Wireless keyboard + Safari + Changing Keyboards shortcuts = ARRRGH

So I was wondering if anyone knew a way to change the shortcuts on the keyboard for Safari, specifically I would like to change the "Command-R" function which reloads the page to "F5". I have gone throught the whole keyboard shortcuts tab in system prefs (System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts) and added the safari menu command and my shortcut I wanted to add yada yada yada and nothing ever works no matter how many times I try or what I change. I am not sure whether or not the fact that I am the Apple Wireless keyboard has anything to do with this but I doubt it does. Any ideas?

G5h6 Keyboard error - change keyboard or motherboard?

Dear Community,
I am proud owner of a T420 laptop. Unfortunately the keyboard has stopped working properly.
When I type:
g it writes g5
h it types h6
Probably that happens because I spilled water over my keyboard once, though I didnt experience any issues directly after that.
Now I connected an external keyboard and everything works fine.
Still for me the questions remain:
-should I exchange the keyboard
or
-the motherboard
and
-how do I do that, is it possible as an amateur?

Does the keyboard show up at all in Windows in Device Manager? I would expect not, but it may be showing up with an "unknown device" message or similar. If that's the case, you could try re-installing the driver for it. If it's not showing up in Device Manager, turn the computer off, remove the battery, and clear the CMOS with the jumper cap. Wait 2-3 minutes, then try booting up again with the keyboard attached. If it's still unrecognised, I'd say it's a mainboard problem.

Change keyboard shortcuts for zoom

Hi
When looking at the keyboard shortcuts for MAC, the 100% zoom is down as command alt '0', yet it is showing in the dropdown list as 'n'?
Is there a way of changing the shortcuts. Previously the 100% zoom was simply command (apple) '0', which is now fit to page.
Can anyone help with how to change the short cuts please?

There was a change to a bizarre shortcut of Fn+n for 'View > 100%' (equivalent to the previous 'View > Actual Pixels' which had shortcut Cmd+1) when Retina compatibility was introduced a few months ago.

Error when changing keyboard shortcuts

When I changed the shortcut for "Interpret footage" (from Cmd+Option+G to Cmd+Option+F) in the text file called "Adobe After Effects 13.0 Mac en_US Shortcuts.txt" and open AE, I get an error prompt that looks like this.

I had the same issue, but with an English keyboard, and multiple changed key commands.
i think it has something to do with the way the .text is changed... i duplicated mine, changed the duplicate, removed the original from the folder, renamed the duplicate file.
that "should" work, in theory... but for some reason it didn't .
i fixed this just by replacing the duplicate i made with the original.

can anyone help me to modify the keyboard shortcuts in Indesign CS4. When I create a new set in Edit Menu Keybord shortcuts and try to change Cmd+H to hide frame edges instead of hide indesign its not happening. can anyone tell me what is correct way to change the shortcut.

What's the default for hide edges on Mac? It's Ctrl + H which would in most circumstances lead me to think that it would be Cmd + H on Mac, but I think you are running into a problem with the OS using that key combo and intercepting the keystrokes.
Edit: that should have been Ctrl + H on Windows.

Cinnamon keyboard layout change shortcut

As I see, Cinnamon doesn't allow to set shortcut to (Alt + Shift) for keyboard layout changing. I've managed to found few solutions:

Satellite P300 - Keyboard layout changed

Well, I am running a Toshiba Satellite P300 and I am having problem.
I just got it back from repair and they changed the motherboard. I have updated the BIOS. I did a fresh OS install to Windows 7 that. I didn't have this problem before it went out for repair but now when I press the Num Lock key, it changes my number pad to numbers, as expected, but also changes the right side of my keyboard to numbers as well which is very frustrating.
I have been surfing for 2 days online to find a solution to it and even called the tech that was in charge of the repair and no one has any answers for me.
And another problem after repair : without Model Name ,Part Nr and Serial Nr

So far it looks like W7 has the correct driver and the external keyboard has its key presses correctly processed.

When you press num lock on the external keyboard does it also toggle the alpha keys on the keyboard to numerics? - Trying to establish if the key code from the external k/b is the same as that generated by num lock on the laptop. Your laptop is behaving as if it is a laptop with no numeric key pad and you can toggle between "numbers or text". I've had a search and can find no "shortcut" keystrokes to do that - I also searched to see if a "Shift Lock" could be emulated since that is a key that has disappeared from modern keyboards.
I presume you have checked that your BIOS is the current version. The only other suggestion I've got is that the replacement m/b has not had Toshiba "lock outs" applied and it is in a generic bios state and you can access settings such as the number of keys on the keyboard or legacy keyboard support. Suggest you identify some "small" Toshiba laptops with no numeric keypad and download their manuals to see how they handle no numeric keypad or just ring Toshiba and ask them?

With your laptop num lock on when you hold "Fn" and press one of the remapped keys do you get a letter? (add the shift key and get a capital) if so it's behaving like a Satellite L450D-11X (fn+f11 is the numeric toggle on that machine)

Keyboard language changed only in Firefox not other programmes

I have Firefox in English but I use a Spanish keyboard, meaning some keys like question marks or quotation marks are in different places, there are accents, a key for ç, etc. It has always worked normally but today, while the keyboard is working correctly with all other programmes in Firefox it works as if the settings were changed to an English (I think) keyboard.
I don't have that problem with Chrome though, it's just Firefox. How is that possible (add question mark here, I can't guess what key I'im supposed to use for it).
I haven't changed anything in the settings, so the only possibility could be some kind of shortcut I've accidentally pressed, even though I don't know how that's even possible, as I assumed you can't have several keyboard language settings selected at the same time depending on the programme you're using.
I type in different languages so this is terribly annoying! Thanks for any help.

It is possible that you have switched the keyboard layout by accident by using the key sequence to rotate the layout.

Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application and you may have changed the keyboard layout by accident via a keyboard shortcut.

Make sure that you have the Language bar visible on the Windows Taskbar

Change Keyboard Layout, But Keep Language

I have a MacBook with USA keyboard layout.
While installing, by mistake i selected Latin American keyboard.
Now, i want my language to still be "Spanish/Argentina", but they keyboard layout should be USA.
How can i do that? Note that I don't want to have many input keyboards and then have to switch between latin and english language.

I don't see an option to change "keyboard layout" only.
Do you really not see the Tab called Input Menu under system preferences/international? There are boxes to check for keyboard layouts, and one is called US.
Another Tab is called Language, and there you can put Spanish (actually Español) at the top to keep your OS in Spanish.
Another Tab, in the middle, is called Formats.
PS If you want to type Spanish with the US layout, you can use the Option/Alt key shortcuts. A list can be found here:

Ever since I used an apple wireless keyboard, the onscreen keyboard will not appear

I have been using the iPad for several years. Recently I added the apple wireless keyboard. Ever since, when I do not have the apple wireless keyboard the onscreen keyboard refuses to appear. Makes entering text difficult! Wuld be happy to learn of a solution. Thanks.

Did you turn off Bluetooth after turning off the Apple Wireless Keyboard? Open Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off.
Another thing you can do is, before turning off the keyboard, select a text box on the iPad (for example, when you type an email or you type on a Safari webpage) and press Eject key on the keyboard, so the virtual keyboard will show

How to use French keyboard with FCP English Shortcut

Hi,
I have a new MAC PRO and im using FCP, the shortcut wont work
when my keyboard is French keyboard. I always need to change it back to english
to be able to use them. Since im always writing in french, it became a pain to switch it 20-30 times per days
On my last mac I didnt have that problem, I tried looking for some setting in FCP
but I can't find any.
Does anybody know how to make this work ?

Remapping is where you set keys on your keyboard to perform specific functions that aren't otherwise set to keys. Once you change your keyboard to French, you lose some of the pre-mapping capabilities. Go into Tools/Keyboard Viewer, and you can map from there. If it's confusing, look it up in the manual. It's clearly outlined for you.

You need to go to Your Stuff > Preferences and set both radio buttons to never receive mail.

Change keyboard commands in Lightroom

It should be possible to change keyboard commands in Lightroom. Like in Photoshop.
The problem I have on my Swedish keyboard is to toggle between grid and loupe mode. With the "`" key. Is it possible somehow to reassign to another key? Its really annoying. Its a very useful shortcut. :-)

I am having similiar difficulties with the german keyboard and the english LR - a workaround i use is autohotkey a little prg that lets you use macros and reassign keys.. good luck

"Change Keyboard Type" dosen't show in Keyboard Preferences

I am using Logitech wireless solar keyboard. But today my iMac doesn't recognize the keyboard. I tried it with another iMac, and it worked. So I tried to reset and paired the keyboard with the first iMac. But one thing I noticed was that in this iMac, the "Change Keyboard Type" in Keyboard Preferences is not showing. The OS I am using is the most recent, and the same with the other iMac. In fact, this iMac is newer than the second one. Can anyone help me solve this problem? Right now I am typing with Apple wireless keyboard. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for your suggestions but they haven't solved the problem for the iMac. Right now we are using a work-around by having students type their text in Text Edit and then paste it into FCP. This is very strange. As I said before the keyboard works in all other applications, is set to US standard layout and allows certain key commands like copy, cut and paste. We've tried deleting and reinstalling FCP with a shutdown in between and the problem persists. Has anyone else heard of this happening to another Mac? Thanks.
