecting to the routerr. It's just the Portege with the problem. I've tried disabling the firewall, changing settings with the router, etc. Nothing is working.
Anyone have any ideas?

Assuming you have the base model Portege M200, , here's your model's download page:
Portege M200
But, make sure that is your full model number!
You say you worked with Netgear tech support, but did they make you, or have you installed the latest firmware update for your router:
Netgear WNR1000v2 Firmware V1.1.2.28
As well, make sure you have the most recent Toshiba BIOS update, as there were several for your unit:
ACPI Flash BIOS version 1.80 for Portege M200
Still not working? I'd uninstall the Toshiba ConfigFree Utility in 'Control Panel - Programs and Features' and then completely uninstall your WiFi driver.
To completely uninstall a driver in Windows 7 see here, I'd stick with Method 1, especially if you've never edited the registry before:
http://www.petri.co.il/removing-old-drivers-from-vista-and-windows7.htm
After completely uninstalling the utility and driver, I would then run some registry cleaning program like CCleaner, then reboot.
Finally, try to reinstall the WiFi driver again:
Intel Wi-Fi 2915ABG and 2200BG Driver for Windows XP
Then reinstall ConfigFree:
Toshiba ConfigFree Utility for Windows XP/SP2
Good luck! Let us know if it works.

  • WRT610N wireless keeps disconnecting + Need Firmware info?

My Linksys WRT610N recently started having the issue of continuosly disconnecting the wireless connection every 30 seconds or so. I did a power recycle but that did not help.
The router's firmware version is 2.00.00 B50 . I tried searching for the latest firmware on the linksys site but I get to is 88MB download package for installation which doesn't even indicate if the Firmware file is part of the package and what the firmware version is in the package. I'm not sure why it is difficult to find this very simple inforation.
If anyone can point me to solution for the constant wireless disconnections and also what the latest firmware is for the WRT610N and whare I can find it, I would really appreciate it.

  • Photosmart 6520 keeps disconnecting from wifi

HI there I have 6520 and when it was new perfect, always ready to print, even from the HPweb print service. Then my router was changed to a dual frequency one 5gh and 2.4gh and ever since the printer drops wifi connection all by itself.
Nothing else behaves like this. I have tried changing the router channel to 11, still no improvement. I have also made sure the the two frequencies act as 2 routers. I tried using USB connection to my main PC as well, and that too will not print unless I restart the printer.
This is driving me mad now, it is as though the eco mode puts the printer to sleep but it will not wake up - can the ecomode be disabled???
Reading through the Forums this is an HP issue and new firmware is required as a matter of urgency!

Yes ECO mode can be disabled and should.  Read your manual.
These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keep wireless devices better connected and makes your router secure and hack proof.
    1. Set a static IP in the printer (click here) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers. Verify your DHCP range and change this
first if needed. More Wireless Printing help is here (Windows solution 4, static IP).
    2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off/Sleep' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going
to the printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click Settings Tab/Auto Off. Or use the Printer
Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS). Also check your Printers Properties.
    3. If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, turn off IPv6 in the printer.
    4. If needed and you assigned a static IP address, try using 8.8.8.8 for the Preferred DNS server and
8.8.4.4 at the Alternate DNS server.
In the router: (Refer to your router manual for information)
    5. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    6. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
    7. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
    8. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security. Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
    9. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    10. SSID broadcast must be enabled.
    11. Save all settings. Power off both, wait 2 mins.  Power on router wait 2 mins.
    12. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.
Windows 7/8/8.1   Is Network Discovery on or off?

  • Soundblaster Wireless keeps disconnecting

    Hi!
I just received my Soundblaster Wireless usb transmitter and receiver. Everything works nicely but the connection shuts down after a minute or so. If I click conncet from the Entertainment console or from the transmitter, the connection comes on again, but disconnects after a minute.
The transmitter and the receiver are about 3 meter away and in a line of sight between each other. I have auto-updated the software and tried auto and all three different channels.
Edit: I installed the latest Windows 7 drivers and nothing. It always plays for :28 and disconnects. Tried with the latest Media Player and Spotify.
    Where is the problem?

    Hi
    >I read on the Toshiba website that it does that to save power, so I changed the network adaptor settings so it doesn't turn off when running on battery
Where did you change these settings? In Vista/Win7 power management?
Please note that such settings can be changed there too.
Additionally its recommended to update the WLan driver and checking if the BIOS is up to date.
WLan driver can be downloaded here:

  • Wireless keeps disconnecting periodically

My wi-fi disconnects about once every 30 minutes, and then reconnects automatically after 10-20 seconds.
I can reconnect faster if I do it manually (click on the icon and so on).
Anyone have any solution to this?
Will Apple Care help me if I call them with this problem?

Just like to add my findings. I have this issue as well. running Xp sp2 on a Penry MBP with the Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter. Driver 4.170.25.12.
From what Ive gathered it makes no difference what version of windows you have. If you got this Card with the latest driver (though vista has a newer one) you'll experience disconnecting.
This disconnecting only happens once the driver causes sound stuttering/system slow downs for myself. once that has happened, it is almost inevitable that the wireless connection will soon disconnect.
Also, there has been reports that disabling the wireless adapter causes Lock-ups. this is true for myself ONLY when the sound stuttering happens. So a fresh reboot solves this for a short while, allowing you to disable the adapter (which is unacceptable).
I mostly use my XP partition for various online games, so once i hear sound stutters i generally just restart and its fixed for the time being.
Also, in regards to system performance and sound stuttering. This problem will not happen at all, if the wireless card has been disabled before the symptoms above occur.
What to do now? Just wait for new Drivers. It should be blatantly obvious that these Broadcom adapter have way out dated drivers, 9-20-07, Way to old for my tastes.

  • Wireless Keeps Disconnecting

    Hi,
I have had my MBP 15" 2.8 since June and Wireless has worked 100% no issues until I updated with the AirPort Client Update 2009-002
Now My wireless drops at random times, and the only way to restore is to turn airport off and back on again..
Its not my router as my Windows PC and iPhone are happily surfing.
Any ideas if I can roll back or remove that update?
This is my first Mac so not sure about the updates etc.
    Jason

Dropped signals can be a result of many things however if your other devices are working OK then I would start with changing the DNS settings. Here is what you do:
    1. System preferences
    2. Network
    3. Click Advanced
    4. Click DNS tab
    5. Click + sign
    6. Add 208.67.222.222
    7. Click + sign
    8. Add 208.67.220.220
    9. Click OK.
    10. Exit System Preferences
    11. Try out your MacBook Pro and report what happened.

  • FIOS and Wireless Connection Disconnecting

I now have Verizon FIOS and only on my MacBook Pro the wireless keeps disconnecting after 5 minutes of inactivity. I tried testing connectivity on a Windows laptop and on an iPad and there are no issues.  I called VZ and they said this is an Apple Macbook issue as they ran diagnostics and all the tests and configurations were all set correctly.  Does anyone else have this issue and is there any solution?
    Thanks.

so I just got the blazing fast Fios last week and love everything about it except about 50% of the time I need to restart my laptop (which is hooked up wireless) in order to connect.  When I initially connect it shows that it is connected but cannot receive anything in a browser.  The remedy is a restart.  but I only need to do this about 50% of the time.
Interestly,  If I am having problems and cannot connect I can still receive a skype ping (but cannot browse to any pages using FF or IE)
I called tech support and they were very nice but did not solve.
    Anyone else with this?
    rg
Sounds like an issue on your laptop.  Can you ping anything outbound?  It sound like the DNS on your laptop is not connecting properly, or the network arp cache is hosed.  If you're using XP or Vista you should be able to "repair" the network connection without having to restart the laptop -- this is essentially what a restart will do for you relative to network issues without having to restart.  Right click on the network icon in the right toolbar area and select Diagnose and Repair.

  • Wireless connection keeps disconnecting - Satellite C650 16U

    Hi
My wireless connection keeps disconnecting frequently and I have to manually reconnect it. I don't think it is a router issue as this doesn't happen with other laptop that is used in my house. Any ideas why this is?
    Thanks

    Hi mate
I recommend checking the power saving settings in Win 7 power management.
There you can change (disable) the power saving for WLan card.
    This helped in my case.
    Please also check this thread:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=59177
As I said; power management setting is the key you should also update the WLan driver!

  • Wireless keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting

My Wireless Keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting and typing by it self!! any ideas?

    Hi,
Yes believe it or not my problem was caused by the keyboard being too close to the iMac display, the bluetooth was infering with the other radio signals coming from the antenna, it needs to be at least 1ft away from the display (30cm) to prevent this (this won't help those of you with small computer tables/desks)
    Hope this works for you....

  • Wireless router keeps disconnecting...

    Hello there,
I own a Linksys Wireless Router (BERW11S4). I recently updated it's firmware to the latest version (1.52.02) which supports WPA-PSK (TKIP).
I have set the group renewal interval of 7200 seconds, which is the max the software will accept.
My problem is after a certain period, it keeps disconnecting, which i believe is because of the group renewal interval, which can't be turned off. How do I eliminate this problem as it is really annoying to keep re-connecting half-way everytime?
    Thanks in advance.

still disconnecting every hour and then...
    please help. im so frustrated.
any other settings i should try?
    or solution?

  • Wireless mouse keeps disconnecting

My Apple wireless mouse keeps disconnecting about every third time when I put the computer to sleep and wake it up later.  I have to reboot to re-establish the bluetooth connection.  What can I do to fix this?

There has been a lot of discussion about this.  This thread has many suggestions.  https://discussions.apple.com/message/13074761?messageID=13074761#13074761
I have had this problem on an off (no pun intended) for a very long time.  Had my mouse replaced once at the Apple Store.  Contacted Apple Care about it also when it first occured.   Sometimes changing the batteries helps.  If I am using rechargeables, Energizers seem to fit best.  In one of the threads, someone showed a photo of how the battery contacts are actually different on different brands and suggested that is one reason this occurs.  I find that resetting the SMC is what eventually I have to do and that is what Apple Care suggested also.  I haven't found a permanent fix yet and I don't really expect to, but doing this does give me much longer periods of time without a recurrence.

It is annoying.  I keep my old wired mouse close by so I can get to it quickly.

  • My usb wireless adapter keeps disconnecting

So, I just bought this TP-Link TL-WMN721N 150mbps wireless adapter, and it has this issue. It keeps disconnecting, all the time, i've downloaded the latest drivers and i'm pretty sure it's not a malware problem, also tried connecting to different usb ports.
    Any guesses?

    Hi,
You can also temporarily turn off your anti-virus software, since some anti-virus might not recognize the new component installed.
I noticed that you've had the latest driver, did you get the driver by manually viewing the device manufacture website to look for the latest version?
This issue can also be caused by incompatibility, Please make sure the usb wireless adapter is compatible with your Windows version.
Please also reinstall the usb controllers as a test
First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:
    1)    In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
    2)    Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and your windws will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.
