Wireless Keyboard Without Bluetooth

A few months back, I purchased a used G5 Dual Tower; I installed 10.4.11. The Mac came with a MI KB1045LSR wireless keyboard. After I created an account, a window came up that asked me the make of the keyboard, then the MI was recognized and worked flawlessly. I subsequently acquired an Apple wireless keyboard that connects via Bluetooth. For several reasons I may wish to go back to the MI. But I can't find the window I previously spoke of. Further, any documentation RE Macs and wireless keyboards only mentions Bluetooth and ignores everything else. How can I get he MI to work? I should mention that I own two Macs; both run 10.4.11. +The alleged "Change Keyboard Type" button does not appear: System Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse.+
Thanks.

I'm thinking that it's just going to work, since Bluetooth an USB Keyboard info, prefs, & drivers are separate, and if you plig in an unknown one, the System will pop up that box.
But, if you need to run KeyboardSetupAssistant, it's hidden in...
System/Library/CoreServices/KeyboardSetupAssistant.app/Contents/MacOS/KeyboardSe tupAssistant
The second instance inside the Packae runs in Terminal, the first is GUI.

  • TA24778 issues with pairing an Apple wireless keyboard by bluetooth with iPad Mini

Does anyone have any tips about successfully pairing an Ipad Mini with an Apple Wireless keyboard, please? Apart from changing the batteries on the keyboard, I have had a lot of difficulty in doing it successfully.

Which Apple wireless keyboard are you using?
See this Apple doc -> iOS: Apple Wireless Keyboard compatibility
The original Apple Wireless Keyboard, introduced in 2003, is not compatible:
Apple Wireless Keyboard (2003): Features a white case and uses four AA batteries.
If you're using a compatible keyboard, does it pair with your Mac? Try turning it off and then back on and then pairing it again.

  • I would like to AirPlay mirror my iMac and be able to use both my magic mouse and wireless keyboard, but the bluetooth range won't let me. Is there a way to extended its range?

I am buying an iMac to AirPlay mirror on my big screen TV with AppleTV (2nd generation). But my TV is located far away from my iMac and I won't be able to use my magic mouse or wireless keyboard via bluetooth connection. I know I can use an app to simulate both mouse and keyboard, but I really need to use the actual devices.
I wish there was a way to pair them to my iPad or iPhone, via bluetooth, and control my iMac via network. It is a cheap solution, as I wouldn't need to buy any other device. I believe all these devices, without modifications, have enough technology to be able to work as I've imagined. The only need was to adapt the software.
Is there a solution simple as this one, or do I have to buy a Bluetooth extender in order to use my magic mouse and wireless keyboard? If so, which BT extender do you suggest and what is its range?
    Thank you!

If you are still under warranty, contact Apple to get it serviced. You can also visit an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider to get it looked at.

  • Alittle Help p10946u Wireless Keyboard, Treo 700p

I bought a Palm 700p, it came with the p10946u Wireless Keyboard, without the CD. So I went on the Palm website and tried downloading the driver, and when it asked me to select my device, I didn't see the 700p. Is the keyboard not compatible with my phone?

I sympathise with you on finding difficulty in pairing the apple wireless keyboard with other equipment. I have found it impossible to pair my new apple aluminium wireless keyboard with my Nokia N96. I thought, mistakenly obviously, that all bluetooth equipment could interlink.
Can anyone enlighten me on these pairing problems please?

  • Wireless Keyboard with NumPad?

    Hi,
I'm looking for a wireless Apple keyboard with a Numpad ... but all I can find are wireless keyboards without the numpad or keyboards with numbad but also with a wire.
Does Apple provide the keyboards with numpad wireless? And if not, why?
    Thanks
    Konrad

Hi Konrad, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I personally hate the trend, but no they don't.
    And if not, why?
    Wireless keyboard.
banishes desktop clutter completely with a wireless keyboard to go with the wireless Magic Mouse. This low-profile keyboard takes up less desk space — 24 percent less — than larger keyboards. There’s no numeric keypad, so you can place your mouse comfortably next to the keyboard. And built-in Bluetooth means there are no cables to connect.

where is the hyperlink for your information ?
This PDF link has a good explanation of BT profiles:
    https://techtrain.samsungwireless.com/tekweb/Misc/Main/Accessories/Bluetooth_Pro files.pdf
The HID profile is the one needed for keyboard connection, and isn't included in iPhone 3.0 OS
where do you know, that this is not in the new os 3.0 ?
I know, because I have been using all the 3.0 betas. If you read the latest Apple site page listing the new 3.0 features, you won't see it there. Only stereo audio (A2DP) with audio/video remote control (AVRCP) were added.

  • Mac Mini doesn't recognize wireless keyboard

Have new Mac Mini. It has recognized bluetooth track pad but not the bluetooth keyboard that has functioned with Macbook Air previously.

Yes it is charged and I went ahead and changed out the current batteries to new ones.  When doing and going through the prompts it continues to not recognize the wireless keyboard via bluetooth.  The mac mini does recognize the wireless track pad.

  • Plz help: can i type Chinese using Apple wireless keyboard????

Kind of struggling whether should i buy a wireless keyboard for my ipad air 2 as i may have lotta word job related to Chinese and French, and i know that French is okay with the English keyboard, at least much eaiser than typing Chinese characters.
So the real concern is, can i type Chinese with the wireless keyboard without any problem?
I've seen some solutions (all didn't mention if it has been proved yet or not so i automatically assume they are all just beautiful hypotheses) posted in the community claiming you just need go to settings then select the international language you wanna use, and you will be all set (in both virtual and external keyboard)----is that true??? Pleeeease help, thousands of thanks

    Hi Chloe Violette,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to use the Apple Wireless Keyboard with English letters to type characters in different languages. This can be done by changing the import sources to type in other languages, including Chinese. For information on this process, please refer to the attached article.
OS X Yosemite: Use input sources to type in other languages

  • Apples wireless keyboard/to iphone connection

Hello, I am trying to pair the wireless keyboard via bluetooth to the iphone 3gs. Any help, it just is not recognized, whats the trick if there is one???
    ~k

    Page 43 of the manual:
    "Using an Apple Wireless Keyboard
For ease of typing, you can use an Apple Wireless Keyboard (available separately; iPhone 3GS or later).
The Apple Wireless Keyboard connects via Bluetooth, so you must pair the keyboard with iPhone. See “Pairing a Bluetooth Device with iPhone” on page 47.
Once the keyboard is paired with iPhone, it connects whenever the keyboard is within range (up to 30 feet). You can tell that the keyboard is connected if the onscreen keyboard doesn’t appear when you tap in a text field."

Do you have ios 4.1 on your iphone?

  • Ipad wireless keyboard light

New wireless keyboard.  Bluetooth 'ON' , both keyboard and Pad.
Indicator light behaves strangely.  Can't turn it off by re-pressing the switch.
Other reasonable conditions turn off the light, like turning off the iPad.
Issue is 1) Preserving batteries;  2) Driving under control.
Could be faulty switch, faulty light, erroneous microcode.

Rather than waste your time trying to troubleshoot, take the KB in for a warranty replacement (still in warranty within one year).

  • How long are the batteries for the Apple Wireless Keyboard supposed to last

I have an Apple Wireless Keyboard using Bluetooth to connect to my MBP. I'm using the keyboard about 10–12 hours a day. The battery typically lasts for only a month or two. Is this a normal life, or should it last longer than that? I've heard of experiences in which the battery can last upwards of a year.

You might as well use the macbook pro keyboard or purchase a wired keyboard to save on a monthly battery bill.
If 2 or 3 bucks every 1-2 months is that big of an issue, I agree.
But I bought and use mine for convenience, and that convenience is worth far more than the $2-3 for 3 AA alkaline batteries I spend as needed, even if it were on a monthly basis. Of course, if the built in keyboard serves you better, or a wired KB, certainly that would be the way to go (though I'm not sure why one would purchase a BT AWKB if that were the case). Think of what you spend money on for convenience. $3 a month, or 10 cents per day, or less than a penny per hour, for the convenience you apparently want (you bought the KB) works fine from my perspective. I look at the cost for me to golf, bike, fish, canoe, camp, ski, snowboard, scuba dive, eat out, travel, buy electronics and furniture, vehicles, clothes, etc. etc. etc. and if I could get those down to a penny an hour . . . well, it isn't going to happen.

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard Gone Crazy!

My Apple Wireless Keyboard's keys have either turned off or changed. For example, the keys QWERTYASDFGHZXCVBP123456,;'[]-=\[/ Do not work, and the others have gone crazy. They keys NMJKLIO Are displayed and/or work as:
    N: 0
    J: 1
    K: 2
    L: 3
    I: 4
    O:5
    M:6
I am currently typing this with an USB Hewlett-Packard Keyboard, which my iMac Mid 2011 doesn't like.
Is there anyone that can tell me how to fix this, perhaps someone running Lion, so I don't have to look up the differences on how to do stuff.
Also It would be really helpful If someone posted the Microsoft Windows-OS X Keyboard keys conversions!
    Thanks.

    Wow, thats insane.
Firstly, go into System Preferences > Keyboard > check "Show Keyboard & Character Viewers in menu bar".
Now in the top menu bar you should see a new square icon with an asterisk in it, click and select "Show Keyboard Viewer". You can use this this graphical keyboard to input just as a regular keyboard, and also see which modifer keys correspond as you hold them down.
Now, I'm guessing whatever is wrong its probably not with OSX if you can use your HP.
But in any case you should disconnect any peripherals and restart your iMac, IF you don't have automatic login turned on I suggest you do beforehand, just in case the HP bombs out too.
Now after restart, delete your Apple wireless keyboard from Bluetooth Preferences device list, and then turn your apple keyboard off by pressing and holding the power until the green light goes off, then single press to turn back on. Now click + in the device list, or "Set Up Bluetooth Devise" from the Bluetooth menu bar icon - see if you can re-pair it and test it out.
If that doesn't work, its probably hardware and you should take it back to the Apple store.
    Good luck man.
