Wireless printer and airport express

I have an HP officejet 7410 "all in one" printer that use to connect to my Imac wirelessly just fine but now I have to connect it to the usb cable to get it to print. my family has 4 mac bookpro's also and its hit or miss whether or not they will print so would it be best for me to shut everything off, connect an airport express to my modem and then restart everything? I'm just tired of fooling with it and know there must be a better way? Thanks!

You can connect your printer via USB to the USB port on an AirPort Express or Extreme and share them throughout your network.
Instructions can be found here.

  • Time capsule printing and airport express

Just set up a TC and am having a couple of problems:
    1) Cannot print. At first I got a message that the printer could not be found. Went back and reinstalled the printer with correct driver (would not accept auto setup)...now get a message that printing is complete but nothing prints.
    2) Airport Express. On setup, Airport Utility detects both TC and AE. I set up TC and then reconfigure AE to join the wireless network. AE either disappears from Airport Utility or looks as if it is OK, but won't work with iTunes. AE did work with iTunes before I got the TC.
    Any suggestions?

First off - I'm not overly knowledgeable about networking. I have relied on the simplicity of everything for years and it has just worked - until today!
I had a perfectly good dlink router, four or more computers all hooked up to the internet as well as a wireless printer and via Airport Express a color laser, and my iTunes could, via Airport Express, pump music into two spots as well as through my Apple TV. Fantastic!
Sadly - as soon as I plugged in a Time Capsule directly to the cable modem, I could not print from any computer - (although early on I could print on both printers from mine) Now -nada . The Airport Expresses are flashing amber and I am lost. I unplugged my old dlink figuring they would all see the new Time Capsule and automatically do whatever they needed to do. One of the printers is wireless on its own ( no Airport Express) and it doesn't work either on any computer.
It sounds like the first thing you need to do is to reconfigure your AirPort Express units to work with the Time Capsule. The first thing I'd do is to connect to each one with AirPort Utility and do a File/"Save a Copy As" operation to save the configuration details in case you need to restore them. The next step depends on the model(s) of the AirPort Express units. If they are all model A1264 units, then things will be a lot simpler. If any of them are A1084 or A1088 models, then things will be a little more complicated, requiring you to configure things as a "WDS" network.

  • Wireless modem and Airport Express.. one at a time

Recently my internet provider upgraded my old plug in modem to a newer wireless model. Now it seems that the current setting allow communication with only one or the other at the same time. If I want to be online with the wireless modem and send my iTunes music via Airport Express to my sound system, no dice. I have to either click on the modem up in the Airport choices to be online and listen to iTunes through the computer speakers, or go offline to listen to music through the sound system and Airport Express.
I'm sure I'm just missing something in preferences or settings somewhere.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks, and Happy New Year!

  • Connecting wireless modem and airport express

I currently run internet with an old Motoirola Sideboard cable modem and Airport Express - previous version. All runs well. Now my Optus provider has upgraded my service with a Premium account for higher speed. They have also given me a free wi fi Cisco modem - DPQ3925. How can I replace my old Motorola modem and still maintain Air play etc with my new modem using Airport Express. I need to know exactly wire per wire help - please, if possible - Thanks

    Hi - I have a similar issue.
I have a new macbook pro, ATV (3rd Gen) and AXn (purely for Airplay of itunes).
All three are wirelessly connected to my HG556a Huawei WiFi Router.
The Macbook pro and ATV work fine and can see each other for airplay mirroring and itunes.
The AX connects and comes up in Airport Utility (AU) and itunes shortly after you turn it on, but if you either dont use it or stop using it and switch to ATV or whatever it dissapears from itunes and AU says it cant find it. Randomly the light on the AX stays green the whole time.
I have to switch the AX off and on to get it back working again (i.e. itunes and AU can see it).
Following other forum posts I've set the AX up by hard connecting it to my router, setting a static iP and reserving ports 5353 and 3689 to that address. I've also turned off ipv6 or whatever using the networksettings Terminal code string. I have also repaired permissions with disk utility!
It still dissapears from available options in iTunes and AU. ideas?

  • Wireless Modem and Airport Express USB Printer

I am already connected to the internet via a wireless modem provided by my ISP. The connection uses Airport. I just purchased an Airport Express to connect my computer to a printer through the USB port. However, I can't get the airport utility to connect to the Airport Express solely for the purpose of connecting to the printer. I have tried to make the new aiport express both a new network and part of an existing wireless network with no sucess. I sitll have a flashing yellow light on my Airport Express. I have not connected the wireless modem to the Airport Express. Do I have to connect the airport express to the modem? Help!

    Hi Andrew Otis:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You'll need to configure your AE via the Airport Admin Utility to Join an Existing Wireless Network, then select the name of your network in the drop down box or enter it EXACTLY as the SSID is broadcasting your network Name. You may also have to configure wireless security if you wireless modem has that enabled.
    I hope this helps!

  • Wireless Printing w/ Airport Express and HP Printer

I'm running Snow Leopard. Connected my HP 4280 Printer via USB to Airport Express. Presto! Instant wireless printing. Then 3 days later, without changing any settings, I now get "Printer is Offline" message.
I've tried dumping printer driver, and reinstalling new driver downloaded from HP. No luck.
I went to Airport Set Up Utility > Printer > Manual Set Up, and there is no printer listed.
Thanks in advance for any ideas to help me!

I got in touch with HP through their website. They sent me an email with step-by-step instructions. Here they are. Problem solved!
    From HP:
    Cause for the issue:
This issue may occur due to device or network conflicts.
    Resolution:
Before we proceed with troubleshooting this issue, please confirm if the latest printer software (Mac os x 10.6 compatible) is installed on your Mac and the Mac is able to communicate wireless with the router.
If yes then continue with the following steps,
Step 1: Reset the Print System
    1. Click on Apple icon
    2. Select System Preferences
    3. Click on Print and Fax
    4. Click on the printer on the left side
    5. Press the Ctrl key + click on Your printer icon
    6. You will get an option to choose Reset Print system.
    7. Click on Reset Print System. This will reset the print system.
    Step 2: Repair Disk Permissions
    1. On your Mac, click on Go menu from the finder menu bar at the top
    2. Select Utilities tab
    3. Click on Disk utility
    4. Once the disk utility pops up, select the hard drive and click on Verify Permissions tab.
    5. This may take some time to complete as the Mac will try to verify all the permissions for the hard drive.
    6. Once the Verify Disk Permission is complete, restart the mac.
    7. Follow steps 1 – 4.
    8. In the 4th step select Repair Disk Permissions. Once the repair disk permissions is complete,

  • Airtunes, Wireless Speakers and Airport Express:  A Reality?

    Hi all,
I have an Airport Extreme Base Station that I use to wirelessly connect my iMac and pc to the internet and a common printer. Last week, I purchased the Airport Express (AE) to allow for me to play the music from my iTunes library (on the iMac) on some speakers in my backyard during a party. I wound up purchasing some decent computer speakers and connected them to the AE vis-a-vis a 3.5mm stero jack.
Ideally, I want to purchase some really good, wireless outdoor speakers, but I do not know how I would be able to utilize the AE in conjunction with a wireless speaker system. Again, my understanding is that a 3.5 mm stereo jack connecting the speakers to the AE is required to enable Airtunes to play via the AE.
Can anyone suggest a way that I can get Airtunes to play through the AE over wireless speakers without the stereo jack? Are there any wireless speakers that include a subwoofer that would connect to the AE via the 3.5mm stereo jack and then transmit to the speakers via bluetooth?
Thanks in advance for any help!

^^ Thanks, Duane. But how about a situation where the wireless speakers are equipped with a receiver: theoretically, could I attach the receiver to the AE via the 3.5 mm stereo jack and then place the wireless speakers anywhere I desired (within the range of the receiver, of course)?

  • Wireless printing through Airport Express stops after a few pages

I have a Canon MP780, which I tried hooking up to my Airport Express USB. Installation seemed to work smoothly with the Airport Utility, and it printed a test page just fine. However, when I printed a longer document, something kacked after a few pages (a communications error).
Hooking it up is a hassle (have to go through a wall to get to the AE/DSL modem setup), and I ripped it apart after upgrading the canon drivers to no avail. I'll try it again to get the exact error messages if there's more than a snowballs chance in hades that this might work, but thought I'd at least find out if it's hopeless or not before throwing more time at this.
    Any help's appreciated... many thanks.

There has been similar posts on this forum regarding wireless stability. A few have indicated that there printing was fine until the recent Airport Client Update 2009-002. If you check your System Prefs > Software Update > Installed Software list, have you also run this update?

  • Wireless Broadband and Airport Express

Where I used to live I had ATT DSL and used my Airport Express to provide a wireless network and the use of my non-networked Samsung printer. My new address won't have DSL or Cable--but there is Verizon wireless broadband. Is there a way I can more or less duplicate what I had with the DSL and the Airport Express? I sure would like to be about to print without having to physically attach the USB printer cable to my MacBook? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hello,
The idea behind the Cradlepoint CBA250 adapter (which I have not tested) is to create an Ethernet output from a USB (or ExpressCard) modem or a mobile phone. This combination would thus effectively replace a DSL modem that has been connected to a WAN port of a wireless base station. If your AirPort Express was used as a base station, and was working with a USB printer earlier (much like this), everything ought to be as before.

  • How to setup wireless printing with AirPort Express?

Hey, I just bought a AirPort Express today and I can't figure out how to setup the usb wireless printing. Could someone explain in detail on how to do this? Thanks-Michael
    I have a Windows 7 64-bit PC and a Hp Deskjet F380 USB printer.

Download the install Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2
Run the program. Hopefully, your printer will be recognized.
If it is, "install" the printer and try to print.
Keep in mind that if you have an All-in-One type of device, that only the print function will be supported.
Advanced features like copy, scan, maintenance, etc are not supported. You will need to connect the All-in-One directly to your PC if you need those services.

  • Slow wireless printing with Airport Express

I have a Canon MP530 printer hooked up to an Airport Express for wireless printing. My wireless internet network is through an Airport Extreme. The only thing hooked into the Express is the printer, and it works but is extremely slow. It can take an hour to print one 15 page document. Any ideas how to fix this?

I'm not sure I understand your question, or at least I don't know how to tell connection speed with the utility. The express is set up as an extension to my current wireless network, although I'm only using it for printing.
I had a similar experience with a hard drive wirelessly connected to the Extreme - data transfer was ridiculously slow. Is this something to be expected with wireless connectivity?

  • Wireless printing with airport express/extreme?

i'm trying to figure out how to use either an express or an extreme (I have both) as a wireless print network of sorts. In the past I hooked up my modem to the extreme along with my printers, and was able to connect wirelessly to my computer; thus, wireless printing. i have since changed to google fiber (including that just in case that's part of the issue), and my modem/router is on a different level of the house than the rest of my computer setup, and i don't think it can be moved. All the solutions i've found require a computer to be directly connected to the modem/express for the initial setup, which isn't possible in this case as i don't have a laptop, just a desktop. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

It helps if you use specifics.
Are you talking about a USB printer?
What is the google modem router??
How and where do you hope to place the airport and printer? ie will it be plugged into the main router by ethernet?
There is no problems doing the setup over wireless.. as long as wireless reaches the computer. There is also no problem manually setting up the airport router in total isolation from the network.. once  setup you can place it back into the network.
    Typical method of manual backup.
Airport Utility shows "unexpected error - please try again" when connecting to Time Capsule

  • Wireless printing via airport express

Ive encountered a problem when it comes to printing over my home wireless network. The network consists of a single airport express base station connected via ethernet to my modem and broadcasting a wireless signal for both a macbook and a acer laptop to access the internet, which works just fine.
I also have a HP deskjet multifunction printer connected to the base station via the usb port, witch also shows up in the airport utility as being connected to the router. I'm aware that the scan function will only work when its directly connected to the computer, but as for printing, Ive set up the printer using bonjour for windows on the acer laptop, and that machine is able to print via the base station with no troubles at all.
Here is the problem. I'm able to add the printer to the list of printers on the macbook using the correct driver, and it says under location that its connected to the airport express, but when I go to print (a test page, etc) the document wont print. i get the following message - "Unable to read response header - short read" and it just hangs in line until I cancel the job. Ive tried the options on the apple troubleshooting guide, removing and adding the printer, restarting the base station and the multifunction, etc, but still no result. any ideas?

you might find pointers in the _*Printer Troubleshooting Guide*_.

  • Windows2000, printing, and airport express

    Hi All:
Here is what I am trying to do:
Print from a DellPC (Inspiron4000) running win2000 to an epson cx stylus 4200 that is connected via an usb cable to an imac running OSX.
So far the PC and Mac can connect to eachother via the netwrok established by the airport express (ie, I can transfer files back and forth no problem).
So far, when I run Bonjour for PC, I "see" the printer I want to connect to in the list of available printers. From the Mac, I have given permission to share said printer.
Problems begin when I proceed to the step on Bonjour in which I "add" the drivers, after the program runs for a few secs, I get an error message saying something like "you don't have sufficient control for yr computer..." What gives. I did some scouting and found a somewhat vague troubleshooting page on .mac.com suggesting I delete the printer from the queue and/or make sure my AE name is less than 40 char long...
I've tried to delete print queues the best I could, etc, but I just can't get it to work.
Note, in the past I have been able to print (marginally though, big files crap out) to the printer (albeit a different printer) that is connected to the airport express WHEN the airport express is ethernetted to my wireless modem/router (which is made by 2wire and i got it for free from sbcglobal when i got my dsl service). I don't like this configuration though.
I am becoming obsessed with getting this to work, and spending entirely too much time on this
    Any suggestions...
    Thanks, Jennifer

Configure the Express while it is within close range of the Extreme. Once it is configured place it about half-way between the location of the Extreme and the area of the house that experienced the weak signal. If the signal is still weak, try moving it a little closer to the weak area.
If you need advice about how to configure the Express to extend the network of the Extreme be specific about the problem you are having. If you are completely lost I suggest you do some reading first before you ask for assistance.
Here is a support article that should help.

  • Belkin wireless modem and Airport Express lan problems

Let me preface my problem by stating the obvious - I'm not very technically proficient!
That said, I've had an AirPort Express wireless lan connecting three computers on my home/office network for the past 8 months without any problems at all. All machines on the network have been able to access the internet via a Thomson SpeedTouch 530 ADSL1 modem that connects via an ethernet cable to the AirPort Express. No problems.
The network consists of my G5 iMac (ALS), my husband's Mac mini and my Sony VAIO laptop (XP Pro SP2).
I should also mention that half-way between my office and my husband's office there is a second AirPort Express that 'boosts' the signal to his office.
I recently changed ISPs to a provider that offers the faster ADSL2+ service. This meant that I had to get a new Belkin ADSL2+ modem. This is my problem. I cannot connect my AirPort Express network to the internet using the Belkin modem. The Belkin modem connects without any problem if I just have it connected via ethernet to my iMac but that's not what I want to do.
My existing AirPort details are -
    IPv4 Address: 10.0.1.3
Router 10.0.1.1 (this is the SpeedTouch 530 modem)
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
I thought I could change the new modem's address(?terminology?) from 10.1.1.1 (which is how it came) to 10.0.1.3 and that everything would work but it doesn't.
Belkin tech support said 'the problem is with your AirPort Express' (what else would they say)?
Do I have to keep the 10.1.1.1 and change my AirPort addresses? Or should I try to set up a new network?
