Wireless printing (AirPort Express & Canon LBP 3010) - Help needed!

Hello All,
I have tried to find a solution to my problem in the other topics/post but i couldn't so I created a new one.
I would be very grateful if anyone can give me a solution or at least an advice.
I have purchased a Canon i-Sensys LBP 3010 laser printer (USB connectivity) intending to attach it to the AirPortExpress i already own. I checked that the printer has Mac drivers. I connected it to the EX and installed the driver (downloaded from Canon's website). Then from System Preferences -> Printer & Fax I clicked the add printer button. The dialog fond the printer correctly and displayed it (also found it is located on the airport express port). Now the problem is the system did not select a driver (none) and i couldn't select it myself too (it didn't exist in the drivers' manual selection list). When i disconnected the printer from the airport and connected it directly to the USB port of my computer (Mac Book Pro 17") and repeated the operation (This time using the manual of the printer for guidance) i added it successfully through the More Printers tab and selecting the Canon USB CAPT driver (obviously the one I initially installed)... The printer works fine that way.
Strange thing is, though the computer is recognizing the printer when connected to the AirPortExpress, the AirPort Utility shows NO printers in the list of connected printers to that devise!
So.. what am i doing wrong?

I think you might be in a tough spot with that Canon laser printer. The iFelix list of printers that have at one time worked with an Airport unit does not list the 3010--
http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html
That's not a list of Apple-supported printers. Apple doesn't print such a list, nor does it really promise that any printer will actually work in this configuration. Some do. Many don't.
One thing you might do is to get another computer and connect the printer to that and 'share' the printer over the network. This might yield success, but I can't guarantee anything.

  • Cannot Print Wirelessly thru Airport Express

I've seen this question before w/o an answer. I installed Airport Express, works beautifully and instantly like all Mac stuff. I can print ok from my iMac wirelessly thru Airport Express to an HP Photosmart 8450 connected to the Airport USB port. Then I try to print with my legacy machines (3 IBM Thinkpads w/ Win XP) wirelessly...it just doesn't work. I followed the instructions in the Express manual, created the port connection, etc., nothing. If I connect the USB cable directly to the Thinkpad it prints ok. I checked in the list and the printer is supported.
I've tried to find an answer for this for days. I know many people go thru the same. Hints? Thanks

  • Canon LBP 3010 with 10.6

    Hi all,
I've got a problem with the Canon LBP 3010 printer running in 10.6.8. I tried some drivers (like capt 3.40, UFR II), but it seems it doesn't work. When I plug the USB cable in and try to add the printer, the mac recognizes it but the correct driver doesn't appear in the list. There are related LBPs but not the 3010. I actually wanted to run the printer with Airport Express. Does anybody have an idea what do do??
    Thanks a lot!

Thanks for your additional information. Based on what you have done so far I think it would be best that you remove the CAPT folder and associated files from your Mac and start again.
The CUPSCAPT folder is located in Mac HD > Library > Printers > Canon. You can trash this folder. And if you don't have another Canon laser printer, I also suggest you trash the UFR2 and CUPSCMFP folders.
If you then navigate to Mac HD > Library > LaunchAgents, you will see a file called "jp.co.canon.CUPSCAPT.BG.plist". And since you installed the UFR2 driver, you will also see two other "Canon" files in this folder. Trash all of these files.
With all of these files trashed, restart your Mac and then empty the trash. Now you can install the v3.40 CAPT driver again and see if the CAPT drivers show in the Printer Software window.

  • Best way to extend wireless via airport express and time capsule

best way to extend wireless via airport express and time capsule
i live in a two storey house where i use my airport express to create a wireless network in the main floor, and time capsule to extend it in the upper floor, where my room is. i have like 16 mbps in the main floor, and 2-3 mbps in the upper floor after having speediest.
i used time capsule in the upper floor because i use wireless backup daily and don't want to put internet down while i im doin it and consequently my parent can have internet access in the main floor, am i right? or do i have make just the opposite in order to have a good internet speed?
secondly, while checking airport express wireless mode on airport utility, there is like 4 different type of radio mode(802 11n bg comp, 802 11n 2.4, 802 11n a comp, 802 11n 5ghz) which i have no idea what they mean
    what do you recommend?
we have like iphone4, iphone 3g, mbookpro, ipad, ipad 2, samsung tv and a sony vaio laptop in the wireless network
    thank you

What you have would appear to be working but I can comment how I would redefine your setup.  Note that both Airport Express and Time Capsule can function as wireless base stations so you do have wireless everywhere and at all times — using the Time Capsules for backups doesn’t mean your parents won’t have internet access regardless of the where the base stations are located.
You appear to have devices to connect to your network that use the 2.4 GHz band with 802.11g such as the iPhone 3G and perhaps the 5 GHz band with 802.11n such as likely the Macbook Pro if it’s a recent model.  The iPhone 4 can use 5 GHz and 802.11n.  Can’t comment on the Sony and Samsung but you can check their specs.
Now the Time Capsule (if it’s a recent version), can simultaneously supply 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band signals, but the Airport Express (if it’s recent) can only use one of those bands at one time.  Likely the lowest common denominator for your devices is going to be the 2.4 GHz band since the devices that are capable of using 5 GHZ also support 2.4 GHz.  If you don’t use 5 GHz, you won’t lose much in a two-storey home because likely it’s the 2.4 GHz band is better signal anyway because 5 GHz signals drop off quickly with several walls/floors to penetrate.
You also didn’t mention if the Airport Express is used to support a printer and/or AirPlay (using iTunes to play on remote speakers via the Airport Express connection) but that might also be a factor in the best location to place the Airport Express.  Although the printer could be switched between the Time Capsule and the Airport Express if needed, only the Airport Express will support your remote speakers.
Recommend you use the Time Capsule as the Base station.  When using Airport Utility to define the network, after you name your network, etc., select the Wireless tab, check the box “Allow this network to be extended” and set the Radio Mode to "802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)”.
Using the Airport Utility, click on the Airport Express; after you define the device and network name, select the Wireless tab, define the Wireless Mode as “Extend a Wireless Network” and check the box “Allow wireless clients”.
    Hope that helps.

  • HP Photosmart 8450 printer/airport express

I am unable to get my HP Photosmart 8450 printer to work wirelessly with Airport Express. Does anyone have any suggestions or is this just impossible with this model printer? Many thanks

So there are conflicting reports. Has anyone had success with an Airport Express or Extreme with the C3180 connected directly to it and the newest HP drivers?
I'd really like to know before I go out and buy a new router to then have to deal with the hassle of it not working - and having to buy a new printer would really suck!

I want to use my jetpack 890L as a wireless router to enable wireless printing with a canon laser printer. Is this possible, and does the jetpack support WPS?

I’ve used several wireless printers with a 4510 and 5510 Jetpack and they all print just fine. The MHS890L does not support WPS. The WPS Wikipedia article briefly addresses the reason why you should not use WPS.  If you’re having trouble setting up your printer the manufacturer has a toll free support line to help you. Your Jetpack has the Wi-Fi Password on the bottom, under the battery, and or in the LED display.

No, you cannot seperate the audio and video stream.
You can use optical audio to a sound system (I use sony sound bar) and play the audio via that.

  • Printing wirelessly with Airport Express to HP psc1350 suddenly stopped

I have an imac G5 running OS X 10.3.9. I am wirelessly connected to a router (D-Link 624) to run the internet and am also wirelessly connected to an airport express to print to my HP psc 1350. I set all this up myself and it was running without any problems. However, I decided that it was probably best to add some level of security to my internet connection so added WPA security into the mix. I had to reset the airport express and connect it back up to the network (which took me a little time to work out, but I managed to do it!) and then I tested the printer and it worked perfectly. A couple of days later I needed to print something so turned the printer on again and nothing. I kept getting an error about printer connection failing. So I thought, I'll unistall the HP software and reinstall it from the CD. Nope - the CD refused to install. So, I went to the hp page and found what I thought was the right software, and installed it and that seemed to install but not help the matter. I can see the printer under Rendezvous, but it says "driver not installed". Plugging the printer directly into the imac works fine so the driver must be installed. What I can't understand is that it all worked fine before, and even after I changed the security settings so surely that can't be the problem. But how do I get it back?

I had no choice but to run through the HP installer from the CD - there was no option to install the driver separately. I uninstalled the downloaded software that I had installed thinking it would fix it! The CD is old (well, at least 2 years old) so I don't think there is any chance the software on the installer could be too new. I had previously set up the printer to print wirelessly and it worked like a dream. I am positive that I did not go to that much trouble when I originally installed it - I would have given up! So it seems strange when I go through what I presume I did before that it won't work now. I thought macs were supposed to be easy - I guess it is if it is plug & play, but once something goes wrong it is hard to find what the problem is - especially for non-technical people like me!

  • USB printer not seen wirelessly on Airport Express through Airport Extreme

    Hey everyone,
I just bought an Airport extreme and a new Airport express for my house. I've got the Extreme in the basement where it is sending out wifi and directly plugged into a PS3 and the new Airport Express, which is 2 floors upstairs. The Express is upstairs In my office where it extends my wifi and also plugs into my iMac. I took the USB cable from the Samsung laser printer ('07 SCX-4521) from the back of the iMac and plugged it into the USB port on the Express so I could print wirelessly without having the iMac always on. I changed the settings on the iMac print preferences to now recognize the new location of the printer as being on the Airport Express. I tried to print a page from the iMac and had no problem, however I tried to print from my iPhone 4S and the printer wasn't even listed. I don't have the phone jailbroken, and all software on all machines and accessories are up to date, etc., so is there something obvious they I'm missing here? Can anyone help me out, please? The whole point of the Express was to allow me to print wirelessly and not have to move the printer to a bedroom in the basement.
    Thanks in advance!

Are you saying that the iPhone will print when the printer is connected to your iMac?
Or, will the iPhone not print when the printer is connected to your iMac?
The iPhone will not print when the printer is connected to the Airport Express.
Check this Apple support document to see if your printer is AirPrint compatible.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
If you find that the printer is not on the list of compatible devices, simply connecting it to the AirPort Express will not make it AirPrint compatible.
This is what I was afraid of. I talked to 2-3 Apple employees in the store and they said that most printers that can be used when directly connected to the USB port of a MB Pro, iMac, etc., would also be compatible with the Airport Express and would in turn make the printer AirPrint compatible. Obviously they were totally wrong. The printer itself has to be Airprint compatible and there really is no documentation in the new Airport Express Setup Guide or on the webpage that states that. My printer isn't Airprint compatible, therefore the ability to use this as a network printer on the Airport Express is useless. My only option is to connect it directly to the iMac and keep the iMac running (which is what I wanted to avoid).
Thanks for your help. Hopefully Apple can just come out and say this on the Airport Express box or on the AE website, as I guarantee I'm not the only one who wanted this capability. Other than that, both the Extreme and Express work very well and are simple to use, but I think I'll be taking back the Express as the Extreme's range is great.

  • Printing wirelessly via Airport Express w/ Win XP

Using Airport Express for internet connection and to print wirelessly. Had no problem setting up and connecting with my MacBook, iBook and Win XP computer. Installed Bonjour for Windows and set up printer, was able to print test page. However, every time I print something that is more than a few lines, my Win computer (only) loses network connection. Gains back connection fairly quickly but will not continue to print where left off.
When I installed the Bonjour for Windows, I remember reading something about unblocking certain ports if running firewall. I think that might be the problem but I am unable to find that information again.

  • Printing wirelessly via Airport Express to DSL hub to ethernet printer?

This seems like a fairly standard set up.
My iBook prints just fine when cabled directly to the DSL (Verizon/Westell Versalink 327W) cabled to the ethernet printer, and connects wirelessly just fine through the Airport Express (AX) cabled to the DSL hub, but I can't print wirelessly.
    My questions are:
    - The hub IP is 192.168.1.1, and the printer is 192.168.1.10. I changed the AX IP (Airport Admin Utility: Network) from 10.0.1.1 addressing to 192.168.1.1 addressing, but that didn't do anything. Does this matter?
    - In Airport Admin Utility: Internet, the router address is 10.0.36.1. Does this matter? Should it be 192.168.1.X?
Note: In the Printer Setup Utility, when the iBook is cabled directly to the hub, the printer is automatically identified when I type in the printer IP address under HP Jet Direct Socket, as 'HP Laser Jet 4000 Series' is automatically and correctly selected. This does not happen when connected wirelessly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The problem is that your wireless connection is creating a different subnet. To remedy this, configure the AirPort Express so that the option to distribute IP addresses is DISABLED.
