Wireless keyboard doesn't pair and blinks instead

I have a wireless keyboard (about a year old) which suddenly stopped working today. When I try to pair it as a device, it shows up in the list of available keyboards, but when I enter the key, nothing happens. Instead, the keyboard blinks twice in short periods of time after switching it on. I didn't find anything about such a problem, so any pointers? And yes, I tried exchanging the batteries with some fresh ones. Buying a new one or contacting the Apple support, what's the better option here?
Cheers, Mathias

As far as I can see mostly Keyboards between Oct and Dec 2004 are involved. I would appreciate if Apple could have a careful look on this issue and take resp. actions as e.g. an extented repair or replacement program!

  • Brand New Bluetooth Keyboard doesn't pair at startup on MAC Lion Server

    Hi,
Just got a new Mac Lion Server Mac Mini and went to set up last night.
Apple logo and chime comes up.  Then the screen to turn on Bluetooth Keyboard and Magic Mouse comes up.  I turned on the power on the mouse and keyboard.  The keyboard doesn't pair and the mouse does.  As soon as the computer realizes the mouse is connected, it moves on to the setup screens (username, server setup etc.) and doesn't care that the keyboard is not set up yet.  Of course, since I cannot type usernames etc. for the server, I get stuck.
I rebooted (hard power shutdown) several times in the hope that one time (accidently) the keyboard would be picked up but no such luck.
My PS3 recognized the Apple Keyboard so it's not the keyboard.
I didn't have a USB keyboard around so I have to wait till tonight to try to set up.  I have a couple of questions.
    1.  Anything with Mac Mini defective?  Is it something for me to worry about?
    2.  After I use the USB Keyboard, will my system recognized the Apple keyboard and keep it memorized.  I don't have a problem doing a one time setup in this fashion, but if it continues then I'd like to nip it in the bud.
    3.  Should I take it to the Apple store?
    Thanks for all you help.

This is an all too common issue.  It happened for me as well.  I don't think there's anything defective on your mini.  I used a wireless keyboard (USB) to complete the setup.  Once I was in Lion, I paired my Apple BT keyboard and haven't had a problem since.

  • IPad and wireless keyboard do not pair any more

I always had (minor) problems, wehn vonnecting iPad and keyboard. But now iPad and wireless keyboard do not pair at all. Tried 15-20 times, fresh batteries, switched on an off, tried manually - nothing. I noticed that the green LED of the keyboard shines just for about 3 seconds when I switch on - but this has always been like that before. Latest OS of course. Who can help, please?

  • My wireless keyboard won't pair with my computer

help, my wireless keyboard won't pair with my computer.  the green light blinks and it won't sync during the pairing process.

    Did it pair earlier??
I just lost my Wireless kbd Bluetooth connection twice recently. And found the following solution:
    1. Delete the kbd from Bluetooth system prefs.
    2. Shut down the kbd
    3. In system prefs, keyboard choose "Configure Bluetooth keyboard..." at the bottom
    4. Press the power button on the kbd until the green LED blinks, kbd gets detected
    5. Switch OFF the kbd
    6. Click "Continue"
    7. Power on the kbd as described in 4.
    8. Kbd gets paired, enter the digit code and Enter
    9. Go to system prefs, Bluetooth and add the kbd as a favorite
That did it for me. Hope it works for you, too.

  • When I try to connect my bluetooth keyboard to my ipad, the dialog box pops up and says: "Make sure 'Apple Wireless Keyboard' is turned on and in range." But the keyboard is turned on and is right in front of the ipad. Any thoughts?

When I try to cnnect my bluetooth keyboard to my ipad, the dialogue box pops up and says: "Make sure 'Apple Wireless Keyboard' is turned on and in range." The thing is, the keyboard is on and is sitting in front of the ipad. I have used it before, but not for many months. I changed the batteries today just in case. The green light on the keyboard comes on and continues blinking. What am I missing?

Keyboards Can only be paired with one device at the time so if it's paired with another device IN range it Will not pair with the ipad

  • Wireless keyboard does not pair

    Hi,
I paired successfully a keyboard to an iMac awhile ago and then I couldn't get it work for a reason I don't know and let it go.
Now Ineed this wireless keyboard for another computer and I would like to try once again to make it work.
    Here's my problem :
Ther keyboard is recognized by the bluetooth assistant (with my name by the way). Then I get the code to enter and then the pairing fails. And I know I have to press the enter key ! My batteries are ok (green light). I have tried on a friend(s computer, same thing and the keyboard is also recognized with my name on his machine. Is there a way to globally reset this keyboard and start from the beginning ?
Any idea would be welcome !

    Hello p:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Try trashing a preference file and restarting (com.apple.bluetooth.plist).
I would also reset the PRAM:

  • New apple wireless keyboard doesn't work after upgrade to leopard on mini

I am posting this because I have not seen anybody else post this issue, but it is fixed at this point.
I installed the new apple ultra slim wireless keyboard on my mac mini about a month ago...was working great...until I upgraded to Leopard. The keyboard would connect, and the esc, function, and arrow keys would work great. However, none of the letter, number, or enter keys would work. This was all observed using the 'show keyboard viewer', which is accessible by allowing 'show input menu in menu bar' from the 'international' system preference pane.
I rebooted many times and even updated to the latest leopard patch set.
During this whole time, the wireless mighty mouse has worked without issue.
I removed the device and added several times with no change. I even moved the wireless keyboard to my G5 and it worked great over there.
After a few days of trying various things to no avail, I was finally able to get the keys to work, but I am not sure why. I had a wired keyboard connected and kept going back and forth between the wireless and wired keyboard and all of a sudden it started working. Very strange.

this problem is fixed, but if anybody has an idea what happened, I would like to know.

  • I have a wireless keyboard for my ipad and it says to charge it connect it to my pc.  can i charge it by connecting it to my ipad?

I have a wireless keyboard for my ipad and it says to charge it connect it to my pc.  can i charge it by connecting it to my ipad?

No. The iPad's port won't put out enough power. You could probably plug your keyboard into your iPad charger and charge it that way, but it won't charge off the iPad.

    Hi JPasHPCust,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I have read your post on having trouble utilizing your wireless keyboard to the desktop, and I would be happy to be of assistance!
To start off, I will need to know what the Product and Model Number is for your desktop. I will also need to know if your wired keyboard is capable of functioing in a different USB port or not.
Please follow this document on Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Troubleshooting. If you still cannot use the wireless keyboard, try booting your computer in safe mode. To do this, follow these steps to boot in Windows 8 Safe Mode.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • Wireless keyboard lost connection and blinks instead?

I have had my wireless keyboard and mouse over a year and had no problems. I turned the system off last night like usual, and this morning when I turned it all back on I can't proceed past the login as the keyboard is not paring up and I just have a green blinking light next to the keyboard on/off switch.
The batteries are okay, but to be sure I have recharged them, and the Bluetooth is working okay as the mouse is paired and working fine.
Any help, advice or solutions out there?

  • My wireless keyboard has come unpaired and I can't log in to my iMac to pair it...help!!

Help...my wireless keyboard has some how come unpaired with my iMac...and since the keyboard does not work I can not log in to repair it.  Anyone know how to fix this??

You can access your Mac from your iPhone or iPad through a remote desktop client like Splashtop or LogMeIn if you already have something like this installed. Are you sure that your keyboard is 'discoverable'? (Hold button until light comes on and then goes off. Release button, then depress agin. The light will come on, hold for for about 3 seconds then let go. The light on the keyboard should be blinking in a 3 flash succession.) If it doesn't connect to the Mac after this, you'll need to get/borrow/buy a USB Keyboard (It's always good to have one of these handy anyway when you have a wireless accessory setup as your main way of connecting with your Mac).
Once you do get in to your system, be sure and go to System Preferences>Bluetooth and make sure that the 'Discoverable' box is checked. Also, go on to the Advanced pane and make sure that the box that says "Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup if no trackpad or mouse is detected" is Checked.
    Results?
