  • Reganining (Wireless) Network Scanning after 10.8.2 update

Up to 10.8 I hab no issues printing and scanning wirelessly through my Canon MP620 whoch is connected directly to my Wireless network. They showed up as two devices (Printer / Scanner) in my System Preferences.
However, after updating to 10.8.2 - though the scanner was still there in the system prefs - it just didn't wotk anymore and would not be found.
the scanner worked well, since when connected directly to the Mac it showed up immediately and worked fine.
I tried a couple of things that didn't help before I came across the solution.
    First, what didn't work:
    - updating drivers through software update
    - updating drivers through CANON
    - reconfiguring the Printer/Scanner through Canon LJ Network Tool (Version 4.0)
    - Restarting, rebooting machine, Printer etc.
What did help finally: Restarting printer system (right-click in print/scan prefs) and reboot.
Now the printer as well as the scanner showed up and could be re-added.
OPne more glitch I had to overcome was that the scanner was detected, yet it gave me a communication error that went away, after I printed the first page.
    Now, everything works as expected.
Since there is a lot of discussions about this going on I thought I'd share this.

Very strange, you're not the only one with the old build#... I wonder...
Hmmm, did you try the direct download & install method?

I think that's it, but shows the original date!?

  • HPM1212nf MFP i can't scan but wireless network works fine for printing

i have the MFP set up fine for printing over a wireless network.  Any idea on what more i  need to do to get the machine to accept a scan command from the computer using HP Laserjet Scan?

    Hi there @bc123!
Thanks for contacting the HP Forums!
I see that your having a communication issue with the HP LaserJet when it comes to scanning to the computer, and I would be happy to provide you with my assistance.
A good place to start when troubleshooting scanning is to ensure the CD was installed correctly on your computer. If the CD is unavailable then I can provide you with a link to the HP driver download: Drivers & Downloads
In the link provided you will want to:
1.enter your printers model number and click GO
    2.select your printer model
3.select your operating system and click NEXT
4.Click on Driver - Product Installation Software (‏1)
5.Click DOWNLOAD next to the full feature software
To provide you with a more direct link to your software and to better assist you, would you please provide me with the following information:
    1. What operating system version the computer is running (ex. Mac, Windows, etc.).
Bellow are 2 links I located from HP and Macintosh on how to locate your version of operating system.
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Finding the OS X version and build information on your Mac
    2. If the computer is running Windows I will need to know what version (ex. 32-bit or 64-bit).
I have provided another link from the HP web site showing you how to check if its 32-bit or 64-bit
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
    3. Laserjet model number (ex. P1102w, CP1025, etc.).
Please post back with the requested information, as well as the results of your troubleshooting.

  • HP8500A all-in-one can no longer scan thru wireless network but prints fine.

HP8500A all-in-one can no longer scan thru wireless network but prints fine. Have used this device several times over past 2 years on different wireless networks (at home) but usually at some point I lose wireless scan function but maintain wireless Printing.  I used to be able to reload the software and resolve the issue but now in this "new network" cannot get wireless scanning to work.   Setup software; original software (CD) and current download as well as "Print/Scan Dr"  hangs-up at "network check"  for hours.  Compaq laptop, Dell Laptop, Cell phones and Roku work fine thru network.  Scanner works fine with USB to Laptops.

    Which model Epsons are they?
I'm assuming you're using Yosemite (OS X 10.10), and that the problem developed when you upgraded from a previous OS.
    (Your profile says 10.6.7 BTW).
Maybe the scanning function is not compatible with Yosemite.
You could try a few things:
    reset your wifi system:
power down everything: modem, router, computer, printer/scanners.
    wait a minute.
power them all up again, in that order: modem, router, computer, printers. Let each power up completely before going on to the next.
try a factor reset on your printer/scanner (if there is such a function). You'll have to check your manual for how. If you do that you'll have to enter the wifi password in your printer/scanner, assuming you have security on your network.
uninstall any printer manufacturer "utilities" that are on your Mac, and try Image Capture again.
If it is a compatible software issue, you could try VueScan, but I've never needed to use it.

  • Deskjet F4140 won't scan on wireless network

I have a deskjet F4140 connected to my home wireless network using a DLink DP301U wireless router. All computers on the network find the printer OK  and print properly, but we are unable to scan anything into any of the computers from the F4140. What research I've done tells me that the DP301U just does not have that capability. None of the routers I have found that list the All-in-One units that they will support show the F4140 as an approved unit. Can anyone tell me what wireless router will work with the F4140 and allow it to scan to the network as well as print? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
    John D
    Phoenix, AZ

Thanks for the reply Doc. I've been finding that out with my own research. The few that claim to support the scanning functions also do not list my printer as one that will work with them. I have however discovered that there are at least a couple of wireless All-In-One printers that sell in about the same price range as any of the routers that claim to be able to do the job. Given the somewhat limited options, my wife seems to think she can live with having to hook her laptop direct to the printer when she needs to scan something, so for now I guess we will just live with the print only function. If it gets to be too big a hassle, we'll just replace the printer. The F4140 is not exactly a top of the line unit anyway, and we might just end up with something better in the process. Thanks again for your help.

I really don't want to have to drive 40 minutes to the nearest 'genius bar'. I'm about ready to break this thing over my knee. I've even tried the frig trick. it worked for about 30 seconds. and then? nothing. any non sarcastic suggestions?

  • Can't scan from wireless networked Pixma MP640

I just hooked up a new Canon MP 640 via wireless network through my Airport Extreme. Printing works fine, but when I try to scan to my Macbook the printer can't find it over the network. It will only scan to the Macbook with a direct USB connection. I can't find any documentation that suggests that scanning doesn't work over a network connection. Any help?

First of all, even though you mention network scanning, I am not sure if you have the printer using the internal wireless support or if you have it connected to the USB port of the Airport Extreme. Some users interpretation of network connections vary. So if you do have it connected to the USB port of the Extreme, then scanning is not supported. This is a limitation of Airport devices.
If however you have configured the MP640 to connect to the Extreme via wireless and you are trying to initiate the scan from the MP640 to the Mac using the Scan button, then you need to have the [Canon IJ Network Tool v2.70|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0200080802.html] installed on the Mac.
Also, if you want MP Navigator to open when you use the MP640 Scan button, you need to install [MP Navigator Opener v3.0|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0200087801.html] on the Mac.
Note that for the network scanner, there should be a separate MP640 entry under the heading of Scanners within the list of devices in Print & Fax. With this MP640 selected, you will have the Open Scanner button visible in the right hand pane. If you click this button, the MP640 scanner window will appear and attempt to connect to the AIO. Does this occur for you?

  • Scan to printer over wireless network

    Hi there,
I have the pixma mx882 printer and it is configured over my wireless network. I am trying to locate the scanning software that enables me to scan via the wireless network?.
I tried the MP Navigator EX V4.1.3, although it says I need to connect the printer via USB. I presume there is a way to scan back to my Windows 7 PC via the wireless config I have?
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/printers_multifunction/office_all_in_one_inkjet_prin...
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi motoq79,
With MP Navigator EX installed and the printer setup on the network, you may need to configure a few additional things to be able to scan over the network.
We have an excellent article on our Knowledge Base that details all the setup that is necessary to scan over the network.  To view the article, CLICK HERE.

  • Possible to Scan via Wireless Network?

Is it possible to add a flatbed scanner via an Airport wireless network? I have my Airport network set up and I am able to print wirelessly. The printer is an Epson all-in-one (Stylus Photo RX 500) so it includes a scanner. I can scan when hooked directly into the computer via USB but I have not been able to do so wirelessly. Is there a way to set this up, or am I limited to wireless printing only?
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We have a cable modem that is currently set up to provide a LAN to a PC and desktop mac via ethernet. We recently purchased a laptop with airport extreme. Instead of stringing new cable and to give complete mobility with laptop, thought to set up a wireless netwrork, and bought a netgear wireless modem.
I not quite sure I understand your current network configuration as you described it. What is the make/model of your cable modem? ...and what is the model of your wireless Netgear router?
If I understand what you're trying to achieve, then your network configuration should be something like the following:
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Internet port] Wireless Netgear router [LAN port #1] > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] PC, AND
[LAN port #2] > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] Desktop Mac, AND
    (wireless) > wireless computer(s)
I tried to dial in to the netgear wirelessly, but kept comin gup against dead ends between not finding a netwrok, etc.
Do you mean you tried to access the Netgear's web-based administration pages to set it up?

  • On an M425dn, I am unable to setup scan to network folder on a home wireless network

On an M425dn MFP, I am unable to setup 'Scan to Network Folder' on a home wireless network. The network folder exists and has been set to share with full permissions for everyone. The OS is Windows 7. The printer IP address is 192.168.1.104. I have used this in a browser to access the setup tab called Scan. I have established a network folder and have attempted to test the setup folder multiple times. The tests end in one of two ways. The attempt spins endlessly which requires a cancel action or it ends with the following error: "Cannot connect to the network folder. Ensure the shared folder name is correct." The network folder does indeed exist.
The computer name is Delta. The shared folder name is Images on my A: drive.
So the network path entered is \\DELTA\Images. By the way, printing to this network printer is always a succesful operation. Any guidance to solving this dilemma will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • IPhone 4S - Could not scan for wireless networks - help needed please

    Hi
Can anyone offer any advice please.
My 4s has developed an wifi issue. It cant scan for wireless networks My bluetooth is intermittent also.
I have turned it on/off, rebooted, reset all networks, reset to factory settings, set to airplane mode, set to do not disturb - everything and all to no avail.
I am under a two year contract with Vodafone and went into their branch at Merry Hill, Dudley today and they failed to help me saying it was nothing to do with them.
I am at a loss as to what to do. I have not had any accident with my phone and it is still in mint condition.
Can anyone please offer any suggestions on what to do.
    Many thanks.

Apple's out-of-warranty policy is a feeble attempt at covering up it's issues and is a clear cut demonstration for their lack of respect for its user base. Their WIFI/Bluetooth dropping issues have been around for several years now and it started within the last 3 IOS updates. Apple engineers acknowledge this problem and don't have a solution yet... this was confirmed at the Genius Bar at their Nashua, NH outlet. My phone is 6 months passed warranty and my Verizon contract isn't up for renewal for another 6 months.
There are a lot of complaints about this (a LOT), yet Apple continues to stick its head in the sand instead of owning up to providing shoddy hardware and/or glitches software. They certainly don't want to be in the business of replacing phones, so they put the onus on us by charging $200 for a replacement... such a deal for Apple!
Apple's support communities are basically useless on this subject with a lot of screwy so-called solutions to work around their flaws. I've seen one  fix where you heat up the phone with a hairdryer until the temp warning appears and then refrigerate it for 10 minutes... then BINGO, it's all fixed! Ya right!!!
Resetting network settings, or all settings (including a complete reset) is ineffective and appears to do nothing more than to further upset Apple users once they realize that they have wasted their time following Apple's so-called fix.
I just wonder if or when Apple pulls it's collective head out of the sand will they be able to see that their competition has surpassed them by leaps and bounds. There really isn't any good reason to stick with Apple now-a-days since their conscience passed away. Their competition offers superior technology while Apple continues to impress up with new connector technology and placement of their sockets.
I am finished with Apple and am incredibly sick of their spoon feeding what they want rather than what we want.
The best way to make Apple improve is to provide them with a taste of their own WIFI/Bluetooth offerings by DROPPING THEM!
They have abandoned us and have no problem trying to charge us to replace their flawed technology instead of doing the right thing!

  • Bummer..my phone quit scanning for wireless networks

in Baja on vacation and my phone suddenly stopped scanning for wireless networks. Got any ideas? My partners iphone works fine. I reset my wireless networks in the settings window. I tried manually entering the network name and pass code. I removed and replaced my sim card. I'm hesitant to synch, backup and reset my phones settings since I definitely don't want to compromise it further. Been there done that.

Here is a solution that might help. I too had the unhappy message of " could not scan for wireless networks". Thinking it was a wifi hardware problem or software problem made me give up until an idea hit me. Maybe it was an app. that was giving me problems. So I deleted an app. I had , which was Devicescape Easy Wifi, and did a reset network setting. This solved my problem. So look at your app. list and delete any wifi app. and see if that works.

  • Stuck interrupt when scanning for wireless networks (Athero chipset)

I'm working on getting wireless running on my Thinkpad T40 with an Atheros AR5211 a/b adapter. The ath5k module loads automatically, and the dmesg output seems to indicate that it is properly detecting the card:
    % dmesg|grep ath
    [ 4.767272] ath5k 0000:02:02.0: registered as 'phy0'
    [ 5.042780] ath: EEPROM regdomain: 0x61
[ 5.042787] ath: EEPROM indicates we should expect a direct regpair map
    [ 5.042793] ath: Country alpha2 being used: 00

    [ 5.478553] ath5k: phy0: RF2111 2GHz radio found (0x23)
I brought the interface up using ip:
    % ip link show wlan0
4: wlan0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
    link/ether [redacted] brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
The trouble comes when I try to scan for wireless networks. I run "sudo iw dev wlan0 scan". At this point, the system becomes very sluggish, and the load average began to monotonically increase. The scan never completes; I left it for 15-20 minutes and cut it off when the load passed 3.5. The load average did not go down after iw was killed. Checking in top, the CPU was pretty evenly split between a kworker process and ksoftirqd, even with the scan terminated.
I've searched around, and while there are all manner of problems reported with getting various wireless configurations to work, no one seems to get tripped up at the scanning phase like this. Does anyone know of diagnostics I could try (or perhaps other scan tools?) to narrow down what is actually causing the CPU to get hammered?

I got a chance to play around with this a bit more, trying wireless_tools this time:
    % sudo iwlist wlan0 scan
wlan0 Failed to read scan data : Resource temporarily unavailable
As before, the load average then continues to increase until the system becomes unusable. This would lead me to believe that I have a driver or kernel issue, since that would be the commonality between the two tools.
The other interesting output is this:
    % dmesg|tail
[ 280.973316] ath5k: phy0: too many interrupts, giving up for now
[ 280.989985] ath5k: phy0: too many interrupts, giving up for now

[ 281.094544] ath5k: phy0: too many interrupts, giving up for now
[ 281.109122] ath5k: phy0: too many interrupts, giving up for now
Looking at longer tails, this message repeats many many times, interspersed with:
    net_ratelimit: 321 callbacks suppressed
With various values for 321. Some interrupt getting stuck would make sense for why the load average blows up, but I really don't know how to fix that ...
I verified on the ath5k site (http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Dri … rted_Chips) that my chip is supported:
    % lspci
02:02.0 Ethernet controller: Qualcomm Atheros AR5211 Wireless Network Adapter [AR5001X 802.11ab] (rev 01)
Any tips for what might cause a stuck interrupt like that?

  • IPad could not scan for wireless networks

My iPad 2 was bought in April 2011. And just a few hours ago it suddenly disconnected from my home WIFI.
I tried to reconnect it, but it either kept scanning the network or kept prompting the warning message "iPad could not scan for wireless networks".
My Macbook Pro, iPhone and another iPad 3 were all working fine with my two different WIFI points at home yet only my iPad 2 couldn't scan both WIFI at all.
    I have tried to:
    1. Reboot IOS (turn it off and on)
    2. Take out sim card
    3. Reset Network Settings
    4  Reset All Settings
    5. Restore iPad from iTune
I've called Apple, obviously they had no clues about this problem and they just adviced me to send in my iPad 2 for 1-to-1 change.
This seems to be a common unsolved issue for apple users. Has anyone solved this before?
Now I'm worrying will my iPad 3 get the same issue in future. it makes me quite frustrated

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
iPad: Issues connecting to Wi-Fi networks  http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3304
iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
