Wireless Keyboard fails to control iTunes

All of the special feature keys along the Function row work except for "Previous track, Pause and Next track" The "Start/Pause" key will only start or stop the highlighted song in iTunes. How can I fix this or is this a result of an "upgrade"?

Hello m:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
I just tested mine and they work the way you describe (correctly). Candidly, I had never tried them before. I use a wireless BT Apple KB - you did not indicate your KB type.
Edit: Oops, the title of your post answers my own question.
Try trashing a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restarting.

  • Wireless keyboard fail.....

Hi - I am new to this board so patience please! I have a 2011 iMac, and am having intermittent keyboard issues. I have a wireless keyboard that has partially failed - I can't even log in using it. It seems to be connecting to the mac as I can see output in the password field for some keys (numbers, function keys and direction keys, 'esc' all seem to work) but not others - 'P' works for instance, but not " - its all very bizarre. Has anyone seen anything like this before, and do you have any idea how to fix it? I have the wired keyboard on there at the moment but I know that will **** up soon because there is an issue with the extended keyboard and Yosemite, apparently, and that has failed on me before too!! Any help appreciated....

Many thanks - have tried the resets. The first one didn't seem to have any impact. On the PRAM reset there was no difference in the behaviour of the wireless keyboard (maybe the keystrokes weren't registered as the letters aren't working). With the wired keyboard the mac booted to OS X utilities and then stopped, so I manually restarted. A normal start up occurred but then when I tried to put in my password it looked like the keyboard was on remote control - just went speeding off from left to right and whatever has been out in there can't be deleted as the keyboard is not responding. (Caps Lock not lighting up). Is it really possible that both keyboards are shot, or is it more likely a software problem? I am going to borrow a 'normal' usb keyboard from a friend today to see if that works, but in the meantime do you have any further ideas?

  • How do I set shortcuts on my new onn wireless keyboard for volume control?

    Replacement Keyboard
Volume control issue with a non- Apple Keyboard
    [Sunday - July 29, 2012 - 2:18pm]
Question:     I just purchased a new keyboard in place of the orginal for my iMac which gave out this morning. The brand name of the keyboard is
ONN & it's a wireless board. I've encountered an issue that is a deal breaker - if there is no possible way to correct it. The volume control buttons used to
increase/decrease/mute the volume do not work on this product. I bough this keyboard because it was one of the two that was Mac compatable at my
local store. I realize you get what you pay for but hope there is a soulution!
**Sidenote: I was curious, anyone had any other issues with these keyboards?
    Some additional information:
When I woke up this morning, sat down in my computer chair, turned on my iMac and pulled up Textedit. I placed my hands on my faithful keyboard and within moments I realized that it had met it's end. I was quite upset that my original, sleek white iMac keyboard was now a thng of the past but realized that I'd need a replacement very soon in order to get my paperwork done.
Unfortunately, I did not have time to ride forty-five minutes to my local Apple store and I didn't neccesarily want to hand over the cash for one of the pricey keyboards at the time because I am going on a vacation within the next few weeks and each dime counts. So, I decided to visit a store that obviously would have the cheapeast deals in the meantime. So, I headed to to Wal-Mart to make a quick purchase
As I walked the aisles it soon became evident that today's market still is not on point when it comes to having Apple compatable hardware, softwore or anything for that matter. As I quickly skimmed the keyboards I ran across several that caught my eye, but of course, they were all made specifically for Windows. So, finally I approcahed two keyboards that were Mac compatible. The first was way too large and came with a mouse, which I did not need. The second caught my eye and I knew that this would be my purchase.:::
The verdict: an onn wireless keyboard that was both affordable and also gave off a sleek and modern apperance. (Retailed: $24.00)
So, I got home and began using the board. For the first how I was actuallly very satisfied. I like the buttons and the feel of the board. Then, I encountered a problem that made my interested for the new keyboard vanish.
The Issue:  On the boards layout, the (F2) key has a symbol that notates the decrease volume control button, (F3) of course would be the increase volume button & lastly the (F4) button represents the [mute] button.
However, these buttons don't work. Sadly, I am not aware of how I could possibly change this issue or if it would even be possible. I sincerely hope that it's possible - because I like the convience of the volume control keys - they were actually my favorite part of the keyboard. Manually changing the volume by going through system preferences does not sound fun to me once so ever. I guess you could call me spoiled but I don't think I can even keep this board if it doesn't have the ability to change volume/mute via the keyboard.
This is a shame because the keyboard it'self isn't bad at all and I actually somewhat like it. So, if you have any information or an answer to this question - I'd truly appreciate hearing your responses! Also, do keep in mind I am a rookie when it comes to computers as a whole so try to simplicate things for me if that is nessecary.
Closing negative note on this keyboard: As I typed this I started encountering a very annoying problem. As I am typing in a line, forming a sentence the keyboard would randomly start typing in pargraphs above and below as well. I'm not sure if this is something that I caused by pressing too hard with my hands or if this is a deffect. Either way, I will saving my receipt and the boxing for this product until I hear further news.
I hope to hear from you soon and I appreciate your help very much.
    Have a great day,
    David Travis Center

  • E and C keys on wireless keyboard activate Mission Control

I just set up a wireless keyboard with my Macbook Air. For some reason, the E and C keys activate Mission Control at random times. I went to System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts and restored everything to default but it still doesn't fix the problem. I also can't find any direct associations between these keys and Mission Control in the Mission Control setting. Help!

In case anyone is curious, I solved this issue by upgrading to OS X 10.6.4. The brightness and volume function keys now control these functions properly.

  • Display dimming buttons don't function on wireless keyboard.

Display dimming buttons do not function on the wireless keyboard, but do function on the MacBook Pro's keyboard. That is, I cannot control brightness of the MacBook Pro's display from the wireless keyboard, but can do so with the MacBook Pro's built in keyboard. Neither of the keyboards seem to have any control over the external monitor. The wireless keyboard is a brand new Apple aluminum keyboard. How can I gain control of the wireless keyboard's brightness control buttons?

    Hello roytel:

The volume up and down controls on my wireless keyboard show a no entry sign and do not respond when used...please help?

If you want to get a little more "exotic" you can try remapping the function keys.  I did a little google searching and the hits that looked promising are,
Mapping volume and eject keys to 3rd-party keyboard Other Hardware
    Spark
Spark is a powerful, and easy Shortcuts manager. With Spark you can create Hot Keys to launch applications and documents, execute AppleScript, control iTunes, and more...
You can also export and import your Hot Keys library, or save it in HTML format to print it.
Spark is free, so use it without moderation!

I am using Photoshop CS5 on a new iMac with a wireless keyboard.  I used to be able to hit F11 to perform a custom sharpening action but now the F11 key is the volume control key and I have tried everything to disable or switch the volume key. I have also tried assigning other function keys to initiate the action. Is there a simple solution to this? What am I missing?

Try unmounting the volume on your iMac using Disk Utility. Then mount it again. You may need to reboot the laptop or relaunch its Finder process (using the Force Quit window) after remounting the drive on your iMac. Remember that no process may be accessing any files on the drive you plan to unmount, or the unmount will fail. Unmounting and remounting an external drive on my iMac made it become visible on my MacBook Pro after it had disappeared.

  • Right-click on Magic Mouse and Volume Controls on Wireless keyboard suddenly stopped working

I am running Mavericks 10.9.2 on an Late 2012 iMac.
One morning the right click on my Magic Mouse and the volume controls on the wireless keyboard stopped working.
These mouse and keyboard themselves seem fine; they work okay ehn used on a MacBook.
Everything else about the mouse and keyboard is fine.
This seems to be a problem what has been around for a whole, with a wide variety of solutions.
    I have read
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16799039#16799039
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23474052#23474052
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19660884#19660884
    and have tried
Clicking on and off the 'right click' checkbox in the Mouse System Preferences - No effect
    Deleting /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist - No effect
Restarting in Safe Mode - When starting in safe mode, the computer crashes out and restarted
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM - Is it CTRL+CMD+P+R or CMD+OPT+P+R ?  Neither work for me (I do try it using a wired keyboard, but never get the double chime)
Upgraded to 10.9.2 - no effect
Moved the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHIDMouse.kext and AppleHIDKeyboard.kext and and back in (and re-authenticate) - No joy
Moved the /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHIDMouse.kext and AppleHIDKeyboard.kext from a working MacBook on same OS - Made the keyboard misbehave even more
Has anyone got any other cures for this?
    Thanks in advance.

Here is what worked for me.  My scrolling on the mighty mouse and a few buttons on my wireless keyboard weren't working properly.  I reset the SMC, a link explaining the process is below.  Hope it helps you too!

I do something like that, and can confirm 20 feet won't be a problem. More than 30 or so might be.

  • Wireless Keyboard Volume control not working

    Hi all
recently got a new Envy Phonext 800 050, came with a wireless keyboard and mouse, both of which work fine apart from the volume controls on the keyboard and I cant seem to find software/drivers for them that run under windows 8 ? any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Hi capnchuck,
Thanks for the quick reply. I would like you to check out Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Troubleshooting it has some troubleshooting steps we can try first. You may be required to download the drivers for your specific keyboard can give me the name of your keyboard  example: HP Wireless Elite Desktop Keyboard, HP Wireless Entertainment Keyboard etc.. so that I can narrow down the keyboards that are coming up with that product number. Hope to hear from you soon.

  • Wireless keyboard control keys for iPad use?

I just bought a new wireless keyboard and I love it! However, I wish there was some kind of manual with it that explained what keys and keystroke combinations were available for use within most iPad apps. For instance, when is the weird "command" key ever used? Or the Control, Option or fn keys?
I can use it to type things, like when I'm using iMessage- but I can't see any way to actually hit the SEND button in iMessage- which, if there were a Windows application and keyboard I would be able to do with some combination of keystrokes.
Do such combinations exist in iOS devices to allow for hitting buttons and controls in applications, or do I have to revert back to hitting my screen with my stylus or finger to hit the SEND button?

Those keys do work.. example: option + 0 is the degree symbol.
As far as I know you have to tap the send button in iMessage. Return does not work, at least not on the Apple bluetooth keyboard.

  • Wireless keyboard volume control

Finally paired my wireless keyboard with the older Mac and cannot get the volume controls on the keyboard to work at all. Keeps taking me to widgets or closing current window when I hit the F11 or F12 buttons. I tried going to system preferences, disconnecting, powering down and repowering keyboard per a post I found (which worked for the person who asked the question initally) but it will not work for me. Can someone help me to get my volume controls to function properly?
    Thank you.

    Hello b:
Look in system preferences>keyboard. Is the use F1,F2… box unchecked?
    Try a couple of things:
Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.
    Reset PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Reset the SMC (look in the knowledge-base articles. Your profile is not complete and I cannot point you at the specific article).

  • Controlling Itunes 10 with G15 keyboard

I am trying to find out how to control Itunes 10 with my G15 keyboard while Itunes is in the background. It used to work in previous versions but has since stopped responding unless it is in the foreground

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3063147
there is a .dll you can download that will make it work, but after 15 mins, it stops working. Used to work fine with older versions of itunes, so it's not the windows update.

  • Wireless keyboard connection failing, hardware or software?

I've had the apple steel wireless keyboard for I'd say coming up on a second year now and it suddenly stops and then starts working. Unfortunately, it stopped working now. Here's what I have tried:
    1) replaced batteries a number of times
    2) purchased a new bluetooth receiver
    3) deleted and re-paired device.
Nothing seems to be working. Th light turns on, and blinks in discoverable mode. When I delete and re-pair the device, once it immediately gave me the code and started working. Now, it sees the keyboard and when I click on it in the bluetooth list to continue to pair, it times out saying that I should make sure it is in range or check the pair coding options. So as far as I can tell, it sees the keyboard for whatever problem but wont go into the pairing process correctly. Has the keyboard just failed? Or is there something on the software side? I'd hate to buy another one to find it's software. Plus, surely it should last for a couple of years?
    Other info:
It seems to happen sometimes after the computer has gone to sleep, but not always, and it fails other times.
I have purchased a large wireless trackpad in the last month. Had no conflicts until the last week when the keyboard starting acting nuts. But could there be a conflict there?
Any help would be appreciated. My workstation is set up pretty tightly with all it's components and the wireless apple keyboard has its place.
    I'm at a loss.

Interesting. I thought that it might have been interference from my new Apple TV, but after I unplugged it I got the same issue.
I'm almost positive it's software but have not wanted to reinstall the OS. I'm also surprised that I don't see more people bringing up the same issue which really makes me wonder.

  • Control keys of latest apple wireless keyboard don't work on iPhone 4

    Hello;
I just brought the latest apple wireless keyboard(2011) and I tried the control keys(briteness, music control, volume control) none of them worked on my iPhone 4(ios 4.3.5), but those shortcuts like: cmd+a, cmd+c...worked very well, I don't know what's wrong with this and I think those control keys are very useful, I'm planning to replace my old Lenovo laptop with my new accessory, who can give me a hand please!!! Thank you!

A number of folks have reported that the newest Apple BT keyboard, designed for use with Mac OS X Lion has this issue. Unfortunately the new KB has the same model number as the one for Snow Leopard. The way to tell them apart is the F4 key, on the Snow Leopard KB it has the Dashboard icon. I would try to find an Apple retailer with the Snow Leopard KB in stock and exchange your KB for one of them. The Snow Leopard KBs work great with the iPad, with all applicable function keys operating.
