Wireless mouse prevents proper sleep!

Hi,
At work, I've been using a Microsoft wireless mouse (Mobile Mouse 4000) with my new ThinkPad T430s. The problem is that every time I try to put the laptop to sleep (e.g. by closing the lid, or via Fn+F4), the machine seems to go into what I can only describe as half-sleep: The monitor turns off, the keyboard is off too, but the fan keep running and I don't see the moon LED that's supposed to turn on when in sleep mode.
At that point, the only way to bring the machine back to life is to shut it down by pressing and holding the power button! Very annoying to say the least...
This problem doesn't happen when I'm home (where I don't have the actual mouse, though the USB dongle is still attached to the USB port).  It also doesn't happen when I use a *wired* mouse. So I'm pretty sure it has to do with the wireless mouse.
I've already tried installing all recent windows, and driver updates (using Lenovo System Update 5). Also, I'm running windows 7 pro if anyone is curious.
Any ideas as to how to solve this issue?
Many thanks!
Shawn

Hi,
I ran into a similar problem a couple of years ago.  Seems unlikely that you're having the same problem but this might be worth a try: with the dongle plugged in and the mouse active (at work, or bring it home), run windows update.  See if it offers any HID-related updates.

  • Sleep Problem - Microsoft Wireless Mouse

    Hi Folks!
I have a MBP Unibody, summer 2009, and I installed Snow Leopard last week.
My computer won't sleep unless I close the cover. I know what the problem is, it is apparently my Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse, which is plugged into my USB port. Removing the transmitter from the USB port solves the problem.
Anyone know how this problem can be fixed? I like my wireless mouse!
    WJD

I have a very similar problem. I have a 15" MBP March 2009. SL 10.6.1. I have a logitech Optical Mini Mouse, when I close the lid it trys to sleep, once the snoring or breathing led starts dimming, it wakes up and then trys to sleep again in a loop, an endless loop.
I installed the logitech driver 3.1 for OS X 10.6, and that did not help, it behaves the same with and without the driver.
removing the usb dongal solves the problem, and it sleeps just fine.
Also drop down lists in firefox flash quickly and are nearly unusable, but work perfectly once the dongal is removed.

  • My wireless mouse disconnects after a long sleep, and only rebooting machine makes it come back.

My wireless mouse disconnects after a long sleep time, always overnight, and pushing buttons, replacing batteries, etc. doesn't wake it up again.  I have to reboot the machine, sometimes losing data, in order to make it work again.  I am kinda new to mac, so hopefully I am just missing something easy.

    Maybe something here will help:

Where do you use it.   On a desk, a mousepad?   Is the mouse pad a solid dark colour?   If you have some plain black cloth, try it on that.

  • Downloaded Mountain Lion on my iMac.  Why is it so slow opening up from sleep and taking so long for the wireless mouse to engage?

Downloaded Mountain Lion on my iMac.  Why is it so slow opening up from sleep and taking so long for the wireless mouse to engage?

Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Solution found for waking up wireless mouse after it goes to sleep

I've seen a couple posting saying they were having the same problem with the wireless mouse that comes with the Lenovo Enhanced Performance Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
Problem:  After a period of time the mouse goes into a sleep mode while the keyboard appears to be functioning.  Sliding the mouse back and forth does nothing to awaken it.  Most people report having to mash the little yellow sync button on the mouse and usb dongle.
Solution:  Pick up the mouse just far enough to break the surface that it is sitting on and 'drop' it back down.  Mouse turns back on.
I've tried the above steps several time on three seperate setups that we have and it has worked each time.

You do not have a RAM disk unless you set one up. Currently, Mac OS X does not support the creation of a RAM disk except through third-party utilities such as ramBunctious. Basically, a RAM disk is a virtual disk that you can store files on for very fast access or to reduce disk usage while running on battery power. This disk is based in RAM, and so will be lost (unless written to disk) when power is removed. In this case, "losing" the RAM disk would mean forgetting that one was set up to be created in memory.
If you're getting the beeps and LED flashing, that sounds like a hardware problem—specifically RAM. (Support article)

  • When i wake my iMac there is no wireless mouse or keyboard functionality. I have to reboot the computer to make them work.

If my imac is left sleeping for any length of time there is no wireless mouse or keyboard functionality and the imac keeps returning to sleep. I have to hold the power button to wake the machine as the mouse and keyboard do not work. T o rectify the problem i have to hold the power button until the mac switches off and then re-boot the machine.

Don't sleep the computer and its HDs, just the display. I've been doing that for years, run 24/7, and never have an issue, but then again I only use wired keyboards and mice.

  • Apple Wireless Mouse - No Longer Pairs with Mac Mini?

    Hi there,
I've had an Apple Wireless Keyboard and an Apple Wireless Mouse for several months. Unfortunately, the Apple Wireless Mouse no longer pairs with the Mac Mini (Core Duo, 1.66) -- it is getting very frustrating.
I've tried rebooting the machine, restarting the mouse, and nothing works. Sometimes I get the Bluetooth Setup Assistant which says that it found 1 Mouse, but it failed to pair.
I replaced the batteries, but nothing changes.
    Help!

Normally that's caused by debris under the trackball preventing the rollers from moving.  Turn the mouse upside down and rub the trackball Vigorously with a microfiber cloth.
The symptoms are usually that scroll will work one direction but not the other.

  • Why is my boot camp setup stuck at Apple Wireless Mouse?

Well I finally got Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro and when I try to put Bootcamp on the Windows side it gets stuck at the instalation. It's been on Apple Wireless Mouse for a good bit now. Did I mess up somehow?

The wireless mice you're buying.... are they 2.4GHz wireless ones (the ones that come with their own micro-dongle) or Bluetooth?  If they're the 2.4GHz wireless ones, go buy yourself a good bluetooth one.  Your Mac has bluetooth in it and can connect to one of these mice without the need to use the dongle that comes with them.  I've seen a quite a bit of issues (jerky movement due to low battery too far away or other movement problems) with the non-bluetooth wireless ones.
Also, be aware that if the mice you're using are laser based, the movement will be laggy and jerky if they're not used on the proper surface.  Only the more expensive ones have better laser systems in them that can be used on multiple surfaces, but still not all.

  • Wireless mouse and Keyboard Issue after closing the lid - external display

Can anyone give any insight. Recent purchase of a new Late 2008 15" MBP. I have connected it to an external 24" Apple monitor on my desk and use a wireless mouse and wireless keyboard on my desk top. I have configured the laptop to wake on bluetooth devices. So here is the problem: The laptop when the lid is up recognizes the bluetooth keyboard and mouse. I close the lid/screen. Laptop powers down... the after several seconds I move the mouse and the laptop comes alive... But after that there are no bluetooth devices attached. When I use the mouse, I get "connection lost" with a white figure of the mighty mouse on the screen. The wireless keyboard is not there and I have to open the lid and manually find the mouse and reconnect. The keyboard seems to work however....
    Apple..... any thoughts..... anyone?????

Hi Stentdoc; I'm thinking, 'connection lost ~= sorta low AA batteries in the Mighty Mouse? (I would put in fresh AA batteries in the mouse and keyboard, to eliminate as an issue that the 'connection lost' is due to low batt voltage; that this is causing the failure to wake.) ... then, in System Preferences > Hardware > Energy Saver, settings for Power Adapter > Sleep, set to "never" for "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for ..." to eliminate that as a conflict when trying to wake with bluetooth from sleep induced by closing the lid ...
Check your current "Sleep" setup (I left my MBP as "3")
    go to Utilities > Terminal
After you launch Terminal, the first step is to determine which sleep mode your Mac is currently using. You can both view and change the sleep mode using the Unix program pmset. To see your current settings, type (or, copy and paste)
    pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
    press 'enter'
You should see something like this:
    $ pmset -g | grep hibernatemode
    hibernatemode 3
So your machine is using mode 3 ... thanks to the documentation for the handy Deep Sleep Dashboard widget, which puts your machine immediately into hibernation mode (so you don’t have to yank all the power sources to invoke it):
    * 0 - Old style sleep mode, with RAM powered on while sleeping, safe sleep disabled, and super-fast wake.
    * 1 - Hibernation mode, with RAM contents written to disk, system totally shut down while “sleeping,” and slower wake up, due to reading the contents of RAM off the hard drive.
    * 3 - The default mode on machines introduced since about fall 2005. RAM is powered on while sleeping, but RAM contents are also written to disk before sleeping. In the event of total power loss, the system enters hibernation mode automatically.
also, I enabled this (to change back, input "lidwake 1":
    go to Utilities > Terminal
type in sudo pmset lidwake 0 then "enter"
it will ask for your password. type it in, that's it!
Now, when your computer is sleeping with the lid closed, when you open the lid nothing happens until you press any key ... nice: keeps it off when accidentally opened, like in a backpack?
WARNING: Improper use of the sudo command could lead to data loss
or the deletion of important system files. Please double-check your
typing when using sudo. Type "man sudo" for more information.
To proceed, enter your password, or type Ctrl-C to abort.

  • This is my secound wireless mouse and it is intermittent, what can i do?

I purchased  last April an iMAC,and  in  four months ,the wireless  mouse became intermittent. Apple replaced it for me. Now i am having the same problem.
Whats going on..I have never droped it to the floor,or bang on it hard.

Make sure rotation lock is not turned on.  Depending on how its set up, it is either in Control center, or using the side switch.
If roattion lock is not on, try a reset.
Hold down on the Home and power/sleep buttons at the same time until the Apple Logo shows up. Let the iPad reboot. No data should be lost.

  • Apple bluetooth wireless mouse

My Apple bluetooth wireless mouse loses it's connection when my computer goes to sleep. Before SL I could wake my computer with my mouse. Now I can't because the mouse doesn't have a connection. It seems that sleep turns off bluetooth connectivity.
    I am using 10.6.1

I was having system crashes to, but after allowing "wake from sleep" everything was fine - for a while.
NOW my mouse works in that it moves the cursor around the screen, but it doesn't click. I've given up and gone back to my wired mouse. The wired mouse works just fine - it just has a tether.
I read that there is a new mouse in the works - maybe that will help. For some weird reason, I've noticed over the years that as new product is about to be introduced or is very new, my old product develops hiccups. I have a paranoid suspicion that software is updated to accommodate the new without understanding all the relationships with the old.
Try checking your crash logs and see if there is a consistent thread involved.

  • Logitech Wireless Mouse and MacBook Pro

    Greetings.
I'm thinking about buying a Logitech wireless mouse for my MacBook Pro. The mouse comes with a USB wireless card. Will I need to use this or will the wireless/bluetooth card in the MacBook pick up the mouse by itself?
    Cheers,
    John

I don't understand your problem. Is it that you can't see the arrow or what? You say the button and all work fine so I am stumped by your question. I have problems with my mouse being recognized by the MBP but I just turn off mouse, restart laptop then turn on mouse and it comes back up. If I ever put my MBP to sleep I shut the mouse off first and wait until it says mouse disconnected or whatever it says..I can't recall. Then I put the MBP to sleep. Once I wake it up turn mouse back on and voila..works!! Maybe try pushing the little "Connect" button on the bottom of the mouse that might help. I have never tried that but just a suggestion.
Sorry if this is all confusing.

  • Wireless Mouse - Logitech vs. Apple

I continue to have various problems with my Logitech Wireless Mouse. iMac wakes from sleep without a command, mouse goes dead and/or is not recognized by the computer, jerky scrolling, etc.
I really want a wireless mouse but I can't live with this Logitech Mouse. Is the Apple Wireless Mouse more reliable and/or problem free?
    Charlie

There are problems with both, but try the Apple mouse, as long as you keep it clean and have a non-reflective non-slippery mouse pad, you should be fine with it.

  • Why is my new wireless mouse jerky on my macbook pro?

I've been using a cheap Dynex wireless mouse (as well as a wired mouse when I'm at work) on this MacBook for a while with no problems whatsoever. The Dynex's buttons are starting to malfunciton, so I went to buy a new mouse....
1st try -- I got some cheap Microsoft mouse from Best Buy. The movement was very erratic and jerky. I downloaded and installed the mouse software and adjusted settings there, to no avail.
2nd try -- I bought a slightly more expensive Logitech M510 wireless mouse. It felt slightly different, but the result was essentially the same. The movement is jerky -- erratic. Sometimes, the mouse jumps inches across the screen instead of moving in a slow steady manner like it's supposed to. It appears to worsen when I boot up and play a game on the computer.
Given the fact that the same problem occurred with two different new mice, but not with the old worn-out one, I must assume that  there is some incompatability between MacBook Pros and newer models of wireless mice. I can't seem to find any consistent "known issue" pages on this. Anyone know what I should do now? Any ideas?
