Wireless router settings for apple tv

There is any special configuration for the wireless router in order to get the Apple tv working good?
Thanks!

Matthew, so long as you translate your (non-square video) material to a square pixel ratio - say, 960x720 - the tv will pillarbox 4:3 content for a 16:9 display. You'll also be able to reallocate valuable bits because you won't have to encode the larger frame 1280x720 frame.
h.264 is progressive-scan only, so, yeah, all material must be deinterlaced during encoding.
As far as workflows, other than dropping the pillarboxing, I'm not sure there is much more that you can do - Frame Controls with Compressor to output an .mov (keeping your bitrate at 5MB/sec) is about all you can do for HD stuff. Even Compressor 3 Apple TV setting is surprisingly spartan.
Hopefully Brian Gary will chime in as well...

    It is one way.
You can also use a mini Display Port to HDMI adapter, and an HDMI cable. A Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter works too.
You might be able to get away with an Apple TV and no WiFi router, if you use an Ethernet cable from the Mac to the Apple TV (never tried it, but it should work in theory).
You may even be able to use an adhoc network with an Apple TV and no WiFi router, but I think the setup would be annoying each time you wanted to mirror and you would give up internt access while the adhoc network was active.

You can use 1 unified Apple ID for iTunes so you don't have to repurchase apps.   That part is fine.
For iCLoud/iMessage/Facetime you should each have a unique ID so the 2 phones will be separate and you won't accidentally erase each other's content and overwrite settings, nor will you get the others messaages by mistake.

Are you using a stereo receiver or surround sound system for the audio by chance.  What you are describing sounds like a receiver that is not setup correctly, or does not have the speakers connected to it correctly to support Dolby surround, 5.1 or 7.1.  Which is why it is only happening on some content.  It would only be on the ones that are encoded to support Dolby audio.

  • Wireless Router asking for different password when trying to change settings

I have an "old" wireless router Linksys BEFW11S4 V2.
I am trying to change settings using the web interface.
I can get in using the "admin" password but as soon as I try to change anything (such as SSID, security, etc) and click "Apply", it asks me for a password.  This time, the "admin" password doesn't work and I get to a red screen saying I entered a wrong password.  I reseted my router and came back to the default but still, I get the same thing.
    ...any clues anyone?
    Thanks.

Try upgrading the firmware from ftp.linksys.com/pub/network ..also after upgrade ...reset the router & reconfigure it ... See if it works ...

  • Wireless router options for new mixed Mac and PC wireless network

I just acquired a second-hand dell laptop, and want to move from no network to wireless g/n network based on cable modem which include the iMac. This network must also accomodate a business only Dell laptop running XPsp2 (of which I have no adminstrator rights) and VPN software. I need to share a HP laserjet 3030 3n1 printer.
In reading these and other forums, my choices seem to be:
    1. buy Airport Extreme base station for easy connect to the imac, and more difficult connection to both Dells, particularly since I can't install Bonjour on the business laptop, or
    2. buy D-Link/Linksys wireless router and cards, set up a Windows based network, and then make the Mac connect.
Because of the mixed network, both approaches seem to have difficulties with communication, high security, reliable printing. All of these are critical for the business computer.
Any suggestions on the more likely route to success?
Cable modem is a 4 yr old Toshiba with 10baseT. What happens when this is connected to a Gigabit router? should I also plan to upgrade the modem?
    Thanks

Hello umpire318. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Based on your requirements, it appears that the Dell laptop will be the deciding factor to which router you should go with. Since you will need to make administrative changes to the Dell in order to configure it to work with the AirPorts, you're most likely have "less hassles" going with a non-AirPort router.

  • How do I extend a wireless conection? for apple

How do I extend a wireless conection? In Apple.

Depends on what brand of router you have. If you have an Airport Extreme Base Station or Time Capsule, then you can use an Airport Express to extend the network wirelessly for use by a device using Ethernet, e.g., a computer or network printer. The latest Airport Express has two Ethernet ports available.
Alternatively, you can run an Ethernet line from the router to the Airport Express and create a new network that is distant from the router. This would work on an AEBS, Time Capsule, or a non-Apple router.

  • Router settings for ITouch

I have been trying to connect my new ITouch with my home wireless, but am having numerous problems.  It won't accept the password.  I have read some of the discussions, but there are so many things listed there.  Right now my router, a WRT54G, is set as WEP with a 64 bit code.  From what I have read, I should change it to a 128 bit and generate a key code for that.  If I do that, will I need to do something different for my laptops, which have been working fine with the wireless?  I don't want to mess things up, as I am not use to dealing with router settings, etc.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you change the WEP Encryption from 64-bit to 128-bit,generate the passphrase for you and use KEY 1 to reconnect the wireless network on your laptop.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the Wireless tab, click on the wireless tab,Set the Wireless channel to 11-2.462GHz,Provide Unique SSID for the Wireless Network Name(not linksys)...and click on save settings.Click on Advanced Wireless Settings,Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now,try to connect the I-Phone and check...

  • What wireless router works for lion 10.7.3

I need info to for wireless router for lion 10.7.3 but bit air port one

Well, I've looked at AE too, but as I understand it, unlike most routers, Airport extreme doesn't contain a modem, so you'll still need a modem/router (since as far as I know you can't buy modems that aren't routers anymore, can you?) to connect Airport Extreme to the phone/DSL line.
This is the principle reason I haven't moved to AE, but I must admit it doesn't make sense to me why Apple wouldn't have put a modem in AE, too.

  • ITunes looses photo sync settings for Apple TV (1st gen.)

Since the update to the new Photo app on my Mac, iTunes forgets the photo sync settings for my Apple TV (1st. generation, 160 GB HDD).
Every time I open the photo section of the Apple TV sync settings, all the options are turned off. Then I mark a couple of albums and sync the Apple TV >> all album appear on the Apple TV.
But after closing and re-opening iTunes in the photo settings everything is unmarked again. So on every following sync the photos on the Apple TV are easily erased :-( Resync them to the Apple TV takes hours (>30'000 photos!).
All the other sync settings in iTunes remain intact.
    Environment:
    - MacBook Pro Retina 15" with the latest SW (Mac OS, iTunes, Photo App, etc.)
    - Apple TV 1st gen 160 GB HDD

Restarting iTunes resolves the issue in the majority of cases, if it doesn't my second guess would be your security software.
What really seems strange here is that there have been no updates since well before Xmas, so after initially setting it up, the first update would have brought you right up to the most recent (and indeed the very last) .
Agh, how silly of me, I see it's iTunes you have updated.
If that's about all you've changed, you might want to try reinstalling iTunes and bonjour.

Looking for a wireless router/modem that we can configure here, and then just take with us, plug into a wall somewhere, and have the capacity for an event.  In past events we've used the same off-the-shelf wireless routers that we have in the office now, but they start to choke and die at around 40 people. The events are 50-100 people; capacity to 200 would be great.
Assume the wired connection is good enough to handle it.
I'm not sure if the Cisco SMB will have something similar, but maybe even I have to go towards the Enterprise portfolio.
    Any suggestions?

The events are 50-100 people; capacity to 200 would be great.
Cisco Enterprise wireless portfolio are the 1040, 1140, 1250, 1260, 3500i/e model WAP.  You'll may need a WLC if you use the 3500i/e.  Cisco recommends no more than 25 users associated to an AP.  So for about 200 people, you'll need about 8 APs spread apart.
You can start by going to the website:  www.cisco.com/go/wireless.

  • Whic wireless router best for Mac

Hi. I am looking to connect our other Mac G4 tower to the internet via a wireless router but am unsure of which one to use.
Both G4's are running OS 10.3.9.
I have AT&T as my DSL provider.
    Thanks for any assistance!

Hi, joni02. I don't know that this is the "best" option, but I recently bought a NetGear WGR614 router to replace an older wireless router that had died. Compared with the allegedly very Mac-friendly Asante unit it replaced, the NetGear router was an absolute snap to set up, with clear directions and a very simple browser-based setup interface. It also tripled the range I had had with the older router — a completely unexpected benefit.
I might add that I also bought a pair of NetGear XE102 Powerline adapters to enable my son to use his Aluminum Powerbook (which has truly pitiful wireless range with its Airport Extreme card) in his room, far away from the router. The XE102s use household electrical wiring to carry an Ethernet signal from the router to his Powerbook. This is a good alternative to wireless networking, where radio interference is a problem and the computers that need to be networked are remote from each other and mostly stationary.
