Wireless Outage in Columbus?

Is there a problem in the Columbus Ohio area?  None of my Verizon phone do more than turn on and either shut off or have a blank screen.  First thought was missed a bill payment, but I just checked and I haven't.  Any ideas?

  • Wireless outage

Has anyone seen anything from Verizon on the progress of the outage?

My wife was attempting to pull up the internet while I was driving past SLC last night and couldn't access.  I had issues myself pulling up today while here in American Fork, UT.
I tried pulling up a chat session with VZ and there was no on available (because I'm sure they are getting bombarded with people contacting them.)
I did finally get a chat and the rep I chatted with wouldn't confirm they were having issues, yet when I challenged her on it and explained that friends reported similar connectivity issues she said the best thing would be to open a ticket and she'd do that for me.
Now I just read an article on ksl.com confirming that it was a VZ issue, however, they are not being very forthright with accepting blame - I'm sure because they don't want to have to credit everone's accounts.  The rep I chatted with didn't even offer that, I'm sure they are being directed otherwise.
I know I sure do pay a lot of money each month being dependant on it being available for use, so a small gesture sure would have been appreciated.

  • Wireless outage in SE Michigan

    Horrible Service from Verizon lately

Verizon's support page doesn't list an email address, chat says it's full, and there are no landlines around me.  Verizon's wireless outage link goes to a propaganda page that hasn't been updated this week.

  • Wireless outage (IP only) for 5 minutes, every 15 minutes

    Hey everyone,
I recently moved to the UK from the US, and in the process gave up my Airport Base Station for the much less friendly BT Home Hub. Since doing so, I have been having some very annoying problems with the wireless connection that I did not have before.
Essentially, what happens is that I lose IP connectivity (cannot ping the gateway, or get to the internet), but the Airport menu icon/Network Connect reports I am still connected to the wireless network, and there is no change in reported signal strength. I took a look at it with iStumbler, and there is pretty much no difference in signal/noise or any other readouts when the dropout occurs - the "wireless network" appears to be up, I just don't have IP connectivity.
Turning the Airport card on and off restores connection, but doing this every 15 minutes is very annoying, of course. If I wait 5 minutes with no IP connectivity, it comes back, once again with no corresponding change in signal strength.
This may be a result of the change in wireless access points, but there are some things about my particular situation that makes me wonder if it might be something related to my PowerBook/Airport card. Firstly, while I was moving, I was housesitting for friends, using a wired ethernet connection, when I installed the Airport security update and iTunes 7, so my configuration has changed since the last time I knew it to work well (I have since upgraded to OS X 10.4.8 and iTunes 7.0.1 over my intermittent wireless connection, but I have had this problem since before doing so).
Secondly, and more importantly, I have noticed an incredibly regular pattern to the outages. Specifically, the times I mentioned above are pretty much exact and consistent. Since I started having the problem, I opened a terminal window and ran a continuous ping of the gateway, and my results are as follows:
Every 895-900 pings (i.e. seconds), there is an outage, which lasts for 296-297 pings/seconds. So, for example, there is an outage at icmp_seq=1025 (895 sec after the last outage), and the ping command then recieves its next response at icmp_seq=1321 (296 sec). There is then subsequently an outage at 2221 (900 sec after the last outage) which resumes at 2517 (296 sec), etc., etc.
What makes this especially interesting is that, as I mentioned above, if I turn the Airport card on and off I get connectivity back. The connection then lasts for 900 seconds from when I turned the card back on, not from the last outage. So the outage seems come specifically after 15 minutes of having the Airport card on and connected, rather than the WAP giving up the ghost every 15 minutes regardless of what's connected to it.
The WAP is running in 802.11g mode with WPA security using WPK encryption. The SSID is not being broadcast. This is a modification of the original BT Home Hub settings (64-bit WEP encryption? No thanks) but pretty similar to what I had on my Airport Base Station. The WAP's event log shows nothing out of the ordinary, and looking at the device during the outage doesn't really show any problems. If I plug into the wired port while I'm having one of these 5 minute outages, it works.
I have also tried changing the wireless channel it runs on, but this has no affect.
I don't have any other computers/devices in the flat so I can't test whether this outage is universal or specific to my computer, but I was wondering if anybody else has experienced a similar problem? Is there any way I could narrow it down more between the WAP and the PowerBook? The regularity of the outage, and the fact that IP gives out, but I don't get disconnected from the wireless network seems to two very tantalizing clues.
    Thanks,
    Andrew
    PowerBook G4 15-inch (FW800)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2GB RAM, 1.67 GHz G4

I am still having this problem and am starting to get really annoyed by it. Since my last posting, the following things have happened:
    1) Last Thursday, I turned my Powerbook on and experienced a full day of work at home with a consistent wireless connection. Nothing had changed in configuration on either the router or the Powerbook. Then, at night, I turned my computer off, turned it on Friday morning, and again experienced dropouts every 15 minutes, for 5 minutes exactly.
    2) By this time I had already called BT and complained, and they were kind enough to send me a new hub. I got it today, took the old one down and set it up (via ethernet cable) with the exact same settings as the old one, and then connected to it via wireless - I was able to connect successfully with no interruptions. Then, I shut my computer down to go out for a few hours. I am now back, and since booting my computer, I now once again only stay connected for 15 minutes at a time!
So, it now seems to be only 95% consistent, instead of 100% consistent, but I am really beginning to suspect my Powerbook, since it seems to be behaving differently on different boots! Please help? What can I do to isolate this problem? As I have demonstrated in my previous posts, I have already looked at iStumbler, etc. and am still having the same exact problems, even with new hardware!

  • Verizon Wireless Outages in the DFW area following Electrical Storm

Verizon Wireless, the so-called "Big Red" cellular provider, seems to be picking up its own red phone lately.
Verizon Wireless customers around the DFW area are reporting widespread outages of the company's newer, faster 4G wireless service, as well as spotty performance of the older 3G service.
Complaints about both the 3G and 4G networks flooded in Thursday from all over the DFW Metroplex according to the store employee at the local Verizon store.
“I sat up at the Verizon store this morning before the store opened @ 9:35am with no on in the parking lot and by 10:00am the entire parking lot was full with angry Verizon Wireless customers.” All were saying they haven’t had service since they woke up this morning. It was a scene of when a store has a big sale or major event…
    “I noticed the outages started around 9:00-9:30pm last night, 5/30/2012.” – kd5yov
Instead of staying around to see what’s going on, I left and figured out that I would come back on in a day or so... Can’t fix it if its broken and right now Verizon is stuck with its tail between their legs!

You are not the only one Neo. I consistantly get slow 4g LTE speeds in the DFW metroplex. Over the last month I've run several speed tests and come back with less than 2Mbps download. During the 12 o'clock lunch hour I have to switch to 3G just to get any data at all. I thought it might be my phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus) so I did a factory reset a while back which didn't help anything. Then I spoke with support on the phone who suggested I get a new SIM card at the local store. I did that, and it helped some. My speeds went up by changing the SIM card from less than 1Mbps to the less than 2Mbps I'm now recording. What I found interesting was that the rep at the store said that it would probably only get faster during non-peak hours. The reason speeds are so low on 4G LTE is because there are too many people using it for the infrastructure that is currently in place. That statement along with my continued dissatisfaction with the speeds I'm getting are making the competition look good. For any good it will do, I am mostly in zip codes 75248 and 75001.

  • Wireless outage in TN

Is there an outage TN, zip code 37354? Phones used to work great everywhere. Since the storms this past wed coverage is terrible.
    Thanks in advance.

A KUDO for Verizon here in Georgia. We were hit HARD Wednesday morning by straight line winds which took out many trees, lines and houses. Then in the evening beginning around 8:15pm we had tornadoes heading our way, then no sooner that warning was over, another was issued. Then around midnight another big line came through.
Many people are hurting and many lost everything, friends, and family. I LOVE storms and have never been scared to where I hunkered in a bathroom for what was coming.
My phone was used to watch live video from the TV stations as power went out in the AM and to watch the radar as evening storms approached. My families ATT phones would only connect for 5 seconds at a time. They are still waiting for full service to return.
    Awesome service!

  • Cell Outage in 23117

We have had a wireless outage in VA 23117 for approx 18 hours now.   The down side to being in a rural area.. when there is an issue getting it fixed is slow and painful for customers.

  • Verizon Service Disruption

Does anyone know of any service disruption in Columbus, Ohio?  Before you ask, bill is paid in full.  Phone continues to say searching for service and if it does show 3G with bars, I try to make a call, the bars disappear and it will not connect.  Sent email to customer service but does anyone know of any issues?

    Great suggestions Gerio!
I understand how frustrating it is getting no signal on your device. I would be glad to look into this for you. There are no known outages in Columbus, Oh at this time for Verizon Wireless. Did any of Gerio's suggestions work for you? When did  this start happening? Is is only at one location? If other devices are working and your is not we may need to further troubleshoot to determine what caused this issue. Please PM me and I will be glad to look at your account and further investigate.
    Thank you

  • WLC upgrade

hi! I'm planning to upgrade my WLC5500 from version 7.0.x to 7.6.x.
I've 2 WLCs with one served as a Primary and the other one as a Backup Unit. Currently all the APs are associated to the Primary Unit. The APs will only fall back to the backup WLC when the Primary unit failed.
    My question would be:
    1) Can I upgrade the Backup unit first, and move a few APs to the backup unit to make sure everything is working before I upgrade the Primary unit?
    Will that plan work fine?
    2) If my WLC is out of maintenance contract, can I still do this upgrade? Does it work like those VMware licensing, whereby I need the license to go from 4.x to 5.x?
    Thanks.

    1) Can I upgrade the Backup unit first, and move a few APs to the backup unit to make sure everything is working before I upgrade the Primary unit?
I've got a better idea for you.
    1.  Upload the new firmware to the two controllers.  DO NOT REBOOT the primary controllers when you are prompted.  You can reload the secondary controller.
    2.  Save the configuration.
    3.  On the WLC with all the APs, go to Wireless > Access Points > Global Configuration.  Scroll down to the bottom under the heading  "AP Image Pre-Download" and choose "Download Primary".
    4.  Go Monitor > All APs and click Details and scroll to the right-hand.  Look under "Download Status".  Wait until all the APs have their respective "Download Status" to DONE and then you reload the primary WLC.
What will happen is the APs will be loaded with the new IOS.  So the APs and WLC will reload simultaneously and cut your wireless outage to a bare minimum.

  • Choppy/skipping flash video

I have a late 2011 iMac (21.5") that has worked pretty well since purchase in November, 2011. However recently I started to experience severe lagging and even major skipping when viewing Flash video content on a number of different sites. The behavior exists in both Firefox and Safari, and I've tried a clean install of Flash twice now with no improvement. I also upgraded my router to address intermittent wireless outages that I thought were contributing to the video performance issues. I was previously using an old Airport Express, and purchased a new Airport Extreme. That improved my wireless performance dramatically. Constant signal drops disappeared, and my speedtest.net speed went from all over the map with an average of 5Mbps to a smooth steady 50Mbps almost every time. However the video issues have persisted. Yesterday I downloaded temperature monitor to see if overheating was an issue. Here are my readings after about 40 minutes of running flash content:
I just purchased an APC UPS (something I've been meaning to do anyway) but I'm doubtful power fluctuations are the culprit. I'll try plugging directly into the router of course, to see if somehow flash content is causing some wifi signal variance that speedtest doesn't pick up. But I'm beginning to worry that my GPU is the real issue here. Anyone have a similar issue or any other ideas? I do still have Apple Care so if it's a hardware issue I do believe I can have it replaced at no cost.

Well this is funny. After all my troubleshooting and research, last night my flash video was smooth as butter and crystal clear. What changed? I have a feeling it was related to this:
    http://www.businessinsider.com/timewarner-down-2014-8
I think even though Speedtest was showing a constant download speed of 50Mpbs it was masking an ISP issue that was resolved after the national outage. Glad that happened before I dropped $180 on a RAM upgrade.

  • Could not Activate EDGE after 1.1.1 update

I now receive the message - "Could not Active EDGE network" after the 1.1.1. Also, it gave a message that Data Roaming was turned off. I turn that on but I still receive the EDGE network message.

someone just posted this on MR...
AT&T Regional Outage in Chicago Area - No Call, No SMS, No EDGE
Sometime this morning (Friday 09/28) AT&T Wireless had a regional network outage in the Chicago area. I do not have exact numbers but the affected number of subscribers is somewhere in the 4-6+ million range.
Incoming calls, Outgoing calls, SMS, and any EDGE access are offline. Even 911 emergency calls have failed unless you have a strong enough signal from the T-mobile network. AT&T has said they opened and escalated a ticket #TT000005378956 and said engineers are working on the problem.
From what I can tell, I've had no service going on 2+ hours now, man this *****.
Although this isn't iPhone specific news, it is at least the largest wireless outage within the US that I am aware of, second only to the cell-network overloads experienced in the wake of 9/11...
It appears that even if the latest update didn't 'brick' your iPhone, AT&T will shut it down for you!
I'm hoping this is what my problem is...

  • How Rept Outage On Wireless?

I'm in Alexandria, VA have have been unable to make any calls for two days.  Verizon may say there is some problem from major storms, but I really don't care about their excuses.
Can't find any outage maps for wireless on Verizon's site. Can't find any way to report inability to make calls except for email, which we all know is worthless.  Suggestions?

And considering the 100mph+ winds from the Derichio, I suspect that IS the issue. Virginia's Governor stated it is the largest non hurricane power outage in history.
Unlike hurricanes, when there is a week or more to prepare, there was maybe 3 hrs of notice of this storm rolling through.

  • Weak Wireless Signal After Power Outage - Anyone else??

We had a storm Sunday 7/25 and lost power, now my Verizon Fios router's wireless signal is extremely weak and I can't connect to it unless I'm in the same room with the router. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I've had no luck with troubleshooting tools and calling Verizon (why are they so confused and lost all the time). The wireless adapter works fine, but the signal is so weak it can't be connected to. HELP!!

I had EXACTLY the same problem, and I am in Maryland (same storm, I bet). I just cured the slowness. Here's how.
The instructions on the Verizon website for rebooting your router do not include "Unscrew the coaxial cable." You have to do that, as well as turn off the power. The Verizon guy I talked to tonight said you get a "better reset." I kept my router powered off and unscrewed for a while--a good couple of minutes at the minimum. Then, when I screwed the coaxial cable back in and powered back up, I had full-strength connectivity.
    Good luck, fellow Marylander.
