Wireless PC Cards and Macs?

Hi,
I recently purchased a Netgear DG834GT Wireless ADSL Router and Modem and with part of the package came a Netgear WG111T USB Adapter.
I successfully installed the modem/router to work wirelessly with my iMac G5 and airport extreme card, but am hoping to make use of the WG111T USB Adapter with my iBook G3 (running OSX 10.3).
Is this possible? I don't seem to be able to find the correct mac drivers anywhere for the WG111T. Am I wasting my time looking and should I buy an airport card for my iBook instead?
Thanks,

It does not appear that there are any Mac OS drivers for that device.
In general, USB wireless adapters should be the absolute last choice for a Mac. If you are going to use one, you need one that includes Mac OS drivers for the version of the Mac OS that you are using.
Also, since the iBook G3's USB port is USB 1.1 it makes no sense to get a 802.11g USB wireless adapter. USB 1.1 is 12 Mbps And therefore you will never use the extra bandwidth provided by the 54 Mbps 802.11g adapter.

  • Wireless MAXg Router and Mac OS X Leopard Problems

    Hi.
Before I upgraded to Leopard I was able to print through my Wireless MAXg Router. I had set up a connection using "Internet Printing Protocol using HTTP." The instructions from the router manufacturer are:
Select Advanced and select or enter the values shown below:
Device: Internet Printing Protocol using HTTP
Device Name: HP Deskjet 990c (example only, select your printer)
    Device URI: http://192.168.2.1:1631/printers/My_Printer
In Leopard, when I try to add the printer through the IP tab, I only can select "Internet Printing Protocol - IPP." When I click on "More printers" and hold the Alt/Option key, I am also not getting the "HTTP" option. I tried adding the printer using the IPP option, but the printer does not connect. Can anyone please help?? How can I add the HTTP option so that I can connect my printer??
    Thanks!

Thanks for the response. However, I am still having problems. I added the printer using the Advanced tab and entered the URL of the printer through the HTTP option. However, when I try to print something, it runs the driver, and ends up saying "connected" but nothing prints. The status still says "printing" and nothing happens.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!!

Sell the Mac and spend the money in building yourself a PC with the best components you can find. You will have much more freedom of choice when it comes to hardware, especially in this case where you need the fastest CUDA card you can get. With a PC you can use any Nvidia based card in the market, while with Macs you're restrained to just a few outdated and hugely overpriced ones.
Granted, Mac towers are very good machines, and the OS is great, but CS6 relies heavily on CUDA cards, and Macs have very few CUDA options. A PC that you build yourself from the best components can be less expensive, stable and more powerful.

  • PCI Card Slot - Wireless LAN Card Problems - Help!

    Help.
I'm having problems getting my board to recognize both:
Linksys WMP11 Wireless LAN card; and
    Netgear WG311T Wireless LAN card
(returned the Linksys card, but the Netgear card had the same problem).
Neither card is being picked up by Windows (XP Home), although both the "power" and "link" LED lights up when inserted.  I've tried every PCI slot, same issue.  Nothing shows up in the device manager, and no new hardware is detected.  The Netgear software tells me that the card has not been installed.
Am left thinking I need to RMA the board.  Any suggestions woudl be much appreciated.

My roommate has a similar setup as you and I am having the same problem getting a pci wifi card to work in the machine.  I have tried both a Linksys WMP54G and a Netgear WG311. Both cards will scan for networks bit will never connect my router (Linksys WRT54G). Just to get them to recognise the network, I have to turn off WEP, and turn on ESSID broadcast.  Both of these cards work prefect in other computers. I know it not a signal problem because I can take my laptop and set it in the same location and it gets excellent signal.
I have tried changing slots in the machine, the wifi cards were the only PCI cards in the machine and an GeForce 6800 GT in the AGP slot. I have no idea what the problem could be. But I'm leaning towards the mobo at this point.

  • Wireless Laptop Card

    Hi All,
I was recently given (for free) a Satellite Pro 4200 Series Laptop. Unfortunately, I've been told that I need to purchase a Wireless Laptop Card in order to connect to the internet. When I went to purchase the card I was told that I should find out first if my laptop is compatible with wireless laptop cards. I tried looking for an e-mail address from Toshiba Tech Service but I couldn't find one. I stumbled upon this messageboard and decided to ask here.
    What I'm wondering is:
Is the Satellite Pro 4300 Series compatible with Wireless Laptop Cards
    and
What brand is it compatible with? Belkin, D-Link etc.?
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me with this.

    Becky,
The issue is not so much brand but technology.  That is a ... shall we say 'vintage' machine and the means of adding accessories to laptops has moved on, so to speak.  The easiest way to connect that model to the internet would be a LAN card rather than a wireless card.  The detailed specs list a 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Cardbus card (part number 3CXFE575CT) as an accessory.  Unfortunately, those items have been discontinued as the PC Card technology has evolved.  It may still be possible to find a used part on eBay, Craig's List or at other online parts sources.  The good news is that if you find one, it won't be very expensive.   Another possibility would be a USB LAN or wireless card but the problem I fear you'll encounter is with device drivers.  That system shipped with either Windows 98 or Windows 2000 and drivers for those operating systems would be a problem for current hardware.  Toshiba doesn't have email support, only their 800 number but I have a suspicion that they wouldn't be too much help to you in this case.  You could possibly chat with a Premier Authorized Service Provider (click the 'repair' link above to see if there is one close to you) and see what they say but I would discourage spending much money on the situation.

  • Wireless Broadband Card

Have just tried connecting via a wireless broadband card and my powerbook G4 doesn't recognise it. Is there anything else I need to make this work?

    First, welcome to the discussions.
Your Powerbook G4 should have an Airport Extreme Wireless Card installed in it.
You mention you tried to connect via a Wireless Broadband card. If this is what you are refering to then go up to your Apple upper left and then choose System Preferences and then choose Network and if you are tring to connect Wireless you must have Airport with the little green dot and it should be dragged to the top of the list.
You can also check the signal strength icon just to the right of hepl in the Menu bar and single click it to make sure your Airport is on..
Depending on the type of connection you are using you may need a wireless Router connected to your Internet Service Providers Modem as well.
    Cheers Don

  • Satellite Pro 2100: wireless PCI card

Installing a Broadcom wireless PCI card and need to know where the aerial leads are routed (screen or base) so that I can try and extend them one is short by 1cm - oh and do the colours black and white correspond with main and aux?

Thanks for the wiring designation. Yes, I see that Tosh keep things close to their chest re disassembly of their machines however, if any techs or repair engineers out there pass by these boards then just tell me whether I should be looking in the lid or the base. Taking the lappy apart will be a doddle and I have no warranty period to worry about but don't want to start in the wrong section. Cheers.

  • Need Wireless lan card for L100-179

Hi guys can any one advise me where to buy a wireless lan card and any advise and installing one please

    Hello
In my opinion the first step is your local dealer where you have bought the unit. This unit is not known to me but I presume unit is WLAN ready and upgrade with mini PCI WLAN card is possible.
Other way to find out which WLAN card is compatible with your unit is to contact service partner in your country.

  • Power Mac G3 Pismo with Airport wireless card in Mac OS X 10.4 won't connect to wireless network  with  newest Airport Extreme Base Station set at WPA Personal/WPA 2 Personal encryption.

My Power Book G3 Pismo with an Airport wireless card  running Mac OS X 10.4.11 will not connect to my new Airport
Extreme Base Station using WPA Personal/WPA 2 Person encryption.  The Airport firmware is version 9.52.  From
posts I've read online at different places indicates the Airport card should support the WPA encryption.  Perhaps the problem
is the Base Station is using a combination setting and the fault is in the base station?
    Thanks for any suggestions

Perhaps an inexpensive usb wireless adapter would work as well?
This is probably the simplest way to get the G3 connected to the wireless network.
I'll have to read up on getting an express and using it as a wireless bridge as I am unfamiliar with the concept.
The new AirPort Extreme is broadcasting a wireless signal.
A new AirPort Express could be located close to the G3. The Express will pick up the wireless signal from the AirPort Extreme, then provide an Ethernet connection to the G3 though a short Ethernet cable.
This can work very well......IF.....you keep the G3 at a fixed location, since it will always be connected to the AriPort Express using an Ethernet cable.
I do have an old Linksys Wireless G router.  I wonder if that would work?
In theory, yes. But it would have to use much older WEP "security", which is easily cracked in minutes using free tools available on the Internet. So, anyone who really wanted to get on the network could do so. It's an option, but not a very good one.

  • Can I pick up wireless (card and antenna questions)

    Hello mac community,
I bought a June 2004 G5 (dual 2.5ghz) back in Aug of 2004 and at the time, I had the external antenna that came with it, but I have since lost it. I never used the computer for wireless, nor did I ever need to, and now I'm selling it but my buyers are asking if it's capable of wireless.
I don't know if it is without the antenna, nor do I know if the stock 2.5ghz G5 came with a wireless card in it. Does this mac need a card or would telling them to buy another antenna work? I looked at this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1305 to try to find where the card would be (in the front, under a fan, above the RAM slots right?) and didn't see a card in the slot that I know of, though I'm not good with computers.
So can this mac get wireless without a card, but with an antenna? Do I have to have a card? And did the G5 stock 2.5ghz have a card? I never removed the card if it did.
    Thanks guys

My answers assume you're referring to wireless internet, aka Airport Extreme, 802.11a/b/g/n. In any event, most of this applies to Bluetooth as well.
So can this mac get wireless without a card, but with an antenna?
    No.
Do I have to have a card?
Yes. And range will be very short (at best) without the antenna.
And did the G5 stock 2.5ghz have a card?
No. Airport and Bluetooth were both optional.
So, it's capable of wireless, but needs the card and antenna to do so. If someone doesn't want to use the official Apple Airport card and antenna ,available here (card) and here (antenna)). An external USB wireless dongle, such as this one can also be used. The USB dongles are generally the only way to support the fastest wireless connection, 802.11n.

  • Windows 7 driver for GeForce 320m Graphic Card and Broadcom wireless card

I just got my 11" MacAir (2011)and installed Windows 7 on it using Parallel software. Everything works fine except for the driver for the Broadcom BCM 43xx1.0 airport wireless card and for the GeForce 320m graphic card. Windows 7 cannot find the drivers. I have tried everything to find a solution: Downloaded the drivers from the Broadcom and NVIDIA websites, used the drivers that came with bootcamp and made changes to the nvao.inf file for the graphic card problems but nothing works. Does anyone know a solution to these problems? Many thanks.

    Hi,
since Parallels is not an Apple product it would be better to use their own Support resources.
However, Parallels does not use the native (real) hardware of your Mac but virtualizes certain hardware.
The video adapter is a "VGA and SVGA with VESA 3.0 compatible Video Adapter" and the WiFi is mapped to a "Ethernet Virtual network card compatible with RTL8029".
For these virtual devices Parallels brings all drivers with it and names them "Parallels Tools" which you have to install manually while in our Parallels Windows virtual machine.
Refer to the Parallels User Guide http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v6/docs/en/ParallelsDesktop_UsersGuide/
    Regards
    Stefan
