Wireless router keeps disconnecting...

Hello there,
I own a Linksys Wireless Router (BERW11S4). I recently updated it's firmware to the latest version (1.52.02) which supports WPA-PSK (TKIP).
I have set the group renewal interval of 7200 seconds, which is the max the software will accept.
My problem is after a certain period, it keeps disconnecting, which i believe is because of the group renewal interval, which can't be turned off. How do I eliminate this problem as it is really annoying to keep re-connecting half-way everytime?
Thanks in advance.

still disconnecting every hour and then...
please help. im so frustrated.
any other settings i should try?
or solution?
help me out 300N users!

  • Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Router keeps disconnected

Hi, My wireless router WRT54GS keeps on disconnecting without any reason. I have also changed the channel to 11 but still the same issue. It connects for 1 minute and then it stops working even though the signal says "excellent strength" and all the bars are green.

Hmm. I seem to be having a similar problem (see my thread). Check the cable that is pulugged into the back of the computer. That is where my problem lies. The computer doesn't seem to be reading it. If i get some info, ill help you.
EDIT:You have to check the IP address of the computer connected to router. If you are getting an IP of 169.254.x.x, then the router might be defective.

  • Wireless connection keeps disconnecting - Satellite C650 16U

    Hi
My wireless connection keeps disconnecting frequently and I have to manually reconnect it. I don't think it is a router issue as this doesn't happen with other laptop that is used in my house. Any ideas why this is?
    Thanks

    Hi mate
I recommend checking the power saving settings in Win 7 power management.
There you can change (disable) the power saving for WLan card.
    This helped in my case.
    Please also check this thread:

As I said; power management setting is the key you should also update the WLan driver!

  • My wireless router keeps shutting down after installing firefox 8.1

After installing firefox 8.1 my wireless router keeps shutting down. I am using Windows Vista, Gateway Laptop, x64 system. I have a belkin wireless router.

    Hi,
Firefox 8.0 is no longer being maintained or offered for download. The latest version is Firefox 10.0: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
Please make sure to download Firefox from a legitimate site. Also please note that Firefox by itself doesn't and cannot change OS network settings or hardware settings, other than trying to use different configurations in itself.

  • Wireless keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting

My Wireless Keyboard keeps disconnecting and reconnecting and typing by it self!! any ideas?

    Hi,
Yes believe it or not my problem was caused by the keyboard being too close to the iMac display, the bluetooth was infering with the other radio signals coming from the antenna, it needs to be at least 1ft away from the display (30cm) to prevent this (this won't help those of you with small computer tables/desks)
    Hope this works for you....

  • Wireless mouse keeps disconnecting

My Apple wireless mouse keeps disconnecting about every third time when I put the computer to sleep and wake it up later.  I have to reboot to re-establish the bluetooth connection.  What can I do to fix this?

There has been a lot of discussion about this.  This thread has many suggestions.  https://discussions.apple.com/message/13074761?messageID=13074761#13074761
I have had this problem on an off (no pun intended) for a very long time.  Had my mouse replaced once at the Apple Store.  Contacted Apple Care about it also when it first occured.   Sometimes changing the batteries helps.  If I am using rechargeables, Energizers seem to fit best.  In one of the threads, someone showed a photo of how the battery contacts are actually different on different brands and suggested that is one reason this occurs.  I find that resetting the SMC is what eventually I have to do and that is what Apple Care suggested also.  I haven't found a permanent fix yet and I don't really expect to, but doing this does give me much longer periods of time without a recurrence.
    To reset the SMC

It is annoying.  I keep my old wired mouse close by so I can get to it quickly.

My wireless keyboard keeps disconnecting for no reason.  Frustrating especially when you are going full on and nothing there.  I press the button on the side and it connects again.  Happening more frequently.  Purchased in March.
Any ideas would be most appreciated.

I just have to ask, Is the battery due to be replaced by any chance?
    Hope this helps

  • Wireless Router keeps blinking

I have had my wireless router for 3 year. It has been blinking continuiously and today I am not connected wiressly. Any suggestions to get wireless up and running would be great!

A persistent, flashing amber light indicates that any of the several potential conditions may require your attention:
The base station has not yet been configured because it is new, or the reset switch has been set.
You have selected a security configuration that is not recommended.
One of several other conditions, such as a disconnected Ethernet cable or invalid IP address has been detected.
    (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305101)
If you run the AirPort Utility, it will show an amber circle on the summary page next to the area(s) causing the problem. Click on this amber circle and it should provide an explanation. Please post back your results.

  • Wireless Internet keeps disconnecting.

Every couple of minutes I have to run Network Diagnostic because my ISP, Internet, and Server lights have gone red. I've read tons of identical topics with people complaining of the same thing, I'm just posting this to know if there's a possible quickfix, seeing as there is no apprent solution. I'm not computer savvy so I am completely oblivious to terms like: tcp, dhcp, ip, dns, subnet mask, router, ipv4, etcetera. So if anyone has an answer to how to fix this crap, please use "computers for dummies" language.

i've been plagued by this problem shortly after i purchased my 15" MBP in early september 2009, but i always thought it was the uni internet provider (keysurf lol) however no one else with a MBP was experiencing this issue. my wireless kept continuously disconnecting but that only happened sparingly so i didnt make much of it...
it wasn't much of an issue until i found my snow leopard installation disk in my MBP packaging. apparently i had bought one that didn't have snow leopard installed. a couple of weeks after the installation the airport started messing up ALOT. i have to turn the airport off and on multiple times to get it to work at all. i spent hours yesterday looking the issue up and after 3 hours i realized that all the posts i was looking at were dated EARLY 2008!!! it was quite shocking but heres what i think i learned:
FIRSTLY: this is a MBP software issue. i will double check on my windows partition after i post this message.
SECONDLY: only certain MBP's have the problem. in certain cases put up on the forums users complained and contacted apple support enough times to get a new MBP. the one case i read reported that the problem did not plague his new laptop. i HAVE checked the ISP wireless connection on my girlfriends windows laptop (which has survived 3 different drinks being spilled on it, been sprayed with glue, trampled on and dropped numerous times) and the internet works just fine. it connects immediately and does not disconnect like my MBP airport does.
THIRD: apple will NOT comment on the problem or let you know that its their product that is defective. you will NOT be told that its a known issue. you WILL run around in circles until you get a new macbook IF you do. you will ALWAYS be told its a router/ISP problem
FOURTH: some of the listed fixes include the alternate DNS settings the guy above me posted. i personally knew about this through windows experience and manually setting up a MBP Xbox Live connection which requires these parameters to be manually entered which doesn't bode well for a PORTABLE device... (this solution did not work for me)
FIFTH: some people listed that the solution that worked for them was to disabled the airport from remembering the wireless network that they joined. everytime the disconnect occurred, they simply go to the list of wireless connections in the network preferences and remove that network and then add it again.
SIXTH: another proposed solution stated that the issue was regarding the airport frequency type... alt (or as mac users call it-- OPTION) clicking the airport indicator by the battery button brings up some additional airport information including the PHY mode which for me and all the people who reported the issue was 802.11b... this is the frequency that the airport card is using to connect. you will also get your SSID information (which is basically the ID that the airport/computer broadcasts in order to get a connection)
by default most routers/laptop wireless cards use the 802.11b frequency AND most laptops have their SSID broadcast disabled which means that when someone is "looking for a wireless connection", they will not see your computer on the list.
the proposed solution stated that you must find a way to turn your airport settings so that it enables SSID broadcast and switch to a combination of frequencies (802.11b/a/g etc...) when i tried doing this, i went to applications > utilities > AirPort Utility WHICH LEADS ME TO THE NEXT COMMON PROBLEM!
SEVENTH: lots of people have been reporting back in the early 2008 posts that it appeared that their airport cards were not installed at all. now, in my AirPort Utility tool, my airport card appears to be missing in there. i called my friend who also has a 15" macbook purchased at the same time as mine but with snow leopard preinstalled (so im assuming its a slightly newer one) and his airport utility tool showed some options whereas mine simply says:
"AirPort Utility was unable to find any Apple wireless devices. Make sure the Apple wireless device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer then click rescan to try again." <<Rescan button below>>
however when i went to the System Profiler tool (top left apple icon in the toolbar > About this Mac > More Info) the airport card seems to be identified in the list of hardware installed on the MBP
now i dont know if im looking in the wrong place to change my PHY mode or my SSID broadcast but i found numerous posts claiming that apple customer support recommended the command + Option + P + R solution.
basically they instructed users to turn off their laptop, take out their power cord and battery, put the battery back in, HOLD DOWN command + Option (also known as ALT) + P + R then push the power button while continuing to hold these buttons down. the laptop restarts itself when it reaches the greyscreen / when u hear the startup chimes. the instructions stated that you must hear the chimes/hold down the buttons while the laptop restarts 2 or 3 times (i cant remember...)
this is supposed to flush your something something RAM, i have no idea what thats on about but you can google the command to find out what it does. i tried this solution but i didn't want to take out my battery because i was afraid of tampering with the sealed/tightly screwed case... and i didnt have a screwdriver small enough. ">_> sure enough the solution did not work but i didnt exactly follow it to the letter. the airport utility tool showed no change and my airport was still very troublesome. which finally brings me to
EIGHTH: some vague solutions i found from the old early 2008 posts stated that you must take out a certain file named AppleAirPortSOMETHINGSOMETHING.kext found in MaccintoshHD > System > Library > Extensions... however the file was missing from my list of *.kext files... i was perplexed. this was the first thing i looked up before all the above solutions. i happened to stumble back into this folder looking for the file because of the System Profiler Tool (Mac Icon > About this Mac > More info)
i had accidentally stumbled into the "extensions" section listed under "Software" in the list to the left of the system profiler tool. my mac gave me the spinning beach ball of death as i had been manically clicking around to find anything relating to the airport settings... so i couldnt do anything until the beachball stopped spinning and the list was finally compiled afew seconds later. thats were i found a list of AppleSOMETHINGSOMETHING files! and sure enough, the file mentioned in the fix (appleAirport"blahblah".kext) was listed there with its proper location which for my system architecture was:
    Mac HD > System > Library > Extensions > IO80211Family.kext
(right click that file and select show package contents)
then navigate as follows: Contents > Plugins > *list of files*
the file most resembling the one proposed to be deleted was called "AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext" along with it were 3 other files named as follows:
    "AppeAirPortBrcm43224.kext"
"AirPortAtheros.kext" <<<< does NOT contain APPLE at the start. this is NOT a typo
"AirPortAtheros21.kext" <<<< does NOT contain APPLE at the start. this is NOT a typo
at first i only removed the first file from the folder and that did nothing to my airport (even after i restarted) so i went back and removed all the rest of them, restarted and now i can safely say my airport is FIXED! all this happened just yesterday (oh yea i also managed to download the airport software update which did nothing for me) so thats why all these steps are detailed.
now be careful with this solution. before you take these files out of there TAKE A SCREENSHOT showing you were the files are!!! take a screenshot showing you the files listed in the System Profiler Utility > Software > Extensions... take a screenshot of anything and everything you do to REMIND YOU HOW TO UNDO IT! and for the love of God do NOT delete those files! save them somewhere safe along with the screenshots and back them up in any hard disk AND flash memory sticks (at least more than one!) who knows what will happen after the next update if those files are missing, so at least you will know how to put them back!
and please please please try all the proposed solutions before resorting to taking files out of your system architecture... im NOT going to claim that i know what im doing but this solution worked for me. good luck and report back any success or failures you get. im going to check this post later today and at least for the rest of the week while im checking that my airport is indeed working correctly. (note i tested my airport. after putting it to sleep several times and/or turning the airport on and off several times it has been working without glitches (it was slow ONCE! but it sped up when i pushed command+R = refresh on my safari and firefox browsers)
    good luck

  • My usb wireless adapter keeps disconnecting

So, I just bought this TP-Link TL-WMN721N 150mbps wireless adapter, and it has this issue. It keeps disconnecting, all the time, i've downloaded the latest drivers and i'm pretty sure it's not a malware problem, also tried connecting to different usb ports.
    Any guesses?

    Hi,
You can also temporarily turn off your anti-virus software, since some anti-virus might not recognize the new component installed.
I noticed that you've had the latest driver, did you get the driver by manually viewing the device manufacture website to look for the latest version?
This issue can also be caused by incompatibility, Please make sure the usb wireless adapter is compatible with your Windows version.
Please also reinstall the usb controllers as a test
First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:
    1)    In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
    2)    Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and your windws will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

  • Bluetooth wireless keyboard keeps disconnecting

    Hello,
My wireless keyboard {small aluminum, no numeric pad}  keeps disconnecting after i changed the batteries yesterday - the keyboard is found and paired to my iMac, however whenever i press the Command key, it disconnects if i press the space bar it outputs a space followed by the letter 'n' {like so " n"} also i cannot use the delete key, very strange!
I have tried resetting the PRAM, disconnecting the keyboard and starting over, but still getting the same problems, any ideas on how i can fix this?
    KR,
    Aaron

    Hello:
    Try a couple of things:
    1.  Reset the SMC (you already have reset the PRAM).
    2.  Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and then restart.
    3.  Make the KB a favorite.
If none of that helps, try removing and then replacing the batteries.
If none of that works, I would suspect a failing KB.

  • My router keeps disconnecting

And when i try to connect it says "Not connected" but i have internet?..

I have been having the same problem for a few months. I recently replaced my 54G router with a 150N and updated the drivers for my wireless card on my Dell laptop and it now works but I also have an IBM laptop that still connects but says it is not connected. It only stays connected for a short time then disconnectes and I must reconnect manually. Then the process repeats. This is what my Dell had been  doing. I can't figure out why one is now working and the other is not. The Dell is the main pc.
I am using mac filtering but have been before the problem started.
Thanks for any ideas or help with this.

  • Wireless Connection Keeps disconnecting and reconnecting

I recently got a new router to replace my old one (which had the same issue) and it frequently disconnects randomly for a couple seconds then reconnects again. This seems to only happen to anyone using wireless connections and not when its connected with an Ethernet cable. I've even changed the router channel and the problem still persists and its not near anything the could disrupt the signal so I don't understand.

With the same issue on 2 routers, it's probably not a defective router.  But it could be the settings.  As Matt suggested check your security settings and the wireless mode.  If all of your devices are "n" use performance mode.  Otherwise use compatibility mode.
Inssider (available for free at the following link) will show you other devices and enable you to pick the best channel.
    http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/
Is the problem is on multiple devices or just one?  If it's only one the issue could be the wireless card.
Since it is a wireless problem think about distance and obstruction.  They will reduce signal strength and could cause intermittent problems.  Try testing close to the router and see if the same problem occurs.  Router positioning can improve signal quality.  Don't overlook little things.  Example: many users stand the router up.  I found that I get better reception with it laying on it's side.  And one of my laptops has a significant change in performance by rotating it 90degrees.  The kind of problem you are having may need some trial and error research to solve.

  • Wireless connection keeps disconnecting

I have a macbook OSX etc...i'm on a BT wireless home hub...it was working fine till about 2 weeks ago..now the connection lasts for maybe 5 mins if I'm lucky before it disconnects and I have to enter my password etc...very annoying...
is it my mac or is it BT?
    thanks,
    C23

    Coles Cross,
Thought you may have been boosting a WiFi signal with the router. With you plugging into the router yours would be closer to the router so you wouldn't be having the problems I'm having. What I can't understand is that I'm on one of he first Intel iMacs and the web browsing is fine. The new MacBook, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I can run network diagnostics and it says I have the connection but, the browser just sits there or takes forever to load. I usually just give up on it. I go back to my iMac and all works fine. If you or anyone would know what the difference could be, I'd appreciate it.
Oh, I have ran repair permissions program and all seems fine except each time it will have about 10 lines that all say the same thing about an iChat icon not being what it expected. Don't know if that's anything to do with it or not.

This repeats over and over, quite frequently. Any good jabberd gurus know where I should look? I checked out the router.xml but nothing stood out as obvious.

Had a similar thing just now with Mountain Lion (after much trouble post the Server 2.2 update) where the hash in these files eg
    /Library/Server/Messages/Config/jabberd/c2s.xml
            <!-- Username/password to authenticate as -->
            <user>jabberd</user>
            <!-- default: jabberd -->
            <pass>HASHED_SECRET</pass>
    /Library/Server/Messages/Config/jabberd/router.xml
            <secret>HASHED_SECRET</secret>
and others in that folder all matched, but they mismatched with info in these plists…
    /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Print secret" /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Proxy65.plist
    /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Print password" /Library/Server/Messages/Config/Rooms.plist
    set those with eg
    /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c 'Set secret HASHED_SECRET' /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Proxy65.plist
(use single quotes so the various hash characters like * and ! etc work)
After that and an off/on of messages, the syslog improved and after a reboot went totally stable (wrt jabber anyway!)
