Wireless problems in 'high' traffic areas

When using wifi anywhere (uni, cafe), I can obtain a full connection when traffic is low. As more people start to use their computers in the area around me, my wireless starts to dwindle and then disconnects. Is this a common problem, and is it treatable?

Hi sinus.supremus,
Some of this could very well be the router you're connecting to, I know the local WiFi-enabled cafe I visit has a basic, consumer router that anything over 10 simultaneous connections will bog it down to the speed of dial-up. You shouldn't be getting disconnected, though, unless the router is bouncing connections to make room for new ones. I know my old Linksys router use to do that, prior to a firmware update.
Are you having this exact issue across multiple locations?

  • Wireless problem since the "pros" are answering on June 2nd come and answer this

How is there not a recall for this line especially the older ones. Here is my justifiable reason and if anyone else has the same problems key in because the "pros" are looking for today and yesterday only. Then they can't deny that they don't know of any problems with this line.
    Well let's begin.
So you might not admit it buy you most definitely know that there are numerous problems with the tx1000 line. Multiple complaints about people not having wifi work. A little less that have constant BSOD. Some booting black screens. Fingerprint stops working etc.
Well mine is wifi does not work. It hasn't been working since 2-3 years ago, just never got enough time to troubleshoot and complain.
The problems are so widespread that there is even the "hair dryer" trick which I did not try. That is how widespread it is. Maybe you might know of another product that has a trick to it that involves a towel? Yeah that's right another product rid with problems, the Xbox 360. But unlike HP Microsoft has admit to their problems and have extended their warranty as well as refund people who have paid. .
I have complained once every year to see if you finally have a recall but never do. I actually never troubleshooted using your steps before because I just didn't have the time. Well since now I have the time, I have decided to do some major testing. I have bought another laptop obviously not HP. It has a Intel 5300 AGN. So what good way to test than to do some swapping. Put in your broadcam wireless into my other laptop. In 2 seconds Windows Generic Drivers install and get it working. Put in Intel 5300 AGN in the tx1000. Um.... yeah doesn't even notice a new card was installed and still have the amber light. Play around installing drivers for it HP Wireless Assistant. Anything. Even updated the Bios. Nothing makes it work while on my other laptop it works perfectly fine. Not just the Intel 5300 AGN but the wireless card that was in the tx1000. What does this mean? It is a board problem which makes sense because the only reason why people could be losing fuctions one by one such as wireless, fingerprint read, SD card reader and come up with Black Screen booting and constant BSOD is a mobo problem. Why haven't HP recalled this line and treat their customers like customers? I don't know but with a move like this they put many previous customers to stop recommending them. I currently have 2 HP Desktops an HP Printer and this tx1000. The 2 desktops broke one way or another. Thankfully both still in warranty which they then are forced to repair. HP Printer works fine which is a miracle. Not a great printer though.
By the way anyone know what the first result is for google when you type tx1000 and see the list. Drumroll......
     -tx1000 recall
     -tx1000
     -tx1000 motherboard
     -tx1000 specs
     -tx1000 wireless card problems
     -tx1000 problems
What do you know don't you think its odd for this laptop that recall tops everything even tx1000 itself and tx1000 specs. Followed by motherboard probably people looking for a replacement motherboard. And after specs is wireless card problems that is guess what, the problem I have. Followed by the general tx1000 problems.
Because of this I have stopped recommending HPs which I have recommended for a long time especially on the printer side. People ask me Dell or HP and I would tell them HP now I say do you have to choose between those two? If you do then go with Dell but ASUS are making some great laptops. For printers I have started recommending EPSON, which I just love their Artisan line.
To show you how widespread this is I have attached a petiton which I did not start but I found.
    http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/hp_tx1000_problems/
If you have problems with this line sign the petition even though I am 99% sure it won't do anything. But it will just show others what kind of company HP is. Better yet though reply to this on HPs own forum to show the problems of their tx1000 line
At the time of this posting there are 224 complaints and remember those are just people who found the petition and actually signed it thinking it would have done something. Most probably found it but didn't even bother because what would an online petition do right?
    /end rant
Well if you read all this Thank You for your time I guess.
Haha tried to add problems to tags and they don't allow it. What is that?
Bunch of links to problems of same kind posted on HP forums.

Hmmm lets see 3900 have signed the petition. At say $1500 for each computer. Thats about $585,000! I wonder how much the recall would cost?  VS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctHTF3oNdxI HP Got your money that do not care about there customers or support. Best thing you can do is keep an eye out for a class action suit and try the penny fix.

  • Why does Letchworth State Park have no service at all.  High traffic area.  Lots of tourists.

Letchworth State Park in NY is call the Grand Canyon of the east.  It has 3 high falls and a huge canyon.  Very Popular tourist attraction.  Lots of people traffic.  Dangerous area.  14 year old fell off a 200 foot cliff last week and died.  How did they summon help.  Not through Verizon.  No service at all through out 80% of the park.

The reason is regulatory interference. For many years people who live in the Adirondack Park Corridor also had zero cell service. Most do not even today. But Verizon does have two towers there now.
Slow progress. In fact they are made to look like big trees because the residents did not want the towers showing.
In your location it is probably the same issues. Towns and villages or even New York State  just won't approve placement of towers.
It is the same all over.
Remember the state putting emergency phones on highways and other areas that had no cell service? Then spent millions removing them? Then put them back for millions more tax dollars due to people yelling for their return.

when i take a call or dial a call in the high density traffic area or noicy area i can't hear properly so at that time i put my phone in the loud speaker mode.

I have had this happen to me on 3GS, 4 and 4s.   Usually the solution is one of the following:
1-  If  your volume indicator says  headphones even though they are not plugged in, then:
Stick your headphones into the headphone jack and then remove quickly.
    2. If that does not work Power your phone off. Then when restarting Reset the phone by pressing the home button and the power button at the same time until the apple logo appears.
    3. Make sure you have not chosen to send audio to an Airplay device such as Apple Tv.
Hope one of these works for you

  • High Traffic Call Try Your Again Later. Have solution?

    Hi people
I saw n discussions about this theme but somebody found some solution definitive?
I see this problem with Callmanager 6x and 7x and I cannot solve this message on IP Phones.
    Thanks
    Peterson

    Hi guys...
i also faced this issue today and going to apply this solution for see if fix it..
    you can try this aslo...
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_tech_note09186a008091c1dc.shtml
Cisco 7900 series IP Phone users do not receive a dial tone from Cisco CallManager, and the High Traffic Try Again Later error messages appears on the phone display when they go off-hook. This document discusses how to troubleshoot this issue.
    Problem
Cisco 7900 IP Phones do not receive a dial tone from Cisco CallManager and instead receive a reorder/busy tone when the phone goes off-hook. The High Traffic Try Again Later error message appears on the LCD display of the IP Phone.
    Note: This issue occurs intermittently.
    Solution
The High Traffic Try Again Later error message that appears on the IP Phones indicates this issue:
Whenever the LowPriorityQueueThrottlingFlag Cisco CallManager service parameter is set to TRUE and the Low Priority queue is over the limit specified by the LowPriorityQueueThrottlingMaxCount Cisco CallManager service parameter, the High Traffic Try Again Later error message appears on the LCD display of any IP Phone that is registered to this Cisco CallManager server and that attempts to go off-hook and make a new call. By default, this message appears on the phone if the Low Priority queue gets deeper than 20 signals.
Generally, the Cisco CallManager works fine as long as the Low Priority queue does not get higher than 100. Therefore, if you never see the Low Priority queue go higher than 75, you can configure the LowPriorityQueueThrottlingMaxCount = 100 Cisco CallManager service parameter in order to overcome this issue.
It is also recommended to check the CPU utilization and the disk space usage. If they are high, you need to clear the hard disk space and shrink the CDR/CAR database.
    Warm Regard's

  • Any advice of high-traffic WS usage?

I read the Guide of WS in R17, and still I try to figure out the best approach.
We have a Web site that uses OD Integration services on back-end. Web users are not OD users - so the server uses a pre-configured user account to connect to OD WS.
Since all Web requests are processed by different threads, the sessions cannot be exactly shared, so I understand one needs to have some common connection, which is used synchronously.
And we use "stateful" session: some oprations like inserting many records, etc., as I understand are designed for stateful sessions.
Now, if we would have high traffic with hundreds of requests - and request may take a second or two to execute - that will definitely slow down every Web user.
What's others' experience? How would you design such site? Have a connection pool - but aren't we limited to one session per OD user? Run several requests from different threads - but isn't it not recommended? What are those "queued requests" (5 max) the Guide talks about?
    Thank you for sharing ideas.

    Hi
I had exactly the same problem with SmartSync! I had tried everything and the only way to solve this problem if you restore your phone AS A NEW iPHONE. If you do a simple restore that will not solve the problem, tried it! Above you can read my comment where I shared my experiencies! Here it is again:
    Hi,
Yeah it is quite annoying! It did reminded me to the old windows times... But I guess it is the smartsync app that somehow chrashes the ios or something. I am not sure. But finally, nothing worked for me and nobody could help me. So finally I had to do a restore and restore it as a new iPhone. What of course delete every personal things from your phone but I just realized that in the age of iCloud it is not that a big problem I mean my contacts where synced with icloud without a problem and because of in my itunes i had all my preveious apps, it wasnt that hard either to put them back to my phone! So it is not an end of the world thing. Took maybe 1 hour to have my phone back. Oh yeah, and after doing this, the problem disappeared so it works great again! But might wanna go back to appstore and leave some nice ratings about this app because for me it seems causing the problem!
good luck! and dont use smartsync any more btw, i found an other app called Syncy what basically does the same as smartsnyc, only with out crashing your phone

  • More on wireless problems with 10.4.8+

There has been much said and discussed about wireless problems with the Macbook's with 10.4.8+ updates, both the C1D and the C2D macbooks have seen problems with a number of units.
Unfortunately, it is very hard to find real information on this website, because the forum is drowned in "wireless problems!" posts from people that have not read the previous posts.
Since there may be several unrelated wireless problems around, I'll try to specify my particular problem and add in solid information, so others can check if their system behaves like mine.
    First. The symptoms:
    1. The Macbook does not connect to WEP or WPA networks after sleep or being shut down.
    2. The Wireless icon blinks between black and grey.
    3. The Apple support information about deleting all networks and keychains WORKS, but only until next sleep or shut down. Afterwards the procedure has to be done again to connect (very annoying).
    4. This may be unrelated, but Keychain Access crashes on startup and can only be run in Rosetta.
First, we need to establish a few things
    1. The problem is real and is not limited to a particular Access Point (I have had problems with both a D-link 624+ and now a Netgear DG834GT from Sky Broadband.
    2. The problem exists with 10.4.8 and 10.4.9 but not with 10.4.6 or 10.4.7. This I have tested multiple times.
    3. It really does not matter if I use WEP or WPA.
Now. /var/log/system.log does actually output an awful lot of stuff during this.

So I get the same problems with a D-link DGL-4300,
after every sleep I need to reset the router to get
thw wireless working again. I really need a solution
    for this.
For me, resetting the router does not work, only removing network from Airport preferences and re-adding it. Have you confirmed that this is indeed the same issue by looking what gets printed to /var/log/system.log?
To show the output, do the following from the terminal
    sudo cat /var/log/system.log
This prints the contents of the log-file to the terminal window.

  • U300s wireless problems (multiple)

I have had my U300s just over a year now and am suddenly encountering wireless problems.  Like others on this board with different IdeaPads (esp. U310), I experience a dramatic drop in speed when I move from the first floor (where the router is) to the second.  It sometimes disconnects, says I have no internet access, etc.  The second, and more mysterious problem is very, very recent: I have decent internet access -- even when upstairs on the second floor -- until the moment I switch over to an external monitor and close the laptop lid.  Then: nothing.  All other functions work fine, the internet simply cuts out.  This is VERY odd, as up until one month ago in a different apartment (and for a good 8 months), I worked everyday with my laptop connected to an external monitor, lid closed, with no real problems (only the occassionaly slow internet).
Just for the record: I originally thought the wireless cutting out might have to do with my wireless mouse (previously, I had a corded).  So I hunted down an old, corded mouse and...makes no difference.  Clearly not the source of the problem.
I know some people have had problems with their wireless after installing Windows8.  I am still using the original Windows7.
    Thanks for any help!!

Sorry, no. I have been overwhelmed and distracted by a new problem: my keyboard's space bar, enter key, and back space key are not working. It started off as an occassional glitch last week (when I shut down and turned the pc back on, the problems were usually also gone) but now I can press as hard or frequently as I am able and nothing happens.  Or if it does, it is a total fluke, not to happen again any time soon. And it makes no difference if I put it into sleep or shut it off and start it back up. I don't know what to do! Is this a hardware problem or...?

  • How to use OraSession for a high-traffic IIS/ASP site

    Guys,
I am running into scalability issues with our production web server. The ASP requests queued keeps growing to crash the IIS eventually atleast once a day. We don't have any custom COM components and we believe database is not the bottleneck.
We are using one OraSession object in the Application scope as follows:
    <OBJECT RUNAT="Server" SCOPE="Application" ID="OraSession" PROGID="OracleInProcServer.XOraSession"></OBJECT>
    Sub Application_OnStart
    OraSession.CreateDatabasePool 1, 120, 600, "TEST", "scott/tiger", 0
    End Sub
We are calling OraSession.GetDatabaseFromPool(9000) whenever we need a database connection. I believe this object since it runs on single thread is unable to handle too much load.
What's the best way of using OraSession/OraServer/OraDatabase objects for a high-traffic web site? The documentation doesn't have enough information. One interesting statement was that "Calling openDatabase method and attaching multiple user sessions(OraDatabase) after an OraServer object is created is useful with IIS like n-tier distributed environments" What does this mean?
    I appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    Krishna

    Hi iLac,
I'm not sure what you meant by reverse engineering the browser's interactions with the site, but anything you can do within a browser you can feasibly do through scripts without resorting to a GUI. I'll mention a few tools that will help you out and briefly describe how you can use them to achieve what you want, although a bit more of a specific question may help. Anywhoo...
First up I'd recommend Firebug for Firefox. A great tool that will let you visually inspect different elements of a rendered page in your browser to see the source code underneath. It also allows you to edit the page so you can test form input. (For example changing a Post to Get request to see the syntax.
Next is "Live HTML Headers" which is also an addon for Firefox. Setting it to record and then clicking on a link will log all interaction between your browser and the website (eg. cookies, browser/system info, redirects etc.). You can really see what is going on behind the scenes.
Finally you are going to want to use cURL which is a command line tool in the Terminal. Here is a like to a tutorial which will cover what you need [[http://curl.haxx.se/docs/httpscripting.html]] Basically cURL can interact with websites and download the source code for you (you will have to spoof cookies, and all other session info which could be a little difficult depending on the site, if you have to log in etc.).
And that is about it. Using those three resources you can get anything off the web you can get with a browser. You just need to write an applescript to run the right cURL commands and extract the info from the HTML.
If you have any other questions or need clarification or more help feel free to ask. Perhaps with a bit more detail on what exactly you are trying to achieve. My experience comes from auto updating homemade sports pools.
    Good Luck.

  • Safari struggles with high traffic websites.

As the title really. If I go onto a website that has a lot of traffic then Safari struggles and doesn't load the page. This site being one of them. I have a fairly decent broadband speed but if I use the superfast WiFi in the local apple store then I don't have a problem. If Safari struggles then it causes my iTunes music to skip when played at loud volumes. I was in the kitchen yesterday and had my music turned up full and the song started skipping really badly follwed by my left speaker popping and totally dying.
    All this since downloading Lion.

When I go to high traffic sites it works for a minute or two but once it stops working the only way to get it working again is to reboot my MacBook Pro.

  • Wireless Problems: Observations/Possible Fix for Some (No Guarantees)

    Hi All:
I have been following our wireless problem threads. To a large extent, they revolve around lost connections, weak signals, etc. On my machine, I previously noticed what appeared to be wide fluctuations in signal strength, although I could almost always pick up one distant network that has to be at least 125' away regardless of my apparent signal strength. Also, I never lost my connection. I also have noticed that my Windows notebooks pick up more networks than my MBP, even though some must be farther away than 125'.
Recently, I had to reinstall all my software. Once resolved I'll explain why and what to look out for. Anyway, before the reinstall, I had done all updates. When I reinstalled, I also did all updates. The bottom line is that I have not seen the wide fluctuations in signal strength since reinstalling. Sometimes I see more networks than I am used to seeing.
Am I suggesting that you reinstall to eliminate the types of problems mentioned above? Definitely not especially if your problem is pretty minor. However, if your problem is significant, then think about it. Perhaps a greater than expected number of partially bad factory installs accounts for some of our problems.
I finished my reinstall only about 24 hours ago. I'll continue to monitor and will post back if I begin to see the wide signal strength fluctuations again.

Nope, thanks. I certainly advocate all trying any possible fixes prior to taking the drastic step of reinstalling. Hope the update works for all. I must of installed it yesterday with a number of other updates. Thus, it wasn't what "fixed" my system. But, it looks like it didn't hurt it either. Both are good to know:) Gosh, and looking at some of the recent posts in this category, I am glad that none of the recent updates hosed anything on my machine. Then, I'd me reinstalling again and being more selective about the updates.
I have to admit I have been throwing caution to the wind on doing all the updates. I think I'd better go back to my old style of seeing if there are update rumblings before I install them.

  • Mac OS X 10.4.9 Fixes Wireless Problems?

A few months ago, I had to downgrade from 10.4.8 because when I left the wireless on overnight, I would find it would be disconnected in the morning, and unable to reconnect without turning AirPort off and on again. This also happened when I was generally working away - first I would loose connectivity, and a few minutes later, the AirPort status icon would show I was disconnected. I'm now running 10.4.5 after noticing the problem starts with 10.4.6, but I was wondering if the latest version, 10.4.9, fixed this problem? So basically - does anyone who used these other versions and had the problems find that they are now fixed? If so, I'll finally download the update - but for the moment I'll stick with what I've got.
    Thanks,
    Robert

The wireless problems are not operating system specific, contrary to popular belief. They are specific to issues of bad firmware on the access points, loose wireless cards, or interference from external sources, or third party software that plays havoc with the wireless drivers. Here's my guide* to attempting to resolve most wireless problems. While I titled it 10.4.8, it has been found to affect not just 10.4.8, by every version of Mac OS to some extent and Windows too when certain issues are happening.

  • Detailed Console Logs For the Wireless Problem

So I'm yet another victim of the mysterious Macbook wifi problem. Have been for several months.
Anyway, I dropped into console, narrowed the search to 'airportd' and tried to activate AirPort from a problem spot in the house.

Just for a recap... This problem happens anywhere I go, basically when I'm not in the same room as the access point. I've tried dropping AirPort from the configuration pane, I've changed the MTU, I've flashed the PRAM more times than I can really count.
I'm not that great with the internals of these things but maybe one of you knows what exactly the error codes mean.
I've also tried using the wireless under bootcamp in Windows XP, I have the same problems. Last night I tried the latest Ubuntu Live-CD installer and the wireless problems persisted, so I'm guessing something in one of the updates messed up the hardware.
Can anyone else try to replicate this?
I called the nearest Apple store and the Genius I talked to said that I was the first time he had heard of this problem. Anyway I figure it might be useless but I'm going to make an appointment with them and try to replicate the problem in-store.

Don't pay any attention to anything you see here or on the rest of the Internet, especially when it concerns Apple. What looks like "a ton" is really only a handful of people. And you have no idea what they have done to their machines. There are several million other people who have no problem at all or are smart enough to diagnose a hardware problem on their own and take it in to Apple.
What you have already done in this thread is much, much better information than the average "me too" post you will find. No one posts diagnostics. No one makes an attempt to diagnose the problem. No one make an appointment to have Apple look at the machine. I've seen it over and over again. They just want to rant.
I suspect you will be up and running while all the "others" are still ranting.

  • Wireless Problem Lexmark x9350

This is my second post and yet again i have a problem with my wireless printer. Although my last post was about Samsung clx-2160 ( it has blown up now ) we are using a lexmark x9350. The printer is connected to my desktop via usb. I also have a modem/router.
For some reason after several attempts i was able to print wirelessly, but for some reason i cant anymore. This is the msg that i get promted, " There is a problem communicating with the printer.Make sure the printer is powered on and connected to the computer. Delete or hold the job and try again. The printer is busy. Try printing again after the current operation has finished."
Please someone help with a walkthrough steps. As i need my laptop for work and i have several documents that i need to print.
Really appreciated the help i got last time, hoping that i can have the same assistance.

    Solved - maybe.
Apple updated my Lexmark printer driver in early February, 2011, and broke my printer (again...). My x9350 had been working well for the last 6 months or so (since their prior printer driver update, in (?) August 2010, except for occasionally refusing to "wake up" to be available on my wireless network after long periods (several days) of non-use. I would turn the printer off and on to fix that problem.
After the Feb 2011 update, my printer and MacBook Pro (w/ OSX 10.6.6) would not communicate, according to the messages in my printer queue. The message from the queue was "Unable to read CUPS raster data". Despite the message, I was able to log in to the printer directly over my network, and my router's browser-based configuration software showed apparently correct settings. Thus, the problem was with the printer driver in OSX, and not a network problem. The symptoms are exactly the same as what was happening prior to the Summer 2011 update.
Based on web research and a lucky guess, I used the CUPS configuration tool to revert back to the prior driver version and fixed the problem. Here's how:
From your browser, open the CUPS page at http://localhost:631/
    Click the "Printers" tab
Find the entry for 9300_Series<MAC address> and click it
Click the "Administration" drop down box and click "Modify Printer"
Wait a few seconds for the network to be searched
Click the radio button under "Other Network Printers" for "LPD/LPR Host or Printer"
    Click the "Continue" button
In the text box which appears, replace the entry "lpd" with "lexnet3://your printer's IP address:1"
Click "Continue" and ensure the next page shows the address you just entered in the "Connection" entry
    Click the "Continue" button
On the next page, the "Model" box shows several printer drivers; at this point I just guessed and picked the driver 2nd on the list (immediately below the highlighted driver), and then clicked the "Modify Printer" button.
You can confirm the driver was changed by opening the printer queue via Apple Menu->System Preferences->Open Print Queue->Printer Setup; under the "Driver" tab, you will not see an entry for "double Sided ink drying time" (or something like that) if you have reverted back to the old driver (pre-Feb 2011).
It worked for me - YMMV.
