Hello
If you have Intel WLAN card you can download and use the Intel WLAN client manager. You can find it under http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/detail_desc.aspx?ProductID=1637&DwnldID=9003&agr=N .

Incompatible Config Free and Wireless LAN driver/manager
Hi,
The *ConfigFree 5.90.05AB*, available in the Satellite MCE A100-498 download drivers area, is incompatible with the wireless lan manager *Intel PROSet Utility 12.4.0.0.3* (driver *Intel PRO/Wireless 3945/4965/5100/5300 12.4.0.21.1*), also available in the same place.
When both installed, the *Conectivity Doctor* and *Profiles* tool returns the error "+cfmain.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience+".
Is there any other version of ConfigFree that works with this wireless lan driver/manager version? Will Toshiba release another ConfigFree version?
Best regards,
FilipeSilvaYou can install what you want but please follow the exact installations order .
It is very important.
All offered drivers, tools and utilities are tested and I cannot imagine Toshiba will offer some new version for 3 years old notebooks. -
4404 wireless lan controller managment via wireless clients
I am having an issue managing a 4404 wireless lan controller via wireless clients.
I have checked the box "enable controller management to be accessible from wireless clients" under management. For some reason that does not seem to fix the problem (page cannot be displayed). I cannot ping the controller by IP but other devices on the same subnet respond. Everything else works fine.
I CAN manage the controller when plugged in a wired connection.
When I do a route print it is identical wireless or wired. The route simple points to my interface. If I modify the route on my computer to actually point to our gateway instead of the interface then everything works. But why should I have to do this only for my wireless connection and not my wired to manage this box? Thanks for the info. I narrowed the problem down to an ARP issue.
In order for me to connect to the controller, I run a batch file that creates a static ARP entry on my laptop. I don't have to do this for any other device except the controller. Not sure what the underlying cause is, but that works as a workaround right now. -
Wireless LAN driver upgrade for Portege A100
My wireless LAN is Atheros AR 5001X+. I keep receiving upgrade notification from Toshiba for Intel Pro Wireless XXXX.
Can anyone help how to identify wich Intel driver I have to use for my system (Portege A100 with XP Pro)?
Many thanksHi Max
I wonder why you want to update the Intel WLan card driver.
According to your first message you use Atheros AR 5001X+ WLan card and not Intel WLan card. Please dont mix the Intel cards with Atheros cards.
Ps: if you want to check your Wlan card driver version you have to go to the device manager.
There you have to select the WLan card and access the properties (right click). -

Client Management for an Active Small Business
HI Everyone,
I was looking to get advice on setting up our clients for our small business. We have a mixed environment but now are focused on the macs. We have mobile users and desktops and need to find some harmony...
Some issues, questions, I've run into:
- Do you setup laptops like desktops - requiring the user to log in and using homesync to backup all of their files? Do you suggest another setup with basic (time machine) backup?
- How can I allow users to install programs on their machines with access? Often times the machine admin's permission is needed to install Skype, Oovoo, or other programs our sales people use to conference call and they need me to enter them in. Is there a way to allow them to install, or have access, to do this?
Thanks,

Sort of. The mobile devices typically get portable home directory settings. (So that they work when the server is inaccessible.)
Do you suggest another setup with basic (time machine) backup?
The clients get set up with a backup device at whatever fixed location where they're most commonly used.

Folks can typically be configured to allow them to [run stuff out of their own directories|http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/MacOSX/Concep tual/BPFileSystem/Articles/WhereToPutFiles.html%23//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40001411 -BAJHCHJI]; there can be a [~/Application directory|http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/MacOSX/Conceptu al/BPFileSystem/Articles/Domains.html] established for each user.
It's possible to set folks up as local administrators, though I tend not to. -

Does Cisco NAC support Wireless LAN?
Hi There
I know Cisco NAC supports Wireless LAN. I have deployed this myself with various brands of Autonomous APs. These works fine only in in-band mode, not in out-of-band mode.
However, Cisco did mentioned for Cisco AP, with Cisco NAC and Cisco switches, out-of-band is supported. I tried this today, and it's either Cisco is wrong, which is highly unlikely, or I did not configure either the NAC portion or the Cisco AP correctly, which is most likely? I wonder where did I go wrong? Please somebody, advice me on this?
Regards,
Ram
+6012-2918870Hi Ramraj,
You can do out-of-band with Wireless deployments now, however you must have a Wireless Lan Controller managing your APs. You cannot do it with standalone APs.
The guide below goes through most of the configuration:

Support for Internet based client Management - SCCM 2012
Hi There,
My Company wants to go for Internet based client Management in SCCM 2012 SP1 R2 and here is the design I'm proposing. I'm getting a bit confused at one point and need suggestion....
Everything would work on HTTPS ( PKI Certificate based )... LAN and Internet.
1 Primary ( with non-client facing roles installed ) on LAN with two site systems.
- One Site System configured for INTRANET support only with MP, DP and SUP -> To support LAN users ( Allow
Intranet-only connections )
- One Site System configured for INTERNET support only with MP, DP and SUP -> To support Internet users ( Allow
Internet-only connections )
The INTERNET facing site system is in DMZ network connected to parent Primary via Firewall.
We want internet clients to talk to ONLY DMZ SCCM Site System and no connection to corporate LAN. We cannot open any ports for internet based clients to LAN.
If this is the supported scenario, then why we need to put the Internet FQDN in the Primary server Site System property. This server would not be available to internet. It should only be my DMZ SCCM server client should connect for MP, DP and SUP and only
this DMZ server should be accessible to client over internet.
Also, what least ports should be opened between :
- Parent Primary and its internet facing site system kept in DMZ
- DMZ Site system and internet clients.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
SamThe FQDN has only to be specified on the Internet facing site system. You can leave this field blank on the primary site Server.
Ports to Open:
Internet --> DMZ Site Server:
TCP Port 443
TCP Port 80, if Fallback Status Point is installed
DMZ Site Server --> Primary Site:
TCP 135, 49152-65535
TCP 445
TCP 135, 24158 (fixed with
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb219447(v=vs.85).aspx )
TCP 80, 443
If you have some other roles installed, please consult this page:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh427328.aspx

Best Practice for DHCP when Anchoring to a Guest Wireless LAN Controller
Hi all,
I'm interested in the communities opinion in relation to DHCP provisioning when using auto-anchor/guest tunneling.
As far as I can tell, one cannot use the internal DHCP on the anchor controller when using auto-anchor due to incompatibility between the auto-anchor feature and DHCP Option 82.
The scenario is as follows:
Guest controller is the anchor which provides Internet access to guests.
There is a foreign controller which is configured to anchor to the guest controller.
The internal DHCP server is configured on the guest anchor controller, therefore DHCP proxy must be enabled for DHCP to work.
DHCP proxy enables Option 82.
The guidlines for guest tunneling state that DHCP Option 82 isn't supported. (Ref: Deploying and Troubleshooting Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers - Ch14)
So, the internal DHCP server requires DHCP proxy to be enabled; this in turn enables Option 82, which stops DHCP leases being made to clients connected to the foreign controller.
Given that a guest WLC would normally be placed in a DMZ, the internal DHCP server may often be the only DHCP solution available.
I look forward to hearing your opinions.
Thanks
Rhodri JenkinsThere are a couple of options here if you need to get proxy disabled
1) pinhole with an ACL that allows dhcp to pass your internal servers
2) run dhcp on a switch, router, or firewall in the dmz
3) if you are using a cab,e modem or dsl for the guest users, you can let that do the dhcp
In general I've seen most of these in play, but I like option 2 myself

Add new known wireless network via Client Management - Possible?
Is it possible to add a known wireless network via Client Management and if the answer is yes, how can you do it?
Other ways to add a known wireless network to a bunch of clients?
Thanks a lot!
Best wishesHello again,
I've tried something else.
1. Adding the network to our image master (via System Preferences)
2. Copying:
/Library/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
/Library/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
/Library/Keychains/System.keychain
from our master to every client which shall be able to use the new network.
That seems to work because the network is shown up in System Preferences -> Network -> Options -> Airport -> Preferred networks.
Unfortunately this solution has unpleasant side effects. For example the computer name is changed back to the computer name of the master, because the computer name is stored in the preferences.plist file, too.
Any ideas to get the same conclusion without those side effects?
Thanks a lot!
Best wishes -
Members,
Any suggestions as to which is the best WLAN management application to use for AP 1200s?
Our WLAN Network is small at the moment but could grow a lot bigger.
I would like to try Cisco Wireless LAN solution Engine, but unfortunately they do not make available an evaluation copy.
So, any ideas?
Regards,
Martin.Martin,
I am aware of a solution that effeciently manages, moitors and helps in mass-configuration of small and medium sized WLAN infrastructure including all Cisco Accesspoints, Switches and routers.
If you are interested send me an e-mail at [email protected] I can refer you to the appropriate contact. They do provide an evaluation copy.
