Wireless Router Installation CD won't open

Trying to install a netgear WPN 824 wireless router on my Imac 17, the installation disk won't open. I am installing the router for use with a PC laptop.
Thanks

You probably don't need the CD. Just plug a network cable (should have come with the router) from your Mac to the router. Use one of the numbered ports.
Then open up your browser (Safari, Firefox, etc...), you'll get an error message that page could not load, or something like that.
Depending on the router, you might have to look at the quick, guide, type in the default IP address of the router in the address line. Example: 192.168.0.1 -or- 192.168.1.1
It will then take you to a Netgear page, and the Wizard should start for you.
Hope that helps a little,
AL

Of course I can't throw it away since I get a message it's part of the sytem. I can show package contents and throw those away, but evidently not a good idea!!

  • Wireless router model befw11s4 won't work

I just moved into a new place, and got my internet connected today. I am trying to set up the wireless so that i can use my laptop but it won't work. I plugged everything in, turned it off, reset it, waited a bit, but nothing. I think it has to do with configuring ips, but i don't know how. I used to just go to the 192.168.1.1 page to do that, but it will not load, it just times out. What do I do? Please help, thanks

First power cycle computer ...router & modem .... after powering up ...check the Ip address on hardwired computer ... also check the light status on the wireless router ....
If getting Ip - 192.168.1.X ....ping 192.168.1.1 ..... if getting positive replies .... try going online ....
If you are getting request timed out .... disable all firewall on the computer then again try to ping the 192.168.1.1 address ....
After opening the setup page .... reconfigure the wireless router ....

  • Itunes 10 Installs but won't open - Please Help

I had Itunes 10 installed working on my computer. I installed a program which also installed an older version of Quicktime which I think was version 6.5. The next time I tried to open Itunes it said I needed verion 7.5 of Quicktime to open Itunes please reinstall Itunes. Now comes the problem. I have installed and uninstalled Itunes about 10 times, everytime it install ok but does not open when I click on the icon. The itunes.exe file opens in task manager for a few seconds then closes. I have searched a few places for solutions with no avail. I have tried the correct order of removing apple programs and deleting temp folder and internet cache. I have tries msconfig but can't find any of the programs which have affected other users. I have tried creati9ng another user account for windows but Itunes still won't open. Can anyone please help. My computer is Windows 7 32 bit. Thank in advance.

No, the program I installed was Winavi MP4 which coverts video to ipod psp format etc.
Ack, that one's just as bad. It's been causing this sort of grief for iTunes users for over five years now.
What it has probably done here is drop old versions of QuickTime componentry in unorthodox locations on the PC (usually down in your operating system files). So we're going to go looking for that.
First we'll adjust some view settings on the PC.
    1. From the Start menu, click Open.
    2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now, in Computer, open your C drive (or whichever drive your operating system is installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "System32" folder.
What files or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file or folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • Installer utility won't open

I have been unable to load any new application on my Mac Mini (Intel Core 2 Duo) because, it seems, the Installer utility isn't working.
When I click on a .pkg icon to begin the process either I get the 'Can't find application to open' message (and Installer isn't highlighted as a choice) or, more recently, the Installer icon begins to open on the Dock then disappears. This second experience occurs when I try to open Installer directly. I have Installer version 2.1.9. On an older Powerbook, where the Installer utility works fine, it's version 2.1.7.

Hi tmillswebb, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, but it's best to start with these two steps, which may fix it also...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, *you must select your language first.)*
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
Then Safe Boot off the HD & use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, reboot once more.
If all the above do not resolve the problem, then it's time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...

  • Itunes installs but won't open. HELP!

    Hey
So I was really pumped about the new itunes version, so I installed the new one and double clicked on the new icon to open it up.
    Nothing happens.
I've since uninstalled everything (itunes and quicktime), gotten rid of the old itunes folder, and reinstalled everything (once together, once with itunes and quicktime seperately). Still no luck. My icons are now all the new blue ones (for music files and for the itunes icon). But the process just won't start. My task manager registers itunes.exe as running for about five seconds, and then the process drops off the list.
    Any suggestions????

the way that itunes.exe disappears after a few seconds in Task Manager suggests malware. (that's how itunes.exe used to behave for folks with earlier versions of itunes who were getting "error message free" itunes launch failures caused by a Qoologic adware infestation.)
so let's see if we can catch something like that. download the free trial version of Ewido, and scan the PC. does that pick up anything? if so, does itunes launch afterwards?

  • Installation app won't open.

Please help me, I am running Mac OS X 10.6.8 but I seem to not be able to open the installation app which I downloaded legally..

You don't need to install AIM in order to use iChat.
If you've never used iChat, as I recall (it's been awhile), you launch iChat and create an AIM account there. I don't remember anymore whether I had to go to http://www.aim.com first and create an AIM account there first, then create the AIM account configuration in iChat after that or not. I think I did, but it's been awhile so my memory is a little hazy. If you already have an AIM account, just launch iChat and use your current known information. But you don't need to install the AIM application on your Mac. (BTW, you would need StuffIt Expander to open the .bin file, but it's a moot point -- you don't need it).

  • WRT54G Wireless Router Installation With Verizon DSL in Windows 2000

Okay, here's a question that I've got. I am trying to hook up a Linksys WRT54G router to a Verizon DSL connection that uses a Westell 6100 modem on a desktop running Windows 2000.
Can someone please give me step-by-step instructions for changing configuration settings on the Westell 6100 modem and the Linksys WRT54G modem so I can get the router working?
And don't suggest going to Linksys Technical Support, I've been on the phone with them for over 2 hours and neither one of the people I talked to was even listening to a word I was saying.

    You can follow these steps:
Make sure you are online directly from modem
Connect router, that is, connect modem to internet port on router, and one of the computer to one of the local ports on linksys router
Login to router's setup by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name
Change local ip address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1
    Turn off modem and router
After 1 or 2 minutes turn on modem, and another 1 or 2 minutes turn on router
Now try to access internet, it will work

  • WRT54GS wireless router - Outlook Express won't allow me to send/recieve e-mails.

I've followed the Port Triggering advive on http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=666&p_created=108421...
    but still doesn't work.
these are the error messages that pops up when I open Outlook express:
***The host 'SMTP' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'POP3', Server: 'SMTP', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D***

    Can anyone help?

The only other email problem like this that I have seen is that occasionally Windows has "fogotten" my email password.  Try entering your password again.  If this does not fix it, I would suggest deleteing the email account completely, then reboot, then setup the email account again, and make sure you carefully follow all your ISP's recommendations.
If this still does not fix the problem, contact your ISP tech support.  I had an email problem once that could not be resolved, but when I called tech support they told me about a new email system change that they "had not had time to post yet" in the instructions.
    Hope this helps.

  • Installation exe won't open

I just bought my 80G iPod today and I'm itching to get started putting stuff on it. I've downloaded iTunes and now when I double click the .exe file to install it, nothing happens. I've tried deleting it and redownloading it. I've tried doing a virus scan to remove anything that might be getting in the way. I've tried emptying my recycle bin and rebooting. None of it works! I'm getting really bummed and I'd love any help anyone could offer.
    Thanks!

+A friend of mine who has an ipod told me that I can only upload songs on one computer.+
You can only download itunes purchases once - then you own it, and you need to make sure you have a backup in case your hard drive goes bad, or you accidentally erase the file.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93050
But you can move that purchased song to other PCs you own, up to five other PCs.

  • Firefow will not open at all on one computer and on the other it opens but will not load. I just added a new wireless router, could this have anything to do with it, it had been working fine up until I installed it Tuesday night. Internet explorer won't

I installed a new wireless router on Tues. (May4) up until that time I had no problems using Firefox. Now I cannot get it to open on one computer, and the other it will open but will not load. Wondering if it has anything to do with the router, my provider or our computers. Again, it had been working fine. I am also unable to open interent explorer now on either computer.

Sounds like a problem with the router installation/configuration (likely) or a DOA router (very unlikely).
Visit the forums for the router manufacturer (i.e., linksys, d-link, etc.) and ask for assistance there. There is probably a link to help listed in the router manual.

  • My HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 won't connect to my wireless router

This is bizarre.  I have had my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 for about 6 months.  It has generally worked fine, and we have used it wirelessly only.  But now it refuses to connect to the router.  It can FIND the router, and it can find other networks in the area, but it won't connect to the router.  I ran the Wireless Network Test, and the results say:
Wireless On - Pass // Wireless Working - Pass //
Network Name (SSID) found - Pass //  Wireless Networks Detected - 9
Printer Settings Consistent with Wireless Router Settings - Pass / No Filtering - FAIL //
So it recommends solution as follows: "1 If MAC Address filtering is enabled, and you would like to keep it enabled, you must add the Mac address of your printer to the list of permitted devices for your router before continuing."
Except, guess what, I don't have MAC Address filtering enabled.  I wouldn't know how to do that, much less check for it.
Also, before today, this was never a problem.  HELP!
    Thanks....
If you are interested, here's more detail and background.
Before today, the only problem we have had is that frequently our Apple laptop (OS X 10.6) has trouble connecting to the printer.  This has been odd because the printer is connected to the network, and so is the laptop, but the laptop can't find the printer - it thinks the printer is "offline" (even though it's not).  Usually, if I wait a while, it will find the printer, and it will resolve itself work fine.  If not, we sometimes have found that it can fix itself if you restart the laptop -- restarting the printer does not make a difference.   In fact, I did exactly that today, and it resolved itself.  And I printed.  Fine, right?
But then I wanted to do more printing, and the problem of the laptop not finding the printer came up again, so I decided to really "get to the bottom of this."  I don't remember exactly what I did, but somehow I was persuaded by the online help, that the correct solution would be to go into my System Preferences / Print and Fax, and click on the "-", which de-installs the printer, with the idea of re-installing the printer.  But then when I tried to re-install the printer, it could not find the printer.  Ugh!  Wierdly, it found an 8600 Scanner, but not an 8600 printers.  After installing and de-installing the 8600 scanner a few times, I eventually deinstalled everything, and I decided to start from scratch.  I got my HP disk, and installed all the software again from the beginning (even though it was already there), and then it looked for my printer, but couldn't find it.  So then I got a USB cord, and plugged that in.
So, now I have a situation where I do have a working printer via the USB cord, but no wireless connection at all.  In particular, since the Office Jet Pro 8600 won't connect to the router, I don't know what else to do.  My Apple MacBook pro is 2 feet away from the printer, and it is connected to the router just fine (as is my blackberry), and I have never before had a problem connecting to the wireless router by the printer.
    Any suggestions?

There are two things that can trip the mac filtering test to fail:  actual MAC address filtering setup (sounds like this is not the case) and using wireless channel 6 or automatic for wireless channel in the wireless network settings (in the router).  Since it does show failed for MAC filtering and you do not use this option, try changing the wireless channel in the router to 1 or 11.  Those two channels provide the best compatibility with printers due to less interference.  Almost everything defaults to auto or 6 for the channel and this causes a lot of interference.  This change should not affect anything at all.  To do this, you may need to contact the router manufacturer as the process differs from router to router.
What brand and model is the router?
Has anything in the network settings changed at all?
What version is the Mac OS X?  There may be additional steps to take as it sounds like there are two separate issues involved and this could be revisited later.
