  • Wireless internet card for powerbook 1400

Can anyone recommend a wireless PC card for the Powerbook 1400? (I know...an anchient machine but I want to throw it in the kitchen for looking up recipes and other light futy stuff.) I think it needs to be a PCMCIA card or something like that. Thanks.

    Richard,
You can run an 802.11b 11Mbps PC card on the 1400 with the correct wireless drivers and this is dependent on which version OS you have installed on the 1400. The card you want is the WaveLAN or Orinoco wireless PC card. And if your 1400 were running OS 9.1, you could use Apple's AirPort 1.2 software.
Here is a more extensive guide to your wireless setup:

  • WIRELESS NIC CARD for HP6126UK.

Hi I would like to know what WIRELESS NIC CARD for HP6126UK would be suitable, as i would like to connect to a wireless connection.

    Hi:
The easiest thing to do is to purchase an external usb wireless adapter for your PC.
That way you don't have to be concerned with what will specifically work for your PC.
All external usb adapters should work.
    Something like this:

  • Elementary question: need wireless card for old Dell

Hi, all: I need to buy a wireless card for my several-years-old Dell Precision 340 desktop, so that I can network it with my MacBook Pro and printer using AirPort Express. Can buy any old USB network adapter card branded "universal"? Any recommendations? There is no built-in wireless card. Also, I understand that I will have to reconfigure the AirPort somehow to handle both PC and Mac (I spent a long time on the phone with Support getting to work in the first place, just with the Mac notebook).
    Thanks for any advice!

Hello jonnofor. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Can buy any old USB network adapter card branded "universal"? Any recommendations? There is no built-in wireless card.
Just about any 802.11b/g wireless device will work with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX). The AX is capable of up to WPA2 wireless encryption, so if this is important to you, you would want a device that is WPA or WPA2 capable as well. In addition to USB-style, the Precision 340 can also take PCI-cards. For example, Linksys offers both a USB & PCI types.
Also, I understand that I will have to reconfigure the AirPort somehow to handle both PC and Mac
There shouldn't be any required configuration changes necessary for the AX just to support both Macs and PCs. Most issues that come into play relate to using WEP for wireless encryption. You can eliminate this by using WPA or WPA2 instead.

  • Sound Card for Power Mac G4 Quicksilver

I was having a look around for sound cards for the Power Mac G4 Quicksilver and read about the M-Audio Revolution 5.1 and 7.1. Are these the best sound cards available for the G4 Quicksilver? Are there better ones?

I've started using the iMic by Griffin. It's an USB stereo input/output audio adapter with both mic and line level input/ouput. They provide a free download of their audio editing software called Finyl Vinyl (I think), which lets you record and edit audio mainly (though you can input video with the adapter - need different software though). Though it's intended mainly for recording from turntables, you can input and edit most any audio with a mini plug to RCA jacks cable. I've used a cassette deck and a mini disc recorder so far. I haven't played much with the mic input so far, but the line in audio is very good (I've worked in community radio for a while now, so I have a pretty good ear). The adapter also works with other audio editing software like Audacity and Logic Express (possibly Garageband too, I haven't tried). And it's available for under $30 on places like eBay.

  • Need Wireless lan card for L100-179

Hi guys can any one advise me where to buy a wireless lan card and any advise and installing one please

    Hello
In my opinion the first step is your local dealer where you have bought the unit. This unit is not known to me but I presume unit is WLAN ready and upgrade with mini PCI WLAN card is possible.
Other way to find out which WLAN card is compatible with your unit is to contact service partner in your country.

  • Does Apple make a wireless pci card for the G5?

I have a new Airport Extreme base station, but my PowerMac G5 still has the old airport pci card. Does Apple make an "n" pci card that I can use to swap out my old wireless card?

No. Apple does not have an 802.11n solution for your PowerMac G5.

You'll need to re-establish the connection to your wireless network.

  • Graphics card for old box

    Hello All-
My playback in PE9 is very choppy, with a lot of frames being dropped, especially after effects (green screen). Even after rendering it has a stutter.
I know that I need a computer with more processing power to get the most out of PE9, but my pocketbook doesn't allow me to spring for that right now. I am wondering what power supply/graphics card combo I could get for right around $100-$120 total that would improve my playback somewhat - at least so I can try to do a reasonable editing job for the next several months. I'm pretty sure it has PCIe slots.  Here is my current setup:
    HP Pavillion a1430n
AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
    350 Gig HD
    2 GHz  3 Gig RAM
    Windows XP SP3
    Graphics (integrated): Nvdia Gforce 6150LE
    Power Supply: 300 Watt
    Any opinions or suggestions welcome!
    Owl Boy

    Friends-
To answer the questions you had regarding my current system and recording options:
    SYSTEM:
CPU upgradable? I am pretty sure that it cannot be upgraded. Tough to find this
info on the web. Also, it only has one CPU slot.
RAM: I am maxed out at 4 gig.
Hard Drive: Only one (250 GB SATA 7200 RPM)
    RECORDING:
I am recording using a CANON HF R10 camcorder, which offers the following
    recording options:
    MPEG-4 AVC/H.264
    MODE:
    FXP (17 Mbps) Highest Quality
    XP+ (12 Mbps) High Quality
    SP  ( 7 Mbps) Standard
LP  ( 5 Mbps) Long Play
    FRAME RATE:
    60i  (60 Hz interlaced)
    PF30 (30 Hz progressive)
    PF24 (24 Hz progressive)
    OUTPUT FILE/FORMAT:
    .mts / AVCHD
I am mainly interested in producing music videos for both burning to disc and posting to youtube. So these will be quite short -generally less than 5 minutes after the final edit - and could have quite a bit of movement, cuts and effects. I am new to recording. I am thinking that maybe I should record using either the FXP or XP+ mode and either the 60i or PF30 frame rate.
As far as souping up my computer, by the replies I have gotten, I'm thinking that adding a second HD would be my best bet.
    QUESTIONS:
What size/speed HD would be recommended? Ted has mentioned access time and
    internal buffering.
Is the size of my current power supply (300w) an issue when adding a HD?
Any suggestion regarding my recording mode, frame rate etc.?
    Thanks a million, guys!

  • Compatible graphics cards for old G5s

I have one of the original G5 Dual Core Macs, introduced durring the summer of 2003. Does anyone know what graphics cards are compatible with this machine that are 128mb and above? Preferrably still available somehow...

I also have one of the original Dual G5s from october 2003 and my Radeon 9600 is dying a horrible death and I am utterly disappointed that I cannot find a replacement anywhere. Especially from Apple, of all companies.
ATI's backlog on the 9600 and 9800 are 40+ days and of course the x800 is discontinued totally.
I can't wait possibly 6 weeks for a video card rom anywhere? ROHS ***** but!!!!!!

  • What is the best video card for my G4/733/Quicksilver?

I currently have a great 128mg Radeon dual output card but video/graphics (Dashboard, flash sights, etc.) is pretty sluggish. I'm not gaming but I want things to be smooth graphically... especially to utilize the OpenGL. (Don't know really what this means but from what I have read it's important to have a card that utilizes this.) I don't know much about this but would like some guidence. I'm not wanting to spend that much... under $100.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    SB

    Look at:
    <http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/630ATI96G4/>
Upgrading to OSX Tiger will take advantage of the Core Image support on this board.
Download and install "ATI Displays 4.5.7" and "ATI OS9 RADEON Update" before you install the card. If you are not using the latest OSX, also install the OSX ATI driver update from ATI.

  • Recommended 802.11n cards for PCs w/ AirPort?

For PCs, are there any recommended wireless N cards for the AirPort? I know most of the generic vendors (Linksys, etc.) recommend you use their brand of NICs as well.
As Apple doesn't have PC NICs, what brands are recommended for maximum performance?

Any wireless card should work, providing that it is "n" capable. Of course the vendors want you to buy their stuff.
The letters (b,g,n) all indicate versions of the same wireless protocol.
