Wireless Keyboard Explanation.

Can anyone please tell me where I can find an explanation of all the keys on my wireles keyboard. Some are obvious but not all.

Keyboard preference pane -> Keyboard Shortcuts is probably the best place.
Different models of keyboards have different key assignments. I have an old white wireless extended keyboard that has Mission Control assigned to the F10 key, but on the newer Apple wired extended keyboard Mission Control is assigned to the F3 key.

where is the hyperlink for your information ?
This PDF link has a good explanation of BT profiles:
    https://techtrain.samsungwireless.com/tekweb/Misc/Main/Accessories/Bluetooth_Pro files.pdf
The HID profile is the one needed for keyboard connection, and isn't included in iPhone 3.0 OS
where do you know, that this is not in the new os 3.0 ?
I know, because I have been using all the 3.0 betas. If you read the latest Apple site page listing the new 3.0 features, you won't see it there. Only stereo audio (A2DP) with audio/video remote control (AVRCP) were added.

  • How to connect wireless keyboard to new machine for setup?

I have a new Mac Mini Lion Server and only have wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. When I startup the Mac Mini and turn on the mouse and keyboard, mouse is connected but keyboard is not. I do not have a USB keyboard. How can I get the Mac Mini to recognize the wireless keyboard?

Having the same problem right now. Got my Mac Mini yesterday. tried to set it up but the keyboard from my windows computer didn't map. Went and bought a wireless keyboard and magic pad today, couldn't get it to work. will try your advise tomorrow. if that doesn't work, will return the whole package and get another windows PC. i do like my iPhone though. Maybe Apple should stick with making phones. Very disapointed for my wasted time and lack of explanation.

You can find the Apple Bluetooth card on eBay for as little ten dollars (says its for the 2008 model Mac Pro, not sure about the 2007).

Here is a link to a full explanation of the card and how to install it. Part numbers may differ a bit as that is an old article and newer models have come out.

Just make sure that the part will work in your model Mac Pro. To that end, you may be better off avoiding eBay and going to a parts reseller. There are even third party cards that use the internal Apple bluetooth slot.

In theory, using a USB or PCI card will work at login so long as it is recognized by Apples drivers. You say you need to launch an application to use your current USB Bluetooth dongle? If it is not controlled by the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar then it must be using a third party driver of some sort. Unfortunately, I don't know off hand which USB and PCI cards are supported.

  • WIreless keyboard shift key problem

I have an Apple wireless keyboard which was working fine for the past 10 months, until this morning. Now, when I press the shift key, it types an "I" and whatever other key I hit. Also, there are occasional random capital letters when I type without pressing the shift key. I've tried things like resetting the PRAM, going into keyboard preferences and resetting to the defaults, and unpairing/repairing the keyboard to my iMac. It is definitely the keyboard, as I plugged in the USB keyboard from my daughter's iMac, and that works fine. Also, I've tried to get support, but can't get past Apple telling me my serial number is invalid (Thanks so much to srodney for a VERY clear explanation of how to find that miniscule serial number!)
Thanks for any help you can give!

Keyboard: lower case letter or letters stop working.
Friends, I have solved this problem and used it several times successfully. In my case, it was the lower case “a”, the only letter that would not register and because my password contains an “a” I could not even restart and log in without a work-around. Tried numerous keyboards, cables, and all the rest. A safe boot fixed the problem so I knew it was a corruption glitch. Short version: I just did this two hours ago - July 18, 2009 - only the second or so time in a year, although it took me a lot of preference experimentation the first time to sniff it out.
In my case, went to my “user/library/preferences” folder and dragged onto the desktop the preference “loginwindow.plist” (not the one that starts "com.apple", at least in my case I didn’t need to get rid of that one). Restart and voila! Problem solved. Trash the old "loginwindow.plist" as a new one is created when you restart and you lose no data. To their credit, Apple was very helpful back when it happened the first time, and it was a real conundrum to them as well. I got lucky that it was not too obscure a problem so I didn't have to go through all the preferences and remove them one by one for hours. I found the guilty party fast. Now ya know! Maybe it'll work for you. And a general thanks to all the good people who write these notes and have saved my sanity many, many times. Finally a chance to pay it forward.

  • New wireless Keyboard with terrible battery life

Is this how they all work?
I recently bought a wireless keyboard for my mac mini that's in a closet functioning as a media server. It seems that the battery life is terrible. I used the keyboard for about one hour one day and didn't touch the device for two weeks. After this two week interlude the batteries were dead. This is the 2nd time I have noticed this.
So should I remove the batteries when not using the keyboard. I can't seem to tell if the keyboard is on or off by pushing the button since the keyboard light doesn't stay on when in use.
I have other wireless keyboards that seem to have battery life that go and go and go

One Possible EXPLANATION For Apple Wireless Keyboards Or Mice GOING THROUGH BATTERIES In A Matter Of Weeks is as follows:
When you shut down or sleep your Mac, if there is a second Mac running at some distance away (up to 100 meters distance), and this distant Mac has bluetooth switched on, and was, for some reason, previously been paired with your wireless keyboard or mouse, then I believe the keyboard or mousewill try to link to the distant Mac after you have shut down the local Mac, using all its available transmission power to overcome the distance, and thereby wearing down the batteries.
This happened to me. I have two Macs in the house, and paired my new wireless keyboard with both computers, just so that I could use this keyboard with either Mac.
But when I shut down the Mac I was using, without me realizing, my wireless keyboard that I had in front of me would then link up to my other distant Mac (which was usually always running), located at the other side of my house, and in doing so, my wireless keyboard would wear out its batteries in weeks from the power drain due to long distance transmission and reception.
Whether this battery draining from long distance transmission and reception can also occur when the wireless keyboard or mouse has not been paired with the distant Mac, I am not sure. It's conceivable that in the bluetooth polling mode, where the distant computer is trying to link up to the wireless keyboard or mouse, there could also be substantial power draining from long distance transmission and reception (especially if bluetooth is set to discoverable).
Someone may want to test this: seeing if bluetooth polling over distance can drain power. Who knows, it may be that your neighbor has a Mac, and so when you switch off your computer, your wireless keyboard or mouse spends all night trying to link to your neighbor's Mac.

  • How do you use the same wireless keyboard with multiple devices?

My apologies in advance if this question has been answered previously.  There was nothing in the owner's manual (for the keyboard) that answered this.  I did do a rough search that did not yield an answer to this:
I have one wireless keyboard I am using with my Macbook Pro.  I understand this keyboard can also be used as an input device for my Apple TV and my iPhone - both of which I currently own.
And although I am able to use the keyboard with those devices, I am forced to "forget this device" after having used it on either the Apple TV or my iPhone so that I can use it on my MacBook Pro.  Is there any combination of keys that one can press on the keyboard that would cycle through my three devices?  As it is right now, if I don't "forget the device" on my secondary units, it somehow defaults to a peripheral OTHER than my MacBook Pro and I'd like for it to always default to my computer.
    Thank you for any information/advice.

  • Would like to add two devices since obtaining HDMI IV: a wireless keyboard

Secondly, I would like to have headphones to have capability to listen tv without disburbing bed partner. I see apple wireless keyboard requires blue tooth usb dongle which costs as much as keyboard, looking at a Kensington wireless keyboard which uses that other technology. Excuse my ignorance.
Do I need to buy both blue tooth and beamed to headphone as my mac doessn't have internal bluetooth. I use Belkin Wireless currently b not n. I found a site with great reviews for 802.11n Mac USB Wireless Adapter, which is n . But pricey. That may be ok as i don't want to go backwards. my systems is used by four rooms wired and wireless and I also want to buy a wireless adapter for an old G3 so it will work in my grandkids house across from kitchen to back two bedrooms.
Can anyone advise which keyboard: i don;t like feel of new Mac flat ones, it slows down typing, I also like white. PS I have a great $1245 Kensington Trackball. So I don't necessarily need combo unit except for the grandkids g3. Iknow this is a big order. But i spent all day learning terms and getting not much done online. Thanks in advance. New HDMI and switcher trying to network an old G3

I am asking about my G5 desktop 1.8.
You asked the right question but in the wrong forum. This is the GEE-FOUR area. That's is why no one is answering other than me, who realized you would benefit from moving your post and offered help to relocate it. I provided the link to the G5 forums previously. I'm sure that, if you post there, you will get help from people who use and manage G5 computers on a regular basis.
From your profile, I see that most of your other posts are in the proper G5 forum, I remain confused about why you insist on getting this question answered in the GEE-FOUR forums, and why polite help offered made you angry.
These are user-to-user forums, not staffed by Apple employees, and everyone volunteers their time without hope of remuneration. That's why the forums are organized by model; people with common equipment types can share ideas and help with common problems. Your computer does not match the equipment and experience base of the forum in whcih you posted.
Misplaced posts are common here due to some confusing labeling of forum areas. However, someone getting mad when politely told they are better served by reposting in the area matching their computer model is NOT common.

  • Plus and minus keys on wireless keyboard?

hi there everyone. i've got a new aluminum wireless keyboard and i love it to bits. gorgeous bit of design and elegance. on the previous apple keyboard however there was a couple of handy keys next to the numeric pad for 'plus' and 'minus'. Does anyone know how i can find these on the wireless keyboard? these were particularly handy when hit with the 'command' key to increase or decrease the size of text in safari.

excellent, thank you, i'd obviously not looked at my keyboard closely enough! cheers...

  • How to set up wireless keyboards to work on 2 computers within 3 feet of one another

We work close together -- within 3 feet and need to use wireless keyboards if possible. One computer will recognize
the Apple wireless keyboard but my laptop will not recognize either of the 2 Apple wireless keyboards we own. I have changed
batteries, made sure Bluetooth is on and there is no other interference. Appreciate any help.

If the KB is paired with something, it needs to be deleted from that system before it can pair with something else. BT devices may only pair with one thing at a time.

How do i run an external monitor with my macbook and change settings so that when i close the lid the signal to the monitor is not lost and i can continue using the mac with a mouse and a wireless keyboard?

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.

  • Not recognizing wireless keyboard/trackpad/mouse

Just installed windows 7 on new 2012 imac.  loaded the support software. still not recognizing the mac's wireless keyboard, trackpad, or mouse.  what should I try??

    hi
the N70 mouse has a USB dongle to connect to
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
You may be able to connect the mouse but the Keyboard should be a pair SK8861
The SK8861 mouse and keyboard should be a pair because the USB dongle for both is in the SK8861 mouse.
Im not sure If you can pair the SK8861 keyboard with the n70 USB dongle.
But here's how to pair the keyboard. you can try this out with the N70 usb dongle.
Make sure that the keyboard is very close to the dongle when pairing
     1. Unplug the dongle from the computer
     2. Remove the battery
     3. Hold the F2 F3 and F4 keys on the keyboard all throughout the process
     4. Use your left had put the battery in but do not put the keyboard battery cover yet.
     5.  Left hand still, plug in the USB dongle then right away put the keyboard battery cover
Light will blink but once it stopped you can now let go of the F2 F3 and F4 keys and try the keyboard out.
If this does not work You might need to conatct where you bought it and ask about the keyboard and mouse, that it should come in pair" sk8861 mouse and keyboard.
