Wireless Print Win 98 and WRT54G

Trying to print with a Toshiba Laptop Windows 98 via a WRT54G to an HP deskjet 840c. Printer is wired to an Apple computer. I am able to print from the wired MAC, 2 wireless MACS but not wireless laptop. I am able to get on the internet with ALL of the computers. Any suggestions ?

There are drivers for the network card in the computer. I assume here that the computer is correctly installed and all hardware in the computer has working drivers installed. I don't remember exactly how it was on Win 98. On XP you have the device manager which shows which hardware is installed and operational. The network adapter must be listed there and O.K.
You could try to open a command prompt window on the windows 98 computer and enter "ipconfig /all". This command shows the network adapters and the IP configuration. You should see a local area network connection there. If there is nothing connected, there is no IP address assigned but still you should be able to see 0.0.0.0 or similar. If that is the case it highly suggests that the network card is working and all other networking/IP drivers are installed.
If not, you'll need the windows 98 cd to install them or for the adapter maybe a driver download from the manufacturer.
A static IP address should not be necessary unless there is an incompatibility between windows 98 and the router. That is certainly hard to predict. In general it should not happen. If an static IP address is necessary, you can assign one on the computer. You can use something like 192.168.1.10 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and gateway and DNS address 192.168.1.1 (assuming default settings on the Linksys).
But there is nothing directly related with the router which you would have to install or configure. You should not have to make any changes on the router. I would suggest you simply plug it in and see what happens. If it does not work, run "ipconfig /all" and post the full output of that command. You can try to set a static IP address on the computer as I have suggested to see if it makes any difference.

  • HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit and MacBook

    Hi,
I've bought the HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit to connect my printer at the wireless network. That printer is HP Color Laserjet CM1312 MFP. I've set the a static IP on the router settings and for the Windows PC, that are in my wireless network at my home, everything works well.
The problem is about the connection with the MacBook (10.6.8) because there aren't some driver or solution to obtain the access to that printer from a user that isn't on a windows.
Do you have some ideas to help me?
    Best,
    Matteo

    Hello Matteo,
Thanks for the post on the upgrade kit.  If you have not already, I might recommend posting this question to the link below.  Good Luck!

  • Printing to wireless printer hangs PC and does no print job is output from printer

    1) Hi I have the following configuration:
    - B110 all in one wireless HP device with a static IP
    - AMD 64 desktop running Window XP professional with the latest service packs and patches, also running Symantec Firewall and Antivirus and also a static IP address
    2) I can access using HTTP the printer from my desktop and perform a scan, inspect the printer ink levels and configuration all ok
    3) I have installed the printer drivers on the desktop and executed all tasks in the setup wizard, when the wizard checks communication with the printer some errors are detected that the some ports may be blocked so I:
    3.1) Uninstall the software
3.2) Reboot the PC and printer
    3.3) Disable Symantec firewall
    3.4) Disable windows firewall
3.5) Re-execute the installation of the HP software
3.6) The install completes with no errors
    4) When I attempt to print to the printer using any form of the following:
    4.1) Windows test print page
    4.2) HP test print page
    4.3) MS word document
    This occurs:
4A) The printer initalises and tranistions to a state of printing
    4B) The PC hangs
4C) The printer does not print anything
4D) The pc requires a hard reset to recover from this
    5) I have tried using both wireless and the ethernet port from the PC and each time the above in point 4 happens
    6) To test I have a dual core Intel laptop running the exact operating system as the desktop with identical Symantec firewall and Antivirus software that I have installed the printer software onto that works fine with no issues whatsoever.
    Any ideas please?

    Hi,
Did you try the HP priner diagnostic tool?
If your are running XP 64 bit then your printer is not supported.
Be sure to apply all of the updates that are listed.
The other thing to try is to completely remove all of the HP printer software. Now reinstall the software but instead configure and connect the PC using USB.  Does that work?
Please elaborate more on the ethernet connectivity.  I am a bit puzzled since none of the B110 printer have ethernet ports.

  • Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit and Laserjet P1006

    Hello,
I am just wondering if the HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit is compatible with the HP Laserjet P1006 printer. It is not listed on the compatibility list but I have read several accounts of people who claim to be using them together. I have also read posts that state they are not compatible. Either way, they will not work together for me so I am trying to figure out if it is something I am doing wrong in the setup or if the two pieces of hardware are simply not compatible. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,

P.S. I am using a Dell XPS M1310 Notebook with Vista.

  • Using Wireless printer 4500 series and prints dark from laptop but light when sent from a phone?

I am using a wireless  f4580 printer i believe and when I print from my laptop the item print dark but when I send items from my Iphone 4 to the print they print so light you can barely see them and I just replaced the ink so I know it isn't that. What am doing wrong or what do I need to do? thanks in advance.

Do you see any advanced options for managing print quality,  like "Economode printing" or changing print speed (draft, normal, best etc.) while printing from Iphone4?  If yes,  then choose options to give best print output.
If there are no options available while printing document, then you might need to see if you have same document or same document properties & contents (font - size, color, etc.) while printing from different computers.

  • Wireless printing w/Mac and PC

    Help!
I can print wirelessly over my AE using Rendezvous with no problem; however, I can't figure out how to adjust my system to allow a PC using Windows XP to wirelessly print over the same local network.
I did check the "Printer Sharing" in my Sharing Folder preferences... but to no avail. The PC setup wizard just does not "see" my HP Desktop 5100 during its search for printers.

  • Wireless Printing: for Mac and PC

I am running a home wireless network. The AEBS --> Linksys router --> Modem. In addition, there is an HP LaserJet 2100M attached to the router. So the problem is I need to be able to connect my Macs and my wife's PC to the printer. I have no problem with the Macs - they are running through AppleTalk. Using Printer Setup Utility the location shows up as "Local zone". I think the problem may be that the PC doesn't recognize "AppleTalk".
So the question is how can I get the Macs and PCs to both connect to the printer?
I have tried using HP LaserJet Utility (OS9 vers) to change the settings on the printer. When I try to assign a manual TCP/IP address to the printer it states that "valid IP addresses must be entered for manual configuration" (even though the address should be valid: 192.168.150.101 on my network). therefore, I have to use the "Automatically obtain TCP/IP config from the DHCP server". I have also downloaded the HP LaserJet Utility for OSX. This doesn't seem to do much, and doesn't include the same options as the OS9 version - as far as I can tell it just uses the Apple "printer setup utility".
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Thanks
    Rob

The PC does not have to use Appletalk to communicate with the printer. If Appletalk works with the printer, let the Macs use it. After all, if you never changed anything on the printer, but just used it out of the box, there is no reason why you need to change anything for the PC.
You should just set up the PC printing on the network as if the Macs were not there, using whatever protocol the printer and PC want. You are probably just having a problem configuring the printer interface on the PC. Be sure that you are trying to communicate with it through your network interface, not through the printer port, although that should work, too, if your PC is connected that way.

  • Wireless Printing from iPhone and iPad to HP D110

I can print to my HPD110 (wirelessly) at home but when I am not near to house router and have to use a hotspot it will not print to the D110.
Is there an App I need?

    Hi,
You can buy a printer which has an email address and you can send files (supported formats) to it email address to print. There are many ePrint printers from around $60 to few hundred. Just go to a store and have a look. The new Envy series (4500, 5530) printers are also cheap too.

  • Having problems wirelessly printer with Airport and my Epson CX400

I recently bought an Airport Express and an Epson CX400. The printer works fine plugged in via USB to my computer but it doesn't work when plugged into my Airport Express. The odd thing is that my computer recognizes the printer in Print & Fax, however in the Epson Print Utility it doesn't and when I go to print a page I get the error, "printer is offline." I've tried re-installing the drivers and just about everything Apple suggested. I Googled the issue and I didn't find anything helpful or up-to-date. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution? A response would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem with an Epson CX9400Fax. My printer setting says Location: Base Station eb8bbb. I've done all the updates I can find, talked to the friendly people at my local computer store. No help there. I just upgraded this computer from OS X 10.3 to 10.5.6. The printer worked wirelessly then. I have another iBookG4 that prints wirelessly just fine. So, what's up? Turtle

  • Office jet 6000 wireless printer ink usage and no support

I would like to know if anyone else has this problem with their printer.
I print in 98% of my work in black ink.  My settings are on fast draft, black ink only, yet my colored ink is running out, fast.  How could this be?   I have the XL cartridges (700 pages, so the box says) and they look to be the exact same size as the regular (300 pages).   I just replaced the 3 colored ink cartridges a couple of months ago, printed no more than 20 pages with a little color (mainly blue and gray), then all of a sudden, my printer say's I'm out of all the colored ink and it wont print at all.  I can take the cartridges, run some paper under the ink holes and get ink all over it.  And when i call hp, they tell me that it uses the colored ink even though I'm printing in black.  How?  They tell me to buy another cartridge and keep track of how much in color i print.  Hellooooo.. I've told them how much I'm printing in color.  They also tell me that i need to pay for tech help because my printer is no longer in warranty.  (18 months old).  I've called about this twice and they give me the same answer.  Printing in black still uses colored ink.
the last person i talked to, last night, said it may even be a problem with the mechanic part of the printer, which is covered.  Well, if its covered then why cant i get another answer besides "buy more ink".
does anyone else have this issue?  What do you do to solve it?
Consumer Reports listed this printer as one of the best, and the ink cartridges gave you the best bang for you buck.  Yeah, ok...
You would think that if they know they have this issue, they would do more to help their customers out.

    From http://www.hp.com/pageyield/articles/us/en/InkUseage.html
Some color ink may be used when printing black text-or-graphics. There are several circumstances when color ink may be used—primarily to improve print quality, and sometimes to improve printer reliability—even if the document appears to be only black text-and-graphics. Many HP printers utilize chemical interactions to improve the quality and permanence of plain paper black text-and-graphics by adding small amounts of color ink to certain black areas.
While I am an HP employee, I am not a expert on all our products. If I offer advice, I'm not speaking for HP on how to solve an issue, but I'll do my personal best to help you.

  • I have an airport extreme with a HP Folio laptop and cannon pixma MX882 printer. when i am VPN'd in thru Cisco vpn and try to print the wireless print connection stops. i Un-VPN and it prints. then i have to go back into VPN to continue?how do i configure

i have an Airport Extreme wireless router, HP Folio laptop (company supplied) and a Canon PIXMA MX882 wireless printer, copier, scanner and fax.
when i am VPN's in thru CISCO VPN to my company Intranet site I cannot print wirelessly. i have to turn off VPN, priint and log back into the company intranet site.  is there a way to configure the router so that it is not blocking the signal?
    Tx

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.
    http://stevejenkins.com/blog/2010/01/using-the-local-default-gateway-with-a-wind ows-vpn-connection/
    Cisco vpn client..
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/239113
I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

  • Router giving wireless printer a bad IP

I am trying to setup my hp wireless printer on my Linksys WRT54G network. After configuring, the HP setup assistant tells me that my printer has been associated with my network, but it gives me a 169.XXX.XXX ip address. When I try and complete the config it fails. I called HP cust. service and they told me that the router should be giving the printer a 192.xxx.xxx IP. Is there something I have to configure in the Linksys setup that I don't know about? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The 169 IP address signifies that your wireless printer was unable to connect to the router.  The HP printer gave itself that address.  It did not come from the Linksys router.
    What printer are you using?
For most HP printers, you will need to first connect the printer, by wire, to your WRT54G  (or by USB cable, directly to your computer).  Then setup the printer using the HP printer setup software.  Then disconnect the wire and connect wirelessly to the printer.
To get a wireless connection, your printer will need to be set to the same SSID, same encryption method, and same encryption key, that you set in the WRT54G.
In the router, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys", your printer may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer and printer, to find and lock on to your router's signal.
Additonally, you will need to install a "network aware" printer driver on your computer.  Most HP printer drivers are already setup to be able to handle networks.
In some cases, you might need (or simply prefer) to set your printer to a fixed LAN IP address.  This assures that your printer will always have the same address on your network.   If you decide to do this, note that you will need to follow some very specific rules:
Rules for using fixed LAN IP addresses on Linksys routers:
With Linksys routers, a fixed (static) LAN IP addresses must be assigned in the device that is using the address. So you need to enter the fixed address in the computer or printer, not in the router.
When using a Linksys router, any fixed LAN IP address must be outside the DHCP server range (typically 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149), and it cannot end in 0, 1, or 255.
Therefore any fixed LAN IP address would normally need to be in the range of
    192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.99 or
    192.168.1.150 thru 192.168.1.254
assuming you are still using the default DHCP server range.
Also, in the computer (or printer), when you set up a static LAN IP address, you would need to set the "Subnet mask" to 255.255.255.0 and the "Default Gateway" to 192.168.1.1 and "DNS server" to 192.168.1.1
It is also important that no two devices on your network be set to the same static LAN IP address.
