Wireless router password issues

Here's my problem.  I have a wireless router and am connected on it right now.  My problem is that I don't have a password on it.  Every other day it seems like when I try to connect to the router from my laptop it's asking me for a password again.  Everytime I have to reset the router and log in fine.  Is there some way to stop this?!? Please help if you can. Thank you.

Change the admin password on the router so no one else can get onto it and reset your WEP settings.
This happened to my brother whenhe was in college.  He didin't want a WEP on his Wireless but his buddies kept messing with him, logging on and changing his settings.

How can I change my new wireless router password without connecting a usb cable ?
    Thanks

We have no idea since you don't mention what printer you have.   Also if you want to change your router password you con't use a USB cable.  Must use Ethenet cable or wireless connection.

  • Wireless router password

Hi. I am visiting my friend in Hawaii. He has a Linsys WRT54GS wireless router, with a pc  running  XP. His wife uses her pc laptop on their system.
    I have a Mac powerbook, 10.4 system.
My mac can't access his wireless signal, because they can't remember their password. I found this site, and found information to reset the password. It says to hold the reset button for 30 sec, and use admin for the new temporary password.
If I do that, I'm a little afraid that their wireless router will change, and she won't be able to access it.
Are there any special steps to do this so I don't mess up their ability to access the internet wirelessly?
    Thanks in advance.
    Bobby

They'll be able to access it, but the problem with resetting a router, is that you lose all your security settings.  It restores the router back to it's factory defaults.  So keep that in mind.

  • HT1595 Wireless router sysnc issues

I have the latest Apple TV.  Why do I have to reset my wireless router almost all the time when I turn on Airplay.  My wiress has been flawless for a year until i recenly hooked up apple TV.  Cisco Linksys E4200.   It seems to make my wirlels network go haywire.  My IPAD sugnal goes in out at this time.  This is never an issue.  I checked the wirless on my phone, IPOD, and playstation, and all go in an out until I it the reset button on my wirelss router.  Why this is a pain in the *** as it is up stairs.

Then this problem, does not sound related to changing your router at all. Have you checked that the power lead is properly pushed into the Apple TV and that you are selecting the correct channel for HDMI on the TV itself.
Check that the HDMI cable is correctly seated at both ends.
Try disconnecting the cable and connecting it again.
    Try another HDMI cable.
Make sure your TV supports 720p (Apple TV 2)
Try the Apple TV with another TV

  • Copying wireless router password and settings to a new Powerbook

I recently bought a second 15" powerbook after my girlfriend bought my former one.
I bought a Lynksys WRT54G Wireless G Router and after some configuration, I successfully connected her powerbook to my DSL connection wirelessly. However I now am having trouble connecting my new PB wirelessly. I am a bit apprehensive about messing with setting a new password, etc, since I might mess up her wireless connection. I remember it took some time to set the router properly.
Is there a way to copy, and or see, ALL of the settings that I configured in her powerbook for this Lynksys Router, so I can copy them correctly to mine?
When I tried before, I had something screwed up because I kept getting different errors as I tried different settings.
So I need to retrieve the PASSWORD and SETTINGS for the Lynksys Router from her BP and copy them to mine.
    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Thanks for that info.
I will post this to the Airport section.
The problem is that even after copying all of the settings from my girlfriends PB, including a long password starting with a $, my airport won't connect to the Lynksys wireless network. Airport is turned on (on my powerbook), and 'Ive chosen the proper wireless network with the proper password in network settings. I also added my PB Mac address to the Lynksys router when I was hooked up via an ethernet cable, but I still can't connect the the wireless network. I have both Powerbooks side by side. Hers connects wirelessly and mine doesn't.
    I'm missing a setting somewhere, I believe.
    Thanks,

  • MBP 2007 thinks wireless router password is incorrect

Yes... I have checked the password a BILLION times. I do have the password right but it thinks I don't.
I've been connecting to this router for 8 months problem free. Now it says I have the password wrong. I have reset it loads of times to try to fix it but no matter what the computer the router is connected to says the password is, mine won't connect.
The router is a D-Link wireless N router and I configured the router on a PC because the D-Link CD ROMs won't run on the Mac.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I have the same problem with a Dlink DIR-655... I connect to it from my Vista machine... You can try installing Firefox on your Mac to see if that will do it.

  • 10.4.8 wireless router password problem

    Hi
Like a number of other people I'm struggling with my internet connection since getting the 10.4.8 update. My problem seems to be slightly different though...
basically airport is connecting to my router on start-up but is not connecting to the internet. I keep getting a prompt asking me to enter a password, but when I enter my WPA password, then I get an error saying that airport could not connect to my router. If I delete the system preferences folder, etc. then the message I get back on setting up my network preferences is that the password is invalid. I've reset my router but I still have the same problem. When I reset my router I can connect from my imac to my router but not out to the internet. I've cleared my keychain also but this doesn't seem to help.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - I've been trying to sort this for 2 weeks now and I'm not getting anywhere!

  • Any resolution to 10.4.10, wireless router/encryption issues?

Like many others, I upgraded to 10.4.10 and soon began experiencing connecting to the Internet problems on my ATT/2WIRE gateway/router using WEP encryption as well as kernel panics.
Having had my MBP for only two months, I did not have many files so I did a Erase/Install using the disks (v. 10.4.8) that came with the laptop. Immediately after this procedure, I updated to 10.4.9, did permission repairs. The gateway/router issue and the kernel panics with 10.4.10 were gone. Without having installed anything else, I did the combo update to 10.4.10 again (did permission repair before and after) and after the double reboot, I was able to reach the Internet. I then went on to battery and sure enough the Internet connection was lost after about 10 minutes. Then came the kernel panic. I resorted to doing another Erase/Install and updating only to 10.4.9 and since then, no problems at all, even on battery.
I've read through the discussions on this but did not see if there was a resolution. Would 10.4.10 v1.1 resolve this issue? Or is this something that 2WIRE would need to update their firmware?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Most likely 2Wire needs to upgrade their firmware. There is still a chance one of these other solutions on my FAQ* might work too:

  • Connecting to Windows Computer via wireless network (Password issue)

I have a wireless network set up at my house, and we all can see each other's shared computers, and the windows machines can connect to each other without a problem.. but my Mac cannot connect to them, but they can connect to me. When I goto "Connect to Server" it asks me for a username and password for the windows machine.. I don't know what to do from here!!! Please help, thanks a bunch

In your Sharing panel, did you go into "Options" and check the box for sharing via SMB?
Then from XP you should be able to reach the Mac via //(ip# or DNS name)/
and you should see the available shares.

My printer was working fine but when I turned it on today it wouldn't connect to my wireless router. I try inputing the correct password and the printer gives me this message......"the WPA security passphrase configured on your HP printer does not match your wireless router setting" .
I have entered the password several times and I know what I have entered is correct

    Hi @Southglen,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus printer will not recognize your wireless router password. I am sorry to hear this, but happy to help!
I would recommend to go through this guide, How to Find the WEP or WPA Key or Password for Your Wireless Network, just to double-check your wireless password, in case it might have changed.
I would also suggest a hard reset, by going to this post How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1.
After those two steps, I would suggest a firmware update, Getting Printer Updates for HP Officejet Pro 8600 (N911), Officejet 6600 (H711) and Officejet 6700 P....
Let's start with these steps, and we will go from there!

  • How do I get a password on my wireless router?

I think I found a person on in My Finder sharing my network. I'm not too happy. When we set up our router
it didn't ask for a password, so we don't have one. I'm not too computer savvy, but can do the basics.
Help..not sure what I can do ? I'd  like to have a password so people can't get onto my network.
    Thanks for the help
    April

There are two different passwords at issue here. They aren't necessarily the same, and shouldn't be the same.
One is the password you use to get into your router settings. If you don't know what that password is, you'll have to reset your router to its factory default settings. I can't tell you how to do that. There's probably either a button to press or a pinhole into which you insert a paper clip. After you reset the router, it will have a default password, which you must change immediately. The default password is in the documentation somewhere. Find that documentation on the manufacturer's website.
Do not leave the default password set.
The other password is the network password, which you set within the router's web interface. I can't tell you how to do that either. Make sure you select WPA2 Personal as the security standard, not WEP. If the router doesn't have that setting, recycle it and get a newer one.
See this support article for the possible formats of wireless network passwords:

  • Secure wireless router with lost password

I'm trying to secure our wireless router and not having any success. When I go to the 192.168.1.1 site and type in admin, the screen just pops up again. If I continue, after three tries I get a 404 screen. I'm guessing my husband added a password at some time, but he has no record of it and I've tried all of our passwords that I can think of and none of them work. Is there a way to get past this screen or recover the password somehow? Our network still shows up as unlocked and I'd like to get access to the account and get it locked. Thanks.

    Welcome to Cisco Home Community,
What is the model number of your Linksys router? In this case, you may need to perform a reset on the router and you will lose all settings saved in it. You'll start from scratch of setting it up again for the internet both wired and wireless to work. Here are the links below that you may help you to get this issue resolve.

  • Nity wireless router under Yosemite 10.10.1. Doesn't recognize the password.

My HP Envy doesn't recognice the password to the Xfinity wireless router.   Used to work prior to Yosemite.

Hello @Suntorygr and welcome to the HP Forums!
I'd like to help, just curious, are you referring to an Envy printer or computer? Can you please let me know the full name of whichever it is (Example: Envy 4500, Envy 15, etc.)? Thanks!
Until I know whether you're referring to a printer or a computer, the best I can suggest is to power cycle your network/devices. To do this, turn off the Envy and the Mac. Once they shut down, pull the power cord from your router for 30 seconds. Once it's plugged back in and has all the lights back to normal turn the Mac and the Envy back on and try connecting again
Hope to hear back from you soon!

  • ISSUE With my WRT600N Wireless Router --

Hello, I am having trouble with my Wireless Router. It is the WRT600N model Linksys Router and the issue I am specifically having is my wireless access. I have several devices which access wirelessly and am starting to have more and more issues of late, not sure why...?
I was wondering how to configure each device accessing my wireless net individually as I have Network MAgic asnd have seen a couple of the items on my network with the same ip addresses. I would like to assign a number to each device and see if that eliminates the issues I have been experiencing..?
I have looked through these question pages and have not found the answer I was looking for so I hope this has not been asked before. I also saw a post that kind of caught my interest and it was regarding using two WRT600N's routers together for better range etc. I have an issue with raqnge on my system and have an old WRT54 Router and would like to know if I could do the same thing with this and incorporate this router into my system as a wireless access point (WAP) only. If this is possible, what would the steps be to accomplish this...
My main issue I chose to writer about here was recently experienced when I got an Ipad and my Ipad has issues remaining connected to my WRT600N Router and I checked my network program and noticed that it was assigned the samw IP address as one of my boys X-Boxes. I believe currently we have approximately 9-11 devices that periodically connect wirelessly to my network. Some devices are PSP's and only occassionally connect and I have NEVER seen all the devcices connect at the same time. I believe the max at once would be approximately 5-6 devices.  Is this too many at once...?  Is the router overloaded with the amount of devices I have connected...?
Please let me know what you would recommend for my situation,
    Darius Taylor

2 wireless routers can not communicate wirelessly with each other.
You need to connect cable between 2 routers and use the second wireless router as access point.
Follow this link to connect Linksys router to another router.
Some of your devices are getting same IP address. This might be the issue with DHCP server of the router. You can try DHCP reservation on the router so that each device will get unique IP address.

  • Perplexing Wireless Router Issue! Please Help!

OK Guys and Girls, I could really use some help.  I have a wireless router Mod. WRT54G ver. 2.0, and yes it has the firmware upgrade. The problem that I am current having is this, my computer can connect to the router no problem, and  i  can access the settings too, but it will not let me access the internet at all. It's not the cable modem because I can hook up my laptop to it and get internet.  So in short the router isn't, for some strange reason, letting my computer access the internet but the router can access the web.  Please any suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advanced.

Access the setup page of the router by launching an
Browser and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter.
When it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as "admin" (Without quotes)
    click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
    button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
    - Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online
If not ... power cycle for 4-5 minutes & then again check the WAN Ip address .....
