Wireless printer (Epson XP-610) flakey on 2012 Macbook Pro (Mountain Lion)
Hi folks, I'm trying to get this printer set up wirelessly and it's becoming a nightmare. After 4 re-installs of the driver software I managed to connect and successfully print a single page, the Macbook went in to sleep mode and lost the connection and wouldn't reconnect. It went in to sleep mode again 5 minutes later and started printing the document it was trying to print when it thought the printer wasn't connected.
I managed to set it up on a laptop running Windows 7 and my desktop running Windows 8 with absolute no problems so I know the wireless connection from the printer is working perfectly.
I've also installed the Apple update for the driver but it's made no difference.

ThanksSince the printer is network-ready, it really doesn't matter the brand of router used ... so you don't need to get a AirPort or Time Capsule just to get connectivity for your MacBook Pro.
You just need to configure the printer for your network so that it gets an IP address from the Netgear router. From the Mac, this will be "seen' as a network or IP printer when you use the OS X's Print & Fax panel within System Preferences. -
2012 Mac Pro / Mountain Lion won't boot with ATI 5770
2012 12 Core mac pro. I've got 2 GPUs installed:
- Quadro 4000 for mac
- ATI 5770
The Quadro is so loud and annoying that I'd like to unplug it for general use. Then plug it in for DaVinci or Premiere use.
Problem is when I unplug (power) from the Quadro and reboot, system gives me the Apple logo and then automatically restarts. Over and over. This is with Mountain Lion.
I tried booting to a drive with 10.6 and it booted up fine.
I keep searching for driver updates or something but everywhere says it's included in OSX?
Is this problem happening because there are 2 GPUs installed? Even though one is unplugged? Like PCI lane conflict or something?
AlexI think you will need to remove it entirely, or plug the power back in. It does not seem to allow your Mac to work with a Bus connection, but no aux power.

Mid-2012 macbook pro gets kernel panics when waking from sleep
Hi all,
I got a new mid-2012 Macbook Pro running Lion (10.7.5) at the end of Oct which started kernel panicking pretty much from day one. The kernel panics only occur when the computer is put to sleep and reawaken after more than an hour or so has passed. I get a grey screen that eventually shows text like "Your computer was restarted because of a problem. Please wait a few seconds or press any key to continue" and then the OS boots up again. Bizarrely, this doesn't usually happen if the computer has only been asleep for a short time - i.e. 15 min or less.
Below is the kernel panic log, which seems to suggest there's an issue with the Nvidia GeForce GT 650M graphics card.
Anyone have any idea what the problem is? Advice is much appreciated.

Software Update issues on 2012 MacBook Pro 15"
Picked up my shiny new MBP today and set about installing everything on it, and running software updates.
It's currently running 10.7.4.
The software updates were glacially slow, but I waited, did other work on my iMac and eventually, they completed.
Then installed iWork '09, and run software update again.
Again, the software update was slow, so I tried downloading the iWork 6 / 9.1 patch manually.
17KB/s. Connected via wifi. Said it would take an hour to download a 78Mb patch.
I tried downloading the same file on my iMac.
50KB/s.
Tried running a test download from my ISP's test site on the MBP.
634KB/s - ie: normal.
I've since downloaded (on the MBP!) patches for Office, a bunch of different apps, and download speeds were on par with my iMac, and what I expect from my network in general.
Right now it's downloading the Jave JRE from Apple via ethernet and is, once again, glacially slow.
So this isn't a "Why is my MacBook Pro is slow on WiFi?" discussion, it's a "Why are my downloads from Apple servers so slow, and why is my 2012 MacBook Pro with Lion almost 1/4 the speed of my 2007 iMac with SL?"
And am I the only one?Hey, thanks for your idea, but it seems to have set me back even further.
Initially, I couldn´t use the disk utilites on the start up disks I have, as the Disk Ultility kept crashing. So, I connected my MBP to another mac (G4) in target disk mode and used the other G4´s disk utility to repartition the disk as GPT, as it was set to Apple partition.
So the disk is now Mac OS extended Journaled and the partition scheme is GUID partition Table.
I then disconnected the two macs and booted the MBP up from the startup disk again to run the installation.
But, now, the installation doesn´t even see the harddrive at all.
So, I double checked the harddrive is fine. By connecting it a second time to the G4, in target disk mode, and ran dick verification and repairs..... the G4 can see the drive and it´s telling me everything is perfect.
I really think this is a software issue, rather than a hard-drive one, as I seem to be going around the houses, repartioning and reformatting the hard-drive which seems to be working perfectly when connected to any other computer.
Any other thoughts? -
My Macbook pro running Lion 10.7 will not connect via a wireless network to either of my printers, Epson and HP. Both printers report an excellent connection to the correct network. The Macbook reports "printer not found"
Until 2 weeks ago all worked well. Both printers makes me think some setting in the computer must have changed.
Any suggestions?System Preferences>Fax & Scan. Delete the printers and re-add them back in.

I have an Epson printer on a Wifi network. Windows 7 desktop is running the network, and my wife's HP Win 7 laptop prints to it just fine. My MacBook Pro running Yosemite won't detect it, and I do have the latest driver installed. I didn't have a problem when I had a Canon Pixma on the network, but when I replaced it with the Epson nothing seems to work. I go to add a printer to the queue and only the FAX function of the printer shows up - not the WS-4530 print function. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Please??? :-)

As someone who has to print from my Mac to a networked printer at home all the time, I can certainly understand how frustrating it must be to have that fail to perform as expected. Let's see if we can get you up and running.

2012 Macbook Pro crawling with Mavericks

The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as some other aspects of the configuration that may be related to the problem.
Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out. Here's a brief summary: You copy a line of text from this web page into a window in another application. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken while booted in “normal” mode. If the system is now running in safe mode and is bootable in normal mode, reboot as usual. If it only boots in safe mode, use that.
Below are instructions to enter a UNIX shell command. It does nothing but produce human-readable output. If you have more than one user, and the one with the problem is not an administrator, please run the command both as that user and as an administrator. The results may be different. The administrator is the user that was created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:

Okay so I'm looking at purchasing a home theater system and was wanting to know the best way to connect my mid 2012 MacBook Pro to the home theater system and TV. I am wanting to play both movies (Netflix etc) and music. Will my MacBook play 5.1 surround sound to the home theater system? Whats the best way to connect this all up? MacBook audio to the home theater system via Digital Optical from the headphone port with a 3.5mm to toslink adapter and then video to the TV via HDMI cable from the thunderbolt port with thunderbolt to HDMI adapter? My thinking was to separate the video and audio to get the best picture and sound. Any help/advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

An AppleTV or any AirPlay-enabled AVR. AirPlay is wireless, though you could use wired Ethernet if you want to avoid all the potential problems associated with wireless. Make sure it specifically says AirPlay which is Apple's proprietary technology. There are quite a few of them to choose from today. Denon is one, I believe Pioneer, there may be others. Shop around. The AppleTV's price was recently reduced to $69 US and may actually be the most cost-effective solution, allowing you to research the best AVR for your needs. The AppleTV has both HDMI (audio and video) and optical audio outputs.

Way too complicated But if you really don't want to use AirPlay, you can purchase an inexpensive (< $10) Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and an equally inexpensive (<$3) HDMI cable to any HDMI input on your AVR.

It makes absolutely no difference. HDMI and optical audio use completely identical digital audio signals. -
Slow Boot Up Time on 2012 Macbook Pro (i7)
I have a 2012 Macbook Pro (8 GB RAM, i7 Processor, 10.8.3) and it takes just over a minute to boot up and get to the home screen. I have a 130 GB Bootcamp partition with 45 GB free space and four login items (BetterSnapTool, Yoink, Dropbox, Alfred 2).
I have tried all of the following and nothing has changed considerably:
-No icons on desktop
-500 GB of disk space free
-Ran all Maintenance and Cleaning scripts in OnyX
I was reading this post and I have posted a two minute timeframe from the time I turned on the computer. Can someone please advise me on what might be causing this delayed start up?

Macbook Pro w/ Lion 10.7.2 & Windows 7 Shared Printer (Lexmark X5650)
I just recently purchased a MacBook Pro with Lion OS 10.7.2 for my wife and have been trying to connect her Macbook to my Lexmark X5650 Printer that is connected to my Windows 7 Professional PC. Tried everything with no success. Any ideas? I have always been a PC user and this is my first MAC and really know nothing about them. Wife had to have it for Dental School and I am getting very frustrated
List of things I've tried thus far:
-Installing printer using CUPS

where the server is I have tried using both the IP Address and Computer Name of the shared Printer
-Installing printer using "Advanced" options under "Print & Scan" to which I used the address settings as above
-Tried the LPD setting as well as just setting it straight up by selecting "Windows" under "Print & Scan", selected workgroup, computer name, and printer and everything appeared to install correctly until attempting to print test page
-Printer is shared on Windows PC
-Even tried creating an Administrative User and Password specifically for Printing
-Made sure I had the latest MAC Driver for the Printer
I have pretty much tried every setting and suggestion that can be found on google and always get the "Authentication Required" error or nothing at all printing just pauses. When I click resume and enter in the username and password for my windows pc, it says that its sending the job, but then nothing happens and also whenever I try to print another test page after that, I have to constantly click resume and enter the username and password manually regardless of how I set it up.
Is this a printer compatibility issue, is this an issue with Mac OS 10.7.2 (Lion) w/ Windows 7 or what? Every thread that I have read does not appear to have any responses from Apple with a workaround or any kind of explanation. All that I have come across is that most people had no problems printing through shared Windows 7 printers until they upgrade to Mac Lion OS.The "Authentication Required" error can be related to the print driver. Many vendors create their OS X drivers for direct communication from the Mac to the printer. As soon as you stick a Windows computer or 3rd party print server in between the Mac and the printer, then you can get this error.
The thing to note is that when you added the printer via the Add Printer > Windows pane, vs CUPS or the Advanced SMB, you would have been prompted for your Windows credentials to see the printer share after selecting the Win7 computer name. If entering these details then showed you the shared printer, this rules out the problem being related to authentication information.
Working on the premise that the error is being caused by the driver then there are other driver options for OS X, such as Gutenprint. However, looking through the supported driver list for Gutenprint v5.2.7, there is not that many Lexmark printers and certainly not the X5650. And looking at other driver packages available for OS X, I cannot see this model so you may need to look at other options.
One option is LPD which you have tried already. But I think this would have failed due to the service not running by default on Windows 7. While it is certainly present on Win7 for you to connect to a network printer using LPD, the service so that other computers can print via Win7 using LPD has to be enabled. This is done via Control Panel > Programs & Features > Turn Windows Features ON/OFF > Print & Document Services > LPD Print Service. With this enabled and running (you can check via Services) then the queue should be created in OS X using a syntax of lpd://ip_address/printer_share_name. Note that no authentication is required and if the driver will support this type of connection then it could be a quick win. But again the driver could be the issue, although I believe you will see a different error if it has an issue with this type of network connection.
So another workaround is detailed in this blog. This allows you to use the vendors driver on the Mac but I have to say that I have not tried this with Lion and Win7. My last test with this setup was with Win XP and Snow Leopard.
What may prove to be the easiest win is to purchase a Airport Express. With the printer connected to the USB port of this wireless device, the Mac can use the Lexmark driver and Win7 should have no problems printing to it either, although it would be handy to install the free Bonjour for Windows utility to help with locating the printer.

Can anyone give a list of upgradeable performance parts for a mid 2012 macbook pro 13"?
I have a non Retina display mid 2012 macbook pro that I want to do a home refurbishment and mass upgrade on, the processor and graphics cards are both good as is but RAM gets a bit bottlenecked with only 8gb, Id like to be able to replace the built in speakers and possibly upgrade the optical/super drive as well If thats not too large an Endeavor.

I want to know if I can connect an Acer S201HL to a 2012 MacBook Pro i7 2.9GHz 8GB memory OSX10.8.1 - I will be using a magic mouse and apple wireless keyboard as well - if this setup will work what specific cables and adapters do I need to get? If at all possible I would consider running 2 displays. also running Parralells with Windows 7 Home Premium.

Yosemite 2012 Macbook Pro grpahics problem
Hi,
I guess this problem is directed at Apple rather than the users of this forum.
My trusty 2012 Macbook Pro has become a nightmare since upgrading to Yosemite. I run my own business and use my machine primarily for Autocad, Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator. I am having all sorts of crazy graphics-related issues - freezing, crashing, buttons appearing without text, rapidly flashing rectangles in finder to name but a few.
I've read the forums and there seems to be hundereds of people experiencing the same problems, after reading the various threads, a workaround seems to be turning off transparency, which has improved things somewhat, but its made the interface ugly.
My machine has gone from being solid, slick and a joy to work with to something ugly, difficult and undpredictable. I'm really, REALLY fed up about this, I cant go back to Mavericks because I havent got a bootable image of the OS as its always been installed from the Apple servers.
When will this problem be fixed? There doesnt seem to be an official statement from Apple about this anywhere and in the meantime everyone who's parted with a princely sum of their hard-earned cash for their laptops are left with a pale, watered down, flakey version of what was once a brilliant machine.First be aware that you are NOT addressing Apple, but fellow users like yourself.
A possible solution to your problem may be as follows.
If your MBP came with Mavericks installed, by booting the MBP with the OPTION + COMMAND + R keys, it will connect you to the Apple servers and allow you to install the original OSX.
If you MBP came with Mt. Lion or Lion, you should have a copy of Mavericks in your App store account. Download it from there.

Goodness.......why can't Apple do things right anymore. Oh I forgot they sell iPhones instead of computers.Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
