Wireless Network issue while using Apple Hardware Test remotely

I want to use Apple Hardware Test remotely through the disc on my MacBook Pro to check on a MacBook Air (old model). The problem is that when I start up the Air with the option key checked it does not recognise my wireless network and if I input it manually in the drop down list it will not connect. Other networks from neighbours are strangely enough visible. When I startup through the HD it instantly finds my Apple Airport network. What could be the issue?
Thanks

Hi,
Hmm.... I'm not sure I get what you mean or not but hardware test is a "in house" application for MBA and you don't need the installation disk to run the application. Unlike MBPro, you need the disk to run hardware test.

  • Using Apple Hardware Test?

    Hi, I need some assistance.
I've got a MacBook Pro from 2011. That have some hardware, I'm sure. Please see this post. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6029708
So I'm trying to use Apple Hardware Test. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509?viewlocale=en_US
But I can't make it work. And I've read the instruction for using the Apple Diagnostics test as well. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5781?viewlocale=en_US
And it seems to me to be exact same approach.
Using Apple Hardware Test on computers with OS X 10.7 or later
    1. Press the power button to turn on your computer.
    2. Press and hold the D key before the gray startup screen appears.
    3. It takes a minute or so for AHT to start up and inspect your hardware configuration. While this is taking place, an icon appears on the screen...
    To start Apple Diagnostics:
Turn off your computer if it is on by choosing Shut Down from the Apple () menu.
Press the power button to turn on your computer.
Immediately press and hold the D key until Apple Diagnostics begins.
If you previously selected a language for” the computer, a "Checking your Mac" screen will appear in that language.
Can anyone instruct help me? I've tried using 25 times enabling the AHT. But the little icon never shows. I just get the regular login screen after some time.
    MacBook Pro early 2011.
    OS X 10.9.2

    Sweet, OGELTHORPE
That worked! Apple own instructions are really not impressive. Haha. ****.

  • How do I use Apple Hardware Test on a Mid 2010 macbook pro?

This MacBook is now running Mavericks 10.9.1
This makes it so I can't update the firmware to use Apple Hardware Test within OS X internet recovery as discussed in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4904
Holding down "D" at boot does nothing
Holding down Option + D gives me Apple Hardware Test that can't be run because the firmware isn't updated and can't be updated because the update can only be applied to systems running Mac OS X 10.7.2

You need the origional grey disk 2 that came with the mac when new.  It contains the AHT and applications.  You can call Apple and order the disks.

  • 2008 iMac running beautifully untill recently. Screen glitches and freezing. Apple Hardware test showed error code  4MOT/2/40000004:ADD and I have not seen others with this code. Guessing it is a fan issue based on the ODD and HDD error codes

computer felt hot and while running apple hardware test the screen glitches covered the screen and it froze. Now computer wont boot up. Again AHT code is 4MOT/2/40000004:ADD and I have just seen ODD and HDD codes discussed on other threads. Those were hardrive or superdrive fans, so I am guessing this is a fan issue and then it fried by graphics card. Any help as to whether this is game over or worth repairing would be very appreciated.

You need to take it to your local Apple Store or AASP for a professional evaluation. Apple does not publish the codes from AHT, you can Google the code you got and see if you can determine what it means however the best method is to let a pro handle it.

  • Hard drive issues; how to run hardware test

A couple of weeks ago my hard drive experienced what I would call "minor crashes". The computer booted up to the grey box with the question mark, and would do nothing more. The hard drive also made unpleasant noises. I think I got it back by resetting PRAM, but it happened a second time, and then a PRAM reset again got it back. Needless to say, I'm nervous about this drive.
I have Apple Care until January '09 (this is an '06 Intel machine) and figure I should try to move on figuring out what's up ASAP (both because I don't want a drive failure, and because I only have a few more months of Care).
I'm guessing that I should run the extended hardware test, but I can't seem to get it going using the Leopard disk I used to upgrade the OS. Do I need the original install disks (which I can't find, of course!)? What else can I do to determine if I have an issue that calls for hard drive replacement? If I need a new hard drive (it now seems small at 250gb anyhow), will I be able to do it myself (assuming Apple Care won't take care of it)?
    Any insights welcome. Thanks!

Give it a try, if not you'll need to dig up your Disk 1!
+Some Intel-based Macs ship with Apple Hardware Test and Mac OS X 10.4.x preinstalled on the hard drive. If an Erase and Install installation of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is performed using a retail Leopard installation disc, Apple Hardware Test will be erased and not reinstalled on these Macs.+
+If you're in this situation and need to use Apple Hardware Test, simply start from the DVD that came with your computer (not the Leopard installation disc) while holding the "D" key. Apple Hardware Test will run from the DVD.+

  • Apple Hardware Test

I just upgraded the ram in my new 2011 iMac and I want to run Apple Hardware Test. Since Apple no longer supplied a DVD with this bootable app I was wondering how I can launch the App. I tried apple's online doc and held the "d" key down to try to boot it from the internet but eventually the OS just launches instead. I then read that you are suppose to pess Command + D, same thing its a gray screen for a while but then eventually launches OSX. I even tried a bootable DVD of Snow Lepard and its not compatable. Please help. Id like to be able to run the hardware test.

    Hello
Instructions tu use AHT from help menu
try use an ethernet cable , turn off airport ,restart your computer while holding down both the Option and “D” keys
    Use Apple Hardware Test
Open the Help Viewer’s Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear) and choose Print to print these instructions.
Disconnect all external devices except the keyboard, mouse, display, and speakers. If you have an Ethernet cable or external DVD drive, disconnect them.
Restart your computer, holding down the “D” key while the computer restarts. After your computer restarts, you should see the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen. If you don’t, Apple Hardware Test may not be available on your computer. You may be able to start Apple Hardware Test from the Internet. Reconnect your computer to the network, and then restart your computer while holding down both the Option and “D” keys.
When the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen appears, select the language you want to use, and then press the Return key or click the right arrow button.
When the Apple Hardware Test main screen appears (after about 45 seconds), follow the onscreen instructions.

  • -3403D error when attempting Apple Hardware Test

    Hi everyone,
I want to perform an Apple Hardware Test. I restarted, pressed option+D, and a globe appeared. After a minute, however, the following text appeared:
    Apple.com/support
    -3403D

Your Macbook Pro came with OS X 10.6.x and to run Apple Hardware Test you can use bundled with your Macbook Pro Application Disc:
Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support
Your Macbook Pro probably was upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery as some of the Mac which came with 10.6.x did have that option. It seems like, some of the models might have problem to access Internet AHT:
Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery - Apple Support
About the "Apple Hardware Test does not support this machine" message - Apple Support
Not sure what error -340D means but if you haven't tried yet, i would suggest to turn OFF your router and after 2-3 mins turn ON again. Try with different network as very often issues with starting Mac in Internet Recovery are caused by network settings. This could be the same issue...

  • How do I run Apple Hardware Test on a 2012 MacBook Air with 10.8.4?

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to run Apple Hardware Test on a mid-2012 MacBook Air with 10.8.4 installed. Whenever I restart and hold the letter D my computer goes into internet recovery mode and asks me to connect to Wifi... Please help, thanks!

Using Apple Hardware Test on computers with OS X 10.7 or later
Mac NoteBook and Desktop computers shipping with OS X 10.7 or later have a partition on the hard drive or flash storage that contains AHT. To start AHT on these computers please follow these instructions:
Press the power button to turn on your computer.
Press and hold the D key before the gray startup screen appears.
It takes a minute or so for AHT to start up and inspect your hardware configuration. While this is taking place, an icon appears on the screen:
When the process is complete, select your language and click the right arrow. If you aren't using a mouse, you can use the up and down arrows to select a language and then press the Return key.
The AHT console appears. You can choose which sort of test or tests to perform:
To perform all of the basic tests, click the Test button or press the "T" key or the Return key.
To perform a more thorough diagnostic test, select the "Perform extended testing" checkbox under the Test button before you click the Test button.
Note: Your test results will appear in the window in the bottom-right of the console. To exit AHT, click Restart or Shut Down at the bottom of the window.
Some Macintosh computers that shipped with OS X Lion and later support the use of Apple Hardware Test over the Internet. These computers will start up to an Internet-based version of AHT if the hard drive does not contain AHT.  An Internet-enabled connection via Ethernet or Wi-Fi is required to use this feature. Internet-based AHT functions the same as AHT on the hard drive or flash storage outlined above.
The Mac NoteBook and Desktop computers listed in Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery will require a firmware in order to support the Internet version of AHT. Without this update you may see the behavior discussed in this article.

  • MacMini 2010 4,1 how to run Apple Hardware Test from  /System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics folder

I have a 2010 Mac Mini4,1 with SnowLeapard and plan to upgrade to Mavericks, but can't run Apple Hardware Test from my applications disk 2 that came with the machine.  For some reason the Mac can read it and kicks it our after about a minute.  Seems to be able to reado other disks, so this one may be corrupted. I found info on this community that says that the AHT is on the hard disk and I found it here /System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics using terminal.  When open that folder using terminal it open a window with that folders contents.  My problem is I can execute the only unix executable in that  folder.  It responds with "No application knows how to open /System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics/diags.efi"
Can someone help me out here or if there is downloadable somewhere on line that I can get?

My 2010 4,1 Mac Mini still has the HW Test on the Internal HD after updating it to Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks.
see > Using Apple Hardware Test
Additionally if your using a wireless keyboard and it is not invoking the Hardware Test using the D key immediately after the chine, then you may need to use a USB keyboard. Adding that any Apple, PC or generic Logitech USB keyboard should work for invoking the startup commands.

  • Is there a download for the Apple Hardware test 3A126?

Is there a download for the Apple Hardware test 3A126? I get a gray screen for several minutes until start up, Tried holding down the "D" key but no test, there is a disc stuck in the superdrive so I can't use the install DVD.

You can only run the Apple Hardware Test from the correct Disc that came with your system. see > Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
Have you tried the following > The ultimate guide to ejecting a stuck disc
or > Eject a stuck disk from your Mac DVD super drive to get the stuck disc out?

  • Apple hardware test won't run

I'm positive my exhaust fan is on it's last leg.  I want to run a hardware test to confirm, but nothing works.  I've shut down and held D on starting, I've held Option + D, I've held Command + D, I've restarted, shut down and started up with all these.  Nothing works.  I have a wired USB keyboard, and I've tried with it directly plugged into the mac.  I'm at my wit's end here!

  • Apple Hardware Test : mother board problem : post/16/64

I'm having this problem since last month. My computer won't boot properly, aligning lines and lines on the screen saying there's a problem with cpu 1 or cpu 0. I reset all Xram I could find, reset the PMU, changed the battery...
Finally, I used Apple Hardware Test that gave me this message : post/16/64 on mother board at startup. Then, when I run the tests, everything's OK !
I manage to boot from time to time with 10.4.7 only, other installed systems won't do it.
Would anybody have a clue about this ?
    Thanks for reading me.
My computer is 4 years old, it worked well until then, I want it back, fully fitted.
I have screen shots that I can share if needed.

    G4 QuickSilver bipro 1Ghz Ram 1Go   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   + Mac Os 9.2.2 + Mac OsX 10.2.x

    Hi,
I have some good news for you all : I finally decided to open my machine and see what's inside...
I took a small paint brush, a screwdriver, a pressurized air bomb (hope you call it this way) and cleaned all the inside. I had some parts taken off, even the big thing that gets heat from the processors. My brother, who knows more than I do about the subject even advised me to unplug the processors, supposedly connected on a ZIF card (Zero Insertion Force card). I didn't manage to make them move at all. I took memory bars away, the video card too, to make place for the screwdriver to unlock the (radiator ?). Then I brushed all the dirt away, there was plenty, and put everything back inside.
It works fine, it really does. So, I guess and hope this will last for an other 4 years.
    Thanks for the help.
    Jacques.

  • HT201257 Can I reinstall the Apple Hardware Test?

After an OS reinstall, with a Macintosh HD erase, I've lost the ability to run the Apple Hardware Test directly from my drive.
Now when I try to run it, it only does so from Internet Recovery Mode, which does not sit right by me, once it used to do so without requiring an internet connection and no official Apple article, specifically, warns you that any OS reinstall process can lead to this situation (at least none that I have discovered...)
Is there any way I can get back that feature, which I presume would be installed in a Recovery partition?

I was actually responding to your statement "I've lost the ability to run the Apple Hardware Test directly from my drive." and provided the link (see the Use Apple Hardware Test section) so that you can make sure you were performing the test correctly.
Sorry, that the Article was of no help to you.

  • Apple Hardware Test for MDD G4

While the Apple Hardware Test download page (http://www.info.apple.com/support/aht.html) doesn't have links to them, I have found that there are downloads on apple.com for versions 1.2.7 and 2.0.1 of AHT. These are for the G4 MDD FW 400 and 800 models, respectively.
    AHT 1.2.7:
    http://download.info.apple.com/AppleHardwareTest/693-4821-A.dmg
    AHT 2.0.1
    http://download.info.apple.com/AppleHardwareTest/693-4817-A.dmg
I don't know if AHT 1.2.7 is intended for the 2003 MDD as well (since it's similar to the earlier FW 400 MDD), since Mactracker states that version 2.0.2 shipped with that model. From what I gather, for the 2003 MDD there was not a separate AHT disc but was rather the test was included on the 2 software install discs - but I don't have the discs myself to confirm.

for the 2003 MDD there was not a separate AHT disc but was rather the test was included on the 2 software install discs
You are correct. AHT v2.0.2 is on my restore disc. for a 1.25GHz SP MDD.

  • Apple Hardware Test-Where?

I am a new owner of an iMac Core Duo.
In this General iMac (Core Duo) forum, I have seen a few posts that mention Running A.H.T.
When I've bought previous Apple Computer models, they all came with a CD specific to that machine called "Apple Hardware Test". (Not the AppleCare Test CD, which is TechTool Deluxe).
Although my new iMac shipped with the restoration DVD's, I cannot find any disc that has AHT on it.
Should I have one? Is the Test, on one of the bootable DVD's, and I'm not seeing it?
I'd like to know how others are using A.H.T. with their Core Duo, and where they found it.
iMac Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   20", 2 Ghz, 250 HD, 1 GB RAM, 265 MB VRAM,

    Hi Chris,
Take a close look at the 2 DVD's that came with your iMac
On the one labelled "iMac Mac OS X Install Disc 1" you will notice on the right hand side of the Disc it states "To use Apple Hardware Test hold down the D key as the computer starts up."
Alternatively, with the Disc inserted hold down the Option(alt) as the iMac starts up; this will take you to the Startup Manager screen where you will be able to select AHT as the startup volume.
