Wireless Keyboard slow and weird

I loved my Mac when I got it but lately the keyboard is very slow to display on the ssscreen and types strange by putting double letters and spacees. I have just bought a new keyboardd because I thought the oooldd one may have got damaged by the kids buttt the problem iiiis still there (as you can see). I ammmmm devastated as it has totally ruiiined the use of my lovellllly immaaaaaac. Can anyone help me?

Testing testing, I have just put the new batteries in it that came with the new keyboard and the display is still fairly slow and the characters are doubling as much. It is a pain as I can only type very slowly for the keyboard to work and I am a fast typist. It is very frustrating, I spend more time using the backspace than anything else!!! There is a slight improvement but not much.

  • Apple wireless keyboard, mouse and trackpad battery management is SO MESSED UP! HELP!

I have like 2 dozen batteries that I have swapped in the days since 10.8.4. The **** thing just drains in like 4 days. I am using apple wireless keyboard and mouse/trackpad (either at a time) with my macbook pro that is in closed lide clamshell mode less than a feet away from these devices. the batteries are draining like crazy! 3-4 days! they used to work for like weeks! i have heard in another thread that there is some bluetooth driver issue.
i know many of you would come up with things to check for like other wireless devices, etc. but like I said i have been using this since 2011 and only now since 10.8.4 they have gone crazy!
whats even more weird is that i dont think the batteries are really draining. its something to do with the battery management hardware/software that fails to see the power inside. when i remove the currently dead battery and put in one that was indicated having 0% charger i get a magically 50+ % sometimes event 80! a reboot and the figure is something else! since this is happening with all the three input devices i think its something to do with macbook pro.
    any fix?

    SOLUTION:
Put the devices in "Manual paring mode"
    1. Turn device off.
    2. Push and hold in power button until the LED starts flashing on and off.
    3. Try the paring procedure.
    4. It should work.
I went to the apple store and this is what they did. They got the trackpad paired no problem, but the keyboard would refuse to make connection. At first they blamed windows and didn't want to replace the keyboard because it worked fine under OSX. However I made them try one of their keyboards and it paired fine. So they ended up swapping out my keyboard for one of the newer ones and now it pairs with both windows and OSX with no problem!

  • Mac Wireless Keyboard is Action Weird

Okay, so suddenly my iMac wireless keyboard has started acting strange. I was just working some html/css code for school. I got up, went to the bathroom and when I came back my keyboard started acting up.
If I press the "o" key it is automatically capitalized "O".
If I press the left shift key all by itself it also displays a capital "O"
If I press the enter key it not only returns but also types "\"
From testing out the rest of the keys, those seem to be the only ones acting up. I just don't know why.
I found a different discussion with someone who had a similar problem and it was suggested that maybe liquid got it, which would make sense here but I literally walked away for 3 mins and came back to this. I'm the only one awake so I know no one else touched my computer.
I've tried turning the keyboard on and off.
I've disconnected it and reconnected it.
I've told it to restore default modifier keys
    I've restarted my computer
I don't know what else to try.
Please, can anyone help? Luckily I have a logitech keyboard that allows me to type (Obviously this keyboard works fine.) but I'd like to ket my wireless back.

I didn't reset the PRAM settings but I marked your comment as helpful because I know useful that can be.
I actually left my keyboard off all day and used my logitech. I turned it on just now to see if it was still acting up and it is now working perfectly fine.
I don't know why but sometimes devices just need to be given a break I guess my keyboard was one of them.
Thank you for your help Barry.

  • Wireless keyboard A1016 and new MacBook Pro

I have searched but can't find whether my old Apple wireless keyboard (white case) is compatible with my new MacBook Pro. My computer finds the keyboard but then asks for a passcode and it doesn't connect. Maybe I need a firmware update??

    {quote}Thank you for your help.{quote}
No problem. I love my white plastic Bluetooth keyboard with the NUMERIC KEYPAD! I plan on using until I die or Apple offers another Bluetooth keyboard with the numeric keypad. I'm sure there are lots of others that feel the same way.

  • Why is my Apple Wireless Keyboard connected and paired, but I can't type anything?

    Hey,
I’ve been using Apple Wireless Keyboard (A1314) for a year now. Yesterday it stopped working. I can see it’s connected and paired, but I can't type. I tried unparing and pairing it again and sometimes it helps - I have no idea why, but once in ten attempts it works. When it works, though, some strange happen - like my Mac increases it’s volume level like I hit F12 on the keyboard.
When I go to Bluetooth menu battery level is hardly ever shown up. Also, when my keyboard is connected it takes a few seconds to open forementioned bluetooth menu.
So, it there change I will be able to repair it? It’s not like it costs $5. :c

  • Wireless keyboard freezes and takes time to 'unfreeze'

    Hello,
My wireless keyboard randomly freezes when playing games and stays 'pushed down', even when my fingers are off the keys and the button isn't really down. It's really annoying me and getting me frustrated. I don't know whether its the connection between the keyboard and the usb stick i have in my desktop computer or something else. My mouse doesn't have this problem, and the keyboard and mouse both came together when i bought the computer about 2-3 weeks ago. Any help will be much appreciated,
                                                                      Sam

    @ Legendary333,
    Thanks for that information.
    1.       Turn off the computer
    2.       When you turn it on tap the F8 key repeatedly, it should lead you to a black screen with a list of options
    3.       Toggle down to safe mode with networking and press enter
    4.       Once in safe mode test you keyboard there
Test it for at the least 20 minutes to see if the issue occurs in this environment.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard Is Acting Weird

My computer goes to sleep mode and the Apple Wireless Keyboard seems to go dormant.  I start to type something and it is not working.  I turn the power on but it won't work.  It is still connected to Bluetooth, however, because when I take the batteries out of the keyboard a message comes on screen to say that the Connection is Lost.  I replace the batteries and click the "Power" button and a new message comes on screen saying that the Connection is Restored.  The keyboard works perfect after I do this, but then when the computer goes back to sleep mode or powers down after five minutes, I have to go through the whole sequence again to get the keyboard going again.
How can I permanently fix this so the keyboard is always working.  I have changed the batteries as well and that didn't solve the problem.

  • Differences between wireless keyboard old and new?

I was thinking of buying a wireless keyboard and appear to have a choice of buying the current model at reduced price (MB167B/A) or wait a couple of weeks for the newer model (MC184B/A).
This is obviously a no brainer - buy the cheaper one!
But what is the difference between the models? Apart from the newer one requires higher system requirements (MacOS X v10.5.8 and Aluminium Keyboard Software Update 2.0).
    Many thanks for any help.
    Cheers,
    Tony

    Hi Tony:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I have an "older" Bluetooth keyboard and it works just fine.
For about 20 bucks, I would buy the older one. I cannot see any difference in functionality.
Incidentally, battery use is an issue that has been discussed in these forums at length.
FWIW, I use 2650 mAH Duracell rechargeables and a 15 minute charger. I have a bunch of rechargeable batteries and I am never longer than 15 minutes from a full charge. Rechargeables do not have the battery life of Lithium ones, but I really do not care for the reasons I indicated above.

  • Wireless very slow and/or unstable after Kernel update to 3.13

I have a "fresh" install from 2 weeks ago. It was installed with Kernel 3.12. I have a rtl8192cu, it was dreadful, so as recommended I installed dkms-8192cu and everything was perfect.
After the upgrade to Kernel 3.13, both with the standard driver and with dkms-8192cu my connection is very slow or unstable.
As an example, in theory I have 20m, with 3.12 I was around 14m. With 3.13 I am around 1m or less, I can barely update my system because:
error: failed retrieving file 's-nail-14.6.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz' from archlinux.polymorf.fr : Operation too slow. Less than 1 bytes/sec transferred the last 10 seconds
    Wired everything goes fine.
I cannot downgrade to 3.12 because I need the new radeonsi improvements done with 3.13. I have this computer mostly to play Dota2.

    Rexilion wrote:
I misread that the in kernel driver of v3.12 was working properly. THat way you can figure out what exact change broke performance by testing different development kernels.
There is an in-kernel driver in staging called rtl8192u. It received a lot of changes in v3.12. Maybe try v3.11 and see if that works?
it didnt work in kernel 3.12, but with https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dkms-8192cu/ it worked perfect
in kernel 3.13 it is horrible both witht he stock driver or with the AUR package.

  • X11 keyboard layout and weird device recognition

    Hi,
After recent upgrade (mostly gnome-3.6-related) on my laptop I decided to drop gnome-settings-daemon and use lightweight xsettingsd for my i3wm desktop environment. However, with gnome-settings-daemon gone my X keyboard layout configuration was gone as well. I tried to configure it using the following lines in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "evdev keyboard catchall"
    MatchIsKeyboard "on"
    MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
    Driver "evdev"
    Option "XkbModel" "evdev"
    Option "XkbRules" "evdev"
    Option "XkbLayout" "us,ru"
    Option "XkbVariant" ",winkeys"
    Option "XkbOptions" "grp:caps_toggle,grp_led:scroll,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
    EndSection
This configuration works very well on my desktop computer, however, when I changed 10-evdev.conf on the laptop and restarted X11 (through restarting GDM or even rebooting), it didn't work. The layout was not switching on Capslock as it should have been. I even tried to use gnome-settings-daemon again, but it seems that they have changed something in it in 3.6 version, and my old configuration is not working anymore - launching gsd does not enable layout swithing. I couldn't manage to configure gsd again with gnome control center too - it now has completely different interface in keyboard settings.
However, issuing setxkbmap command with right options works, and layout switches correctly after it.
So, first part of my question: is there a way to drop setxkbmap command and use X11 config only?
My first action in debugging this was to look into Xorg.0.log, which brings me to the second part of my question. I found rather suspicious things there:
[ 27.070] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Power Button" (type: KEYBOARD, id 6)

    [ 27.138] (**) Option "xkb_options" "grp:caps_toggle,grp_led:scroll,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
So, it looks like that keyboard options really were applied to the keyboard (last entry) - strange that in fact this is not right, and these options do not work without setxkbmap.
However, there are very strange entries too - somehow my webcam, power button, sleep button and video bus (!) were recognized as keyboard! Is this normal behavior? This does not seem to have any consequences, but still this does not feel right.
    Regards,
    Vladimir.

Apparently my request was less reasonable than I realized...  How about this:
In an xterm, enter setxkbmap us (this assumes us is your default keymap, so you can use the command history to reset it).  Next, run setxkbmap colemak.  If it doesn't return an error (I get Error loading new keyboard description) type something, then press Caps Lock.  I just need to know if you get a backspace effect.  That's it, now run setxkbmap us from your history.  Thanks.

  • Classloader caching in signed applet is very slow and weird

I have a signed applet running in the 1.4.1_01 plugin environment, and
I'm getting the following kinds of messages when I use debug mode 5 in the console:
    Connecting http:[myserver]/someclass.class with no proxy
    Connecting http:[myserver]/someclass.class with cookie "JSESSIONID=..."
    Sometimes, the classloader will say:
    WARNING: Unable to cache someclass.class
Moreover, some classes will be repeated two or three times, as if the classloader is trying to get the same class two or three times.
Some of these classes are even in the java.lang package!!
The thing is, I'm actually trying to get the applet to use webservices, so I've signed the Apache Axis jar files (about 8 or so) and included them in the "cache_archive" parameter. The classes giving problems are from these archives, not from my main applet jar.
The applet will eventually work, but the first time takes a LONG time to initialize because the classloader is trying to verify all the classes (i think). Subsequent runnings of the applet within the same browser will be much faster, but the same thing will happen if I start a new browser instance.
    My questions are:
    1) Why is the classloader trying to load from my http server rather than from the local jars? (they seem to be statically cached, I checked the plugin control panel)
    2) Why is the classloader reloading the same classes multiple times?
    3) Is the classloader verifying the signatures for each class, because it's taking a long time due to very many classes (100's).
I can't seem to find ANY documentation for this at Sun or Google.
    Please help if you can!
    Andrew

I've got the same problem with applet using SOAP based on jwsdp.
But classloader only try to get classes from server that are used in SOAP calls.
The only workaround I found is to move this classes to root package, but still there are problems with
    Connecting http://<host>/int.class with no proxy
    Connecting http://<host>/int.class with no proxy
    WARNING: Unable to cache http://<host>/int.class
    requests.
Maybe this is a bug of Sun SOAP implementation?
