Wireless Printing w/ Airport Express and HP Printer

I'm running Snow Leopard. Connected my HP 4280 Printer via USB to Airport Express. Presto! Instant wireless printing. Then 3 days later, without changing any settings, I now get "Printer is Offline" message.
I've tried dumping printer driver, and reinstalling new driver downloaded from HP. No luck.
I went to Airport Set Up Utility > Printer > Manual Set Up, and there is no printer listed.
Thanks in advance for any ideas to help me!

I got in touch with HP through their website. They sent me an email with step-by-step instructions. Here they are. Problem solved!
From HP:
Cause for the issue:
This issue may occur due to device or network conflicts.
Resolution:
Before we proceed with troubleshooting this issue, please confirm if the latest printer software (Mac os x 10.6 compatible) is installed on your Mac and the Mac is able to communicate wireless with the router.
If yes then continue with the following steps,
Step 1: Reset the Print System
1. Click on Apple icon
2. Select System Preferences
3. Click on Print and Fax
4. Click on the printer on the left side
5. Press the Ctrl key + click on Your printer icon
6. You will get an option to choose Reset Print system.
7. Click on Reset Print System. This will reset the print system.
Step 2: Repair Disk Permissions
1. On your Mac, click on Go menu from the finder menu bar at the top
2. Select Utilities tab
3. Click on Disk utility
4. Once the disk utility pops up, select the hard drive and click on Verify Permissions tab.
5. This may take some time to complete as the Mac will try to verify all the permissions for the hard drive.
6. Once the Verify Disk Permission is complete, restart the mac.
7. Follow steps 1 – 4.
8. In the 4th step select Repair Disk Permissions. Once the repair disk permissions is complete,
9. Restart the Mac.
Step 3: Re-add the Printer
1. Click on Apple icon
2. Select System Preferences
3. Click on Print and Fax
4. Click on the + sign to add the Printer
5. Select your printer next to which says Bonjour.
6. Click on Add.
Try Printing.

  • I have an Ipad and Iphone but I don't have an Airprint, only a WIFI printer,my question is if I connect the wifi printer to Airport express, can I print from Ipad and Iphone ?

I have an Ipad and Iphone but I don't have an Airprint at home but only a WIFI printer, my question is if I connect the wifi printer to Airport express, can I print from Ipad and Iphone ? Please help me if anyone knows about this.

Unfortunately, connecting a non-AirPrint-enabled printer to an AirPort base station's USB port will not make it AirPrint-ready.
You will need to use another solution, like Printopia, to be able to print to this printer from an iOS device.

  • Will I be able to use my printer which is not wireless with the airport express and will it become a wireless printer ?

I have a wired printer and I need to know will the airport express work with this printer and will I be able to print wirelessly from my IPad ?

Can't print from iPad unless it's AirPrint able...
If it isn't you may want to check out Printopia.

  • Airport Express and network printer

I purchased a new Airport Express with 802.11n and I can configure it properly with no issues with basic functionality. Connecting my HP Photosmart printer via USB cable also works fine. However, connecting it via ethernet connection is problematic.
The Airport Express does not assign an IP address to the printer. I've validated that the printer is functional by hooking it up directly to my network router and making sure that it gets an IP address from it. That worked fine. However, from the Airport Express I get no IP.
Can someone provide some clarity on how to get the Airport Express to assign my printer an IP address? Or am I barking up the wrong tree and I should just settle for the USB connection?

I can't answer your question, but if you watch my post about ethernet networking you may get some helpful advice. My issue is that I can stream music, and use my usb printer fine, but I can't connect my iMac via Ethernet to the Express. Similar problem to you.
I have tried connecting directly using the default Airport address of 10.0.1.1 and variations thereof and nothing works.
And the amber light is still flashing... is yours? perhaps this is significant.
Also, even though I can't print, my printer doesn't show up in the printers list in the Airport Admin Utility. So it definitely sounds as though there is something fishy going on with the Express not seeing things that are attached to it, or something like that.

  • Airport express and network printer setup problem

I could not find and add my network printer in my work place only when network is connected via my airport express. I can see the printer when the network is connected by ethernet cable. Note: the printer I mentioned is not connected to the USB of the AE, it is a separate network printer with a true IP.
Is this a firewall problem in the airport express unit? I have the same problem with my ThinkPad too.

Have you tried putting the printer's IP address into the "add a printer" dialog box IP view of the Print & Fax panel of System Preferences?
It sounds like your AirPort Express is creating another subnet that is making it hard to access the printers subnet. You might try putting the AirPort Express into "bridge" mode.

  • How do I get windows 7 to talk to airport express and thus printer

    Hi
I have tried all day to get a windows 7 laptop to talk to an airport express with no success.
I have installed airport utility 5.6.1 for windows 7 on laptop.
I keep getting an error -6753 comming up in utility 5.6.1 on laptop.
Has anyone any ideas or should I just send airport express back.
    Many Thanks

    Dave,
First you should be posting in the Airport product forums. This is an iMac forum, you have only indicated you have an AEX and a Window 7 laptop but no Mac.
I would recommend using the Airport Utility app for MS Windows, this should make setup extremely simple.

  • USB printer on Airport Express via Bonjour: print queue no longer works

This is a variation of similar postings on this forum, but hopefully provides more information to allow others to pinpoint the problem.
Have been using Intel iMac 10.4.8 now upgraded to 10.4.10. Two printers attached: 1 via USB and a 2nd via USB/Bonjour on Airport Express. Both working flawlessly. 2 days ago, an ADSL Internet outage occurred. When this was reestablished an hour or so later, everything was back to normal, EXCEPT that the USB/Bonjour/Airport printer no longer works. When jobs are sent to it, the printer queue stops and a red "!" appears in the dock on the queue. Restarting the queue just brings back the red "!" again.
Have done all the usual things:
    1. Checked cables, restarted iMac, restarted printer, reset Airport.
    2. Have confirmed the printer works find if moved to a direct USB port. So the problem is not the printer.
    3. Have upgraded the Airport firmware to 6.3. Works just fine as a network access point. So the problem is not the Airport itself.
    4. Have deleted, added the printer, renamed the printer - none of these things helped (this was suggested by some postings on the forum)
    5. Have tried every combination of which item is powered up first (this was suggested by some postings on this forum)
Have confirmed (by checking CUPS Error Log, as well as by Internet Connection Diagnostics) that the problem is that the iMac can no longer connect to the printer when printing on the local host if it is connected via USB/Bonjour/Airport. However, it can find the printer for adding a printer during setup. So Bonjour is working, but the printing is not.
There are lots of similar postings of people having problems with printers previously working, but then stopping working on an Airport Expresss/Extreme. I hope the above scenario, which is a very simple network topology, and the fact that the iMac and printer and Airport all work correctly on their own, is of help. It does look as if the problem is in the Airport Extreme, and was triggered by the WAN outage, and not fixed by printer reinstallation or firmware upgrade.
Looking forward to someone with a clever suggestion...
    LeslieB

What did you use to discover the printers on both Mac and PC. Did you use Bonjour for both?

  • How can I extend my wireless network using Airport Express and an Airport Extreme on BT Infinity?

I have BT Infinity and I am using the Time Capsule with Airport Extreme as my router. Working well (even on wireless). I want to extend the wireless network with an Airport Express, but I cannot work out the settings necessary in Airport Utility. I am using Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on a Mac Pro. Please help!

    BT,
I've read several of your posts, thanks for taking the time to share your wealth of knowledge.
I'm in a situation similar to the one described by 'scoutusmaximus'.  Seeking the flexibility of a standalone router, I finally upgraded my 4-yr old ATT DSL gateway (modem+router) to a Comcast standalone modem + the ASUS RT-AC66U: http://www.asus.com/Networks/Wireless_Routers/RTAC66U/
Typically, I stick with all things Apple but the ASUS router seemed fairly superior to the current-gen base station (on paper, anyway; time will tell when it comes to performance) so, for once, I jumped ship.  My plan was to extend the ASUS wired/wireless network using my TimeCapsule and 2 Airport Expresses in bridge mode, however, a google search turned up several unhappy customers that claim those devices don't play well with non-Apple routers, especially when it comes to 'extending' a network.
    Questions:
    1. Can I successfully extend the wired/wireless network created by the ASUS router using the 3 airport devices listed above w/out negatively impacting performance?  I'd rather have 1 wireless network as opposed to creating a new wireless network with the TC and then extending it with the AP Expresses... though I'd consider that option down the line if it came to that.
    2. Will the LAN ports on the TimeCapsule remain functional?
Btw, my house is wired so, I can reach all 3 devices via ethernet cable coming off of a central, managed switch.  Supposedly, you only lose the LAN ports on the TC if you extend wirelessly.
    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Help - Receive message "an error occurred printing this document" when using airport express and Ipad

Hi, I am trying to set up an airport express hub to work with a Star tsp100 receipt printer and IPad 2. The IPad is being used to accept credit card payments and I was hoping to print receipts out wirelessly using the airport express and receipt printer. I checked to make sure the airport express has the latest firmware and it does. The IPad software is also updated to the latest 7.1.  I then connected the Airport express and IPad and the network setup with no problems. I connected the receipt printer to the airport express using the USB slot available. While the printer comes up as available, when I attempt to print something, I get the error message "An error occurred printing this document" and I can cancel or Try again. No matter how many times I try, I continue to get this message and I lost as to the cause. When I disconnect and reconnect, another instance of the printer appears, but receive the same cryptic error message when I try to print. Totally lost, please help

    Hi kelston3,
In order to print from an iPad you will need to use a printer that is compatible with AirPrint, which is described in the following article -
    About AirPrint
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
AirPrint printers must be wireless on your network - not connected via USB to the base station. There is a list of printers that are known to be compatible with AirPrint in the article.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Brett L

  • Getting an Error:-9672  when trying to add printer through airport express

Hi everyone, I have a canon colour laser printer (LBP5000) works fine when I pop the usb straight in to the mac, but when I try setting it up by plugging the usb into my airport express I get an Error:-9672 this happens when setting up the printer in print & fax system prefs.
I have another printer set up on a different airport express, which works fine.... could this be a problem?
    Any help would be great
    Thanks
    Lee

    Hello Lee,
When you select the LBP5000 in the Printer Borwser > Default Browser view, the Print Using menu should automatically set. If it isn't, and you are having to manually set the printer, then that will be a likely cause for the error (which usually occurs when the wrong driver is selected).
Try turning off the Airport Express and the printer. After a few seconds turn the printer on first and after it finishes making it's warm up sounds, turn on the Express. Now try to add the printer via the Default Browser view.
If that doesn't help, check your Airport Express firmware version. Some previous postees have found that their problems are resolved by updating their firmware on their Airport Extreme/Express.

    Paul

  • Airport Express and the Epson Stylus DX7400

    Hello Experts!
I bought an Airport Express yesterday, and have successfully connected it to my home wireless network - I can see the Airport Express and modify settings wirelessly from my Mac (and indeed a PC as well). So far so good.
I have an Epson Stylus DX7400 printer/scanner. This prints perfectly when directly connected via the USB cable to the Mac (and a PC). Also good news.
However, when plugged into the Airport Express, it is simply not recognised in the Airport Utility and the Airport Utility shows "none" against USB printers where I presume it should show my printer in the list. I have upgraded to the latest firmwire, tried numerous re-boots and re-connections of both the Airport Express and the printer, but it simply does not seem to recognise that the printer is connected to the Airport Express.
Has anyone else has this problem? Is this printer incompatible with the Airport Express? I looked at this unofficial compatibility list (http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html) but the printer is not listed as either compatible or incompatible.
If anyone has in fact got this printer to work with the Airport Express, I'd be interested to know how you did it, please!
    Many thanks,
    Andy.

Are you able to confirm that this is a known issue with the standard printer driver, and that using your Gutenprint suggestion is a known fix for this problem with Airport Express?
Yes. Click here for more information.
If I'm installing Gutenprint on the Mac, and subject to your response on the questions above, will that somehow also help the PC?
    No.
Finally, if you would be kind enough to note some brief instructions of the key steps involved in using Gutenprint to solve my problem, that would be much appreciated!

  • Airport extreme, Airport express and extending

I have an airport extreme connected to internet and an airport express connected to a printer. No matter how I set it up I can not communicate to the printer. I have set up the printer in airport express and it does show up. When I log on to airport extreme and try and talk to the printer I get a communication error. I believe that the extreme and express are not talking. Is there any good documentation on setting this hardware up. Thanks Bob

So the extreme (AEBS) is the main and express (AX) is extending the wireless network?
If that's the case, do you see a stready green light on AX?
If so, the AX has connected to the main network, otherwise, you will see a flashing amber light.
Can you check something for me on the Airport Utility:
Double-click on the AX to open it up, select internet. Does the connection sharing report: "Off Bridge Mode" and grayed out?

  • Extend wireless network with AirPort Express

How to extend the wireless network with AirPort Express and Belkin PlayMax as the primary router ?

  • Airport Express and Canon Pixma IP4500 wireless printing

    Hello,
I bought an Airport Express and set it up as an additional wireless network at an 5Ghz N mode. It's conneted to a Linksys Wireless router modem/router. Internet connectivity is fine from both iMac 24 and MacBook. Both use OSX 10.5.4.x
Airport is set up via USB with a Canon Pixma IP4500 inkjet. When connected directly to the iMac, it prints fine. When I connect the IP4500 to the Airport Express, I get an Error 300 - basically saying the printer is not responding.
The whole point of the Airport Express was a faster network for both wireless printing and playing iTunes wirelessly from the MacBook.
Any tips on what could be a common problem for this printer?
    Thanks

    I had a similar problem
I had to "add a new printer", so one printer refers to the directly connected printer and the other refers to the printer connected to the airport (bonjour).
    Greetings.

  • Wireless printing through Airport Express stops after a few pages

I have a Canon MP780, which I tried hooking up to my Airport Express USB. Installation seemed to work smoothly with the Airport Utility, and it printed a test page just fine. However, when I printed a longer document, something kacked after a few pages (a communications error).
Hooking it up is a hassle (have to go through a wall to get to the AE/DSL modem setup), and I ripped it apart after upgrading the canon drivers to no avail. I'll try it again to get the exact error messages if there's more than a snowballs chance in hades that this might work, but thought I'd at least find out if it's hopeless or not before throwing more time at this.
    Any help's appreciated... many thanks.

There has been similar posts on this forum regarding wireless stability. A few have indicated that there printing was fine until the recent Airport Client Update 2009-002. If you check your System Prefs > Software Update > Installed Software list, have you also run this update?
