Wireless Network seems to be separate from wired.

I have a new WRT54G-TM router. I have two desktops connected to two of the Lan ports and various wireless devices, including a laptop, Nintendo Wii, VOIP phone, and a Tivo. Everything works as far as being able to connect to the internet. The problem I have is that my one desktop has the TivoToGo software installed, but cannot see my Tivo. The software show's the IP address of the router as the one my Tivo is using. I have tried turning off the firewall yet it still doesn't see it. I installed the software on my laptop and it works fine (both Tivo and laptop are wireless). Another similar problem is that I can use remote desktop to access my one wired desktop from the other using the computer name, but I need to use the IP address when using remote desktop from my wireless laptop. When I view the workgroup computers on my laptop I can't see my two wired desktops, and the same goes the other way, but both desktops can see each other. Overall it seems like the wireless network is separated from the wired one.
I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or knows what is going on. I have already made sure AP isolation is off in the advanced wireless settings.
Thanks,
CAA

I have the EXACT same problem. When I am wireless, my TiVo Desktop 2.5 can see my TiVo's programs. When I am plugged in via the WRT54G-TM, I get the "There Was an Error Attempting to Retrieve Data from the Selected DVR." "The system cannot find the file specified" message. I was on the phone with a TiVo Level 2 CSR for over an hour today and we could not solve the problem. I have tried all sorts of fixes like opening ports, removing firewalls, etc. -- all to no avail. In the meantime, did you know you could type https://XXX.XXX.X.XXX/ into your address bar, then use username tivo and password media access key -- obviously, put in your media access key -- not the phrase media access key. You can then download the files directly via the wired connection that way.

  • Apple TV loses wireless network connection when using AirPlay from iPad or iPhone 5

Our Apple TV loses connectivity to our wireless network while using Airplay from our iPad or iPhone 5. This started occurring after the latest iOS update. We are able to wirelessly stream movies from iTunes without any problem. This issue occurs only when using AirPlay. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    I have a:
new MBPr 15" late 2013 with dedicated graphics card
    new airport extreme base station
    3rd generation apple tv
    iPhone 5s
200mb download speed (not important, as streaming video on your local network has nothing todo with outside bandwidth)
All equipment is up to date software wise. Airplay mirroring from my laptop to my apple tv is ok. I get frequent lag, pixelation, audio skip (every 10 mins or so).
I'm using the 5ghz specturm to connect to the airport express so shouldn't have any inteference from my neibours (accordiing to iStumbler i'm the only person with a 5ghz setup using channel 30). I've tried connecting apple tv wirelessly and wired. No issues streaming from my iPhone or an iPad!
Surprisingly, using apps such as Beemer or Air Video Server on my MBP work better than native mirroring when it comes to video play back.
Strange when you think how Air Video works:
    Video file lives on MBP
    iPhone connects to laptop
Video plays on iPhone and is sent to Apple TV via Air Mirroring
    Rather than:
    Video played on laptop
    Video sent to Apple TV
Seems bizzare that my iPhone can handle better streaming than my pro laptop.

  • New C310 - Wireless working FAIL - Printer's wireless network seems to be dead

    Product: HP Photosmart Premium C310
OS: Windows Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 64 Bit
    Error: Wireless working: FAIL
Changes: No changes since this is the first install of this printer ever
    Description:
I've just unpacked my new C310 as a replacement for my older HP Inktjet 3845.
But when trying to install the wireless network everything I try seems to fail.
Printer doesn't detect my wireless network (blue wireless led is blinking 1sec on - 1sec off )
HP Network test tool on my laptop (standing next to the printer to test it's location ) gives no issues whatsoever, wireless network is strong and working very well.
Settings of the wifi connection are WPA security, no WPS, Channel 11, ... .
When I run a Wireless Network Test report from the printer menu, the result is (= printout)
    * Wireless On => PASS
    * Wireless Working => FAIL
    * All the other points below are on status NOT RUN so no connection at all ...
    Solutions tested:
Tried to reboot printer while waiting 1 minute in between => No result
Reset to factory settings straight on the printer => No result
Tried to run the Wireless network Setup Wizzard several times without merit.
Explanations on the forums seemed to be that this might be a faulty wireless network card in the printer?
Since this is one of the reasons of buying this item, I do need it to work.
Can anyone provide me advice/next steps?
    Kind regards,
    Raf

  • My wireless network seems to 'reject' my iPad?

I have had my iPad 2 (not 3G) for sometime now and the wireless connectivity has traditionally been fine. However, for some reason, I can no longer connect my iPad 2 to my wireless network at home, to browse the internet, etc.
I cannot pinpoint when this happened exactly... I can connect my iPad 2 to other wireless networks no problem, say at a friend's house or even at a cafe,  which tells me my iPad 2 seems to be working okay.
Recently I got a new cell phone and it connected no problem to my wireless network at home... it's an LG ShinePlus and set up and connection was flawless. This tells me essentially, that my home wireless network is also fine, too... my cell is also okay in other hotspots as well. Other devices on my home network also seem to be functioning just as they have always been, ex. Wii, wireless printer, iMac.
I've 'reset' the network settings on my iPad 2, rebooted my modem (from my internet/cable provider) and my router... both hardware reboot as well as logging onto the router to do a reboot this way. I've turned the Wi Fi settings switch on and off, and turned the iPad 2 completely off via it's on/off switch for a hard rebbot. iTunes is up-to-date... I'm on System 7 and it is up-to-date.
For whatever reason, my iPad 2 simply can no longer connect to my home wireless network... is it possible for my home network to have my iPad 2 'flagged' or someting? I get that my home wireless network is okay and that the iPad 2 is also okay, but they won't talk to each other. How do I remedy that?
Very frustrating and would love to hear suggestions!
    Thanks!

    Kgriba2011-
You've already tried everything I would.
I don't know if this will help, but it shouldn't hurt anything.  On the iPad, go to Settings-Safari-Clear Cookies and Clear Cache.
One other thing to try is to reset/reboot the iPad.  This is slightly different than the reboot you tried.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  This kind of reset will not hurt anything and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.

  • Time Capsule - Can it run as DHCP router, create a wireless network and plug into switch for wired network all at the same time?

I have a closet with Wired connections from all over the house terminating in it. I also have the internet modem and a switch in this closet. My old setup was a netgear in the closet creating a wireless network and also feeding the Ethernet ports all over the house. In my room, I had an Airport express (a month old) bridging the wifi to make the wifi network larger. The Express was hard wired from the wall and my mac mini was using it's wifi (printer was plugged into other ethernet port). Everything was working great.
Fast forward to last week. My Netgear died. So, I bought a time capsule. My plan was to move the Express to the closet and have it create the wifi network and also then run cat 5 cord from express to the switch to feed all the wired wall plugs. Reset it and set it up to create the wifi network as well as DCHP NAT. Wireless was running great on it. Then I plugged in the Cat 5 in the second Ethernet Port to the switch. Wifi stopped working and none of the computers would connect using wired connections either. They would see a 'network' but nothing would work. I would unplug the Cat 5 feeding the swtich and the wireless would start working again. Plug the Cat 5 back in and wireless would stop.
So I thought I would try the Time Capsule in the closet and see if I could get it to work. Pretty much the same thing, except at this point I figured out if I went in and told it NOT to create a wifi network the wired portion worked fine and all the wired computers in the house worked fine. Of course, then I didn't have Wifi.
I'm not clueless when it comes to networking, but I can NOT figure this out! Can either the Time Capsule or Express Create the wifi network AND also feed the data to the switch for all the wired computers?
To simplify this is what I want my end result to be. I prefer the Time Capsule to be the wireless connection extender, but if I have to have the Express do it, I'm fine with that.
    1. Express in the closet creating the wifi network as well as feeding the data to the wired connections via my switch.
    2. have the Time capsule in my room at the opposite end of the house plugged into the hard wired connection to extend the wrieless network as well as have wired connections such as my printer and my Mac Mini.
If I can get #1 to work, I don't think I'll have any problems with #2. Help!

I have an equally complex setup with a managed switch actually but I have never seen the TC have this kind of issue.
What I do notice is you have changed the TC from defaults.. you are using a non-default IP range.
I have run across issues like this where people move things from default.
I would like you to start over.. factory reset the TC. That will set it back to default router mode.
Do the min setup on the TC..
    1. Change all names from what you were using. That includes the TC name and wireless name/s
Make them short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric because that is the correct way to network. Apple default names with spaces and apostrophes are fundamentally bad.
    2. With just the TC plugged into the switch.. and a single computer connected by ethernet. Power cycle the whole network.. this allows the switch to clear all the old MAC address.
    3. Test on the computer just ethernet. Turn the wireless off.
The computer must use dhcp and must get an ip from the TC.
It has to get the correct Router.. ie Gateway.. I wish apple could stick with proper network terminology.
And it must get same address or valid DNS server address/es.
If it fails.. please plug ethernet directly to the TC.. bypassing the switch.
You should get the standard IP addressing and internet connection.
If not please post the screenshot from the Mac of the network preferences showing the ethernet setup.
I need to see what address it does get. I need you to make sure the ethernet is the TOP of the list. So rearrange the order of network connection. With the airport off it should just go to the top of the list.
If it appears to be working .. but a browser cannot connect, open a terminal and ping an internet address.
Ping the actual gateway address the ISP gives you and ping the ISP dns address.

  • "Extend a Wireless Network" seems to be... broken?

    Hey guys,
    Here's the scoop.
I have one Airport Extreme 802.11n that's connected to a cable modem. It's set to "Create a Wireless Network". It's at 5 GHz, and "Allow this Network To Be Extended" is checked. It works fine!
I have another Airport Extreme 802.11n upstairs that's set to "Extend a Wireless Network". I've then entered the network name and password of the original network. It successfully connects just fine to #1, and gets an IP address.
    Then, I wander about.
When I get poor signal from the original base station (#1), and I enter the range of the extender station (#2), the laptop switches over to #2 and the network COMPLETELY DROPS OUT.
I.e., I can ping 10.0.1.1, but I cannot access the internet, no web pages can be loaded, etc. I'm stuck -- Airport is dead and I have to power down #2 and reboot.
Has anybody tried using two 802.11n Airport Extremes in this kind of configuration? With both set to 5GHz 802.11n only, and one sharing, the other extending?
If so.. what's your secret? Or is this just a striaght-up bug?
    Thanks, Cabel

  • HP Photosmart 7515 says it is connected to wireless network but won't print from anywhere.

My HP photosmart 7515 used to work on my network.  I could print from iphones and my mac mini.  Now it says its connected, it has the IP address 10.0.1.3 and everything on the HP network configuration page says it is functioning normally, but the printer can't be reached by any device and I can't open it in my browser when I type the IP address into it.  I've tried powering it down and unplugging it but at this point I am at a loss.  The only thing I can think of is that I ran a Mackeeper fast cleanup of extraneous files recently and perhaps something was removed that needed to stay.  I don't know.  I tried installing the HP utility for Mavericks (my current operating system on the Mini) but that can't find the printer. I tried typing in the IP address manually but that didn't work either.
When I try to connect to it through eprint it says that it is connected but says there is a problem with the printer.  What's the problem?  It says it is unspecified and to see printer front panel for information on resolving the issue. Where on the front panel?  I have no idea.
Happy to start from the beginning but this is really becoming a pain.  Why doesn't it work?
    Help!  David

FIrst of all, get rid of Mackeeper, it will cause more problems that it will solve.  To uninstall it, open it and have it uninstall itself, then restart your Mac.
Have you restarted your router?  What router are you using?

  • My HP 8600 is connected to a wireless network and won't print from MacBook Pro.

There is an error message that appears in printer status screen that says spool area is full.  I cannot find what this means or any way to resolve it.

Try reboot the MacBook, if that doesn't help, you have to manually clean the spool, google "MacBook Pro clean spool" or post the version of OS X so someone can get you the steps.

  • Connection between Wireless network (shared) and wired network through a router/modem

I have a windows 8.1 X64 installed on my pc. i have connected a USB wireless network adapter to it so that i can connect to another wireless
network. my internet connection comes from this device as well.
I've got a Modem/router/AP (TD-W8970) and i set it up to work as wireless router with DHCP server enabled. i wanted to share my internet
connection that comes from wireless network adapter in home so i did the followings:
    1. connected the WAN port of my router to the Ethernet port of my PC.
    2. in windows' network adapter settings i shared my wireless network adapter's connection with the Ethernet port.
now i can connect with my laptop to my wireless router and use internet connection that is being shared by PC's wireless adapter but i
can't connect to the PC in order to have a home group with it or use the shared files/folders in PC.
    More Details:
    Wireless network adapter local settings:
    IPv4 Default Gateway/ DNS server/ DHCP server = 192.168.1.1
    IPv4 address: 192.168.1.4 - IPv4 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Ethernet
    port settings:
    IPv4 address: 192.168.137.1
    IPv4 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 .
my question is how to make that connection like a LAN and what configuration do i need to apply on both router or PC.
    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi,
Please try the following steps for test to configure your network sharing.
    1. Open CMD, type ipconfig/all. Then remember USB wireless card DNS server address.
    2. Open Network Connection, Change Adapter settings, USB adapter properties, check network sharing.
    3. Open Local network connection, generally speaking, Router's default lan address is 192.168.1.1, you can asign the desktop PC IP as 192.168.1.2.
    4. Access into Router management interface, then enable router's DHCP service. Set its gateway same as sharing host address, DNS server same as USB wlan's DNS server address.

  • I am on a wireless network.  Why do I keep getting messages from iTunes stating that I am not?

I am on a wireless network and keep getting messages from ITunes stating that I am not on a wireless network.  I know the wireless is working.  Itunes will not allow me to rent a movie until i get on the wireless network of which I am already on.  Help.

I just bought two song without problem, then i tried to get the video of the week (free) in canada and I had the same message as you.
the video is just over 50 MB, which is the new limit for file size for App on IOS over 3G and LTE.
I tried on my iPhone same thing. I even put it in the Airplane mode, and then activeated the WiFi
    with the same result.
I then bought another song, smaller than 50 MB and it worked.
My video is not listed as Bought, and it is not available in the "Check for available downoload"
Did any of you had tried to buy something under the size of 50 MB ?
Try the free song to see if is it seize related.

  • Home wireless network connections

I have embarq high speed DSL. I have the DSL modem and a linksys router that creates a wireless network in my homw. I have had this set up for a few years. I have the router connected to a computer that we never use. My question is ---do I have to continue to have the router connected to the computer or can I unhook the router from th computer and still be able to have my wireless network function properly there is no wired connection to a computer.

There is no need of any computer to stay connected to your router(hard wired), you can disconnect the computer from the wireless router and your wireless network will function properly...

  • If I setup a wireless network can I use Airprint on a printer that is NOT Airprint enabled?

The reason for my question is simple, my business has 20 printers and none of them are "airprint" enabled nor do they need replacing.  My reps print order forms from their vans using Canon IP or IP100 and outdated handheld devices, (these devices are bluetooth enabled and we've never had a problem printing) I want to upgrade to ipads.  I'm starting to feel this wont be possible unless I buy new printers.
Does anyone know if I can buy a cheap wireless router, create a wireless network then connect my ipad to any printer, airprint enabled or not??

  • Airport Express won't join my existing wireless network...

I have Broadband in my house. I have a wireless modem also. I have spent hours trying to have Airport Express join the network so I can use the music streaming feature, but I have so far not been successful. I have seen a lot of references to it being very easy and straightforward to set up with it doing most of the work itself. As in, plug in AE to a power socket, open Airport Utility and follow the instructions... It doesn't appear to be that simple, not by a long shot. Can anyone outline how this can be done in simple steps? All of the online steps I have tried do not work, with many of them referencing aspects of the Airport Utility GUI that don't seem to exist...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
For the record, I DO NOT want to replace my existing wireless router, i just want AE to join the network...
    Thanks...
    Ronan

I have the same problem - the AE wont join my Draytek 2600 wireless network. I can stream music wired, but it refuses to join the wireless network. I have tried WEP, WPA, WPA 2 etc. Always get amber flashing light. Ive spent about 5 hours solid on it so far, and I'm a networking expert.
No other device on the planet has problems connecting to my wireless. currently I have:
    1) Belkin wireless Skype phon (no problems)
    2) SOHO wireless IP camera (no problems)
    3) Intel Macbook pro (no problems)
    4) G4 Macbook (no problems)
    5) Dell D600 XP notebook (no problems)
Try to connect the AE? No chance. Its just broken.
I have tried every conceiveable manual setting on the device also.
If I manually set the ip (outside the DHCP range, but within the subnet), subnet, DNS sever, domain etc, I get a GREEN light, but nothing can communicate with it. The utility cant see it, and itunes cant see it.
The real problem is there is no way to know if the problem is with DHCP or the wireless. Does green light mean it has a wireless connection, or it has a valid IP?
Interestingly, if I start it with a wired connection, get a green light, then stream music to it, then pull out the wire, the green light stays, and music players for about another minute (presumably wirelessly, but who knows?) before the music stops and the device (replete with green light), becomes dead to the network.
APPLE desperately needs to sort this out. Its junk.

  • IMac connects to Airport wireless network but not internet

Hi, I'm trying to set up my sister's iMac (education version) and haven't been able to get it to connect to the internet via the Airport Base Station. If it makes a difference, the ABS is an older model from about 4-5 years ago, I think. (Not extreme.)
The ABS is able to successfully dial-up and connect to her ISP.
The iMac displays the connect time, and the Internet Connect application shows for the AirPort Status that the iMac is connected to the network and that it is "Connected to the Internet via the Modem..." (followed the by the connection time.) However, the iMac still won't connect to the internet.
The wireless network seems to work okay. I'm able to access the iMac via my PowerBook and share files.
My PowerBook is able to connect to the internet wirelessly via the same active ISP dial-up connection via the ABS.
I tried duplicating the same network information from the PowerBook, but that still didn't work. As far as I can tell, the settings in the PowerBook are the same as in the iMac.
I'm tapped out of ideas right now. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
