Wireless network only visible on Mac but not PC

Hi all,
I replaced my Linksys router with an Airport Extreme.
I configured a wireless network and I can see the wireless network on my MacBook Pro. However, while my PC's can still see the old Linksys wireless network, they don't pick up the wireless network of the Airport Extreme.
Has anybody had the same issue? Any ideas?
Thanks!
-Bernd

No, I'm running in 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) mode.
The firmware version is 7.0.
Do you have another suggestion?
Thanks again,
-Bernd

  • Can connect to wireless network run off dell router, but not internet!

I have a iBookG4 and have moved to a new apt with a wireless network run off a dell router/ comcast. My roommates have both Macs and PCs and can connect with no problems. I found the network on my airport and put in the password, joined network no problem, but cannot connect to the internet. The Airport status is yellow and says that Airport has self assigned IP address and cannot connect to the internet. I can connect fine to other open networks in the area so its not my computer. I tried to copy the IP address from my roommate manually to the network settings but that didn't work either. What am I doing wrong? No one here seems to recall how they set up the network and I am paying for a network I can't access. Please help!!!

Does the dell router have an access list set-up?
With an access list (depending on the router) it can be set-up to allow access for only certain MAC addresses. If your MAC address isn't in the list, you'll not get on.
Usually the router will have an IP address itself of 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.0.1 - depends on the router. You should be able to determine it from the IP address your computers are getting. Try getting someone to connect to this through a browser, and check/change the configuration of the router directly.

It appears what happened is the installer though it was looking at a empty drive and just went ahead and installed.
I of course am assuming here you didn't use Disk Utility to format the drive first before installing, that would wipe out your files and programs for sure.
So what to do, what to do.
Well there is hope for you as long as the drive wasn't Filevaulted.
I'll explain. When a hard drive writes data for the first time to a drive, it starts at the very top and works it's way down.
When OS X was installed the first time, it was at the top of the drive, unless you upgraded then the upgraded OS X could have been written elsewhere.
Now when you just reinstalled OS X, the new OS went on the top of the drive, overwriting any data that was there previously, so what was there you have lost forever which is about 8GB or so. If it was the previous OS there, then your more in luck because only the old OS X was overwritten.
The remaining space on the drive still can have a copy of your files, provided it's not overwritten yet.
It's because when a hard drive deletes data or reformats, it doesn't remove the data off the drive or overwrites it immediately, it's just made so it's SPACE is available for new files to be written there.
So technically one can recover the deleted data off a non-encrypted/scrubbed hard drive with special software.
The way it does this is it reads the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, and through a lot of figuring out, can tell what that file is and what it belongs too.
So what you will have to do is this:
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
or if you don't have the skills, then take it to a local PC/Mac tech and they can do a direct image of the drive and then you can run Data Rescue on it to rebuild your files.

I am trying to set up my newly purchased Apple TV but when I enter my network password while setting up, I am not able to enter the Submit button, any idea how to hit the visible submit button that is visible on screen but not responding?

You need to use the right arrow on the remote to go all the way to the right. The submit button will be highlighted and you can then press select on the remote to proceed.

  • My apple id password only works on my mac but not on my iPhone or iPad

my apple id password only works on my mac but not on my iPhone or iPad what do i do?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)

    Hi,
Apple's AirPrint only support specific models while using wired or wireless network connection.
Plugging a printer into a USB port of Apple base is not supported for AirPrint:
AirPrint printers connected to the USB port of the Apple AirPort Base Station or Time Capsules are not supported with AirPrint.
As well you must use AirPrint enabled printers for a such, none of your printers are AirPrint enabled:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
There are 3rd party solutions which allow sharing a printer connected to your Mac as AirPrint, Printopia as example provide a such:

  • How come my comments are visible in iweb but not on published site?

I published my site (after many frustrating attempts and publish errors) and had allowed comments. I made a blog entry and published to .mac and found out from a friend that that particular entry didn't have an option to add a comment. I tried to republish many times - I don't know how it happened but the comment option showed up eventually. I had the same thing happen again today so I tried publishing again but this time I tried publishing to a folder. Not sure if this caused the problem but now one comment on the blog disappeared and the rest are only visible in iweb and not on the published site - on the published site there isn't an opportunity to add comments where they used to be. Can I get the comments back on my site?
    Thank you for any help.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Oh, rats. Do I need to remove the folder that I published to? I'm not even sure where to find it. I have republished successfully with the comments still in iweb but they don't show up on-line. I'd really like to get them back on if possible.

  • Using ethernet port as bridge to a wireless network in a mini mac

Do you guys know how to use a mini mac as a bridge? You see I have enabled the "share internet" (via wireless) with a mini mac that is connected to the Internet via Ethernet.
All works fine, except: _the devices from the Ethernet network can not be seen by the computers which are connected wirelessly to the mini mac._
*How can I make this computer bridge?*
I have researched for a while and I have come up with the following response:
+t is not a bridge, it is a NAT. I believe u can not set do bridging on mac so easy. You have to study FreeBSD networking documents, and do it at command line.+
+Mac networking core is FreeBSD 5. Some features is avaliable at GUI (Like NAT) and u do not have to use command line complicated tasks. But AFAIK bridging is not so.+
Does anyone have any idea of a step-by-step instruction on how to do this? Or is there a software that eases this? Since I am not a network expert, I do not plan in braking my network.
Is a bit annoying as I hear that Windows can do this in 3 clicks...
    Thanks for your help.

If I read you correctly, this is not a bridge. Internet Sharing is to connect devices via the Mac, but not to act as a router. If you look at the IP numbers, they are not in the same series (e.g. 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.2.2), so ethernet connected devices will not be able to see the wifi ones. A cheap wifi router in bridge mode would be an easier solution.

  • Is there a way to set wireless network priority on iphone? If not, there should be!

Is there a way to set wireless network priority on iphone? If not, there should be! I have a wireless router with dual band signals, as well as an extender at the other end of my home... it would be nice if I could set a priority list so my phone knows to always connect to the 5GHz signal if available, rather than trying to connect to the 2.4GHz signal which is on the other side of the house...

By default, the iPhone will prioritize Wi-Fi over cellular for data and when doing Wi-Fi, will latch on to the strongest signal it can associate (latch on) to. But all that is automatic, there's no evident control for manual adjustments. Other than deleting the Wi-Fi networks you don't like.

If time machine puts all of my photos onto my external hard drive using time machine, can I then delete the photos from my computer but view them again from the external hard drive? Basically, can I free up space on my mac but not lose years of photos?

To add to Niel's comment bear in mind that if you have a backup copy on an external HD and later delete the orignals on your Mac HD you will then only have one copy - so no backup.
If the pictures are precious you should have at least two copies, and ideally another copy kept off site,

Don't use NTFS, remove your data off it first and change the format to something the Mac and PC can read, but doens't cost money or require software.

  • Web graphic links work on Mac, but not PC

I have two websites. The old one is DogToysAndTreats.com. The new one is FunStuffForDogs.com. I need to change the home page graphic on both of them to point to my shopping cart pages. I have done this and published the changes on both sites. It works on my Mac but not on my PC.
On www.funstufffordogs.com, the graphic at the top with the bulldogs is supposed to link to http://store.funstufffordogs.com/storefront.aspx. Same thing on www.dogtoysandtreats.com. It works on my Mac in both Safari and Chrome. On my PC, it doesn't work on IE, Safari or Firefox. (BTW, I haven't worked on any of the other links until I can figure out how to do it properly.)
I don't get why the platform has anything to do with it.
    Lisa

Looking at your source, the problem may be that the images refer to an external server link from the one actually hosting the website page.  Whenever you try to mix servers on a single page, you depend on the network connectivity being reliable to all the servers simultaneously.  This can be as much a problem on a Mac as a PC.  Sometimes routers have bad router tables, or internet providers do, and this can cause issues for multiserver websites.  Using on your router & network settings an OpenDNS DNS server can help:

  • Error when Writing Metadata to Files in Bridge (Mac) but not in Bridge (PC)

We get an error when writing metadata to files in Bridge (Mac) but not in Bridge (PC). In the same drive and folder, the PC can successfully write a keyword to a file on the PC, where the Mac returns an error. I have researched this at the Adobe Knowledgebase, but their answer seemed to indicate it was a global issue, and we don't see that behavior on the PC.
The client is a Mac of course, and the server volume is a Windows share volume. The Mac is bound to AD, and the domain\username and username formats have both been tried when logging in, but you receive the error in both.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Hi, I'm having the same problem using FreeNAS (which uses Samba and Netatalk in the backend), but I tried with both AFP and SMB on Mavericks and Yosemite, I still have the same issue.  I think it might be a timing issue with how lightroom interact with a slower write delay using network shares.  I suggest you also chime into this thread:  Lightroom 5 can't write metadata to DNG files   I really hope this is resolved as this is impacting my productivity as I moved my workflow to my Macbook with a shared NAS.

  • Custom Dashcode widget works fine on mac, but not in iBooks

I wrote a dashcode widget that works fine on my mac but not in iBooks, what am I doing wrong?
I am trying to create a widget that performs a specific calculation when the user inputs the 2 variables. However when I go to preview it on my iPad, the button that performs the calculation disapears. It is visible in the thumbnail, but once you launch to full size... bye bye...
Help is appreciated. Are buttons not allowed?

    tk0us wrote:

That is not correct. What sets the size of the widget when it runs is the canvas size of the widget, not Default.png.
At the link below, you can find a widget with a Default.png of 140x200 pixels. When you run the widget, it displays at 900x607 pixels.
    http://www.triodia.com/staff/michi/drumming/RopeCalc.zip
This demonstrates that Default.png has nothing to do with the size of the widget when it runs. Default.png need not even have the same aspect ratio as the widget canvas.
