Wireless non connectivity

Hi all;
i have an issue, we have a small wireless network using a cisco 2000 series WLAN controller, and for sometime now it would drop connectivity to the cisco accespoints. it would normally be resolved by resetting, however recently it took a turn for the worst. the device is accessible via web and command line but none of the access point will associate with it. i've reloaded the image as well as the config file but it is still the same. any ideas?? thanks in advance

Post a console log from an AP as it boots up and attempts to join, and a log of "debug lwapp events enable" from the controller during the same timeframe.

  • Can you print from an iPad to non wireless printer connected to timecapsule

I just purchase an iPad. Can I print to non wireless printer connected to timecapsule? If yes, what app do I need for the iPad?

You might want to take a look at Print Central or Printopia.
PrintCentral for iPad on the iTunes App Store
Printopia - AirPrint to Any Printer - Print from iPad - Print from iPhone ...
I can verify that Printopia works just fine for me on my iPad, but haven't tried Print Central.

  • ? possible to connect AEBS to existing wireless internet connection

    Hi
I have a cable connection to a Netgear W614 wireless router and can connect to the internet wirelessly using my MBP.
What I would like to do is have an airport extreme in a separate room with a printer connected to it connected to the same wireless network. What I hope to do is be able to connect wirelessly to the internet through my Netgear ( as I have been doing) but have wireless access to the printer connected to the AEBS.
I seem to be able to see how to "set this up" if the AEBS is hardwire connected to the netgear ( and thus the internet) but this defeats the purpose for me as I want to have the Netgear and the AEBS in separate rooms. I cant seem to see how to get the AEBS to wirelessly connect to the network and share the printer and yet retain internet connection through the Netgear.
Is this setup possible e.g MBP connected to a wireless network which has a Netgear wireless router connected to the internet and a AEBS connected to a printer in diffrerent rooms?
    Cheers

Hello RichwhG. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
To connect the AEBS to the Belkin, wirelessly, in order to extend the Belkin's wireless network, you would have to establish a Wireless Distribution System (WDS) between the two.
Unfortunately, most non-AirPort routers are not compatible with Apple's implementation of WDS...so it very unlikely that your router can be extended wirelessly with the AEBS.
The few that are known to work are:
    o Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not v5)
    o Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    o BT Voyager 2091
    o Netgear WGR614 v6
    o Buffalo WGR-G54
The other option is to configure the AEBS as it's own wireless network to share the printer, but you would then have to switch wireless networks between Internet access or for printing.

  • Bootcamp Windows 7 Wireless Network Connection: No Valid IP Configuration

I just bought a new 13" MBP and have installed Windows 7 Ultimate via Bootcamp 5.0. I installed the Windows Support Software that I had previously downloaded via Bootcamp Assistant on Mac OS. Although the Wireless Network Connection asked for my network key and connects to the network, I cannot access the internet. The troubleshooter find this problem: "Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have valid IP configuration. I am using my old Dell computer and it is connecting to the wireless properly and my MBP can connect on Mac OS, so I don't think it's a router issue. Here are the things I have tried so far to resolve this issue, but none have worked:
Uninstalling the Broadcom Network Adapter driver, restarting the computer, and reinstalling
Repairing the Windows Support Software with the Bootcamp 5.0.5033 Support Software Update downloaded from www.apple.com
Uninstalling the Broadcom Network Adapter driver, restarting the computer, and reinstalling the driver from Bootcamp 5.0.5033

  • WRT54G Wireless Router connection problem

I recently connected a Linksys WRT54G to one notebook computer, with a wired connection. This computer uses the Vista Home Basic operating system.  I have another computer using Windows XP Home which I connect to the Internet through this Notebook through my wireless router.  However since replacing my D-Link 11 mbps router with the Linksys Router,  My second computer does not locate my new connection.  I suspect that it has something to do with the settings on the second computer, but can't figure out how to resolve this problem.  Hopefully some of you experts out there can tell me how to deal with this.

Click on the Start button >>> go to RUN>> type in "services.msc" >>
click on OK- On the Services Local page double click on the
option "Wireless Zero configuration"- Here the Startup Type should
be "Automatic"- Click on the "Start" button and "Apply" the settings
    and OK.
    Deleting Preferred Network
Click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>>Network
Connections >>Here right click on the "Wireless Network Connection"
icon and select Properties- Click on the "Wireless Network" tab- Make
sure that ""Use windows to configure my wireless network settings"" is
checked- In the "Preferred Networks" box select each network name and
click on "Remove" to make it empty- Click on OK.
**Click on the "Advanced" button(below the Preferred Networks) and
    make
sure "Access point(infrastructure) networks only" is selected- And
    also
make sure that "Automatically connect to non-preferred networks"
    should
be unchecked >> click on "Close" and click on OK on main properties
    window.
    Connecting to Wireless Network (WLAN)
Click on the Start button >>> Control Panel >>> Network Connections-
Right click on the "Wireless Network Connection" icon and select "View
Available Wireless Networks"- If you see your wireless network in the
list, highlight it by 'single' clicking on it- Now click on
the 'Connect' button below- If your wireless network is secured, it
would ask you to provide the network key- Provide the wireless network
key and confirm it again in the confirmation box and
click "Connect" & you should be able to go Online Wirelessly!!!

  • Unable to locate server even though wireless is connected.

    Greetings All
I've been having an odd issue with my wrt54G.   My wife and I have 2 laptops wirelessly connected to the router (win xp media certer ver and win xp home ver).
In addition we have 3 win 98 boxes and 1 notebook using xp tablet edition all of which use ethernet.
Periodically both of our notebooks that are wirelessly connected will periodically give an "unable to locate server" message when when using IE6.  I tried Firefox also to attempt to narrow it down and the same problem is present.  Oddly though both notebooks still have our wireless signal connected.  I have proxy and both firewalls (xp and symantec) off on these 2 notebooks.  They connect using wpa-tkip with mac filtration off ssid broadcast off.   Usually we can cold boot our laptops and get reconnected again although sometimes it will happen again almost immediately.  I can't remember if we are able to browse network drives (using our wireless notebooks) when this happens.  None of our ethernet connected pc's have this problem when this is going on.
I have rebooted the cable modem and the wrt54g and this doesn't seem to matter.
My firmware version is v3.03.6, Jan. 6, 2005v3.03.6.
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

Okay the problem has resurfaced. When this is happening (no web access, no nntp access) I am still able to ping websites that I am unable to open in IE or Mozilla. Also I am still able to listen on streaming audio during these times of no web access. I am also unable to connect to my router's config page while this is happening.
While web access is being denied I am still able to connect to other pc's on my home network.
I'm beginning to think that there must be some kind of http, https and NNTP traffic during certain times but I cannot find anything obvious in my router's setting via the web tool.
This baffles me. I am inclined to to think it's something other than just http and nntp traffic that's being stopped. The reason I say this is because I have had to reboot again following and initial reboot that restored web access and then denied it again in just a matter minutes.
Maybe my router is croaking out?
    Thanks

  • Conflict with WRT160N and Windows Wireless Network Connection

I have a WRT160N router connected to a Verizon FIOS cable modem with five computers (all Windows based) wirelessly connected to the N router.  Four of the computers auto detect the N router connection when the computer starts up using Windows Wireless Network Connection and operate well.  One of the computers, which is the only one running Easylink for router configuration, will not connect through the Wireless Network Connection.  I have to use Easylink to manually connect.  The WNC gives a msg that Windows cannot configure this wireless connection and to configure the wireless connection using Wireless Zero Configuration service.  When I configure WZC correctly the WNC sees all available networks and allows me to select the Advanced Wireless checkbox to allow Windows to connect to the wireless network.  However, when I reboot the computer none of the configuration parameters are saved and I am back to manually connecting using Easylink and going through the entire process again.   Any suggestions?    Thx

Uninstall the EasyLink and connect manually. I think EasyLink 3.0 or later is coming soon ..

  • Wireless non-cisco router with aironet 1242 repeater.

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie here. I just started learning about cisco devices. Sorry if my question seems stupid.
I have a problem. A friend gave me an AP aironet 1242 and he wants to use it as a repeater for his wireless non cisco router.
Is this possible? And if it is how can i do it with simple steps.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick response Scott. I 've read this quide before i post.
The problem is that i can't connect with serial to the ap. So i can't use commands.
I can connect with ethernet and see the ap interface. When i go and make the radio0 work as a repeater it shows interface down. What i want is simple steps of how to configure it from the interface.
    Sorry again.

  • Solved. Travel router WTR54GS sharing one wireless hotspot connection with multiple devices

Hi, Passing on info I've learned.
The manual for the WTR54GS mentions being able to "...use multiple devices on a single hotspot account in a coffee shop or airport lounge...". See my original posting, "How to set up a wireless private bubble at paid hotspot? WTR54GS?", which ended in a dead end. I subsequently had a Linksys live chat session and the representative provided the solution. Perhaps worthy to be included in the Wireless FAQ?
Situation: you have access to a paid hotspot (hotel room, meeting room, etc.) and you want to share the connection with several devices, also wirelessly.
Solution: the WTR54GS can accept an incoming Internet connection wirelessely and re-broadcast that connection to form your own private bubble or network. (Note the WTR54GS can also accept an incoming Internet connection via Ethernet cable).
Linksys Live Chat pointed me to these web pages.
Go to the Linksys Easy Answers page: For a schematic of the concept of "associating the travel router to a hotspot (wirelessly)" search for Easy Answer ID# 4831
    URL for above is http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4831&p_created=1167963305&p_sid=GmLnq3Zi&p_accessibility=0&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NjImcF9wcm9kcz0wJnBfY2F0cz0xNzIxLDE3MjMmcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0yLjE3MjMmcF9zY2ZfbGFuZz0xJnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9V1RSNTRHUw**&p_li=&p_topview=1
There is a "configuration simulator" that shows the options for selecting a wired or wireless incoming Internet Type.
    http://linksys.com/ui/files/WTR54GS/1.0_15/Setup-Wireless.htm
The hotspot has to be "open", that is transmitting an SSID and with no WEP or WPA key. It may have a log-in page accessible via a web browser, this is okay as this will be passed onto the connected device.
My personal application is to be able to connect a PDA that has a 801.2b wifi to a 801.2g wireless network. I haven't tried it but if this works, it will extend the useful life of my PDA in a "g" environment. Will report back once I find a "g" only environment. Comments?

There are two conditions which must be met in order to use your WTR54GS to "extend" an incoming, wireless internet connection:
    The incoming connection must be unsecured.  You have already covered this point;
The security settings on your WTR54GS can only be set to "WEP," or to "Disabled."  If you choose "WEP," then you can use either a 40/64-bit, or a 128-bit key.
If those two conditions have been met, then it works fine -- says the guy who is sharing one paid internet conneciton in his hotel amongst three devices, and with co-workers in nearby rooms.

  • WRT54GS WIreless not connected, yet connected

My WRT54GS wireless connections wont go through, as it clearly says, Not Connected, yet my network connections will show that I am connected to the internet and indeed, I can browse the web. My biggest problem with this is that eventually (around 10 minutes or so) it will disconnect from the internet, which is a problem since i play online games. Anyone ever had this happen?

under the network connections , what all connections do you see....ensure that any other connection except for the wireless network connection is disabled..
the only medium of connection should be the wireless network connection... check this and let me know if more help need on this issue ...

  • ITunes 8.1 works great but killed wireless internet connection

I installed version 8.1 on both my laptop( PowerBook g4/ OS 10.4.11) and desktop (imac intel / OS 10.5) and after restarting the computer, the wireless internet connection stopped working on both.
I would open Safari and it would be a blank page and and the circle would keep spinning.
So I tried my laptop at a different wireless hotspot and had the same result.
I then tried repairing permissions and I got a list of problems with iTunes/Network Utilities, they repaired and now when I open Safari I get the message that it can not connect to the internet.
I do get an internet connection using ethernet on both.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Did you by any chance also update the firmware on your Apple Airport Extreme (if that's what you have)?
I thought 8.1 killed my connection to my Apple TV, but it was the faulty firmware (see reports elsewhere in these forums).
Now that I have rolled back from 7.4.1 on my Airport I plan to try iTunes again (with white knuckles).

  • Netsh does not work to set IP address of "Wireless Network Connection"

    On Windows 7 Professional
This set of commands work for configuring the "Local Area Connection"
netsh interface ip set address name="local area connection" static 74.94.87.157 255.255.255.248 74.94.87.158 1
netsh interface ip set dns name="local area connection" static 8.8.8.8
netsh interface ip add dns name="local area connection" 68.87.77.130 index=2
BUT for the WiFi connection, this command errors with this message "ELEMENT NOT FOUND"
netsh interface ip set address name="Wireless Network Connection" static 74.94.87.157 255.255.255.248 74.94.87.158 1
BUT the 2 following dns commands DO work for the Wifi Connection.
netsh interface ip set dns name="Wireless Network Connection" static 8.8.8.8
netsh interface ip add dns name="Wireless Network Connection" 68.87.77.130 index=2

    I FOUND A SOLUTION
I manually renamed the interface from "Wireless Network Connection" to "Wifi"
Then when I use "WiFi" in the command line, I no longer get the
    ELEMENT NOT FOUND error.
I have no idea why renaming the interface works . . as shown on original post above, "set dns name" command worked without the name change, but the "IP set Address" did not work.
Anybody know what this is about ?

  • IMAC Wireless Internet Connection Problems All Of A Sudden

My Imac is well over a year and a bit old and has been able to connect to my wireless internet connection absolutely fine until the past week and a half. At first the connection wouldn't work and when I would turn my airport on and off and reset the router, it would eventually work, now that is not working at all. My airport status is either showing 'airport is turned on but is not connected to a network' or 'airport has a self-assigned ip address and may not be able to connect to the internet'
I have formatted my imac twice and still no avail and the last format I tried to join wirelessly straight from boot but it wouldn't join saying 'there is a problem with the wireless connection and you're not connected to the internet.' the annoying thing is I can see the network sitting there and can't join it, my network is also unsecure so no need to input a password. All my home PC's and my Iphone and Blackberry find the network easily enough, although recently the Iphone has began showing only 1 bar of wifi connection.
I am at my wits end as I am unable to connect at all now, I am all out of ideas and have been bashing my head off a wall for the past day without any connection at all.
My router is a buffalo AirStation wireless G high power model, my IMAC is an intel core 2 duo 20", if you need anymore information of my hardware I will gladly provide it. I'm running MAC OSX Leopard 10.5, out the box as I've been unable to run any software updates as I can't connect to the internet.
Please, if anyone can shed any light at all on this issue I would definately try anything.
    Thanks in advance and regards.

Anytime you see a self-assigned IP address in your network prefs you know it surely is a problem
with your router configuration. Power down all equip ... make sure modem is off for at least 5 minutes
restart modem, restart iMac ... check your network pref on iMac and make sure it's not 169.x.x.x
If so you will need to recapture the settings from your ISP's modem to the Buffalo.
Always use a secure wireless connection (WEP, WPA, WPA2) or else the whole neighborhood will suck down your bandwidth the slow down what your paying for. I use Time Capsules or AEBS (Airport Extreme Base Stations) that allow you to stealth mode and lower signal output and make the device
as a "closed network" ... meaning no one else can see and tap into your WIFI home network!
802.11N is better than G. and especially when you can use dual bands 2.4 / 5GHz to stop various home interferences. The backup of Time Machine only makes life much easier also! Xtech

Help, my transmitter will not link to the box now that I have upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows8.1.
