Wireless reception ok, but no Internet connection

I'm staying at my aunt and uncle's house, and they set up a wireless router so that I could get Internet on my laptop. Once it was up, it worked fine for about a week. Then yesterday my Internet stopped working. My Airport icon shows that I'm still connected to the network and getting reception, but nothing Internet-related will work; everything says "Server not found."
I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting, restarting both computers, reentering the connection info, and running Network Diagnostics, but nothing's worked. That's about as much as I know how to do.
My aunt and uncle have a PC (which is still working fine), their wireless router is an Actiontec GT704WG, and they use Verizon. Help!
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

YES I reset the router and it's working again. (I'm embarrassed I didn't think of that... XD) Thank you so much/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png

The only people who can possibly assist you with this is Apple Customer Relations, call your local Apple contact number and ask for Customer Relations then explain your situation clearly and politely (be firm but don't rant).
You might want to investiage what the local laws are regarding defective goods and 'fit for use' definitions on warranties etc. Consumer Protection can be a useful tool to use or bargain with if needed ...

  • Connected to network, but no internet connection

Just returned from a one week trip to CA with my macBook. Prior to the trip everything regarding a connection to the internet worked fine... I have an Airport Extreme network set up at home. For the first five days of my trip, everything worked fine as well. Connected to several different open networks (offered by hotels and Bed & Breakfasts (B&Bs). Then suddenly I could not get an internet connection with any browser (Safari, Firefox, Flock). At one particular B&B it worked flawlessly one evening, then the next morning at the same B&B, no internet. Yet I was connected OK to the open network. Moved on to another city, a different hotel and network, same problem. I was connected to the network, but no internet connection. In Safari, the blue bar would get as far as the http:, then it would hang there. Now having returned home to my Airport Extreme network, everything seems to be working fine again in all browsers. Any idea what I may have encountered for those two days? I have another trip planned in the near future, and would hate to have this happen again.

I'm sorry but I'm not posting to answer your problem but just to say that I have a very similar issue when connected to my home network through either wireless or ethernet- connection is erratic and pages hang despite showing an excellent signal strength. I have a divided drive and have windows installed on my Macbook. I have no problems on the windows side. My friends who have ipods and iphones have similar problems connecting to my home network. I have no problems connecting wirelessly to any other network that I've tried. This is a real shame as I want to use Mac software but end up in Windows all the time. Any light anyone can shed on this would be very welcome.

  • Airport network connected on full bars but "no internet connection" and missing lock icon!

    this is really frustrating!
I'm using wireless in my house. when i click on my network it connects and it shows perfect connection which is full bars.
on Network Preferences it says that i'm connected to the Airport but when i go to Safari it shows "You are not connected to the Internet" so i click on Network Diagnostic where the 3 network status on top has the green indicator but the ISP, Internet and Server show red and failed.
I don't think there's anything wrong with my internet connection since I'm able to go online using my sister's computer and also on my iPhone.
There's also usually a Lock icon/symbol next to my network's name but when i'm connected to my network the Lock icon seems to be missing but it still shows full bars connection. I really don't get how it's possible to be connected to a network, but no internet connection, while i can access the internet on other devices.
Please help me out here. I've tried ways like going to library>preferences then put the system configuration into Trash, and going to Network Preferences and removing the Airport service and creating a new one.
and one more thing. all mentioned above are when i clicked on Advanced on network preferences then i clicked on TCP/IP and changed the Configure IPv4 from Using DHCP to Manually. When i'm back to using DHCP there's an exclamation point over the airport icon on the top bar and it says no internet connection.

Got my own question answered by a colleague.
He had me create another "Location" in the network pane of System Preferences, then choose it and click Apply. I created a new location which I called 'Airport', chose it and clicked Apply and sure enough, an IP address showed up and all is well.
Justin said it's a network bug in Leopard.

  • Airport Says It's Connected -- But No Internet Connection...

    This is driving me mad...
We're using Airport to connect a 12" PowerBook G4 (10.4.11) to a WirelessLAN (the modem is an Arcor A300 WLAN -- a German make)
We had been having no problems until it one day said "you are not connected to the internet".
I've tried all the restarting the modem rigamarole, and the PB can connect via Ethernet. Opening Internet connect, Airport signal strength is 100%, it states that it's connected to the Arcor modem.
Under System Preferences / Network it states "You are connected to the internet via Airport"
Also, I can see the PowerBook mounted in My Mac Pro's Finder...so it must be connecting wirelessly to the Arcor box --- My Mac Pro is connected to the Arcor Box via Ethernet cable.
Anyone got any ideas, suggestions as to what's going on?
    TIA,

I am having a very similar problem with one of the iMacs here at our office on AirPort. We have four machines using an Airport Extreme, but only one has this issue--a full set of connection bars and access to everything else that is shared, but the internet connection keeps dropping every 15-20 minutes and won't reconnect. From the Airport icon we turn off the Airport, then connect again and it works fine for another 15 minutes until it quits again. I finally had to use a cable to hard-connect that computer to our network and now it works fine, so it can't be the computer itself.
What to do? I'm afraid this problem will start with the other machines, as well. Can anyone assist?

  • Airport Express signal fine but no internet connection

We have been using an Airport Express for wireless Internet access and recently are unable to connect to the Internet. We use a Comcast cable modem, through a Linksys router, to the Airport Express. We can connect by network cable to the router and access the Internet, but are unable to connect wirelessly. We are getting a signal from the Airport Express (the light is green), but no Internet connectivity. We have restarted and done a hard reset (holding the reset button while plugging the Airport Express in) of the Airport Express, but it did not seem to help. The hard reset did not result in resetting the settings, so perhaps there is another way to reset it or perhaps there is another problem.
    Has anyone had similar problems?

I tried power cycling the cable modem, downloading new firmware (why didn't Software Update tell me about this?), deleting the DNS servers, hard reset of AirPort Express, factory reset of AirPort Express, fiddling with AirPort Admin Utility, fiddling with AirPort Setup, all of the above in different order and different combinations, and it still would not work.
Power cycling the cable modem was one of the first things I did, and that resulted in getting Internet connection through the cable modem onto the ethernet cable; just no Internet through AirPort. Finally, after a factory reset of the AirPort Express did not help, I decided to power cycle the cable modem again, even though I had already just confirmed again that I was getting the Internet through the ethernet cable. Once the cable modem finished the power cycle, it finally worked! I was back on the Internet via AirPort!
I'm not exactly sure which solution fixed it for me, but I suspect that it didn't work at first because I did not power cycle the cable modem afterwards. In other words, if after changing AirPort settings you still are not connected to the Internet, try power cycling the cable modem. Do this every time for each change you make to the AirPort settings.
The other thing I learned is that unplugging the cable modem from the wall power outlet or turning off the power strip will NOT power cycle the cable modem properly. Instead, you must remove the power cord from the cable modem. I tried all three of these methods and for whatever reason, the only time it worked was by removing the power cord.

  • How to use time capsule for wireless back-up but not internet?

    Hello,
I have a tower and recently a laptop at work. The tower is connected to our local network with an ethernet cable and the laptop with wireless. So, the internet connection is fine for both.
I was hoping to use my time capsule to do time machine backups on my laptop. Do you have any advice on how to configure this? I do not want to use the time capsule to extend my Internet, as I believe my work I.T. would prefer to handle all access to their  network.
Perhaps there is some documentation about doing this that you could point me to? I have not been able to find it.
    Thank you for your help.

Your original question was How to use Time Capsule for wireless back-up but not Internet?
There is no reason for you to connect the tower....or anything else...using Ethernet if your goal remains that same as you stated.
If you are asking if you can backup the Tower using Ethernet, and not wireless, then you can connect the tower to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule....not the WAN port.
Yes, it appears to work without plugging into my tower.
    Correct, it will work.
I just have to select the network that it created. Of course, I have no access to the Internet while this is happening and it can not auto backup, unless I am on that wireless signal.
As I stated, that is the downside to trying to back up without an Internet connection.  You have to establish another network...and backup over that network.
If you are asking if you can stay connected to the work network while also backing up to your non-Internet "private" network, that is not possible.

  • Wireless router WRVS4400NV2 says "No internet Connection"

I am having trouble with connecting to the Internet through the router.  It has worked for 4 years now and all of a sudden it is not working at all.  I was wondering if someone can point me in the direction to getting reconnected.  I have an Internet connection directly to the modem, and I can connect and log into the router admin panel, but it will not allow me to access the Internet through the router either wirelessly or by connecting directly to the router.  All the lights come on and flash like normal and I have done a factory reset and still nothing.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  This is kind of urgent but understand not to press my luck
    Thanks
    Erik

    The_Peacedog,
The modem is a Motorola DSL modem, although, I don't know the model.  I do know that everything works up to the router; wires, modem, etc. as it has all been checked and used for that matter.  The windows version is windows 7, it was hardwired to two computers and 5 other computers/devices were connected wirelessly.  I reset the router to factory and updated the firmware.  All the lights come on, on the modem and look like everything is working, you can connect to the router but no Internet connection.  I am wondering, thought, it was on a really good surge protector not just a power strip but we were experiencing power surges and one night of lighting.  The power surges were different events as they happened on normal days.  Could that have still messed up the modem?
    Thanks for your time,
I hope this is enough information

I too am running xp spiii on my mac with lion. However I installed xp while running snow leopard then upgraded to lion and both are running fine. If you have the support disc that came with the imac all the relevant drivers are on there. The only other thing i would suggest is that you get spiii and upgrade to that.

I don't know about Growl as I've never used it. But I'd remove anything that might involve your internet connection. To remove Growl: http://growl.info/documentation/growl-package-removal.php
In my earlier post I asked do you have any Anti Virus software installed?
Do you have access to another computer so you could download another browser, perhaps onto a USB stick and then install it on your Mac just to see if the problem is Safari specific:

  • Is it possible to print wirelessly (WITHOUT A WI FI INTERNET CONNECTION) .Using my ipad 3 to an HP air printer.

Is it possible to print wirelessly (WITHOUT A WI FI INTERNET CONNECTION) using my ipad3 and a HP air printer ?.

    Christina,
The purpose of the AirPrint system was to permit printing directly from iDevices to printers that are AirPrint enabled without going through an intermediary device.  The catch is the printer must be an AirPrint enabled printer.  The iPad's apps will then recognize the printer and print seamlessly.  Follow the link Demo gave you to see the specifics from HP since that is the printer you asked about using.

Installed Snow Leopard OK, but when uploading the Mac OS X Update Combined, it would not save. It said it could not connect to update server, but my internet connection is working. Any suggestions on fixing?

Run software up date, write down the update name and version. Go to the Apple site and do a search for the updates one at a time and download them one at a time. Use an ethernet connection, sometimes software update "crushes large updates. I have experienced this before.  Hope it helps.  ATB

  • LinkSys Wireless Card connects to "Access Point" but no internet connection

I have 2 LinkSys wireless cards. one is 802.11g, the other b. The signal for the Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi Wireless Base Station is very strong, but when I try to connect, it says "You are connected to the access point, but the Internet cannot be found". No internet access, and I can't ping anything (Ping request could not find host...). And of course the printer hooked to the AirPort is also not recognized. My iMac and Macbook both have no problems connecting to the network. There is no problem with ethernet connection to the Airport. Is it possible to have a compatibility problem between the Linksys and Airport hardware? I thought as long as they were were compatible 802.11, they would work together. The cards had no problem with my old DLink router or other hotspots in the city. Is there a set-up I missed for setting up the PC-based cards with the AirPort?

    Is your wireless network secured?
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • Windows 7 Laptop Has Wireless Access but No Internet Connection

    Dia duit!
Okay, I have been called to the rescue concerning my mother's HP laptop again, and for once I cannot for the life of me resolve the issue.  The machine is running Windows 7 because friends don't let friends run Windows 8.  She has a wireless network
connection, but no internet access when she is in Normal Mode.  However, she does have access in Safe Mode with Networking.  I brought my own laptop over when I came to visit, and it connects to the wireless with no trouble.  My mother has tried
three different web browsers-- Firefox, Chrome, and IE-- so it doesn't seem to be a browser issue.
    WHAT I'VE TRIED THUS FAR:
Naturally, given that it worked in Safe Mode, my first thought was a possible malware infection.  In Safe Mode with Networking, I ran Malwarebytes and Combofix.  Sixteen infections were found and removed, but none of them were particularly nasty.
Afterward I used CCleaner's registry scanner to take care of several registry issues.  I then completely shut down and rebooted the computer back into Normal Mode.  The same issue still persisted.
I then removed and added the wireless network connection under Network and Sharing Center>Manage Wireless Networks.  The laptop still had no internet access.  I toggled the wireless switch off and back on.  No dice.  In desperation
I finally reset the IP and DNS (cmd /c "ipconfig /release" and cmd /c "ipconfig /renew.")  It still didn't fix the problem.
I have never seen this issue when one of the above measures didn't resolve it, so I would be extremely grateful for any advice.

    Hello,
    A few things to try:
    1.  Did you check Device Manager to see if the wireless adapter is listed and is enabled?
    2.  Did you try to un-install the wireless adapter and have the laptop scan for new hardware?
    3.  Is there an icon in the systray for the wireless network connection and if so, what is its state, bars or no bars with the "No" symbol?
    4.  Is Windows or another utility controlling wireless connections?
    5.  Can you hook it up via a wired connection and check HP's site for updated drivers?
