Wireless signal consistently lost with osx 10-9

My wireless signal is consisently being dropped with my os x 10.9 on my 27" iMac desktop unit.  The network preferences shows that my router is sending the signal but I keep having to enter my protected network name and password to hook up to the internet, only to have it dropped if my mac remains idle for a few minutes.  Veru frustrating!

Try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • Wireless signal consistently resetting?

My ibook g4 is connected to a small home wireless network. In my Internet Connect Airport tab, the status of my connection seems to be constantly resetting itself. Every 10-15 seconds, the status will read "status not available" for a split-second, and then "getting status..." for about five seconds, and then just "connected" again. Is this normal? Is it just refreshing information, or does this sound like a problem with the networks connection, modem or wireless router? All other computers on the network are PC's running Windows and I haven't found a way to check a real-time status of the connection like I can on my ibook. There have been a few problems with the connection recently. The connection will every few days go totally down, and we have to reset the modem and then it works again. So, we got the service providers in, and we fixed what we thought was the problem (some complicated wiring issues in an old house that we thought was causing some sort of feedback, causing the modem to reset itself while the router couldn't keep up and didn't transfer the connection). So, we fixed these wiring issues, and the connection seems better, but the status is still doing this weird resetting thing mentioned above. Does anyone know what this might mean? Thanx!

It appears to me as you may be receiving some interferance from a 2.4 GHZ phone or even a microwave.
Have you tried changing the network channel on your AEBS to see if that resolves your issue? Also, is your wireless router plugged into the same circuit of some electrical device that may be causing the interference?
Lastly, it should be another network close to you that is causing the interferance - a good solution is to change the channel on your wireless router.
    Give that a shot.
P.S. Make sure your using the most recent firmware on your wireless router, you'll be surprised as to what a difference that will make.

  • HT3500 I am trying to hook up my new Canon MG5320 printer wirelessly to my MacBookPro with OSX.8.2.  The Airport Extreme Base Station does not have a WPS button and so I seem to be stymied even though the printer detects the Airport Extreme.  Suggestions?

I am trying to set up my new Canon MG5320 printer to my wireless network.  However, there is no button on the Airport Extreme to push when I get to that step in the set-up directions.  I am using OSX.8.2.  Suggestions please!

If the display shows the "Press and hold the WPS button..." message on the MG display, press the red Stop button on the MG and then select Standard Setup. The MG will search for networks and should display your Airport Extreme's network name. Select this and then enter the password to connect to this network.

  • Wireless signal indicator on WVC54GCA camera

Is there a way to add a Wireless Signal Quality indicator? That would help a lot during the physical install of the device.

That is not an option. The wireless reception quality of different devices is completely different. That is because different devices have different radios and different antennas. Also the way radios and antennas are incorporated in devices are usually different as well. You need to make the wireless signal strength measurement with the devices itself. It shouldn’t be too difficult to add such an indicator in the firmware of the camera.

  • Will signal strength or internet speed suffer when using a Generation 1 Time Capsule and wireless extending a network with a Generation 5 Airport Extreme

I have a wireless network in my home and I have a Time Capsule 1st generation and a Airport Extreme 5th Generation, will this cause my internet to be slow or have glitches with signal strength?

We've gone over this in the other thread.
If the Time Capsule will be connecting using wireless only, everything depends on the quality of the connection between the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule.
The quality of the connection will be affected by the distance that the Time Capsule is located from the AirPort Extreme and any obstructions in the signal path.
If you have a ceiling between the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule, then you should expect the signal arriving at the Time Capsule to have lost 30-40% of its bandwidth (speed). So, the Time Capsule can only repeat the weaker signal that it receives.
Other walls or other obstructions like heavy furniture, large mirrors, etc will also affect the wireless signal as well as cordless phones and other wireless networks around you.
If you are lucky enough to have line-of-sight between the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule, then the wireless connection between those devices can work quite well. Few of us have this luxury, and must settle for significant compromises in performance.
If the wireless connection between the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule does the job for you reliably, then you can leave things as is.  If you are not getting the reliable performance that you need, then you will need to establish a wired Ethernet connection between the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule.
As you might imagine, there is virtually no signal loss in a wire, even up to 300+ feet or 100 meters.

Mac Pros don't support Airplay.  Only some post 2011 Macs do, MAc Pros aren't amongst them.

You could try Airparrot software as a workaround.

  • Is there a PORTABLE wireless router that I could travel with to convert hotel LAN lines into wireless signals for my iPad?

I travel regularly to Asia and I have been trying to compile everything I need into my iPad.  Unfortunately, most of my hotels do not have wireless in the rooms just an LAN line.  Does anyone know of a router (as small as possible) that I can plug an LAN line into that will convert it to a wireless signal I can access with the iPad.  What I don’t want is to have to plug the router into a computer and program it forevery different LAN line I encounter.  Thoughts???

As the others have said, Airport Express is one option.  The catch as Allan said is that the configuration utility doesn't run on the iPad.  It is rumored that iOS5 may have the utlity, but that doesn't help you now.  If you can wait, then the Airport Express would arguably be the best for the iPad.
If you can't wait, you could get the D-Link DAP-1350.  You configure it through a webpage, similar to how you would other home routers.

I use the older DWL-G730AP 802.11g version and it's been very good to me for use by my Macbook Pro and iPad1.

  • JBL wireless subwoofer signal now interferes with my Apple TV wireless signal.

Ever since the newest software update, my Apple TV wireless signal interferes with my wireless subwoofer signal, immediately shutting off the music I am playing via Apple TV.  I have had my Apple TV since December 2011 with the same exact speaker set up and wireless internet and it worked fine - everything was compatible.  Ever since the latest software update (I updated my ATV software around the time when Apple released the 1080 HD Apple TV last month) my wireless subwoofer's signal interferes with the streaming wireless signal, immediately shutting down the music that's playing through ATV.
It is obviously the subwoofer because everything works fine when I switch the subwoofer off.  I have tried changing the channel of my woofer and the frequency of my wireless internet, but the problem persists.
My biggest frustration is that everything worked fine and was compatible up until the last few weeks.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Any solutions or advice?
    Thanks!

It's actually your subwoofers fault. I have a Samsung wireless subwoofer and it uses 2.4 and 5ghz the same frequencies WiFi use, it is supposed to pick a channel that isn't used. It occasionally goes out for a split second.
    2.4 has channels like 1-12
5 has like 5 channels something like 145-150 or something
Your subwoofer is picking the same channel your wifi router is using. Wait I just say you said you checked your WiFi channel. Was your router on "Auto" channel selection before you changed it? Does your router support 2.4 and 5ghz? if so are both set to broadcast same network name and password?
On a computer go to http://tools.meraki.com/stumbler and see how many routers are near you and what channels they are using. What kind of router do you use?

  • Can't connect internet wirelessly with OSX 10.5.6

My G4 connected internet wirelessly with OSX 10.3.9. After I loaded OSX 10.5.6 my computer does not recognize nor connect wirelessly with my home network. It connects fine with ethernet. Please help.

I found the trouble was my base modem. My DSL carrier had to upgrade the software on the modem. This solved the problem.

We want to make sure you get service in your home Astromandata! I can check your area to see if you qualify for the network extender. What's your zip code? If it does qualify than you will be able to use it for your Lumia to support your voice services. Find out more information here: http://spr.ly/6585fNlt Is anyone else having this issue?

On the computer you should be able to go to the network properites. Go to the TCP part and unchec the line that says obtaind DNS automatically and check the one that says use the following. Add the 8.8.8.8 and Google other 8.8.4.4.

  • Can I extend my Sky wireless signal with an AirPort Express?

    Hi,
I recently got an AirPort Express in the hope that I would be able to extend my wireless signal to areas that currently have a weak and unreliable signal from my Sky SR101 router.  I am currently able to do this with an old Belkin 'Wireless G Universal Range Extender' but it is not ideal - it's quite temperamental, it has to be reset from time to time and it also provides pretty low speeds.  I've tried configuring the basics for the AirPort Express but can't seem to get it to work.  I've seen on the forums that some people think it is impossible to extend a non-Apple base station's signal with an AirPort Express while others have managed to get it to work.  I would suspect that if I am able to do it with an outdated Belkin range extender I should be able to with a brand new AirPort Express - I don't know!
    Very grateful for any thoughts/comments/solutions.
    Thanks for reading.

Perhaps have one connected to the Sky router with an Ethernet cable and then boost the signal from that one with the other?  Would that work?
If the 1st Gen AirPort Express really is a 1st Gen, then yes, you could do this.
Check on the side of the AirPort Express for the model number.....hard to see in the faint print.....so you may need a magnifying glass.
A 1st Gen AirPort Express is model number A1264.

  • Macbook low wireless signal strength with Time Capsule

    Hi,
I have a macbook (2,1) 1,83 Ghz connected to my brand new Time Capsule 1 TB in 802.11b/g/n compatible mode. I have also my iPhone hooked up to my Time Capsule through wireless network.
I have issues on the macbook with the wifi, sometimes it drops and sometimes it is really slow.
So I just checked on Time Capsule under the "Wireless Clients" tab in "Logs and statistics" to see the signal strength I get.
I put both iPhone and macbook next to the Time Capsule, here are the results of the signal strength:
I get a signal strength in dBm of :
    -27 for the macbook !!
    66 for the iphone !!
    Here is a screenshot: http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/3853/timcacapsulehm6.png
Please help, I think I have a problem either with macbook or Leopard 10.5.2 ??

The Time Capsule will provide more wireless signal coverage if you connect it permanently to the Virgin modem/router using a wired Ethernet connection. Ethernet cabling can be run up to 300 feet or 100 meters with virtually no loss, so you should be able to locate the Time Capsule where it will be needed.
Configure the Time Capsule to create a new network that uses the same wireless network name and password as the Virgin wireless network and you will have, in effect, one "big" network.
