Wireless password and keychain

I am having a huge problem with keeping my clients connected to the wireless network. After a few days the wireless shows they are connected to the network, however the internet will no longer work. I have to go into their keychain and remove the key and then rejoin to the wireless.
Any help would be great, Thank you

Hello,
What version of OS are your clients running. If it is 10.4.8 you may need to go into system prefs -> network -> airport and delete the trusted network and then add it again. Also what kind of access point are you trying to connect to? If it is an Airport Extreme what version of the firmware is it running? If it is an Airport and it is running 5.7 try going back to 5.5.1.
Best of luck!

  • Entered wrong wireless password and don't know how to change it

I recently switched to a Macbook Pro from a PC and attempted to connect to my 2Wire home wireless network on it. Unfortunately, I entered the password wrong on the secured network, and now the computer regularly tries to connect automatically to the internet with this incorrect password that it has saved, and I have NO idea how to get in there and change it. I have tried all I can think of with my limited knowledge of Macs. It will not connect to the internet, therefore, on my home network but does work on other networks.
Can someone please tell me where to go/how to access the saved password so I can delete it and change it? Also, whenever I click on the assistance button it always asks me whether I have a DHCP or PPPoE connection...and I have no idea what this means. The DHCP option leads me to the point where it says I cannot be assisted, and the PPPoE option takes me to a page where it asks for the network name and password, but when I enter it correctly it gives me no indication of the result of typing it in...it just reroutes me back to the page that asks me to choose between PPPoE and DHCP. A.K.A. it is NO help at all.
And I don't understand what it means when it asks me to "save password in keychain." What is a keychain??? I'm a Mac idiot. I can troubleshoot all this stuff with a PC but am completely lost with my new Mac.
    Thanks-

Keychain access is in the Utilities folder in Applications. The network password is in the "System" section. Unlock the chain, select the item corresponding to your network and click the "-" button. Then go back and set up the connection again.

  • How to change password and keychain?

I want to change one user's password (with the GUI):
    <pre> System Preferences...
    Accounts
    choose the right one
    Reset Password...</pre>
And I see a warning window telling me:
<pre>Resetting the account password does not reset
    the user's keychain password.
To reset the keychain password, use Keychain Access, located
    in the Utilities folder.</pre>
This let me discover 2 problems:
    - How may I change the user's password and the user's
    keychain password... together?
I want to keep them to the same string and the same
    managment policy (frequency of change).
    - I've tried with one account the method suggested (use
Keychain Access). Unfortunately I don't see how I may
change the keychain password, because every time I try
to change it, it does first ask me to type it:
    <pre>Current Password:</pre>.
How should one change a keychain password without the
previous one (when the original password can't be used)?
    MacOS X version : 10.4.7
    Keychain Access : 3.3

Try going to the users home folder --> library --> preferences and delete the "com.apple.keychainaccess.plist" preference file.
Also under users home folder --> library -->Keychains delete the "login.keychain" file

  • Problems with logging in, passwords and keychains

    Hi everyone.
I've had my iMac since November 2011 and have never really had any problems.  But in the last couple of days I've been having some serious issues with passwrods and keychains.  I'm not very techy, so I'll just go through step by step...
Normally when I switch on my computer it comes up to the User accounts screen.  I click on my account, type my password in and it logs me in.  For some reason now (it's literally just changed over night) when I switch on my computer, it diverts from typing in a password and logs in straight away.  Weird, but no big issue.
But now my Mail keeps asking me to type in my keychain password for my updates.  I've only had 1 password the entire time I've used my iMac and it doesn't accept it at all now.  Starting to get annoying now.
And finally, and the most worrying for me, is I generally put my iMac to sleep over night rather than switch it off completely.  But when I try to log back in now, it won't accept my password at all, locking me out of the system.  Sometimes it goes to a black screen as if it's about to log my back, but it doesn't.  So to get by this I have to unplug my iMac from the socket and switch it back on again just so I can get back in.  This worries me as I do a lot of digital art work and I don't want any files being corrupted or damaged.
I've tried runnning the disk reparirs through Utilities, but I'm not sure how to tackle this.
Has this happened to anyone else?  And do you know a solution?
    Thanks,
    Dave

OK, I've managed to top up now. No idea why it didn't work the first time. I've also tried to port my number again and it said that it was successful, but it said that last time too. Another question: apparently I've been given a "pack", but I don't think that is good for me because I won't actually be using the number, so I don't want to be paying every week. The website says "If you don't want a pack any more, you can simply remove it." But I can't see any option for doing this. Where should I be looking? Thanks

  • Mail password and keychain

Trying to get a new imac set up properly.
In Mail, my inbox has an exclamation point next to it. When I click to get new mail, every time a message shows that i need to enter the password for my account. I enter it, then click the box to remember this password in the keychain. But it is blank the next time i try to access my mail.
In keychain, I  see  a password entry for this same mail account. When i open it, it tells me it is an internet password. the password itself is blank. and when i click  on "show password" it tells me "access to this item is restricted". I ran the "repair keychain utility, but it doesn't change anything.
Anyway, i don't know if or how these two things are related. But I can't get my mail until I can enter the correct password and have Mail able to access this password.

Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Window Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.

  • Yahoo password and Keychain

    Hi guys,
I recently realised that I forgot the yahoo password and the secret question as well.
I already tried to recover my account by using a few methods - without success.
Anyway, I've found a strange code in Keychain but I don't know how to use it.
Does any one know how can I get my real password out of that hieroglyph?
    Regards,
    Adrian

    Thanks Carolyn,
but there is another problem that I can't manage to solve. As you well know, you can not see the real user's password, because it looks like the password is encrypted:
    AAjmgU9VnrBQL3_OzhCjzxaYahfSXG7bQZ4vyXQeKqSYXsnwKjtE8Q--
Is there any way to decrypt it?
By the way -  based on your experience, do you know if there is place where the yahoo password could be stored on mac?
    Best,

  • Facebook password and keychain

I set up the default password suggested by apple for Facebook on my iMac and clicked the keychain thing.
I didn't take a note of what it was so now I can't access Facebook from my iPhone.
Do I have to set up a completely new password (and remember it this time)?
I assumed keychain would automatically fill in my password on all apple devices.

I am having a similar problem: I only had my facebook account set up in "Internet Accounts" in System Preferences and I recently removed it so that I have zero Facebook accounts linked to my OSX system. I still get Facebook notifications in the notifications center, though, even though there is no account listed at all.
    I am on Mac OS 10.9 (13A603)

  • After restoring iPhone 4S, Login password and Keychain password not working!!

    Hey!
So last night my Girlfriend restored her iPhone 4S running iOS 7 as new to fix a battery issue she was experiencing. Before doing this she went through and backed up her photos using iPhoto. She then restored the iPhone as new and when it had completed attempted to login to the mac as it had locked itself due to inactivity. Unfortunately she wasn't able to login and waited until I got home so I could try the password.. When I did get home I tried to login using the password but it didn't work. At that point I realised something had gone wrong so I tried all of my other passwords I had previously used with the mac as well as my Apple ID. None of them worked. At this point I booted to the Recovery 10.8.2 Partition and reset the password using the Password Reset Utility.
I then logged in and attempted to update the Keychain Password (This was the default "Login" keychain so it should be the same password as the Users password.). It didn't accept it so I went through and created a new Keychain to test if Keychain Access Application was working. It accepted the new keychain and I could operate the Application as if nothing was wrong (There was something wrong though, all of my passwords for many websites were stored in this keychain). I then removed the reference to the keychain and moved the keychain file from ~/Keychain folder to the desktop. I then reimported the Keychain and it still did not accept the password.
I called AppleCare to get a second opinion and spoke with a Senior Advisor who told me to just start a new one. I don't mind starting a new Keychain as I know the passwords for the main websites I browse, HOWEVER, I'd like to see if anyone knows what may have happened so I can perhaps prevent this from happening again.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nathan Freeman

    Tlix!
Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I'm quite aware that the restore of an iPhone should not have impacted the login password/keychain password. This thought has been further concreted after consulting a few of my Apple Fanboy buddies who are fairly experienced in troubleshooting issues relating to Mac computers. In regards to try a blank password, I've actually had the exact same thought and will be trying this tonight. I'll be sure to post the results of this to let you know what happens.
Unfortunately I haven't gotten round to making a TM backup of my device, primarily due to my current lack of an external HDD.
    Thanks,
    Nathan Freeman

  • Email Password and Keychain issue

I recently changed my password with my provider (AT&T). I then went to my iMac, iTouch, and my wife's iPad to reset the password on those devices. On all three devices, after the changes I was able to receive mail; on the iMac, on my first attempts to send mail I was prompted for a new password (which worked). At first I didn't click "save in keychain" and soon discovered that I had to do this to avoid getting prompted every time. After clicking this option I was able to send out several test emails without first being prompted...I thought my problem was solved. I closed the mail app. Then I went to my iTouch, which again could receive but not send email, hoping to find a similar function (keychain) so that I could get that to work; I didn't find anything, so I'm still dead in the water sending emails from the iTouch. So....I went back to the iMac (~15 mins later), and immediately after starting up the mail app, I was prompted for my password, which I suspect it needed to go out to my provider's server to download new messages. It won't take the password; I just keep getting the prompt, whether or not I click "save in keychain." If I cancel out of this and try to create and send an email, the same thing happens, so now I'm dead in the water sending and receiving with the iMac. What could possibly have happened in that 15 minutes?  Any help would be greatly appreciated! (I have yet to do much more with the iPad).

Tried rebuilding the account on my iTouch first. The settings are all very well documented but I'm still unable to connect to my AT&T account. And due the rebuild all of my saved email is gone. So, for the moment, I have no plans to rebuild my account on the iMac since I'd rather not go through the pain of losing the long history of email on that machine. For what it's worth, the iMac account was able to connect briefly again yesterday evening, but then it stopped. Why so erratic? Why is something as simple as changing an email causing all my Apple devices to belly up with email? Makes absolutely no sense.

  • WPA2 Password and Keychain

Should I let Keychain store that password? Not worried about physical snooping, just the other kind. How much risk, if any?

Depending on how good your Password is, it's pretty secure on your Mac since about 2 or 3 security updates ago where they upped the bits of encryption for storing it.
Since WPA2 can be up to 63 ASCII or 64 HEX characters and a random enough 20 character password is considered not quite breakable in any lifetime, you can choose your safety level.
The only real way to get it would be physical access to your Keychain & Keychain password.
To summarize, it's academic as to whether you store it in the Keychain, it's how long & how random it is.

  • Changing Password and Keychain

    Two related questions here.
    1. I am giving a Dual-USB iBook to a good friend. I will delete some software, M/S Office for example, which I cannot legally leave on the HD. I would like to just reset the Account Name, Short Name and Password, remove personal correspondence and let him have the machine.
Is it possible to reset the Account Name and Password? How?
Will that make an unholy mess of the Disk Permissions?
    2. What should I do about KeyChain? I have 84 Keychain items under LOGIN, 1 under SYSTEM and 88 under X509 Anchors.
    Darn, this is confusing.
    Many thanks,
    Bob

    Thanks trlblzr-
I was going to set up a new user account in my new DualCore G5 iMac anyway, to have it available for troubleshooting, so I went ahead and did so as a way of partially trying your suggestion.
So...went ahead and created a new account, checking the box for: Allow user to administer this computer.
With that new account still visible/highlighted in the Accounts window, I see there is a button for Reset Password.
When I am doing this for real with the G3, should I at this point indeed reset the password, then immediately hilight my old user account and hit the "minus" button just above the lock at the bottom of that window???
    Many thanks,
    Bob
