Wireless not connecting to internet

I'm having a frustrating problem that I hope someone can help me solve. On 3 separate occasions, I have suddenly lost access to internet or e-mail using AirPort to access my home wireless network (using a D-Link router). It seems to happen after the network has gone down for some reason--after I reboot the router I can get onto the internet with other computers, just not the one using AirPort in MacOS 10.5.1. Apple's network diagnostics asks me for a WEP password to access the network, but I haven't set a password for the network. I am able to access the network using other devices (like my iPhone), and the internet works just fine on when I reboot this computer in Windows--it just won't work using the Mac OS. The computer tells me I am connected to the wireless network, but no internet. I am able to get the internet working again by using TimeLine to restore the system to its last working state, but that takes a couple of hours each time. Any suggestions?

I'm having a similar problem. I was successfully connected to the internet wirelessly through a Belkin router/modem. I'm having problems with an Airport Xpress that I'm trying to set up for Airtunes so plugged that into my laptop via ethernet.
Now, whenever I use Network diagnostics to try and connect the laptop it says "see administrator" and asks for a password (no password on the Belkin at the moment). My mates laptop can access the internet through my wireless network no problem. What has been changed on my laptop by plugging the Airport Express into in via ethernet? Running OSX10.5.2 on a MacBookPro
I notice that no-one has answered the original question. If someone could help here I'd appreciate it! Even a clue as to where to start looking would be good! Thanks.

I did try turning off the firewall, and reducing all the security levels to a minimum (under Control Panel>Internet Options). Also, I'm using a direct cable from my m/c to the Airport Extreme. But nothing helps. Due to the usage pattern in my family, using the MacBook for configuring the network is not optimal, hence my struggle to do it on my Windows desktop. But if that is the only way to go I suppose I'll have to.
Subsequent to posting my query, I discovered that Apple had not singled me out, and many others with a Win OS face this problem, too. I would have thought Apple would do a proper job of testing before putting up the Windows version of Airport Utlity on their site.

Wireless network monitor says I'm not connected to internet, but I am?

I have a WRT54G v6 and a WUSB54GC. I can connect to the inter just fine and for the most part the linksys wireless network monitor says I'm connected to the access point and internet. The problem is occasionally it will says that I'm connected to the access point but the internet when I really am and I can browse the web just fine. I get the not connected to internet msg for a few minutes then it just goes back to connected. Any ideas?

I think here the issue may be that the utility and the internet connection are not getting synchronised. The operating system on your computer is it win XP? If it is win xp, u can use the windows wireless software to manage to your wireless network. In order to use the windows wireless zero configuration, right click on the linksys icon at the bottom right hand corner of the task bar, select the option that says "use windows wireless ....".
The linksys icon will be grayed and windows will be managing the wireless network. Connect to your wireless network and you should be able to go online.

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

Apple TV does not connect to internet over the WiFi network

I recently bought an Apple TV and hooked it up to my Sony 46" HD LCD TV.
My desktop is an iMac running Mac OSX Leopard
I have created a WiFi network using the AirportExpress conected to an ADSL router.
The wireless network is working fine and I have access to internet through my iMac or other PC and Apple laptops.
Yesterday, I tried installing my new AppleTV following the little instruction book. My problem is that while the AppleTV detects my network (it shows up as the network) and on choosing this network connects to the network but gives a message that it has not connected to internet.
As a result while it synchronises with iTunes on my iMac, it fails to download from the internet directly. I am unable to upgrade to the latest version or play YouTube or images from my MobileMe account or log on directly to the iTune Store.
I have tried figuring out the problem but unable to do so. Thanks for your help.

I am having a similar (or identical) problem. I have a network running on my airport extreme. My imac and my girlfriend's laptop can connect to the internet without issue. The apple tv finds my network and reports that it connects, yet it doesn't seem to. I cannot access trailers or youtube, cannot update, and cannot play purchased content. I reset the apple TV, but that did not solve the problem. Should I reset the airport extreme?

I can connect to my wireless network via my laptop, but not to internet explorer. We have changed every setting imaginable and re-set the modem, router many times. We Ip configed, did ping tests, installed and re-installed the card in the laptop. Done all this 4 times with the tech support from Linksys. Finally, I realized it must the wireless router and/or modem configuration. (The laptop works on every other network in town except ours, and has not security settings enabled).

Anyone have problems with AOL high speed and linksys router? Has the high speed cable cord coming out of the wall, not ethernet or DSL.
We have changed the settings in http://192.168.1.1 till I am blue in the face. None of the channels worked, security didn't work, adding the ip address manually to the laptop didn't work. I am getting no error messages. Am trying to get this wireless modem working because I need it. Should have come to this forum first!

hi..if you want to uninstall the router...the only thing you need to do is hold the reset button down for 30 seconds...
i m a bit confused here as to why the ISP techs asked you to forward ports on the router...port forwarding is needed for a specific application or a device that is behind the router....
the mentioned ports are for AOL messenger ( AIM )....and has nothing to do with the modem...anyways , let us work out together on this issue...carry out the steps i mention and you can revert back with the results and your success rate...
1) connect the computer to the modem and check what ip address you have on the computer ??
2) go to start -> control panel -> network connections ->
let me know what other icons you have besides Local Area Connection and Wireless Network Connection..
3)connect the computer to the router and the router to the modem...
access the router using http://192.168.1.1 .. let the internet connection type be on DHCP....check the ip address on the status page of the router ui...
4) if it is 0.0.0.0 , go to setup tab and go to mac address clone subtab , enable it and hit clone..save the settings and do a power cycle...
5) check whether you have the ip address...if you have the same ip as coming off of the modem..u should be online and if still 0.0.0.0 , then select PPPoE for the internet connection type and enter the username and password...check whether the ip address comes up....if still negative, ensure that the modem is in bridge mode...
6)if the ip address comes up as 192.168.1.x , change the local ip add of the router to 192.168.2.1 and do a power cycle..

Iphone 5s not connected to internet?

Hello! My new iphone 5s worked fine for the first couple of weeks, but at the moment, it is not connecting to the internet except through wireless network- so if I am just out and about, and not connected to wifi, it will not connect to internet at all. Could anyone advise me of how to trouble shoot this? i have data roaming button switched on.

Try a Reset: Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons and don’t let go until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears (no data will be lost)

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Wifi handoff issue and "not connected to internet"

I have a house with a wireless router and a boathouse with a wireless repeater. DHCP from main router. When connected to "main", i can connect to internet to browse, mail etc. When I walk down to the pier, the stronger signal from the boathouse is not picked up, so I have to manually switch to the boathouse signal. Then when I try to browse, I get a pop up that says that safari is not connected to internet. Even though the wifi symbol is displayed, and in settings it indicates that I have switched to the new ssid. This never happened with my 3gs. Very annoying. Anyone experiencing this problem when they are in the proximity to 2 wifi signals?

Sofar I have found (off internet),
A)that if you go into sleep mode, the wifi shuts down or powers down.
B)sleep mode must be disabled in order for wifi to continue.
C)you can check this by going into wifi and seeing the iphone every 20 seconds or so looking.
D)as far as handoff ,I still not to sure but I think BOOTH units must overlap each other in order to handoff from 1 to the other.
Show much bs on the web that I have to filter the pages and there not enough time in the day to go thru it all.

Is the printer connected to a network? For any Internet functionality to be present on printers, the printer will need to have its own connection to the network. It sounds like the printer only has a USB connection.
On the printer, go to Setup>Network>Print Network Configuration Page.
Does it have an IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS servers listed (other than 0.0.0.0 or 169.254.X.X)? If so, then it is connected. If not, then go to Setup>Network>Wireless Setup Wizard to connect to the wireless network. This should get the printer connected provided there is a wireless network available.
What brand and model is the router (if one is present)?

Airport shows being connected but will not connect to internet

Airport will not connect to internet yet shows me as connected.
When and if I do get connected, I will loose the connection and unable to access the internet.
This has happened using several different wireless locations.
Please help as to what my settings should be or how to correct the problem

What debugging steps have you taken?
Connecting to your wireless network and connecting to the Internet are two different parts of the connection process.
If you open your Network preferences panel does it show you have an IP address of the form 169.x.x.x?

I have wireless in my home. I downloaded music from itunes, downloaded two free games. When I go to apps it states that I am not connected to internet, although I am plugged into the internet. I understand I have to enter my router number somewhere, but it isn't asking for it, simply saying I am not connected to internet. HELP

To connect to your WiFi network and the internet you must go to Settings > WiFi and in the "Choose a Network" section locate your network name in the list and touch it to connect. If your network has password protection you will be solicited at that point for the password.

Check your router settings and see if you have Wireless QoS (WMM) enabled? If so, diable it. This fixed my problems, and had the benefit of speeding up my wifi in the process.
