Wireless Printer Problems after OSX 10.9.1 Update

Hi,
I've been having trouble detecting my HP C309g printer wirelessly following upgrade to Mavericks.
I can get it working with some effort but after some time it cant be reached again.
Not sure if the issue is linked to powersave on the printer of anything like that but i've had the same printer for a few years and never had such issues.
I've tried resetting the printing system and reinstalling the drivers etc, but not really solving the problem.
After trying a few of those steps this morning, i now dont see the printer in the list of available wireless printers, but i did have that before also so its not a direct result of those steps.
Any tips on debugging would be appreciated. I've seen a few other threads with similar issues. Not clear if the issue is airport updates or OSX updates etc.
thanks

If there is some method to determine what IP address the HP is using, then you can often enter this IP address as a URL in a web browser. When the printer is connected to the same network as the computer this action should result in the internal web page of the printer appearing (assuming the printer has this facility which many do).
Or you could use the built-in Network Utility, which used to be located under Applications > Utilities but has been moved in Mavericks - now you must open System Information and select Windows > Network Utility. With this open there is a Ping tab. Here you can enter the IP address of the printer and press Ping. If there is a working path between the Mac and the printer then you should get a response to each Ping packet that is sent.

  • Canon 860 Series (Pixma) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips

After spending several hours sorting out Canon Pixma OSX problems here are my thoughts:
Canon 860 Series (Pixma 868) Printer Problems with OSX 10.8 (Mountain Lion) – links to Canon Support Site with Drivers and Software with install tips
    Problem:
    - New imac and MacBook Pro 2012 (OSX 10.8.2) had a problem using Canon Pixma 868 printer on network and would not scan or print using Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print), which has advanced scanning and photo printing functions.
    - When I connected the canon printer to my imac, OSX 10.8.2 automatically downloaded and installed drivers for Canon 860 series printer. I could then add the new printer (select ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”) and printer would work while connected via USB but could not get to print or scan over network wifi.
    - The original Canon 860 Series CD does not work with 10.8 and the manual / online instructions did not make sense (as based on CD install).
    Solution:
    1) Install Canon Printer Drivers and Software (from official Canon site)
Go to canon support site, review FAQ, then download and install following Pixma 860 Series software & drivers for OSX 10.8 (links see below). The version I downloaded is in brackets but check for updated version. Full instructions are below.
Canon 860 Series Drivers & Software  for OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion:
The base software and drivers needed for using Canon 860 Series on Mac OS X 10.8 (USB) are
    1 Printer Driver
(Canon MX860 series CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.1.0 (03-Aug-2012))
    2 Scanner Driver
(Canon MX860 series Scanner Driver Ver. 14.11.4a (03-Aug-2012))
    3 Network Tool
(Canon IJ Network Tool Ver. 4.1.0 for Intel Mac (27-Dec-2012)
Canon Software for using advanced printing and scanning functions (while connected to network)
    4 Solution Menu
    (Canon Solution Menu Ver. 1.4.1 (27-Jul-2012 ))
    5 MP Navigator EX
(Canon MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 (02-Auf-2012))
    6 Easy-PhotoPrint EX
    (Canon Easy-PhotoPrint EX Ver. 4.1.6 (21-Jan-2013 ))
Canon Support (HK) – check your local site
    http://www.canon.com.hk/en/download/main/index.do
Select Product and drivers from support site eg http://support-hk.canon-asia.com/
    1. Choose a product category
    Multifunctional Printers
    2. Choose a product series
      Pixma
    3. Choose a product model
      Pixma MX868
    4. Choose type of document
    Downloads or FAQ
If you have problems installing the software under 10.8, see the FAQ on Canon site. You will need to allow software installs from “unidentified developers by using “Control” Key or by changing your system preferences)
    2) Check Canon Printer and Software Working while connected via USB
Once you have downloaded and installed drivers and software and restarted computer, check that the printer and Canon Pixma software (Pixma MP Navigator 2.1 & Photo Print) are working via USB.  Open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App) and make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it shows the correct SSID Wifi settings (under the Canon IJ Network Tool App ‘Setup menu’).  This is normally done as part of the automatic install but worth double checking
    3) Add new network printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”).
After you have checked USB printing turn off printer, unplug the USB cable and shutdown the Canon IJ Network Tool App.
Then turn the printer back on and wait 30s. Then add a new printer using ‘apple menu’ / ‘system preferences’ / ‘print and scan’ / “+”). Once you select “+” (add new printer), wait 10-30s for the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer to appear in the new window eg Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) (Kind: “Canon IJ Network”)
DO NOT ADD THE MX 860 SERIES BONJOUR SCANNER (the Bonjour Scanner is the built-in software, is not needed and often appears first on the add printer list).  The Canon scanner can be accessed used through the MP Nav EX Ver. 2.1.3 software (which has much better functions)
You will now have two Printer Canon MX860 (USB) and Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network). Set the Canon MX860 (Wifi / Network) as default and test print and scan
If the Wifi Networked Canon MX 860 Series printer does not appear, check the printer and make sure that the printer can see the wifi network. On the printer select Menu / Settings / Device Settings / Lan Settings / WLAN Setting List.  It should say WLAN Active, identify the SSID and have an IP address
If the printer can not see the Wifi Network, plug the USB cable back in, then open the Canon IJ Network Tool App (Applications / Canon Utilities /IJ Network Tool / Canon IJ Network Tool App). Make sure you can see the Canon MX 860 series (xx.xx.xx.xx.xx.xx) and that it has your SSID settings (under setup), if it has this info, restart the computer and the printer and try again

Hi, thaks for response, meant to post as a discussion (not question), wanted to save others time if they get the same problem

  • Wireless printer issues after installing lion OS

Since installing the Lion Os on 13th September 2011, I have experienced intermittent wireless printing problems.
When you try to print the printer icon comes up with an error, and the message is 'the printer is not connected'. The printer is on and wiFi is lit up. Sometimes by cancelling the print job and then requesting it again clears the problem. When I access the printer in the settings pane it is there and showing idle with a green light, but when you try to print the connection goes.
Sometimes I have to input the administrator password and then it will print. Other times that will not work and I have had to delete the printer and re install it. The problem still exists though.
It exists on all user profiles on the iMac (4)

I have the same problem. I have checked for drivers, and just a couple days ago an updated driver for my printer came through the Mac's Software Update, but it didn't fix the problem. I'm seeing a lot of people with this problem, with different routers and different printers since Lion came out, so I'm fairly certain it's a Lion problem. I hope someone comes up with an answer soon, or I might just break out my PC...

  • IPhoto 08 contact print problems - after 5 images. prints pt a screenshot

iPhoto 08 contact print problems - after 5 images. prints pt a screenshot

Okay - So, I teach photography and have my students print contact sheets from iPhoto version 08.  I have one student (out of forty) having the following problem (I have removed preferences, reinstalled iPhoto, used the iPhoto updater for 7.1.5, reloading the printer driver and upgrading the system software to 10.6.8 {I teach in a high school, so no funds for newer software})
The problem is isolated to one student - the others on the same machine do NOT have the same problem.  When this student selects more than 5 images, the resulting output looks as if he has taken a screen shot - the palettes on the left of the frame show and the titles he has inserted (using Batch Change) are moved on to the pictures.
At this point, I am going to let him screenshot his submissions, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
    Thanks!

  • C4580 Wireless Printing Problem

We purchased a C4580 a few months ago and successfully installed it into our home network.  We eventually had to replace the printer cartridges and went with the high-capacity HP cartridges - then we noticed a problem.  Every time we print out a test page on the printer, it is perfect; however, every time we submit a print job wirelessly the page is a mess!  The wireless print jobs are full of gaps, incompletely printed lines, and doubly printed letters.  AARRGGHH!!!  I am thinking of loading an SD card with a print job, inserting it into the printer and seeing if that will work.  I have updated all software and have had no luck so far in overcoming this wireless print problem - any suggestions?

I was going to lead you to this page to download and install the Full Feature driver.  I also noticed that there are quite a few updates for the software and printer on the same page.
I still think you should install the full featured driver, but if it persists, try some of the updates?
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Printing Problems after Reader 10 install

Recently deployed Reader 10 to about 300 workstations using Group Policy.  Several machines are no longer able to print to some of the network printers.  These printers are HP printers using the Universal Print Driver.  When trying to print we get an error and the Adobe Reader application crashes.  It will however print to other network printers that are using an older device specific driver, printing to the same print device.  Have downloaded the latest HP driver, but it has not helped the situation.  The printing worked fine with Reader 8 and Reader 9.   Anyone with an Idea?

Sorry only know Windows: Edit (menu)>Preferences>General>Application Startup>Enable Protected Mode at startup.

  • Printer Problems after upgrade to Lion

Does anyone have this printer problem after upgrading to Lion. A perfectly functioning laser printer on my network prior to upgrade - now the network seems to drop the printer and show it as "not connected" approximately every 30 minutes ???

    Hi Paul,
Been away and just got back to this issue.
Thanks for the info. The OKI site has now posted a list of all their Printers and their relative drivers for compatibility with "Lion". My machine is due an updated driver from OKI in Mid Decmber according to this notice.
Meanwhile, as the printer does work with some tweaking I guess I will use the work around until the new driver is available. My legacy printers that i use for special jobs both work and as I do not have the disks for their drivers I am loathe to re-set the printer system at this time.
Thanks for your assistance in this issue.
    Regards,
    Mike, Rustington.

  • After osx 10.8.5 update the bluethooth is no longer available

After osx 10.8.5 update the bluethooth is no longer available. It is shown that no Bluetooth is installed it. In front of the update everything worked faultlessly on my iMac late 2009.

Try shutting down your Mac and then unplugging it (completely) for about 30 seconds.  Then plug it in and power it back up.
This does what's called an "SMC reset" and will often resolve issues around AirPort and Bluetooth hardware of this nature.

  • Officejet Pro K5400 printing problems after update to Mavericks OSX 10.9

    Hi,
I have printing problems with my Officejet Pro K5400 after update to Mavericks OSX 10.9.
Now after printing 1 page the printer prints an extra page with '2345X' sentence on it. As this problem started right after updating, I suppose there is a problem with an update.

This patch did solve our problem with the K5400 feeding a "blank sheet".
    Thank you.

  • Leopard 10.5.6 and HP Wireless printing problem

I have a client with a iMac 20" model, shes been having problems with her HP wireless printer for a while now (Photosmart 7280), its setup with static IP, installing the HP software, it can sense the printer, both Bonjour and IP, but when come to printing, it will start the queue as you would expect, but on the printer it simply display 'Printing' and thats it, it just sits there doing nothing else, you cant even cancel the printing, thinking its a fault with the printer, we went out and got her the latest HP Photosmart 8180, guess what ? it does the same thing.
I searched through HP forum, and people are blaming OSX that after 10.5.1 it broke the wireless printing, because I recalled that her old Macbook running tiger never had this problem with the old 7280 printer (sadly its been upgraded to the latest Leopard before Xmas)
With the new 8180 , I use my Notebook running XP Pro and connected to it wireless and printed first time, so the problem does seem like its coming from OSX Leopard, but sadly I cant find a solution, I posted twice on their messageboard but not a single reply after 2 months, so I am hoping that some experts here may have a solution or workaround to this.

    dimsumbox,
I am probably having the same issue as you are. The "HP IP Printing" is not listed in the drop-down menu under "More Printers". As such, attempting to print over the wireless is not working.
Using a wired connection, and selecting "Default" I am able to add the printer and print to it.
On a home network, you may see the printer under "Default". Unfortunately for me, my wired and wireless networks are separate and this option does not work for me.
The printer in question is a Color LaserJet 3500n, and I'm attempting to locate how I can add the "HP IP Printing" option without reinstalling the entire system.

  • Solution to Ipad/ Airprint wireless printing problems

I recently spent several hours trying unsuccessfully to get my ipad mini, IOS7.1, to print to an HP7525 printer using the airprint feature built into both units. I tried every trick offered on many Apple and HP forums but to no avail. I then discovered that my router, an ASUS RT-N1 3U does not properly support the Bonjour packet protocols which are essential to Airprint. So I bought a new router, the Canadian D-Link AC1200 (model DIR-860L), hoping it would solve the problem. It worked like a charm instantly. The Bonjour printer wizard now had the HP7525 in its list of printers and my IPAD mini could now print my Foreflight aviation charts, as well as anything else. It also seems to have solved another HP7525 problem whereby the wireless link goes down after 5 minutes and the printer has to be rebooted every time you want to print something. The link now stays up permanently!. I just hope my good fortune in solving these problems can be of use to others.
My PC operating sysem is WIN 7 64 bit.

These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keep wireless devices better connected and make your router secure and hack proof.
    1. Set a static IP in the printer (click here) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
This is for Linksys routers but can be used for all routers.  Verify your DHCP range and change this
first if needed.  More Wireless Printing help is here.
    2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the
printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click  Settings Tab/Auto Off.  Or use the Printer
        Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS).
In the router:  (Refer to your router manual for information)
    3. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1,6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    4. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
    5. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
    6. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security.  Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
    7. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    8. Save all settings.  Power off both, wait 2 mins.  Power on router wait 2 mins.
    9. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.
Windows 7/8/8.1   Is Network Discovery on or off?
Control Panel/Network and Internet/Network and Sharing Center/Advanced sharing settings.
Under Home or Work (current profile) / Network Discovery.
Select "Turn on network discovery" and save changes.
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos Thumbs Up to the right in the post.

  • HP office jet pro 8600 - wireless printing problem

I am having difficulty printing wirelessly from my iMac to my HP office jet pro 8600. Sometimes it will print, often after waiting hours. But quite often it does print and when I click on the printer icon there is a message that states: "Ready on Server. The printer is not responding. I have no problem or delay in printing from my iPad or iPhone. Tried turning the printer on and off.

when you set it up with your wireless router did you let the printer detect the connection. If so check the wireless channel the router is set to. I changed mine and wham, now it prints as soon as my finger hits the mouse button. Hope this helps.
