Wireless network drops every 5 mins

hi there,
We have a cisco 2500 wlc and (software version 7.0.220.0) and 4 access points (AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9).
The wireless network is virtually unusable as people keep getting kicked out every 5 mins.
I've attached the trap logs. Hopefully someone more knowledgable than I can take a look? One entry I've noticed is....
Warning: Our AP with Base Radio MAC 00:3a:XX:7c:22:f0 is under attack (contained) by another AP on radio type 802.11b/g
Can anyone offer some advise on this?
Thanks in advance.

means your user have to relogin or what after 5 minutes.
Check your user idle time out and make it to 86400.(controller > General)
also check your seassion timeout, make it to 65535 (wlan > edit then go to advanced)
Then try agagin.
Hope it helps.

    I'm not sure if you understand that 5 GHz has some upsides, but also some very significant downsides.
    The upside is that the 5 GHz signal will allow faster speeds.
    The downside is that you must always give up something in order to gain something else.Unfortunately, the marketing hype about 5 GHz does not go into very many details about this.
    In the case of 5 GHz, the 5 GHz signals are much weaker than 2.4 GHz signals, so they do not travel as far or penetrate any obstructions like walls or ceilings nearly as well as 2.4 GHz signals. In many cases, in order to get good 5 Ghz performance, you literally have to have almost a line-of-sight relationship between your computer and the wireless router.
    If you have a new dual band router, which broadcasts both a 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz signal simutaneously, your Mac will connect to the best signal quality automatically depending on its location in relation to the router. In the same room, without any obstructions, it will connec to 5 GHz. But, take the laptop down the hall a few rooms and around the corner and the Mac will connect to the 2.4 GHz signal because at that location, the 2.4 GHz signal is not only stronger, it is also faster.

  • Network connection drops every 15 mins

    Hi all,
    i'm loosing network access on my iMac. This has started tonight, I had never had any problem before. My iMac is connected through Ethernet interface to a switch, then access to a router and finally to the modem cable. I have several other computers on this home network, all of them working properly and accessing to Internet without any problem.
    Only the iMac is behaving strangely, and only since a few hours.
    When the problem occurs, everything seems normal : LEDs are on on the switch, ifconfig -a gives a normal report (interface up, IP address ok within network range (no APIPA), netstat -rn OK), and i have no entry in system. log or whatsoever. But I can't nervertheless access to any Internet site, nor can I even ping my defaut router.
    I began to "solve" the problem by rebooting the mac, then found that, when the problem occurs, I can solve it by going to Network preferences, advanced options, TCP/IP tab and press the "renew DHCP lease". Then everything works fine for 15 minutes, and I have to renew this operation.
    The strange thing is that I used the iMac this morning and it was working fine. When I switched it on again tonight, the problem appeared .... Nothing changed, execpt one thing (but I can't find any connection) : the World of Warcraft laucher has been updated this morning !  But I can not imagine that this might generate trouble on the TCP/IP stack of Mac OS X !!!!
    When the network connection is lost, all traffic is stopped, not only HTTP. If I'm for example playing WoW, I loose the connection to the game servers. Renewing the DHCP lease fixes the problem if done quickly enough.
    I know I never had this problem before, as I'm connected to WoW almost every day and could so far play without any problem for (sometimes) hours.
    I've seen some posts describing more or less the same behavior, but no answers so far. Surprisingly, many of them reports problems occuring every 15 mins.
    Any idea ?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    I've found a workaround : I've switched my TCP/IP config to static IP address and everything is working fine so far.
    Hope this helps.

  • Wireless Signal Drops Every Few Minutes; Impossible to Load/Use Chat Client

    Hi,
    I have an iBook G4 laptop with an Airport Card installed under the keyboard (I guess it's Express? Not sure). At home, my roomates have a Windoze PC desktop using Verizon DSL connected with a Westell Modem and a Linksys Router for wireless access. This connection seems stable and is always on, as their AIM client is always running and shows no connection disruption. She also has an IBM laptop, which connects wirelessly through a Linksys card, and while I'm not sure whether she has any connection disruption or not, I don't think so or else I probably would have been asked to take a look at it by now Although, it isn't "always on" like the desktop, so I'm not sure.
    I am accessing her DSL connection wirelessly, as I've mentioned, through my iBook. When I am browsing the Web however, I sometimes try to link to a page just when the connection is resetting, so I receive the "page cannot be displayed because you are not connected to the internet" warning. If I immediately refresh the page, it usually loads right away. Sometimes I have to reload 2-3 times, but it always works without having to tweak any configurations in Network at all.
    This is a little aggravating, but liveable. Except for the fact that I am unable to run a chat client at all, since the signal drops intermittently and the client has to constantly resign on, and holding a chat conversation with constant disconnects would be impossible.
    If I had to guess, I'd say the connection resets itself at least every 15 mins or so, maybe more.
    I'm wondering if anyone else has any problem of this sort? Do I need to tweak some sort of settings? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

    I am having a similar problem. I am using a Powerbook G4, with three airport expresses (one per floor on the house). Often, I get a messages saying that I am not connected to the internet and sometimes if I wait it will reconnect and sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, I check the settings on the Airport Express (AE). It seems that the password to get me on the network had duplicated itself so it's now 26 characters long instead of 13. I have two other computers on the network, a PC on Windows XP and a new iMac (when I say new, I mean two weeks old, already out of date PowerPC). ANYWAY, they work fine. I am thinking that they other computers are using signal from the two remaining AEs that are working closest to the base/internet connection.
    I put a call into Apple three times and we basically just keep throwing out my system configuration files in my user, and then starting from scratch. So far that has not helped the problem.
    I think the most important thing to note is that I have upgraded all three of my AEs to v6.3 and this is when the trouble started.
    Has anyone any solutions?
    Also, what happened to the spell check feature that used to be here for posting messages?

  • Wireless connection drops every day -- iTunes 8.02 the problem??

    Hello! Our iMac is connected to the internet via Airport, and we have rarely had problems with the connection. For the last two weeks, when I get on the iMac for the first time that day, I have to reconnect to the wireless network through the Airport Setup Assistant every single time. I've tried resetting our cable modem and Airport -- no effect on the problem. I've tried going into sleep mode without logging off to see if that might help -- nope. I've tried repairing permissions in the off-chance that that might help -- no again.
    In something that seems more than just a coincidence, we updated our iTunes to 8.02 about two weeks ago, and that's when this problem began happening. I am especially suspicious that there's a link because we did not update iTunes on our Macbook and it has no problem whatsoever staying connected to the exact same wireless network.
    Two questions, then:
    -- Is the iTunes 8.02 update the problem?
    -- If so, how do I go back to iTunes 7.7?
    Thanks!

    Hi, I'm new to iTunes and apple, but this is happening to me too! I've got iTunes 8 and whenever I run it, my wireless connection drops (disables itself) and cannot be restarted without rebooting the machine. Did you manage to find an answer?

  • BIZARRE - Wireless Network Dies Every Day at 4:30pm (???)

    This is an incredibly bizarre problem. I've been having problems with my wireless network for about a month or so. What will happen is that when using my Intel iMac, the network signal will increase, decrease etc in the status bar for about a half hour, then eventually the whole network becomes unavailable. The Airport Express light is solid green, but neither my iMac nor my iBook can detect it. I usually work on it in the morning hours with no problem, but almost always this happens around 4:30 pm in the afternoon when I do my afternoon work at home. When it crashes and i type in the name of my network, it just says "error joining the network." The only fix is to unplug the Express and reset it. Doing this every day is getting incredibly annoying. Most times, but not always, I put the iMac to sleep during the day and wake it up between 3:30 and 4:00.
    The network will do this other times as well, but almost like clockwork its drops around that time just about every day now. The only thing I ever got that resembled an error message is that once, while using Airtunes, it told me the network stalled.
    At first I thought this was the Airport Express hardware. So when it crashed I took it to the Genius Bar and Apple replaced it for me. However,m the new unit exhibited the same problem right away. So it can't be the Express.
    Then I thought it was something to do with 10.4.8 because thats when this all started, approximately. So I reverted back to 10.4.7 on both computers...still the same result.
    I am stumped and have no clue what is causing this. I've tried changing many of the wireless options in the AP Admin utility but nothing seems to work. I dont know much about manually configuring this stuff (and I dont know much about using terminal commands etc.) so maybe there is something obvious to you 'smarter' people that I simply dont notice.
    So it either has to be something to do with a problem being caused from my iMac or my modem. I have no issues using the iBook g4 I use a Motorola Surfboard (SB-5120, on lease from the cable company) which is run directly via ethernet cable to Airport Express. Another coinidence is that I noticed this also happened around the time when Time Warner Cable took over for Adelphia in our area. For the first six months I owned the AX, I never had one problem or had to do any resets.
    If anyone has any info on this...PLEASE...any help would be appreciated.

  • How can I set up a wireless network between two Mac Mini's (media centres)?

    I've just received my second mac mini (core duo, 1.83, 1 Gb ram)and want to set up a wireless network to link this with my original mac mini (PPC 1.42, 512MB) and my Belkin wireless router (g std).
    I'm using both as media centres in different rooms and want to keep all my media (films, photo's, music etc.) on one mini (connected to a 640GB external drive) and access it over the wireless network. Sort of a more felxible Apple TV setup??
    I've got the wireless network working no problems with both mini's connected to the internet over the network but I'm stuck at how I get the two mini's to see each other. I've tried "the Missing Manual" and these forums but no success so far.
    I know it can be done but would really appreciate any suggestions/directions on what to do?
    Thanks in advance<<br>

  • FRUSTRATING!! 4 month 27" iMac. WIFI drops every few mins.

    I have a 4 month 27" Intel iMac. The WiFi connection drop every few minutes.
    I called up phone support and they told me to move the router away from magnetic fields so now I have 'stuck' it to the ceiling of my apartment away from the Cordless Phone, TV etc....
    Power Cycled the Modem
    Updated the Mac Software
    Called up the cable company to check for Firmware updates
    Updated firmware on the wifi router
    I then too the iMac physically to GENIUS - they kept it for a day and ran checks but did not find any issue with the system
    Renewed the DHCP Lease as advised by someone on this forum
    All possible approaches
    Point is - this does not solve my problem. I have to click disconnect and re-connect WiFi every few minutes. It 'drops' while drafting a mail and then you have to reconnect to SEND the mail OR when streaming a movie 'LOADING' every few minutes and you have to re-connect.
    What is the point of a high end computer when it cannot hold on to a wifi which my $500 Dell holds seamlessly and so does my iPhone and Wii.
    Anyone have a concrete solution?

    Hi
    I may have a fix for you.  It requires you to change your WiFI security from WPA/WPA2 to the (lower) security but effectively still pretty secure WEP.  You can use the 128bit security.  Some routers seem to have a problem with the passwords of WPA - I don't know the technical stuff but its happened to me not just on a mac network but on a Windows XP network aswell.  I offer this to you because it worked for me, and is still working.
    The thing to do is to log onto your router and change its security from WPA to WEP.  To do this open your browser of choice and type in the ip address of your router.  eg. 192.168.1.2  The side of your router should have this address displayed.  If you have changed your router's ip address for some reason you need to use that address, obviously.
    Navigate to your security page on your router.  You may have to type in an Administrator password for the router.  (this prevents anyone with a bit of knowledge randomly, or maliciously changing your settings and locking you out).
    Select WEP security, and select 128bit if you have the option.  This will give you a passkey of 26" bits" long.
    Type in your new security password.  Write it down EXACTLY as you type it.  Remember, for WEP you can only use Hexadecimal - so numbers 0 to 9 and letters a to f in any combination.  JUST make a note of it exactly, as if you don't, getting back on your router via wifi will be impossible.
    Next on your iMac, or whatever, delete your wifi network connections.  You could also delete your wifi connection in Network Preferences,  and start again.  To make things absoutley sure you can edit your keychain and delete the keychainentry for your old WPA wifi network name aswell.
    Now, in Network Preferences under Network Name type the SSID of your wifi network exactly as it is on the router.  The iMac will find the network and offer you a box to enter your WEP password.  Type it in exactly as you remebered/wrote it down.  You should now be connected to your Network using WEP security.
    You shouldn't have any more problems with dropping wifi connections after sleeping your iMac and in most real world situations you will still be spretty secure.
    I offer this fix "as is" - if you don't feel competent to make the changes then don't - just ask someone who does know!

  • Wireless network drops out on one MBP, not the other

    I have two Macbook Pros as part of a wireless network (Extreme/Express 802.11g). Lately the older of the MBPs (2.16 Core Duo) keeps losing the connection and won't recognize the network. If I restart the Airport Extreme and my modem and the MBP it will sometimes come back. Meanwhile my brand new MBP never loses the connection.
    Anybody have any suggestions on where I can start looking or what I can start adjusting to eliminate this problem? Please don't hesitate to let me know if there's other info I can provide to help solve this.
    Thanks in advance.

    If you place the two MBPs side by side for a few hours, does the older device still lose the wireless signal while newer one remains connected?
    If yes, then you may have a wireless card that is starting to act up or the internal antenna connector may be making intermittent contact. A repair shop will need to check things out.
    If no, then you're likely picking up some form of wireless interference in the area where the older MBP is normally located. The usual culprits are a cordless phone (sometimes at the neighbors) and nearby wireless networks. Post back for a few suggestions on this.

  • Bell TV receptor signal drop every 4 min caused by TimeCapsule

    I just got my Fibe 50 installed here in Quebec, Canada, and every 4 minutes there is a signal drop. I had 2 technicians coming home and finally we discovered that there is a DHCP conflit between both of them. When I turn off the TimeCapsule and uses only bell router, the problem disappears. Does anybody had the same problem or know if there is any configuration to solve the problem? In the TimeCapsule settings I have already changed to allow 5Hz bandwidth but did not work. Thanks a lot.

    If you are supplied a router then the TC has to be in bridge mode.. that is router bridge..
    Open the airport utility and make sure in the dhcp and NAT section you have it set to bridge.
    Then you can set fixed channels to the wireless that are different to the bell router.. or turn off wireless altogether.. you can still access the TC via the bell router.

  • Wireless network drops

    Hey all,
    I bought a MacBook exactly a week ago, so for I love it. during my decision process I was leaning towards the MacBook Pro but I could not justify the $2,000+ price tag. But I am happy with my decision in favor of portability ()as a college student).
    Now to my problem, when I boot into OS X my preferred network connection is lost. The AirPort card sees my preferred network but when I go to input my WEP key I receive an invalid password message. Other times when I boot into OS X I receive no message that my preferred network is unavailable. Is this a known issue in the firmware?

    Hello, Artotture
    and welcome to the Forum here. I'm convinced you won't be deceived by your Macbook, its a very good little machine!
    Connection with WLans can be tricky, but once you solved it it keeps working!
    It is not clear to me from your post, what kind of network you are talking about. Is it your private one at home, based on an extreme" or similar? or is it a WLan in your school? The approach would be different in the 2 cases.
    If it is your own home network, you should give more details about the base station. In case of an "Apple airport express" it helped (was needed) in my case that i reconfigure the network base station, and that i use a new name.
    In case of the network at school, you should make sure that you have the correct "security" settings. When choosing a network which you want to join, there is a "security" pull-down menu, with about 8 different security protocols. You must - of course - click the right one for the WLAN which you want to join.
    Hope this helps

  • TS1398 i can access my wireless network on every other device EXCEPT my new iPad - any thoughts on why?

  • Wireless connection drops after time. Please assist.

    Hi
    My problem is that my wireless connection drops every 5-15 minutes.
    I don't know all the relevant info to give.  If there's something I can post that will help let me know and I'll reply.
    I've used netcfg to configure my network.  I have a Canyon CN-WF511 wireless card.
    I load the following 3 modules in my rc.conf;  rt2500pci rt2x00lib rt2x00pci.  I think those are the only ones pertaining to my network card.
    When it drops I just netcfg -a then netcfg default (profile name) and it works for another few minutes.
    Below is my network profile.
    CONNECTION="wireless"
    INTERFACE=wlan0
    #IP="dhcp"
    #DHCP_TIMEOUT=20
    IP="static"
    IFOPTS="192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255"
    GATEWAY=192.168.0.1
    #DOMAIN=localdomain
    #DNS1=192.168.0.1
    ESSID=default
    SECURITY=none
    SCAN="YES"
    TIMEOUT=15

    The easiest solution might be to setup NetCfg somehow with your wifi card and access point.  Have you tried that?  Can you find your card's chipset on the wiki?(chances are that your particular chipset will need a firmware put into /lib/firmware.  Again that's found on the wiki on the NetCfg or Wifi page, I forget which sorry.)  Those are two places where I'd look for good information.
    By the way, your rc.conf is way out of date.  You should look at updating it by using the recent rc.conf.pacnew file that you'll find in the /etc directory.
