Wireless Printer Recommendations?

Hey all,
I have been unable to connect to my home office network with my MacBook Pro to print documents. So, I am looking for a decent (preferably small-ish) printer for use with my MBP. I'd prefer to sans an Airport device and connect to a "wireless" printer instead. I am printing quality color documents, but not photos.
Budget: $100-$200 (less is always good however)
I'd appreciate any recommendations you might have.
Cheers,
~ J

I have the older Canon IP5200R. Once I set my wireless network I then connected the printer (by Canons instruction manual) via USB, setup it for wireless WPA (my Airport Extreme is use WPA2 wireless security) the printer work wirelessly perfect. The only drawback is if I change Airport Extreme wireless security I must re-connect the printer via USB, to set the printer up for the new wireless security setup.
When you get a wireless printer, make sure you READ the Manual's wireless setup instructions.

  • Need Wireless Printer Recommendation

I've had consistently bad luck with wireless printers. We have 2 iMacs and 3 MacBooks in my house. I want to buy a good printer that can work with them all wirelessly. HP seems to subscribe to the "printer of the month" idea and don't offer support to older machines. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Ken,
HP comes out with new consumer models 1x per year the same as Canon, Epson and most others. They also have the broadest selection of WiFi printers to suit all different types of needs. Without knowing anything about what you really want besides wireless it's tough to recommend. Can you give us an idea of printing habits (photos, email, web pages, spreadsheets), scanning needs, guess of pages per month, do you want to save paper by having duplexing, etc...

  • Looking for all-in-one wireless printer recommendation.

Running iPhone 5, iPad Air, MacBook with Snow Leopard and a PC running XP. Anyone???

    Need more info...
    Primarily for text?  For photos?
Is speed most important or quality?
    Price range???
For photos highly recommend Epson Artisan or its current replacement which may be called the Expression series.  All in one and wireless.   May not be speedy enough for text for you

  • Printer RECOMMENDATIONS/Suggestions

I would love one or all of your wireless printer recommendations.
I had an HP and it wasn't great. Now I have a Cannon PIXMA and the colors are pale and can't scan wirelessly and just doesn't interact well with the Mac.
What are your best suggestions for a wireless all-in-one printer?

I've had good luck with my Epson Artisan 810.

  • I have an Apple Retina Pro Notebook and am looking for the most highly recommended compatible wireless printer.  Do you have any recommendations?

I have an Apple Retina Pro Notebook and am looking for the best compatible wireless printer to use with it.  Do you have any recommendations?

"WiFi Wireless Printer" seems to give Users the feeling that they somehow print directly from their computer to the Printer. That is NOT how it works.
To make a WiFi Wireless Printer work, you need to make it a participant on your network, by providing the Network_name and the Password. It then becomes a peer of your MacBook on your home Network, and you can create a Print Queue for it in Add-a-Printer.
There is no particular advantage to this over, say, an Ethernet Printer -- except that you don't have a Physical cable to string.

  • Can anybody recommend a wireless printer that will work with my newly purchased Macbook - and isn't a pain to set up!

I'm a new Macbook user and would like to buy a wireless printer that is entirely compatible and will be relatively easy to set up.  Anybody recommend one please?

  • Wireless Print Server Recommendations

I have a MacBook (10.4) and a Dell Inspiron Notebook. I'm getting ready to purchase a wireless print server, which wireless print routers do you recommend that will be Mac friendly (i.e easy to set up with both my Dell & MacBook).

It is really a question about the printer and its driver. The Mac situation is different from Windows. Most non-postscript printers come with Carbon drivers, where the comm protocol is written into the driver. USB non-postscript printers come USB-only drivers. To use the OS X built-in protocols, you need CUPS drivers (or postscript driver/printer).
Except for one or two models out there, nearly all print servers use the industry standard comm protocols LPD, IPP, HP jetdirect or appletalk.
Apple print servers are yet a different situation - they have firmware that works like Mac-to-Mac print sharing (so they can use USB-only drivers).

  • Can anyone recommend a reliable, small wireless printer?

I am looking for a (as small as possible) wireless printer that works well wirelessly under OSX and could become a potential print center also for my iPad. I have had an Epson wireless PX800FW for a while, but it is bulky and the wireless connection is a pain to set up. I am looking for something smaller and simpler.
    Thank you!

I'd really recommend the Canon MP640. However not word yet on Airprint compatability (although I have escalated this to Canon support). The scanning function works wirelessly too.

what is a good wireless printer for mac POC 10.7.4,having problems with hp 3050A

    Hello Flajack,
Thanks for the post.  I did some checking here and the HP 3050a is compatible with MAC OS 10.7 in a wireless environment.  What kind of issues are you having?  Installation? Connectivity?  Maintaining a wireless connection?  I've included a couple of my favorite links below to assist in getting this resolved.  Check the information in these links and let me know how it goes from there.  Good Luck!

  • Wireless printing to Canon MX310 fails using D-Link Router - Can't Connect

I recently bought a D-Link wireless router (320), which supports wireless printing and I am trying to set it up to work with MBP. I set it up to run with Windows XP and it works fine with no problems, but with my MBP it won't work. Here is a screen shot showing the XP set up and the printer server info from the router (bottom).
    http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/1645/printerq.jpg
From this, I've been using the following information to add the printer,
    Protocol: HP Jetdirect - Socket
    Address: 192.168.0.1
    Queue: lp1
The printer shows up as idle in the printer selection menu. When I print it goes through the following messages,
    Connecting to Printer...
    Printer Online...
    Printing...
And then the queue clears itself as if it printed, but nothing ever comes out of the printer. At first I assumed it was a problem with the router, but when I tested it with Windows it doesn't have any hang-ups.
Any help would be appreciated with this, as I've read several posts and tried all recommendations but nothing will work. I'm also curious if I have the "Queue" in the printer dialogue right, or if it should be 9100. Thanks in advance!

Based on your Windows port configuration, your Mac printer queue configuration is reasonably correct. Although based on your Windows port configuration, you don't seem to require a queue name of lp1 - this would normally be required for LPD connections.
Your issue will be with the driver used. The Canon Mac drivers cannot be used when you have the printer connected to the USB port of a wireless router or print server (although the exception to this rule is an Airport device). When you have the printer connected via USB to a router or being shared by Windows, then you need to use a CUPS-based driver like Gutenprint or PrintFab (yes I know the Canon driver says CUPS but it is not true CUPS).
The Gutenprint tends to be the preferred driver because it is free, however your MX310 is not listed as a supported model so you would have to experiment with using a model that is supported and this can waste a lot of time and ink/paper.
PrintFab (www.printfab.net) costs 49 Euro but it does support your MX310. A trial version is also available so you could see if the printer does work before making a purchase.
One final note. For your Windows queue you don't need to add the colon 9100 after the IP address. The fact that you have selected RAW and have 9100 set for the Port Number is adequate.

  • HP Photosmart series 7510 wireless printer issue

I have a  HP Photosmart series 7510 wireless printer.
My laptop is an HP Pavillion Entertainment PC dv9700.
I am running Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2.
The printer stopped responding when I attempt to print something from the laptop, such as a web page or document.  When I print a diagnostic page it goes and responds right away.
Any ideas of what I may try.  When I set up a regular print job it just stays in the que and does not print.
    Thank in advance.

    Hello szwonders,
I am sorry to hear you are having an issue with printing with your Photosmart 7510. Thank you for your information.
I would like to help you.
I recommend Resetting your Printer first, to see if that helps.
Also, I recommend running HP's Print and Scan Doctor for Windows to search the driver and software to see if there are any issues.
Please respond to let me know if this helped or if you have any other questions!

  • Remote laptop won't print to new HP4622 wireless printer

My new HP 4622 won't print from wife's laptop (Compaq Presario CQ-60-224NR w/ Windows Vista) in another part of the house on my home Centurylink DSL network with very good connectivity.  I have the printer installed at my desktop (Gateway Microsoft XP SP3) and it prints fine from the desktop.  Does the printer software also need to be installed on the laptop?  I sent a .jpg file to the printer from the laptop and it printed one line of unicode? code per page until I cancelled the job from the print queue. I have gone thru the installation guide a couple of times and nothing is fixed.  Test results say that everything passed and install is successful.  I downloaded and tried the print doctor wizard and it says no problems found.  I have McAfee total protection running, could there be a firewall problem?  I'm not sure about enabling ports or that sort of thing.  I dumped a perfectly good Lexmark X7170 all-in-one because it wasn't wireless and we couldn't get it configured to print peer-to-peer.  Now I have a new wireless printer and con't get to print remotely either.  Hope you can help.  Let me know if you need more info.  Thanks.

    Hi Ken,
I would recommend giving the printer a static IP address for the wireless connection (not USB):
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you will have delete and re-add the printer on your computer. Do it this way:
    0. Go to Start > Control Panel > Devices & Printers and delete all instances of the printer.
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. Get its IP from a Network Test printed from the front panel of the printer.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
If you're still experiencing issues try changing the channel on your router to 11 and the encyption to WPA.
Say "Thanks" by clicking the blue Kudos star in the post that helped you.

  • IPad recognizes my hp wireless printer but doesn't print.  Why?

iPad recognizes my HP wireless printer but still nothing happens when I press print.  Why?

If your using the option at the top next to the address bar to print, that the box with the arrow, that only looks for airPrint printers. That will not work on your printer.
They do however have apps that allow you to print to your printer, you just need to get one from the app store (read the reviews before downloading the app).
I use the app "print n share" but I can't recommend that one or say its good or bad, it works for whati need it for that's all. You would need one that does what you need and works for you, that's why I say to read the reviews.

  • HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit and MacBook

    Hi,
I've bought the HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit to connect my printer at the wireless network. That printer is HP Color Laserjet CM1312 MFP. I've set the a static IP on the router settings and for the Windows PC, that are in my wireless network at my home, everything works well.
The problem is about the connection with the MacBook (10.6.8) because there aren't some driver or solution to obtain the access to that printer from a user that isn't on a windows.
Do you have some ideas to help me?
    Best,

Thanks for the post on the upgrade kit.  If you have not already, I might recommend posting this question to the link below.  Good Luck!
