Wireless Network Drive setup to consolidate and synchronize iLife libraries

What is the simplest system to set-up and use a Hard Drive to be shared wirelessly between my iMac G4, Power Book and two Dell laptops running Windows XP?
Can i set-up my iPhoto, iTunes and iMovie libraries so that they are on the shared and each of the Macs can access the same libraries and each of the Macs and Dells can access the same iTunes libraries on the shared drive?
Final question. If it is possible to have the iTunes, iPhoto, IMovie libraries on the shared drive, is it possible to have replicas synchornized locally on the laptops?
What I'm trying to achieve is to have one consolidated library for iTunes, iPhoto and iMovie so that regardless of which computer my family uses to download photos from the camera or music from the iTunes music store the photos and music will be available in the libraries when any of the other computers are used and if the laptops are used away from home a replica of the complete libraries will be on the local drive.
Right now we have photos, music and movies spread over 4 machines. Consolidation and synchronization is what I am trying to achieve.

If you find a tool for all of your machines to do this in the background wirelessly, let me know. I'm doing this manually from my Macbook, two Vista machines, and three XP machines. I just copy and paste all of the stuff I want to replicate, and keep everything backed up on the Airport USB drive, which is a 400GB drive. I had a lot of trouble until I changed the drive format to journaled HFS+. Now it all seems to work great. Perhaps rsync could do something like this for you--I believe it runs natively on the Mac, and via Cygwin on PCs.

Your AirPort Express is already providing two separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, but each band is using the same wireless network name.
This is the default setup for the AirPort Express, which is recommended for most users. The theory here is that devices will automatically connect to the best quality signal based on their capabilities and distance in relation to the AirPort Express.
It is possible to assign a different name to the 5 GHz band, and then "point" devices at that network to connect. Some users swear by this option.....(I am not one of them).... but you might want to give it a try to see how it works for you.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Express
Click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next window
Click Wireless Options near the bottom of the next window
Enter a check mark next to 5 GHz Name.....which will automatically add "5 GHz" to the network name....so you can identify it
Click Save, then click Update and wait a full minute for the Express to restart
Now you will need to "point" your 5 GHz capable devices at the 5 GHz network name. 2.4 GHz devices will connect to your "other" network name.

Network drive library location failure and Syncing problems

I transferred my iTunes library to a wireless network drive. If iTunes opens without an established wireless network connection, it returns to the default library location. I can easily change it back to the network drive, but want to avoid restoring the default location. How can I do this?
A related problem is with syncing my iPod with the new network drive iTunes library location. In short, it won't sync with the new location and asks me to Restore the iPod continuously. The only way to get the iPod to sync is when the library goes back to the default iTunes location (which I don't want because I don't have music there anymore).

That's how it works. There is no way to stop itunes from doing it. If you ever find you've opened itunes without that drive available, immediately close itunes. Use a shift-start to re-open it using the networked ITL file.
Have you tried assigning a different drive letter to the ipod? Maybe it's competing with the networked drive letter. Just go into windows device manager to change the ipod's drive letter.

How can I expand my wireless network with a Time Capsule and Airport Express?

My entire house is wired for ethernet access (2 floors). I have a Time Capsule on the 2nd floor that reaches the entire house except for one room.
In this one room I have an ethernet port plugged into an Airport Express.
The problem I encounter is that I have two separate wifi networks with two separate names. I realize I can extend the wireless network on the 2nd floor to the 1st floor but I can only do this wirelessly to my knowledge, and the entire problem is that the signal doesn't reach the front room. Also, there is really no place in-between that the AE can be placed to extend the reach. The building is concrete and steel, I think that has a lot to do with the problem.
My question is: Can I have two wireless routers (connected to the same home network via ethernet) broadcast the same wifi network? I also have a SONOS system that further complicates things, I'm afraid. Would it help if I drew some sort of diagram?

Your network is not working as you describe.. or I have misunderstood the layout..
What is the broadband type? Modem is where? What is the main router?
From your screen shots the main router is the airport express that covers one room which seems wrong.
Why isn't the TC the main router? or both bridged.. if you go back and look at the apple document.. one or both apple routers are in bridge mode..
You are having issues with setup .. half of which is caused by v6 airport utility.
What OS are you running? Please install 5.6 utility.. do it.. do it now!!

Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
2. Download and install unpkg.

Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

Wireless Network Driver Trouble

The harddrive in my HP Touchsmart tm2-2150us failed recently, and I just replaced it and did a clean installation of windows 7 - 64bit. I went to here and installed drivers, and everything seemed to work except the network driver. I can connect to the internet through ethernet, but the wireless does not work. Under "show network adapters," no wifi ethernet adapter is shown, just the ethernet. I tried installing each of the wireless drivers listed (I'm not sure why there are so many), and rebooted between each, but none of them worked.
I'm out of ideas of things to try, does anyone have any ideas?

The latest Vista BCM driver on your notebook's support and driver page is from 2007.

Every three secs. a pop-up window prompts me to Select a Wireless Network. I hit cancel and it does it again.

That's not very intuitive
Check your mail server setup (mail>preferences>accounts>) choose your MobileMe account and select Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) dropdown box, select Edit SMTP server list, verify that each instance of the me server has a password, if there are more than one and you only have one account then delete the one without a password.

Extend wireless network with multiple airport express and netgear powerline

I currently have the following network configuration:
1. Using ATT u-verse (2-wire 3800HGV-B "modem") to internet
2. Disabled the u-verse modem wireless router, and have connected an Apple Time Capsule wireless router (on a DMZ)
3. Have four Netgear XAVB5001 powerline adapters connected to the time capsule (for our iMac desktops and the Apple TV)
4. Have an Airport Express wirelessly connected to the time capsule to extend range (for our iPhones and iPad)
All this is currently working. What I would like to do is the following, keeping 1-3 above the same:
4. Connect the airport express to the time capsule via Netgear XAVB5101 powerline adapter (instead of wirelessly connecting to the time capsule as it is today) and use it to extend the wireless range of the time capsule
5. Add ANOTHER airport express to the time capsule via powerline adapter (and extend the wireless range elsewhere in the house).
Does anyone have any experience with this kind of setup and can assure that it would work? (I'm trying to decide whether to spring for a couple more powerline adapters and another airport express)

I had a VERY similar problem: I was trying to extend my wireless network using a hardwired ethernet connection from Airport Extreme to my Time Capsule. Every time I plugged in the wire to the TC, everything disappeared. Unplugged, and boom. Came back.
Here's how I solved it:
Go into Airport Utility and select the unit you are trying to use as a wireless extender and choose to edit it. Then, on the wireless tab select CREATE a wireless network. But, give it the exact same name and password. This is completely counter-intuitive. You would think to choose EXTEND, but this would be wrong. Next choose the network tab. And, select Router mode to Bridge (off).
By choosing the same name and password, your phone, laptop, etc. will think it's on the same network and move seamlessly from one to the other.
See if this fixes your issue. Fixed mine instantly. AND, it only took 3 painstaking hours of checking ethernet connections and rewiring jacks, etc. to figure it out. LOL

I've just bought a macbook pro. With my old pc laptop, I connected to the internet via a belkin wireless g mimo router/modem. Connected to this router via a ethernet cable was a lacie 250gb drive which I could access via a wireless network connection. Now my macbook sees the modem.router and I can connect to the internet, but I cannot see the external drive. All my network setu assistant seems to do is give me options on what wireless modem to use for a internet connection. The lacie drive is pc nfts formatted. Any easy step by step advice?!

OS X says D-Link DSM g-600 network drive needs a username and password.

Can connect my macbook to my wireless network, surf the net and detect network printer and shared files on my XP Home Desktop. The LAN portion consistists of a network printer, Linksys router, XPHome desktop and 500 GB external storage device. The storage device is a D-Link dsm g-600. The files therein were put there by the desktop and a now-defunct XP Home laptop over the course of 2 years. The laptop never had any trouble detecting, connecting to and reading files on the DSM-G600.
The Macbook detects it under "Finder", but fails to connect. Trying to connect elicits and demand for username and password. Connecting to the DSM from the XP computers never required a password and conecting to the device as an admin just requires the username "admin" and no password. D-Link says its an OSX problem and Apple says its a D-Link firmware problem. Before buying a ticket to India to find the phone techs that told me this, I'm wondering if anyone else had any thoughts.

Well all, I've done this at least 20 times today and the deployment share info is still wrong...
Someone else built and messed with this thing so i'm trying to fix it. We have 2 MDT servers and 1 WDS that is on the Production MDT. I've turned the test MDT off.
It was working fine, until I updated the deployment share ... after adding some drivers for the surface pro 3 for the pxe boot

Wireless network issues w Airport Express and Belkins Powerline HD

Hi,
I have a new Airport Extreme and the wireless network generally works great with my iPad and Sony Vaio, but there are wireless deadspots in my house when using my MacBook, and the wifi signal will die out often for it in those spots. I'm guessing it's because my MacBook is old with only a a/b/g wireless capabilities. I tried extending my network using Airport Express in the deadspots, but it did nothing to strengthen the signal (i.e., since it ended up extending the weak signal).
So, I bought a Belkin's Powerline HD (gigabit), connected one Powerline receiver to the Airport Extreme using ethernet and plugged it into the wall outlet. I plugged in the other Powerline receiver into the wall outlet in the separate room with the deadspot, and I connected my the Airport Express to it directly using ethernet and am having no luck getting the Airport Express create/extend my current wifi network (i tried creating a new network too, but no luck). I know the Powerline does work because when I connect my MacBook to it using ethernet (i.e, not using Airport Express), I have no problems connecting to the internet. But I would really like to create/extend a wireless network in the deadspots of the house for my MacBook so I don't have to use the ethernet cable.
In the Airport Utilities, I set up the Airport Express to connect to Airport Extreme using ethernet and extend the current wireless network (also tried creating a new network). I got as far as getting a successful set-up confirmation and a green light on the Express base unit and can get full bars on the MacBook. But when I try to connect to the internet, I get an error message saying that there is no internet connection. (Same error when I created a new wireless network.) The diagnostic says there is no ISP signal/connection, which leads me to believe that the Express is not connecting to the internet through Airport Extreme. What am I missing? Thanks in advance!

HI, I don't know very much about Airport Express or indeed Apple products in general. However, I do use Belkin 200mbps powerline adapters.
I have used these adapters in two separate ways. 1) device to router; 2) additional wireless access point to router
In the first situation they work perfectly fine and the connection is fast and reliable for anything I care to throw at it (file transfers, audio / video streaming, internet browsing). However, in the second situation the connection drops intermittently. I will have access to the main router via the access point over powerline for all devices, then suddenly this will just stop. To restart it I have to remove the powerline from the mains, wait about ten seconds, plug back in, let it boot up and reconnect and I'm connected again.
Having read more (sorry I don't have the links to hand), it appears that powerline adapters can handle one-to-one traffic fine, but when bridging a wireless access point where several wireless clients are transmitting / receiving, they 'lock up' and just stop. Even when connected in this configuration, streams tend to stutter and my squeezebox devices get totally out of synch.
Given I know very little about Airport Express (i conceded as much at the top of this post), is it fair to assume that a belkin powerline connected to the 'Express' would closer match with scenario 2 in my above description? If so, I'm afraid I don't believe Belkin Powerline will be a suitable solution for you. Hope my experience saves you the days of head-scratching I went through before removing powerline devices (incidentally, I bought a wireless repeater to solve my problem in the end, and put the powerline adapters to good use by connecting my media player (under the TV) to the main router directly).

Optimal Hard Drive Setup for 3D and CS6 Motion Graphics?

Hello, I'm trying to figure out the best way to separate the following into different hard drives for best performance...
- OS (probably Windows 7 or 8 64bit)
- OS page swap disk
- Programs (Cinema4D and Adobe CS6)
- Adobe Media/Disk Cache
- Project files
- Source/Import Data Files
- Render/Output Data Files
So far, I'm thinking of...
- One Internal SATA3 SSD for OS, OS swap, Programs, Adobe Media Cache
- One Internal SATA2 HDD for Project and Source/Import Data Files
- One External USB3 HDD for Render/Output Files
I'm wondering if separating the files in a different way would be more optimal, and/or if adding more SDD hard drives for the Page Swap file and Media Disk Cache would we worth the money. Particularly, should the OS, OS swap file, Programs, and Media Cache be separated into different drives?

1. Why separate Project and Media(I'm assuming you mean footage/photoshop/ect.) files? Aren't project files very small?
Premiere Pro and After Effects project files aren't that large, but on this drive I also include any audio and stills used in the project, as well as the Encore project. Essentially anything you would need to rebuild the project down the line would go here, except the media. That goes on it's own dedicated drive.
Depending on the complexity, a project folder can easily get into multi-gigabyte range.
2. If I have one SATA3 SSD with OS(plus page file) and programs on it, would it be better to put the Cache/Scratch/Previews there as well, vs. on a separate slower SATA2 HDD disk?
I'd go separate. Don't put anything on the System drive but the OS and Windows.

Connecting printer to a secure wireless network which requires both username and password

I have the hp photosmart 6510. I have it in my college dorm, which has a secure network with requires both a user name and password. I need help setting it up as I can't seem to get the printer to enter a username and password. I know the printer works and I know that my computer can print wirelessly with the printer. My college game me this setup configuration.
