Wireless suddenly stops working, no idea why......

Over the last two days, my wireless router has just kinda stopped working.  I've lived in a two story home since April and when I had my services moved over, the router was placed in an area where it would be about the same distance from devices on either side of the house.   We've had absolutely no problems since the installation 5-6 months ago.  This is with Computers/Laptops upstairs and down, as well as gaming consoles and an iPad.
Everything has worked seemlessly....until about two days ago.  
Out of nowhere, literally....most of our devices upstairs away from the router couldn't even find the network at all and the ones downstairs were extremely slow.  
After contacting Verizon and troubleshooting it (to no avail), they've decided to ship me out a new router which I guess will be here next week but I just am having trouble understanding why it just stops working out of nowhere.  The router hasn't been moved nor have any settings been changed.  
The guy on the phone had me reset the battery box out in my garage and that did absolutely nothing but after doing some research on my own, it seems the router/modem is a piece of junk and tends to quit working after a little while. 
When I hardwire myself into the router, it works without fail but the wireless aspect of it has just curled up and died on me over the last few days and I'm simply at a loss as to why and how this isn't something I should be able to correct on my own. 
I have Fios and I pay for one of the higher speed packages, I don't recall which off hand but the router that I have Actiontec MI424-WR Ref F. 
Anybody else have issues with this thing dying?  If so, any way to fix it/make it work?  
I understand that Verizon has shipped a "new" router to me but it won't be arriving until probably next week and I have to get this figured out sooner than that for my online classes if at all possible.  
Halfway tempted to just go buy a modem/router.....

Log into the Westell at http://192.168.1.1/ (same goes for ActionTecs) and visit the Wireless Settings. Disable Automatic Channel Selection, and choose Channels 1, 6, or 11 to use, whichever gives the best performance, range and stability. Make sure, before applying the settings you ensure a check box for Remembering your settings through reboots is checked, this way the settings remain permanent.
The FiOS routers should be using a login of admin for the username, and the router's serial number as the password.

    - model: Satellite 300D -11V / Windows Vista
    - wireless has worked perfectly in the past and no update/changes have recently been made
    - wireless switched on and orange

    What Satellite notebook you have exactly?
    To be honest its not easy to say that the reason is. Such problems with WLAN have lot of different reasons but at first I would try a WLAN driver update from Toshiba page:

    After last upgrade, the wireless stopped working. I'm using broadcom-wl.
    I recompiled broadcom-wl with the new kernel it still doesn't work.

  • Qmaster Suddenly Stopped Working... why?!?!

    Ok.. So I set up Qmaster yesterday to work across three macs.... two MBPs and one MacPro as the controller.
    Was working beautifully until this afternoon. Not sure what has changed, but now I can't set up the cluster in Qadministrator.
    I just did a full reinstall of OSX and FCS on the MacPro plus all updates through software update... still not working... not sure how much fresher I could get.
    I started by trying to create a cluster with just the mac pro as the controller but nothing else, allowing the 8 cores to be used.... when I click apply, a second cluster shows up in the top left panel of QA... when I exit and go to compressor, neither the new mystery cluster or the cluster I created appear as options.
    When I go back to QA, the cluster is still there, but now it requires a mystery password to access. I try my system password, but that's not it.... and I didn't create a password when I set it up.
    Seriously annoyed at having just spent about 5 hours between trouble shooting and a full reinstall of the OS.
    Any ideas???

    For now I've managed to fix the issue. I cleared the cache directory on the controller system... then reset compressor and qmaster on all three systems... then rebuilt the cluster in qadministrator... then mounted the three systems to each other in the finder (all the drives that had either cache directories or original footage on them).... it now seems to work.
    All three systems running FCP 6.05, OSX 10.5.6, latest version of QT.

    I have an Envy 20 all in one touchscreen with a wireless keyboard which has been absolutley fantastic until now.  The wireless keyboard suddenly stopped working while composing an email.  I replaced the batteries and checked them with a volt meter to ensure 1.5v. They are a name brand alkiline battery.  I tried re-booting the computer and pressing the blue connect button under the keyboard.  The only keys that seem to work are the volume up/down and mute; the rest of teh keyboard does not.  Any idea?  I like the factory keyboard so I am hoping it is not a faulty keyboard.  After market keyboards will use a USB port.

    Now if this does not work and you have to replace the keyboard do not fear you can replace the keyboard and the dongle without using another USB port as the one that is in can be replaced.     If they do nothing at all, double check system preferences/speech and make sure they have not somehow gotten set as the trigger for Text to speech or speech recognition, etc.
    Also try an external keyboard.  If it works ok, then your internal keyboard is probably damaged and needs repair or replacement.

Is this because of some recent software update by Apple? 8x8 support acknowledges issues with no current work-arounds? The 8x8 desktop app worked until early December, then quit. I've deleted and re-downloaded the app, but no difference.

    The solution is :
    1. Delete iPhone configuration utility. Just drop it to the trash
    2. Run
    sudo rm -rf /private/var/db/receipts/com.apple.pkg.iPhoneConfigurationUtility.*
    rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoneConfigurationUtility.plist*
    3. Delete the whole folder: /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext
    4. Reinstall iTunes (just over the previous one)
    5. Restart

    Do you get sound on any apps e.g. Music and Videos but not others ? If you do then have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
    Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar.     We can't know. You have not told us what exactly the problem is. If there are any warnings, you need to provide them along with other info like the crash logs. If not you have to explain the situation in more detail. Just saying that it doesn't work anymore is not particularly useful.

    We need clarification here.
    Please don't just state version numbers, also state which software.  iTunes 10.7 requires OSX 10.6.8 or higher.  Leopard is OSX 10.5.8.  You have two alternatives right now.  One is to stay with Leopard for a while (ultimately you should upgrade) and install iTunes 10.6.3 which is the last version to work with Leopard.  This should work with iOS6 on an iPhone4.  The other is to call Apple and order OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and upgrade the computer to 10.6.8 which will allow you to run iTunes 10.7.  The caveat is we know nothing about which computer you run and if it even can run any system higher than Leopard.

    If you want to try upgrading:
    Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About this Mac" and "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).  If it says something about Intel or Core Duo or Core 2 Duo in the processor you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (assuming you have sufficient RAM/"memory").  If it says PPC or PowerMac, you cannot.
