Wireless networking loosing network

OSX 10.4.7
MBP
so I am working with an MBP and I have only one wireless network at home but many neighbors have wireless.
I am finding that my wireless connectivity to my wireless router gets lost from time to time.
I want to automatically reconnect when my wireless router is reachable again.
How do I configure this option?
Currently I dont connect to any wireless network and it is up to me to manually choose the SSID from the list again.
Clues please?
thanks in advance,
Noah

Hello Noah.
This should already be configured.
Go to System Preferences > Network.
At Show:, select Airport.
Under the Airport tab at By default, join: is Preferred Networks selected or Automatic?
When Preferred Networks is selected, is your wireless network the only one listed?
In addition, do you have Enable interference robustness selected?
What brand and model wireless router are you using?
Have you tried disconnecting or turning off the wireless router for several minutes and then turning it back on allowing it to reset?
If a 3rd party wireless router, have you checked the manufacturer's website for an available firmware update for your router model?

  • Problems wirelessly extending 5Ghz network with Time Capsule

    Summary:
My Time Capsule wirelessly extends a 5Ghz "n" network provided by my Airport Extreme, but the Time Capsule frequently fails and stops providing Internet access to connected computers. I'm not sure if the problem is with the Time Capsule or with the Airport Extreme it's connecting to.
    Setup:
Airport Extreme (dual band) connected to cable modem. It provides a 5Ghz "n" network and a 2.5Ghz "b-g-n" network. This is in the bedroom.
Time Capsule (non-dual band) joins the 5Ghz network and extends it. This is in the office, maybe 40 feet away, line-of-sight. There is a laser printer connected to the Time Capsule via ethernet.
My MacBook is set to join the 5 Ghz network, and since it's in the office, it ends up joining via the Time Capsule. This is the desired behavior, as connecting through the Time Capsule seems to result in the fastest possible backup speed.
There are no wireless devices, such as cordless phones, in the house. The microwave is NOT in use when the problems arise.
    *The Problem:*
Frequently, the MacBook loses its Internet connection, though it is still connected to the 5Ghz network through the Time Capsule. When this happens, it can only see the Time Capsule it's connected through (and other devices that are connected to it) but no other devices on the network.
When this happens, other devices that are connecting to the 5Ghz network through the Airport Extreme can no longer see the Time Capsule or any devices connected to it, such as the laser printer or my MacBook. This includes the living room computer, which has never been able to complete a backup due to this problem.
The Time Capsule's and the Airport Extreme's indicator lights both stay green.
If I change the Macbook's connection to the 2.5Ghz network, it can see the devices connected to the Airport Extreme, but can no longer reach the Time Capsule.
    *Unsuccessful Solutions:*
This was happening in a previous incarnation of the network, when I had a non-dual band Airport Extreme providing the main network, the Time Capsule connected via 5Ghz, and an Airport Express connected via ethernet to the Time Capsule to provide a b-g network.
I replaced the Airport Extreme with a new dual-band unit to simplify the setup, but it did not solve the problem.
Since the Time Capsule seemed to be the weak link in the network, I reported the problem and got the unit replaced, but the problem still persists.
I've reset both the Airport Extreme and the Time Capsule to their factory settings numerous times, and set them up again from scratch (no imported settings). I've gone in and made sure that there were no WDS settings leftover from the earlier configuration, as the 5Ghz network does not need it to extend itself.
    *Plea for help:*
Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem?

    Update
The other day, I modified the setup so that the Time Capsule doesn't extend the wireless network wirelessly, only through Ethernet (so the attached printer will work, but the computers will connect directly to the AEBS. The Time Capsule stayed connected long enough for me to do a full backup (125GB) from the downstairs computer.
I thought I had it "solved" (though extending the 5Ghz network would be preferable so the office computers can have faster backup speeds.)
But yesterday, I went to print to the Ethernet-attached printer, and it got only one page out before it disappeared off the network again, and the print job failed. I noticed it did it again, today.
So the problem is not tied to wirelessly extending the network.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A looses network connectivity

    Hello community,
Got a strange thing setting up my brand new OJ 8500A: Connected the printer via LAN cable to an AVM 7270 router. Assigned a fixed IP on the router, using the printer’s MAC address (printer has automatic IP). Connecting the cable, the printer got it’s IP and I could install the printer driver on the connected PC’s without problem. Printing and scanning to disk worked fine and accessing the EWS was no problem.
But after a time (this is now between 30 sec and 2 min of idle time) the connection is lost. The port shows active on the router, but EWS can’t be reached and the printer does not reply pings. If I try to scan from the 8500A to the disk (server) I get a non-connectivity error message. Printing from a PC is not possible (says printer not available).
To get out of this I have to restart the printer or disconnect the LAN cable, re-connect, wait until the link is re-established and can do all (print, scan, EWS). After some time, (with the printer not being used) the connection is lost again.
I then changed to wireless. Here is the same issue – the connection restores if I disable the wireless link and re-establish.
There is no firewall except the AVM hardware firewall between the printer and the server. Scanning to disk after re-establishing the link always works and the printer replies ping requests from various sources. But it falls asleep soon thereafter. Both LAN port and WLAN have been confirmed to work for other devices (laptop computer).
Am kind of desperate and hope somebody out there can help. Searched the forum but not successful. Appreciate all help.
    Thanks, Eric

Got some new info to share:
First, let me explain the details of my network: The network is based on a AVM 7270 (Fritz!Box Fon WLAN) with firmware 74.04.88. Several workstations are connected to this router: WinXP home, WinXP Pro and one Win7 are present. A Synology 107+ disk station running DSM3.0-1342 is connected and used as NAS. The HP8500A is connected (typically) via LAN (WLAN is possible and even more stable - just don't want to keep WLAN continuously on). The 107+ and the HP8500A have fixed IP’s defined on the AVM 7270 (via their MAC addresses). The computers use DHCP.
No connectivity problems are known in the entire network. It is running stable and reboots of router and NAS are done only on firmware upgrades or power failures. The 107+ holds the directory where the HP8500A scans network scans onto. The HP8500A was purchased in Germany the week prior Christmas. Installation of the software using the supplied CD was problem free. The HP8500A works fine (so printing or scanning from a PC, but also scanning from the printer to the NAS), as long as all is done right after start of the printer. After a while (this is 10 sec … 30 sec via LAN or 1 … 20 min via WLAN) the HP8500A is no longer reachable from any of the PC’s (no printing, no web service), but also fails to connect to the NAS for network scans. When I get the connection failure message and I ping the printer, it returns the first of the 4 pings. The remaining 3 fail. If I ping right again, all 4 pings fail. If I ping a few minutes later, the first ping is returned, the other ones fail. If I wait longer I realized that the connection is restored after some time (>15 min), but still not lasting.
When I connect my laptop (WinXP) directly to the HP8500A (all fixed IP’s), the connection remains stable. Printing to the printer or scanning from the printer to the laptop is enabled all time.
When I connect my laptop and the HP8500A to a Netgear DS108 hub (without the AVM 7270), the connection remains same stable as the direct connection between laptop and printer.
When I connect my laptop and the HP8500A to an Eumex 704PC LAN router (my previous (and still backup) router), the connection is stable.
When I connect a.m. configuration to the AVM 7270, the problem re-occurs. If I disconnect the AVM 7270, the connection remains active.
Right now I have the original configuration restored (HP8500A connected via LAN to the AVM 7270). The connection fails as described above. But periodically it seems to wake up (see also above). Print jobs that are spooled suddenly are executed. Unfortunately this is not predictable – can take 15 … 30 min. But I have got all pages printed after some while…
This is the reason why I think this particular issue is not driver related. Scans to network (Synology NAS) do not use the Windows platform – and are affected too. There seems to be an incompatibility between the HP8500A and the AVM 7270. This incompatibility seems not to exist between the HP8500A and the older models Eumex 704 or Netgear DS108 (simple hub, no router). HP service states they have 6 HP8500A printers stable running in their network (have no info about details). But obviously there must be a number of customers without problems. So, what makes the combination of HP8500A and AVM 7270 instable? And is the AVM 7270 the only router that shows this problem – this forum indicates several other configurations that also drop connection. Is there a protocol detail where the AVM 7270 cuts the connection as it may feel intrigued? Is it the AVM 7270 that stops talking to the HP8500A or is it the HP8500A that stops talking on the network? Why is always the first ping returned with normal response time?
Lots of questions. Maybe there is somebody out there that can arrange these puzzle pieces into a picture…
    Best regards
    Eric

  • New laptop won't print wirelessly to a network printer

I just bought a new laptop running windows 7, and it wont print to my photosmart c5580 that is networked and wired through my computer (desktop) and shared running windows XP. I also know that my computer has to be on for this to happen, I also know that the printer is networked correctly cause I have another desktop that prints fine wirelessly through the network. The laptop recognizes the printer as well as other files that are being shared, I have also downloaded the windows 7 driver for that printer, as well as change the name of the workgroup to match the rest of the computers on the network. Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi,
There is a challenge sharing a 32 bit driver from XP to a 64 bit version of Windows 7, as a software installation defaults to 64 bit. The exact opposite happens on a 64 bit XP to 32 bit Windows 7. The solution is to use Add a device, and check the x86 box when prompted. Here are the links to HP documents which should help you resolve the issue:

  • Mac Mini Late 2012 OS X 10.9.4 loosing network connectivity

I haven't found the exact issue on the forums nor outside it so I'm creating a new thread.
My Late 2012 Mini started loosing network connectivity after upgrading to 10.9.4, both WiFi and Ethernet.
Sometimes it takes around 5 minutes, sometimes more than 30 but the connectivity gets disrupted continuously, the packets stop going in or out for around 30 seconds. I've done PRAM and SMC resets, I've changed network locations, nothing helps and I've found nothing interesting in the system logs.
Also I can't login to the Apple bugtracker due to some error so I'm reporting it here.
The only USB devices i have connected are keyboard and mouse.
    Any help will be appreciated.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • How do I set up my HP psc2175xi all in one printer for wireless printing or network printing?

How do I set up my HP psc2175xi all in one printer for wireless printing or network printing?
I am changing the set up of my home computer to add another computer.
I would like to go wireless from my computers to the hub and wired from the hub to my
printer. I do not think this printer can do that since it does not have the ports to connect to a router hub, I think.
I am rather new to this way of setting up, so any help would be nice.

You could get a wireless router that supports USB printers, but these only support printing, not scanning.  You could just go buy a new wireless printer since your printer is pretty old, anyway.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • E60 lost wireless connection to network

my E60 lost wireless connection to network. tried GPS, DUAL, automatic, manual search for network. Same SIM works fine with different phone. Any idea anyone?

    Hi Neil
I'm not familiar with HH (I use a third party router) but it looks as though the HH is set to NOT broadcast the SSID. I'm sure that if you go into the HH settings (the address foe the HH should be 192.168.1.254) you should find somewhere a check box or whatever that allows the router to b'cast the SSID or not. Some would argue that you should not b'cast the SSID but IMHO it makes no difference as the SSID is so easy to discover even if it's not being b'cast.
Just another thought is that you might have to set the wireless connection up as a separate connection to the wired connection. I don't know which OS you are using but if Win 7 then go into 'Network and Sharing centre' and then select 'connect to a network' and take it from there. If not on Win 7 then, if I recall correctly, right click on the networking icon in the system tray and there should be an option to connect to a network.
Hope this helps, if not then I'm sure there are other HH users on this forum who will provide advice.

  • IPhone OS3 and Wireless Ad-Hoc Networking (Vista)

I used to use my laptop (running Vista) to create a Wireless ad-hoc network. I then used to connect to this wireless ad-hoc network using my iPhone nd surf the net that way...
Now after upgrading to OS 3 i do the same thing... but when i connect to the wireless netwrok with the iPhone... it disconnects my laptop computer from the internet... but the iphone still manages to get internet perfectly.
Anyone having this problem... or better yet know how to fix it?
    Cheers

I was kinda figuring that, that was the impression I've been getting after hours and hours of research. What I did find was that you can use Applescript to create an ad-hoc network, and that Applescript can be run from a Java program. Once that network is established, would it be feasible for Java to it to send packets to another machine?

  • OEL 5.6 after reboot looses network configuration

    I have a HP-DL980 with OEL 5.6 kernel 2.6.32-100.26.2.el5 #1 SMP Tue Jan 18 20:11:49 EST 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
It has 2x 10Gb NIC's and 4x 1Gb NICs, after a reboot the server looses network configuration and can't login or ping the server. NIC's were replaced and tested in another server and they work fiine, cabling re-checked works fine. I am able to reproduce it on a DL-585 as well with the same OEL version and kernel. I've tried to re-enable the NIC's and still no connectivity.
    Any thoughts, ideas?

I think you may be correct. The DL980 has a extension board where the NIC card is added. I don't have this issue on a DL585. If I remove the module from the kernel and reload it then it appears to work, only if the server reboots it doesn't recognize the cards at all and gives me the error messages above. I have opened a call with oracle, working on getting the files to them right now. thanks for the note on the bugzilla. I'll check it out. I posted info on the bug 680411 and got a response back that they do not have such a kernel and it is nont related. I am using the OEL5.6 with the unbreakable kernel.

  • Connecting to wireless AND wired network at the same time.

I just bought 2 lacie 500 GB Network Hard Drives with Gigabit Ethernet. One for file storage, the other for a backup of the first drive.
My iMac connects to my DSL router using a Linksys wireless G Access Point, which is in another room in my apartment, due to the genius contractor installing only one telephone jack.
So can I use my iMac's ethernet port to connect to a gigabit switch, and then connect the 2 external HDD to the switch? I don't need the other computers on my network to have access to the external HHD, just my iMac. However I do need to be on the 'net and have access to the external HDDs at the same time.
    Thanks

No problem at all, the Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
So drag Airport to the top, Ethernet second and you should be good to go.

  • Loose network connection after sleep

Everytime my macbook pro sleeps it looses network connections in my home and I have to go through re-establishing connection including network password

This seems to be a common issue on most Mac platforms lately.  I have 2 Macbook Pro's and 1 Air all experiencing this issue.  It only happens on hidden networks, at least in my case and most I have read.  I have yet to hear any official response from Apple but there must be at least 15 threads on this exact topic thoughout the forums.
Some people claim removing all the "Remembered" networks and re-add them fixes it.  I have noticed the only thing that seems to work is if I remove all networks and if I have a hidden network, it can be the only one listed. As soon as I add another saved network hidden or not, the problem comes back.
This is hard since most of the end users that use the macbooks on our hidden networks also use them at home.  So they naturally have multiple networks listed.  The odd thing is its not ALL of them.  We have a bunch of other Mac's that do not experience this issue.
I know this is not a solution but it is what I have found so far...

  • Knocked out wireless compatibility with network printers?

I'm having this same issue with my 2008 MacBook running 10.7.5. Reading some other forums, it seems as if Lion knocked out wireless compatibility with network printers...
I have rebooted my machine, uninstalled and reinstalled all my drivers and continue to have this issue while not having the same issue with my Dell (work issued) laptop. First time a PC has ever performed better than my Mac.
    <Re-Titled By Host>

I still have questions about how to connect the Brother printer through ethernet. When connected does the airport utility have some area where you can identify the printer as a network printer as opposed to USB?
The AirPort Utility would only come into play if the printer was attached to the TC's USB port. Printers, attached by Ethernet, would have to "network-ready." Controlling these types of printers would be through the printer driver that you would access through the operating system interface.
In my HP example, the HP printer driver does provide access to a number of features particular to this printer model. Most manufacturers include an installation CD that provide useful utilities ... albeit most are written for Windows. I would suggest checking out the Brother support site to see if they have Mac-specific drivers or utilities.
