Wireless print routing

I have a network running a 2000 Advanced server with a 10.0.0.1 IP. The server provides print sharing for the network. I recently added a Linksys WRT54G Wireless router after the server to connect my new laptop. How do I get the laptop to connect to the printer? The laptop does connect to the internet. The router has a static IP to the server, and runs DHCP for the wireless. Can I get the router to simply act like a wireless switch?

Yes you can make it act like a switch. Change the Router LAN IP to say for example 10.0.0.11. Then disable it's DHCP capabilities. Then hardwire your server to into a LAN port on the router, not the Internet/WAN port as what is deemed normal. That should just make your router a switch acquiring the address from your server.

  • Wireless Printing with Airport Extreme?

I have a iMac(OS-X 10.3.9) and an Airport Extreme (white model) I wish to hook up my Epson USB printer to the Airport Extreme and use the Airport as a wireless printer router. It says I can now print from any Mac on my network using OS 10.2.3 or later. However, I have a windows XP (boo! Hiss! long story) on my network also. Can I use the Airport Extreme to print from my Windows wireless machine too and how do you set it up?

I Have a new wifi router and have set up my iPad / iPhone and wireless printer correctly  to the new router but I can't print from the iPad and iPhone. It keeps saying ' no AirPrint printer found'. Help please!

  • Wireless printing to Canon MX310 fails using D-Link Router - Can't Connect

I recently bought a D-Link wireless router (320), which supports wireless printing and I am trying to set it up to work with MBP. I set it up to run with Windows XP and it works fine with no problems, but with my MBP it won't work. Here is a screen shot showing the XP set up and the printer server info from the router (bottom).
    http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/1645/printerq.jpg
From this, I've been using the following information to add the printer,
    Protocol: HP Jetdirect - Socket
    Address: 192.168.0.1
    Queue: lp1
The printer shows up as idle in the printer selection menu. When I print it goes through the following messages,
    Connecting to Printer...
    Printer Online...
    Printing...
And then the queue clears itself as if it printed, but nothing ever comes out of the printer. At first I assumed it was a problem with the router, but when I tested it with Windows it doesn't have any hang-ups.
Any help would be appreciated with this, as I've read several posts and tried all recommendations but nothing will work. I'm also curious if I have the "Queue" in the printer dialogue right, or if it should be 9100. Thanks in advance!

Based on your Windows port configuration, your Mac printer queue configuration is reasonably correct. Although based on your Windows port configuration, you don't seem to require a queue name of lp1 - this would normally be required for LPD connections.
Your issue will be with the driver used. The Canon Mac drivers cannot be used when you have the printer connected to the USB port of a wireless router or print server (although the exception to this rule is an Airport device). When you have the printer connected via USB to a router or being shared by Windows, then you need to use a CUPS-based driver like Gutenprint or PrintFab (yes I know the Canon driver says CUPS but it is not true CUPS).
The Gutenprint tends to be the preferred driver because it is free, however your MX310 is not listed as a supported model so you would have to experiment with using a model that is supported and this can waste a lot of time and ink/paper.
PrintFab (www.printfab.net) costs 49 Euro but it does support your MX310. A trial version is also available so you could see if the printer does work before making a purchase.
One final note. For your Windows queue you don't need to add the colon 9100 after the IP address. The fact that you have selected RAW and have 9100 set for the Port Number is adequate.

  • Can not connect All in one 209b to new router for wireless printing....

Have an HP laptop and All in one priner 209b.  All was working fine, wired and wireless printing.  Then we had to upgrade our ATT Uverse router.  Everything works...even wireless laptop and printer when connected to laptop.  However, can't get printer to printer wireless since it has the old router info.  I used the disk but when it asks to you to pick the printer, I choose the printer but it says printer now found ??? what ???? and this is with the cable connected.  I do not have the wizard on the touch screen but I did reset to factory settings hoping it would load new router info but it does not.  How do you manually enter router into for wireless printing.  Is it best to delete the printer and reinstall as new...wired and then wireless ???

  • Installed a wireless canon Pixma MX432 printer back in November for use with my Mac Book Air. All was working normally until this past week when I began getting a message, "printer not connected." What is going on? Netgear Wireless N Router seems to be ok

My new canon Pixma MX432 printer is not printing. It was printing fine until about ten days ago. I use a Netgear Wireless N router, which is also new. What do I need to do. I get a message when trying to print that says "printer not connected." In addition, my old Gateway laptop will still print fine apparently because it has a cable connection to the printer. Puzzled!

Have you tried rebooting the router? I would unplug it, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in. Be sure you know the password etc. if that doesn't work, try unplugging and rebooting the printer. Good luck!

  • Just set up a new router, now I can't print to my wireless printer!

Hi, so I'm really frustrated with this situation since I installed OS X Mountain Lion. I have a Samsung SCX-4623FW wireless printer, connected it to our wifi network (router: D-Link N 300 DIR-632). So it's all good, the wireless light is on so I know it's connected. I even printed out a configuration report to find out the IP address. Now my problem is, when I try to add a printer to my MacBook Pro (13" Inch, Late 2011) using the IP address and the following information:
Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
Use: Samsung SCX-4623FW Series (from Select Print Software...)
It says: Unable to verify the printer on your network.
Unable to connect to '[printer ip address]' due to an error. Would you still like to create the printer?
And I hit continue in case the error doesn't affect the wireless installation of the printer, I tried to test print a page on the internet and the status message of the printer says: The printer is not responding.
So I reboot the computer, unplugged and reconnected the router AND modem and still nothing. I reset the settings on the printer, new IP address and everything. Still nothing. I can print via USB but I prefer wireless printing because there are 2 desktops, 2 laptops and multiple devices in the house and it's just not convenient.
Can anybody please help? I'm all out of ideas. Many thanks in advance.

Can any Macs in your home see the printer?
That is to say, is it just Mountain Lion that is having the problem?
What I'm wondering is if this is a router problem, or a Mountain Lion problem?  I'm trying eliminate as many variables as possible.
Do you happen to know if the Samsung printer supports Bonjour (eg. Zeroconf) network discovery protocols?  You could download "Bonjour Browser"
    <http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/13388/bonjour-browser>
to see if the Mac can see your printer via Bonjour protocols.
Since you know the IP address of your printer, you could download "WakeOnLan" which will display every IP address is sees on your network, and check to see if it is in the list generated by WakeOnLan (NOTE: I do not want to wake anything up, but WakeOnLan does a really good job of finding and displaying every IP address is sees on the local network).

  • Can't find wireless printer with E2000 router

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 (running Vista Home Premium) that connects to my Linksys E2000 and to a wireless printer, the Canon MX870.  It's been working for months without problems.
I just got a Toshiba Satellite P770-BT4G22 Laptop (running Window 7 Professional 64 bit) and installed the Cisco Connect software following the instructions where you have already set up the router and just need to install the software to do things like add a device.  I can connect to the router fine using a web browser or the Cisco Connect Software and my Toshiba connects to the Internet through the router without problems.
The problem is Cisco Connect says it can't find a wireless printer when I run it on my new Toshiba.  I've put the printer within 3 feet of the router with my Toshiba in between but still it can't find it.  My Dell in another room connects to the printer no problem.  And I can print to the Canon if I  select the Shared Canon Printer ( on the Dell) using the Toshiba's Control Panel Add Printer function.  But obviously that means the Dell has to be on so that's not good for much more than troubleshooting.  I've also wired a connection from the printer to the Toshiba and downloaded the latest driver, printed that way so I know that's not the problem.  The problem is that Cisco Connect can't find the printer.  It says there are 6 devices attached to my router so it's seeing something, but I guess not the printer.  I've turned any firewalls off for this testing too.
I'm stumped as to why it can't find the printer when the Dell did and they are all on the same network. Unless it's not compatible with 64 bit Windows.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have already added the printer to my network using Windows Add Printer prior to assigning the printer a static IP.  But I followed your instructions in making the IP static so if I reset the router I don't have to go through the process again.
When I ran CC and told it to add a printer, it did not identify any printer for me, it went from the screen where you say to add a printer to one where it asked me to name the printer.  Honestly, I wasn't even sure if it was referring to the Canon because I'd already added it using Windows, albeit without a static IP, just by knowing what IP it had been assigned.  After I gave it the name, it went back to the "home" screen with computers & devices, parental controls, etc.  No errors, but no real way to see or change what I had done.
That's why I was asking if there's a way to look at the router and view devices that have a static IP.  I can view the DHCP table but it's not there of course.  I don't really see anywhere using the router software (either by web connection or CC) where the Canon printer is listed.  I see it in Windows Printers, but I saw it there before I reran  CC and it asked me to name it.
I appreciate your help and I'm glad to be up and running with it.  Especially with having a static IP.  I'm just trying to better understand what happened and how to view my devices connected to the router.
Thank you very much for your help.

  • Wireless Computer, Wireless Router, Wireless Print Server

I am having difficulty with a specific configuration trying to print wirelessly.
I have no problem printing from my iBook G4, Power Mac Dual G4 750, Dell Notebook, or Compaq Presario Desktop using this configuration: Linksys Wireless-G router and Linksys Wireless-G Print Server.
As long as the Print Server is connected to the Router via an ethernet cable, the network works fine - I can print from any computer.
The problem I am encountering comes from the fact that I now want to use the Print Server with another printer that is a seperate room from the router (I don't want to connect it with an ethernet cable). This shouldn't be a problem since it's a wireless print server.
I had always used a static IP to access and configure the router, but now that I have removed the ethernet connection I can't log in. In fact, when it is plugged into a different port on the router (via ethernet) I can't log into it either. When I reconnect it the original way, it is not problem.
Running the original install software on my PCs doesn't help either.
How can I make this work?
Can my wireless computers (e.g. iBook with Airport Extreme wireless card) talk directly to the Print Server, or does it talk to the Print Server via the wireless router?
I don't have an Airport base.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I do not think I can help you with your question however I have the same router and print server and I too have never been able to get the print server to work wirelessly. It's a real kick in the head too because the linksys tech nubs just talk you around in a circle saying that the deivce is wireless but that you have to use the wire. I don't know maybe its me...
Nonetheless I now have a mac laptop that works the the router but I can not get the powerbook to connect the the print server. I would be interested to know how you go your mac to work with you first printer.

  • Can't use my HP Deskjet F4580 Wireless Printer with the AirPort Extreme Base. The printer is NOT connected at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme, and is placed in another room. It worked just fine with my previous router (Linksys WRT54G). Help me!

    Hey Guys!
I just got my AirPort Extreme Base, but I can't use my HP Deskjet F4580 wireless printer with it.
The printer is not connected to the AirPort Extreme's USB port. It is placed in another room, and I'd like to use it (the printer) wirelessly (not connected to the USB port os the AirPort Extreme), as I used to. There is no place for the printer close the AirPort Extreme. It worked just fine with my previous wireless router (Linksys WRT54G). I'm very disappointed with the AirPort Extreme Base Station because of that!...
    Can you help me? Please?!
    Thanks Folks!

This must be a tough one, no suggestions at all.

  • Wireless printing from a PC thru a D-link router thu a G5 to a wired Epson

Greetings and thanks to all that support the unsupportable! I have successfully created my first local network and actually got a HP laptop, G4 iMac and a G5 imac online to with a satellite modem. The G5 is connected via ethernet to the router and the G4's airport card has found the d-link DIR-615 and the HP which didn't have a network card goes online with the matching d-link USB N adapter.
My next goal is to get the HP to print on the Epson and I have deadended. I have gone into Directory Access on the G5, changing the name of the workgroup to the one on the HP...On the HP, I then tried any address I could think of for wireless printing on the HP's XP "wizard". It asks for an http://servers/printers/ myprinter.printer for internet, home or home office network....
Nowhere can I find these paths.
I even tried creating a new TCP/IP port on the HP but it asks for an http address too.
It seems like it should be so easy, since the internet works for all..
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

And how about Windows Sharing and Printer Sharing in Sharing Prefs? On?
There are at least 4 different protocols that will work printing from Windows to OS X. Windows sharing, IP printing > LPD, IP printing > IPP and Bonjour.
Go to Help > mac Help and search for Windows printer share, or printer share.

  • RV325 Router: Adding a wireless access point for wireless printer

    Hi all,
I am trying to add a Linksys ea6350 wireless router to the RV 325 router with the goal of having a wireless printer on the network. I can connect wirelessly to the router and access the internet; PC's that are on the wireless router can find the printer and print. However, PCs that connected to the RV via LAN cannot. I am assuming that this has to do with how the traffic from the wireless router is handled and that basically at the moment both routers are functioning as two separate networks.
Is this something that can be remedied from the Cisco router side? Or the Linksys? Or Both?
    Thank you

Hi Jow, it sounds like you have this EA router connecting through the WAN port going in to your RV router, that would make the most sense because it would NAT your connection, allowing you to wirelessly connect but your LAN connection to the RV325 not working.
If you want to fix this, move your connect from the EA router on to a "LAN port", disable the DHCP server then make sure it is on the same IP subnet as the RV325  and just let it broadcast the wireless signal. The EA router LAN ports are normal switch port so it will work ok.
