Wireless media disconnected (WRT54G)

Regarding this problem I used  a few command for example: ipconfig/all, reset wireless zero configuration; my laptop & my desktop see the Router they pick up the SSID, but unable to connect. However when I went out there with my laptop to another neighborood it pick up signal and was able to go on the Internet. When I went back home it sees it, but no connection. I reset the Router, I still have the same message. So, is there any other command I have to use to make the Router back on the track. It used to work properly, anytime I turn on my laptop in the right corner I can see how quick the Router is giving an IP address to the laptop. If I connect a Cat5 from the router to the laptop, yes I found connection to go on the internet. Remove the Cat5 no connection. I have a feeling there is something does not go well in the Router. So, could you please help me
Best regards,

  • Wireless Viao disconnects WRT54G

Whenever my new Viao accesses my WRT54G wirelessly it disconnects all those connected (wired and wireless) to the router. Anyone have a clue? I've decereased the xmit power on the Viao but that did nothing. Also, noticed that while users are connected DHCP CLients Table does not show that connection - why?

Thanks Brickmonkey - I tried another channel, and have security set to WPA and the problem still occurs. It's strange - I have two wired connections and three wireless - 2 Macbooks and the Viao. When the Viao connects it knocks the two wired connections off and they disappear from the DHCP clients connection list, yet wireless remian. I've tried many things, lowering the xmit power on the Viao, changed wireless card config., upgraded all FW, no success. So, I've given up for now and decided to resurrect an old BEFSR41 and am using it as the DHCP server with two wired connections and have WRT connected to the BEF to support the wireless (BTW I used the excellent description of how to do this which I found on this forum!). This is working with no problems, turn Viao on/off wired connections remain, but this requires another power connection, a second box etc.
I'll try your last suggestion as I would like to find this problem, but the Viao user is clamoring for her laptop...
Thanks again and best for the holidays.

  • Wireless not connected media disconnected

I have a Compaq presario with wireless & wired lan, running winXP sp2 and all latest updates.  I have comcast connection, motorola modem, vonage phone, linksys router nr041 then a linksys wrt45gs wireless router.  I have upgraded the firmware also.  I can connect to the wired connection with no problems.  I cannot connect to the wireless because I get the message "no connection".  when I look in the ipconfig I see the message "media disconnected".  Contacted linksys and tried their suggestions, the wireless router resetting, both router resets, both router and modem resets and no luck.  I changed the settings to remove all security, disabled my firewall, changed the channel to every one from 1-11.  Still no connection.  Anyone got any new ideas?

My computer must be unique.  I have a Broadcom.  At any rate after trying for weeks I managed to get it running.  I did so many things I am not sure what ones worked.  What I do know is HP was the most helpful in solving the issue.  After I downloaded a couple of helper files and a couple of upgrades, it popped right up there.  I still need to secure it but I am going to enjoy what I have for a couple of days before I change anything.  (Scared).  I live in a rural area so not worried much about someone accessing it for a couple of days.
    Thanks fall all the help.

  • WRT54G wireless randomly disconnecting

I've never had this problem before but recently I am constantly being disconnected from the net. What's strange is that everything seems to be perfectly normal, it just.. dies.
All the lights on my modem and router are the way they're suppose to be, however nothing works, not even my routers setting page works. The only way to fix this is to turn my computer off, turn my modem off and unplug everything from my router then turn and plug everything back on. However this does not always fix it, but it allows access to my routers setting page.
In my router settings, everything is normal, i go to my status page and disconnect and reconnect manually, however this takes a few attempts and sometimes it gives me the error "Can not find IP address on this PPPoE server".
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? I've never encountered this problem before nor have I even heard of this kind of problem.
If needed my router is a Wireless-G, Model WRT54G, Ver. 8, Firmware Version: v8.00.2

The same thing happens to me with my cable modem and it is new. I can get as long as 5 hrs or as little as 1 hr before the internet just dies. The modem is still working but I have to switch everything off and then restart my PC just to get back on the internet. Would the fact that my OS is Vista be a problem?
Also, I am fairly basic in terms of my computer literacy, so what it bridging and how can I check and see if this would aid me?

  • Wireless-G Model WRT54GS V7 Firmware 7.50.0 - easylink Advisor 1.5.1044

    I have a Wireless-G Model WRT54GS V7.50.0 Firmware for easylink Advisor 1.5.1044
Connected to a highspeed connection, and then connected (Hardwired in port 1 of router) to a Dell system running XP SP3.
I bought a new Laptop that is running Windows 7 and the laptop causes the connections to drop when it is powered on.
Then the laptop is always dropping the connection and re-establishing the connection. Is this problem because of windows 7?
If I do not bring the laptop up, i can run the desktop with no problem. Running WPA security mode.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
    John

Is your Desktop computer is a Wired or Wireless? Are you facing the problem only on your Windows 7 Computer or on all the wireless computers?
You can try to change the Wireless Settings on your Router and check if that makes any difference...
Login to the setup page of your Router and click on the Wireless tab.... and below change the Wireless Channel to 11-2.462GHz and click on Save settings.... Then click on the Sub tab "Advance Wireless Settings" and below Change the Beacon Interval to 50 .....Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 ....Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

HELP I have a wireless Linksys router WRT54G connected through my cable company broadband modem on a Mac. I have another computer to which I installed wireless capability because it didn't come with it. This required attching some piece of equipment to the back of the PC which enabled it to get on the internet without another cable modem. My question is this. If I get an iphone or a laptop(with built in wireless ability) will I automatically be able to go on the web because of the router on the Mac.

yes certainly... if you get any wireless device in network that would certainly connects to a wireless n/w of router...

  • FIOS and Wireless Connection Disconnecting

I now have Verizon FIOS and only on my MacBook Pro the wireless keeps disconnecting after 5 minutes of inactivity. I tried testing connectivity on a Windows laptop and on an iPad and there are no issues.  I called VZ and they said this is an Apple Macbook issue as they ran diagnostics and all the tests and configurations were all set correctly.  Does anyone else have this issue and is there any solution?
    Thanks.

so I just got the blazing fast Fios last week and love everything about it except about 50% of the time I need to restart my laptop (which is hooked up wireless) in order to connect.  When I initially connect it shows that it is connected but cannot receive anything in a browser.  The remedy is a restart.  but I only need to do this about 50% of the time.
Interestly,  If I am having problems and cannot connect I can still receive a skype ping (but cannot browse to any pages using FF or IE)
I called tech support and they were very nice but did not solve.
    Anyone else with this?

Sounds like an issue on your laptop.  Can you ping anything outbound?  It sound like the DNS on your laptop is not connecting properly, or the network arp cache is hosed.  If you're using XP or Vista you should be able to "repair" the network connection without having to restart the laptop -- this is essentially what a restart will do for you relative to network issues without having to restart.  Right click on the network icon in the right toolbar area and select Diagnose and Repair.

  • My wireless mouse disconnects after a long sleep, and only rebooting machine makes it come back.

My wireless mouse disconnects after a long sleep time, always overnight, and pushing buttons, replacing batteries, etc. doesn't wake it up again.  I have to reboot the machine, sometimes losing data, in order to make it work again.  I am kinda new to mac, so hopefully I am just missing something easy.

  • K7N420 + WinXP + Netgear RP114 = Network Media Disconnected

I'm using Cox cable connection at home.  When I connect the ethernet cable through the Netgear RP114 Cable Router/Switch, I get an error message in WinXP saying that the cable is not connected.  The link light on the Motherboard blinks once every second. ipconfig also shows media disconnected.
When I connect the cable directly from the modem to the motherboard, both the link and util lights are on (neither of them are blinking), but I get a 0.0.0.0 IP in windows XP.   The "media disconnected" went away, but still can't get online because of the 0.0.0.0 IP.

  • Connecting to wireless media player (Magicbox IMP) using Airport

We've just bought a Magicbox IMP (internet radio/media player) and have been assured that it will work on a Mac. The only time I've used airport before was to connect to a wireless broadband router (which I'm not using at the moment as it's in another location). Even without that, I should be able to connect to the IMP to play my iTunes files, according to Magicbox. I have set up a new wireless computer-to-computer network (using 'create network' in the drop-down airport menu). When I tell the IMP to search for networks it finds the network but then returns a 'network error' message: "Wireless configuration invalid. Bad ESSID or wrong key". I have been through all the possible settings with the tech support at Magicbox and they have now said the problem is in the network setup. Apple tech support say I have set the network up correctly and can help me no futher. So a classic stalemate. Has anyone out there had any experience of Magicbox IMP or any other type of wireless media player and can give me some guidance please? Many thanks.

What are the benefits of extending a wireless network then ?
Unfortunately, you are not extending your wireless network since the Express is not compatible with your router for that purpose.
The benefits to extending a wireless network...assuming that your Express is working with a compatible wireless router.....are the same as "joining" with the added plus that the Express is also providing more wireless signal, so the wireless signal strength will be provided over a greater area.
Another question is, the only purposes of joining a wireless network are for AirTunes, and remote printing ?
As I mentioned above, the Express can be used for AirTunes or a remote printer when it is configured to "join" a network. It can only "extend" a wireless network when it is used with another Apple product. In that case, the Express is configured to "extend a wireless network".
