Wireless printing from a PowerBook G4 through a router to an hp printer

I'm able to hook the usb cable directly to the printer from the powerbook and it prints great.
My hubby and I ran through the mac book and was able to to connect the mac to the router and then at some point it printed, but it was computer language... what could we be missing?
Oh (since this was a while back after giving up) I remember when selecting the printer model we were not given the choice to load a driver...so I'm thinking there lays the problem... however... we went to the website to even download the driver (since this mac should already have the driver preloaded from what I remember reading).... i have no idea if a CD came with it, it we found one and tried there or what... it's been that long since we tried... but then again, I had lunch yesterday and I can't remember what I ate?
Anyone want to try and help? There's a reason why I've got my user name as conehead. wink
chelle
I would like to try this again. Thanks for anything you can give. I've gone through several pages of posts and didn't see anything that could help so now I'm posting my much needed help.

Network printing/Windows printing only works with a driver that was meant for network printing. To use the OS X built-in CUPS network choices, you need a CUPS driver. For postscript printers, this is not an issue, because postscript is the native output of OS X, and can easily be routed to the various choices in Printer Setup.
Non-postscript printers are Very Different. Except for Brother, no manufacturer has provided CUPS drivers. Instead, what you get are Carbon-type, OS9 legacy drivers, that have the comm protocol written into the driver (mostly USB). They can only print via local connection.
**Exception - when printing via an Airport/Bonjour enabled print server (Airport Express/Extreme), where the software does a port redirection, USB output from the Mac gets routed to the USB port on Airport Express/Extreme.
Short version - the driver provided by HP doesn't do network/windows printing.

AirPrint finds any air print enabled printers on your wifi network, and won't find any printers that are not.  So if you print from, say, safari, and it finds that printer, then that is your printer.   It may have a different name than you were expecting.
Turn the printer off, and see if the print job still sees the printer.  That will confirm that the one it sees is yours.
What happens when you send the print job?
If you are sharing a wifi network with others, and one of them has a AirPrint printer on the network, you will see that one.  There is not way to have it forget one, so you will need to know your printer from the other printer, and select the right one.

I was able to register it though.

Not a surprise. The Acrobat 8 product family passed into End of Support back in 2011.

Why can't I print from my iPad 2 to a Bluetooth enabled HP Mobile Printer? My Bluetooth is on and the HP printer shows it's connected?
    Thank you Bruce

Printing via Bluetooth isn't supported, the supported bluetooth profiles are on the page that you posted from. If your printer supports AirPrint then you can print to it via your wifi network.

  • Wireless Printing from my Powerbook G4 to a Linksys Printserver.

I have a small home network using an ATT DSL modem-router. I have several PCs hardwired to the router and 1 older MAC wireless. I have a MAC G4 laptop and a Dell laptop (my wife's) also connected wirelessly and all work well. I have added a Linksys wireless print server today and am able to get my wife's laptop to print easily and reliable as does the hardwired Dell. What I need is to get my MAC laptop to print wirelessly as well. I have tried all the options in the printer set-up but it does not see the print server. Linksys does not support MAC and there are no MAC drivers for the print server to download that I know of. Does anyone know of a fix on how I could configure this equipment so I can print wirelessly from my MAC laptop. I would appreciate it.

There are some sharp gurus there who can help. Basically you need to set up the printer using IP protocol. You need to know the address of the print server. The folks over there can help.

  • TS2634 I cannot print from my ipad. The wireless is connected, I have no trouble printing from my computer. When the ipad looks for the printer it comes back with the message. "Air printer not found" What can I do to correct this? P S Ipad2 is only 1 mont

I cannot print from my ipad. It is connected to the wireless okay. I have only had this ipad for a month and while I am not sure I think it has been okay to print before 2 days ago, when I tried to print and I got the message "Airprinter not found" Has anyone experienced this and if so what did you do about it? I have no trouble printing from my computer.

    I rebooted my Airport Extreme.
Try rebooting your router. Make sure its firmware is updated.

  • Cannot print from pc/windows xp through time capsule

I currently have my hp printer connected to time capsule by usb, internet modem connected to time capsule by ethernet, my pc connected to time capsule by ethernet, and my mac wireless to time capsule.
I'm printing successfully wirelessly from my mac but I cannot get my pc to print. I've run bonjour and restarted pc and still nothing.
    Any suggestions?

I'm running into a similar problem. I recently added a Time Capsule to a mixed-platform network. The TC is configured to extend my existing wireless network, and my HP LaserJet 2015d is connected to the TC by a USB cable. My MacBook Pro found the printer and works with it flawlessly. I downloaded Bonjour Services for Windows this morning, and though Bonjour easily finds and configures the HP LaserJet 2015 it finds on the TC I can't actually print anything. Test pages and everything else generate a less-than-helpful "failed to print" error message.
I'm running Snow Leopard (fully patched) on the Macbook Pro and Windows XP SP3 (fully patched) on my PC.
I found another thread that suggested replacing the name that Bonjour gives the printer with an IP address of 10.0.1.1 (reached using Printer -> Properties -> Ports -> Configure Port (for the TC/Airport printer). That still generates the same "Failed to print" error.
    Thanks!

  • Hi I'm trying to install an HP C4180 printer as net printer through Alicegate router (Thompson technicolor). Printer works ok when connected with USB to Macbook air, but cannot be seen on the printer installation configuration. Mac OSx 10.7 (Lion)

    Hi folks.
From this morning I'm trying to "see" an HP printer C4180 connected on the USB port of the wi-fi router (TIM Alicegate ADSL2 Wifi+N, manufacturer Technicolor).
I installed latest drivers and checked everything is ok and works fine until printer is connected directly with USB to my Macbook Air.
Then I connect the USB to the router and try to find the printer.
On Alice help suggest to find it by ging to system preferences, then printers, add printer with "+", select "windows" sheet. There I can see - not always in reality, but sometimes - the "workgroup" in the left column, select, "alicegate" in second column, select, and here instead of finding the printer list there is a pop up saying that "the server version you are trying to connect to is not supported".
Reading other forums, it may seem that the problem is Lion not yet supporting this kind of connection.
Here a photo of the situation when the message occurs:

  • I can not print from a website I get using Foxfire although I can print from an Internet Explorer website.

When I try to print I get a window that asks me to "Save file as downloads" - xps. I try and it says that an unknown error occurred while printing. Epson says it is not my printer as I can print from Internet Explorer, Outlook Express and Microsoft Works. Do I need some sort of download before I can print with Foxfire? Many thanks.

  • Printing photos from iPhoto 9.5.1 on my printer yeilds garish two color prints. Exporting the photo from iPhoto to desktop then printing from Preview works fine. How can I get good prints from iPhoto?

When printing photos in iPhoto 9.5.1 with my HP inkjet printer the multitude of colors in the photos are reduced to two, Magenta and Yellow. If the photos are exported to my desktop (MacPro) and printed from Preview, the colors in the prints are fine. How do I get iPhoto to print the colors correctly?

    Brad
What settings did you use in the Export Dialogue?
When you go File -> Export you get a tabbed box with various options. In the File Export tab you can choose to scale the pics, or keep them the same size, change or retain the format.

  • I have a Macbook pro thats prints fine to my HP printer, but when I try and print from my iMac it doesnt see the pages and just prints two blank pages. Even thou the document is a number of pages

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500A and I had no problems printing to it from my Mac or Macbook pro. The macbook is wifi and the Mac is cable, I have recently had the printer replaced with an exact model. Since doing that I can only print from the macbook pro, when I try and print from teh mac it doesnt see the pages. It could be a 10 page document and it will just show two blank pages. I have googled the question and have tried deleating the printer and reinstalling without any luck. When I got the new printer I insalled all the latest drivers thats the only thing different.
    Could you please help

Right click the printer in System Prefences -  Print & Scan and use Reset Printing System... and then reinstall the printer, should take less than 5 minutes. Here is a photo showing how to Reset Printing System....
