Wireless Software Update Freezing

why does my blackberry 8520, on a wireless software update, stop at 99% and just sit there? i've left if over night and come back and it still sits there... i've done a hard restart on it several times and will restart automatically and stop again at 99%.. i try to access it with the desktop software so i can back it up onto my computer, but the back up won't run now.. is there a way to stop the WSU from running so i can get my phone working again??
help me please before i lose my mind..

I don't know the "why". Maybe there's something that's hanging on the final activation.
If I were you, I'd scrap it and install the upgrade manually, which in my opinion is WAY more reliable for upgrading.
You didn't say what OS release it was... but, if you're on the 8520 model, the latest official upgrade is 5.0.0.900,

Device operating system releases are "released" by specific carriers once they have certified and trained their support techs, but still, you are able to load to any carrier's same model by following the instructions below.
1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

  • Software Update Freezing

I have been having problems with the software update (security, itunes, quicktime). Everytime I begin the process, it freezes my computer completely.
Does anyone know where the half file is stored so I can delete it and try to start fresh? or have any other suggestions?
    thanks!

    jakeswit:
    Try this:
    Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
Then Repair Disk Permissions in Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Then go to Apple Menu > Software Update and try again.
Or else you can download the standalone update from this page and install, repairing disk permissions before and after installation.
    Good luck.

  • Mac OS X 10.6.6 Software Update Freezes

I am currently running Mac OS X 10.6.6.  When running Software update three updates are available OS X 10.6.7, Safari and iTunes.  However I update individually or all together the process freezes with the bar showing approximately 100% and the status as writing files.  Have tried deleting contents of updates folder before running update.  Have also fixed permissions but with no luck!

I can't offer you a direct fix for your problem, but you might consider going to Apple's update download page, downloading the updates you need, and installing them manually.
The OS X 10.6.7 "combo" update is here.
As a matter of routine practice, I'd also use Disk Utility to do "verify disk" and "repair permissions" operations before you try to install the OS X update.

  • Zerizon Wireless Software Update Assistant

I have installed Zerizon's Software Update Assistant for my LG Revere Basic Phone. I have downloaded and install updates when I'm told there is an update for my VN150 with no problem but this morning I got and update notice and hooked my wireless up to download. It started to download and then if froze. Now all I can get is the white screen with the Verizon Logo, the LG Logo and the message: Downloading...Do not unplug
I've tried unplugging, restarting and taken the battery out and re-inserting. It goes back the that screen. I can't turn it off or anything.

        Hi roperdoug,
I trust that your wireless phone issue has been resolved by now. Unplugging your phone and removing the battery for 30 seconds will most likely allow you to power on again. If you continue to experience the same software update issue, please do a Master Reset http://goo.gl/ucqOD and then attempt to update your device.
Let us know if this resolves your concerns.

  • HT1338 My software updater freezes when "Checking for new software..." and then fans speed up.

Whenever I run software update, the blue bar freezes at about a fourth of the way across while "Checking for new software..." and then the fans sometimes speed up until I click Cancel. Sometimes it eventually completes "Checking for new software..." but when it does it is usually 45 minutes to an hour later. What gives?

If I reinstall the OS, will that jeopardize my data, docs or photo library?
No.  Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down) and first select Disk Utility to  repair disk permissions and the disk.  Reboot and try the App Store again.
If that fails boot again into the Recovery volume again and reinsatll the system.  Your data and photos will not be jeoparadized.

  • Software update freezes Help please

for over a month now, when I go to see if there are any software updates it freezes every time. is there somthing that I could do, to get it working again? thanks for the help

    Jeres8860,
While it's not supposed to have remained a problem past 10.3.5, do you have Times RO font installed?

  • Software update freeze

After restarting my (other) Mac, a MacBook is stuck trying to install "13 items." The cursor moves but the status bar showing progress hasn't gone up at all. What should I do?

when it finished installing them, it said that you can restart now or later.
For system component updates, Leopard does not start the update until you say it is OK to restart. So chances are good that the update was not installed, since it stalled at configuring.
If it is still stalled, I would shut it down by pushing and holding the start button. Then restart as you normally would. Run Disk Utility and use the +Repair Disk Permissions+ routine.
You may also want to startup from your Leopard installation disk, at the first Installer screen (after language selection), run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. This time, run +Repair Disk+ on your startup drive to ensure there are no disk directory errors.
Try the update again using Software Update.

  • Software Update Freezes While Updating OS

    Hello Community,
MacBook Pro: Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM
I'm sure others have had this problem and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a reason for it.
For quite a while, at least since installing Snow Leopard, when I try to install OS updates using the Software Update program the same sequence of events occurs:
    1) The Updater thermometer appears and increases rapidly at first while 'Writing Files' appears above.
    2) Gradually the thermometer slows down as it reaches its final 1/4.
    3) As the thermometer gets to the end it slows down exponentially until,
    4) The thermometer appears to have reached the end but nothing further happens, and
    5) I have to manually shut down the machine and reboot.
I have worked around this problem by downloading the installer directly from Apple, avoiding Software Update, and the installations have proceeded as expected and without incident.  But, why is Software Update not completing the installation?
    Thanks,
    JAClay

If you cannot boot into the recovery partition or Internet recovery I suggest a last gasp attempt.
    Try SMC and PRAM resets:

    http://web.archive.org/web/20140711222006/http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    Then try a Safe Boot:

If no success, an appointment at an Apple store genius bar becomes the best option.
    Ciao.

  • Software update freezes at "moving items into place"

Do the usual update procedure, but Software Update gets to the "moving items into place" point and hangs. You can't press "stop" you can't quit you can only turn off the machine by pressing and holding the on/off button.

Try booting into Safe Mode, hold down left side shift key when booting, hold untill you see the progress bar (note this will take longer than normal, so be patient)
Log in open disk utilities (Applications>Utilities.Disk utility.app) rhen select (highlght) your volume in the left side bar, click repair permissions.
The run software update again and try the install while in safe mode, if sucessful log out (this will take a little longer as well) and log back normally.

  • Software update freezes at running package scripts

I have owned this mini for two months. When I first brought it home, it required a software update. That failed and the computer quit working. Had to return it to the dealer for repairs. 2 weeks.
Today, I received the next software update message. Without thinking, I accepted it. Now the update has been stuck on "running package scripts" for 45 minutes.
Unfortunately, I did not look to see what was being updated. I have no idea what or how big.
I cannot find any information in the forums regarding what to do, but my only option is power off. To do the update, I logged out and did a restart. There is no way for me to kill this process and manually clean up the install directories.
Two software updates and two failed updates. Last time it physically harmed my computer.
    Any suggestions?

Just had the same problem. What I did to fix this was to log in with SSH and kill the Safari process. Looks as if having Safari running when starting the update (noticed the update was for Safari) prevents it from completing.

  • Software update freezes?

    Hi guys.
I have just restored a macbook with Leopard. I have just done a software update and it seemed to complete perfectly. It restarts the check for new software and it holds as soon as it starts (with the blue bar still showing movement).
I have repaired disc permissions, done a disc repair and installed a manual update to nudge it along and no change.
Any idea's and could someone just do an update on theirs which should show there are no new updates so at least I know whether it's Apples server.
    Thanks in advance.

It would appear to be a cache issue. I just cleared the cache with OnyX 2.0.3 and the update has corrected itself.

  • Software Update - Freezes - Curve 9300

I have been trying to complete the software update for BB Curve 9300 but it is locked with a message = "Update requires additional memory. Removing older data."
This message has been on for close to 12 hours!
How do I stop this. All keys are locked. I can turn off the phone but when I turn it back on I get the same message.
    Assistance please!!

Update - the screen went white and said (I believe as the text was very small) App err. I turned off the phone and all seems OK. EXCEPT the update icon still shows a star - and shows download is complete - but I need to install it and I don't want to do this as I don't want my phone locked up again for another 12 hours. It is the update 6.0 Bundle 2647.
    Guidance please!

  • Keyboard Software Update Freezing During Install

    Hi,
I'm, rather belatedly, trying to install KeyboardSoftwareUpdate 1.2 on my PPC G5 running 10.4.11. The keyboard is wired and the problem, which I've read is curable with this update, is that none of the function keys like for volume or brightnesss, etc. work. Every time I try to install this update, the installation freezes after Select Drive and before letting me move on to choosing Installation Type. At this point, I then have to force quit the application. The drive I've been choosing (and which is also the only option for installation) has plenty of space on it. I've had no other issues with any other installations that I can recall. Suggestions? Thanks

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    Try the install again.
I think Spark cured this FN key thing for another person and the same problem...
