Wireless Network Crashing When IPod Connected

Why would my wireless network (TimeCapsule) crash each and every time an iPod is turned on and tries to connect to the wireless network?
I normally have two laptops Cat5'd to the LAN and one iPad connected to the wireless network.
Your comments are appreciated,
John

Hi oNewton,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It's difficult to say why your Time Capsule is exhibiting this behavior, and it is definitely unexpected.
As a starting point for troubleshooting, I recommend resetting the Time Capsule using the steps in this article:

  • Computer crashes when ipod connected

I have a click wheel ipod and also an ipod nano, they have always worked properly but recently everytime I connect them to my computer via usb, they crash my computer. I connected to another computer and restored my ipod nano, then went to connect it to my computer and it still crashed it. I have tried numerous things to try and fix this and now I am stumped as I do not know what else to do. Does anyone have any good suggestions please?

If you iPod works with other PC, then the problem is with your computer.
Have you tried to install the OS on your computer?

  • ITunes crashes when iPod connected

After four years I finally have my first error message of any kind with my Mac.  The other day I plugged in my iPod touch after iTunes was already open and an error message popped up saying iTunes would be forced to close.  I can use iTunes w/out any issue but as soon as I plug in my iPod, it crashes every time.  Anyone have any fixes?

OK I FIXED IT!! my ipod is all set to manual except for the games. Both my games became unplayable the other day for some reason (texas holdem and tetris). i went into my ipod through my computer and went into the ipod_control folder. i deleted the games. now it works fine.

My ipod touch will recognize my home wireless network but when I try to select it the wheel just keeps spinning. It looks as though I have a good signal but my router is an older apple extreme. I've updated to the lasted firmware but it's still not working. I have two older imacs and a wii that connect to the router. Any thoughts? Thanks

    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

  • ITunes crashes when I connect my iPod to the PC when iTunes is running....

I have written about this problem before, but there have not been any successful solutions as of this date. I will explain my situation a little further and maybe someone can help.
Most of the time, when I connect my iPod to my pc while iTunes is running, the instance the iPod shows up on the library site, and whenever I move the cursor, iTunes crashes, so I have to close iTunes right away and try to disconnect my iPod. Most of the time, a message comes up that says info is being transferred to the ipod and that I shouldn't disconnet it at that time, but I usually go ahead because I know it isn't transferring at that time, since itunes has crashed.
Sometimes, after I have clicked on the first message to go ahead and disconnect my ipod, another messages comes up that says something to the effect of, "You can't disconnect because it is being used by another server at this time." So I click "OK" and then iTunes stays on for a few moments which gives me time to transfer a song or two, but then itunes crashes as soon as it finished transferring or before it finishes.
As anyone can imagine, this has really become a hugh problem. Having an iPod and not being able to use iTunes makes it very unhandy. I'm not able to add any new music or any of the playlists which i have been working on. Does anyone have a solution, or any suggestions as to what may be going on? It would be deeply appreciated.
I plan to restore my iPod in a day or two if I don't get a solution to this, but I don't have all of the music, videos, etc. that I have on the iPod since I removed much of it from iTunes to help the computer run faster. I had over 2000 items in the library, so it was pulling the pc down and it was taking forever to use the computer.
I am unable to use any of the software to transfer everything from my iPod to the iTunes library because of the problem with iTunes crashing when I connect the iPod, so this isn't a solution at this time.
    Someone, please help!

I suspect a hardware problem.  But do the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset.  Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Resore the iPid to factoery defaults/new iPod.
In the latter part of you post, I thin you ar sayng that you do not have a syning computer and the music is not on the computer. If so, do the following so you will not lose anthing (or very little) when you restore.
    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Best iPod to PC
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and right click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Backup. This will make a backup so you can restore to the backup

Trying to connect my new Apple TV to the wireless network. When I try to use the remote the Apple Tv doesn't respond ( doesn't go to the next screen). Could this be caused by a weak wireless signal?

It is not properly connected to the network.
Make sure location is set correctly
DNS should be on auto (settings - general - network)
    Try ethernet
Signal strength on device won't account for issues, you would need a network report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar. This will show accurate signal strength along with noise and nearby networks

I had the same problem.  I did the reset networks on my iPhone & it did not work.  My husband read somewhere that changing the channel on the router to manual & selecting the highest available channel number might help.  I did that & it solved the problem.  I have not had the problem since.

  • Skype Desktop crashes when it connects to the Inte...

Recently my Skype has updated to the newest version and since then it has crashed each time it connects to the internet. I have gone through other questions on this site and none that I have found have helped me.
As far as I am aware my Internet Explorer works fine, my drivers are up to date, my windows system is english and I have downloaded all optional and required system files. However, the only thing I have noticed is when I tried to visit https://apps.skype.com/home/ with IE I get the skype loading icon and the page never loads fully (But doesn't crash), not sure if that is relevent.
Skype for windows 8.1 works fine but the desktop version crashes. I have checked that I have allowed the program through my firewall and disabled and re-enabled .NET Framework 3.5 (Includes .Net 2.0 and 3.0) and run skype with it on and with it off and also ran programs to fix problems with the NET framework if it encountered any. Skype is still crashing when it connects to the internet.
I have also run Directx diagnostics tool and will attach the saved file.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any help you can provide

Note: this is not an issue particular to FaceRig, there are quite a few other programs using virtual cams that are affected by the 7.0 upgrade in the same manner. There is however a potential solution.
We have talked with some of our users affected by this issue (this does not affect everyone doing the 7.0 update, just some) and we trust that we have found the solution (at least until we've had time to investigate some more).
Seems the problem  to has to do with the default webcam settings (you just need to go though the Skype initial setup again).. The short version of the fix is:
    1. Go to Steam Client and do a "remove local application data" on FaceRig
    2. Go though the initial setup process on Skype ( now it won't crash) and/or visit the webcam setting menu and make sure everything is working and everything is updated.
    3. Re-install facerig (skip reinstalling the open codecs if you already have them installed)
    Now everything should be working.
I recommend reading the detailed step by step on the FaceRig Steam support forums:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/274920/discussions/ ( look for the Skype 7.0.0.102 pinned thread - i cqannot link directly that thread because there is a limit on the length of URL's here.)
PS: if you are the tinkering type, steps 1 and 3 can be simply substituted by un-registering and then re-registering the direct show filters ( all of them) for the FaceRig Virtual Cam ( .bat files are provided with facerig to do exactly just that) , but most folks do not want to mess with directly registering/unregistering DirectShow filters, so it is simpler to ask for an uninstall and a re-install.
Note that this kind of fix might also work for FFsplit.ax or other affected DirectShow filters too ( as this issue is not particular to FaceRig alone, more programs are affected by this update).

  • Can AirPort Extreme join a wireless network and share the connection to ethernet connected devices?

Can AirPort Extreme join a wireless network and share the connection to ethernet connected devices?

Yes, if the AirPort Extreme is joining a wireless network that has been created by another Apple router. In this case, it will be extending the wireless network and the Ethernet ports are enabled on the "remote" AirPort Extreme.
No, if the AirPort Extreme will be used with another router from another manfacturer.
Ironically, the less expensive AirPort Express can do what you ask about with virtually any wireless network using a special feature called ProxySTA. It won't extend the wireless with a non-Apple router, but the Ethernet port will be enabled.

  • Unable to connect to home wireless network with my iPod touch

I've had my iTouch for several months now and I'm still not able to connect to my wireless network at home. I've tried the resets and other suggestions I've found in the discussion groups but nothing has worked.
I have an older Netgear Router MR814v2 and it is unsecured. It is attached to my old desktop, HP Pavilion running Windows ME, which is not able to run the itunes software. My HP laptop is where my iTouch and iTunes software is installed.
The iTouch displays my network with good signal strength, but when I try to connect I get the "unable to join the network "NETGEAR".
Going to my router, it does not recognize my iTouch as an attached device. Why is that and what am I missing?
Thank you for all suggestions and your help.

I tried powering down the router. When it's off the iTouch does not recognize the network and then when it's powered on again, the iTouch recognizes the network. Unlike the public wi-fi spots that my iTouch responds to, where all the info like IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS etc are populated in the settings...my iTouch does not populate these fields at home even though it recognizes the network. I still get the unable to connect to network error. Could it be that my router is antiquated and can not support the iTouch? Like I said earlier, my Router does not recognize the iTouch as being attached to it.
