Wireless switch turned off.. Satellite A660

Hello,
My mother has had this A660 Satellite for a year or three now, recently we had a harddrive failure that we got fixed at a computer repair shop, however they seem to have not fully reinstalled all the drivers..
My main problem is that suddenly on Sunday my father turned on this laptop and the internet wouldn't connect.
I've been trying to reconnect it and it keeps telling me the Wireless Capability Switch is turned off. As far as I'm aware there is no "physical" switch, but I do know of the wireless "soft button" on the front panel as well as the fn+f8, neither work.
Fn+f8 doesn't even show a "wireless" option at the top, it just skips F8 all together, and the soft button is always light up, when i push it, it dims for a moment and lights back up.. but nothing happens.
I've also tried restoring the BIOS settings to default after doing a system "restart" i believe it's called..(unplugging everything + battery and holding power for 15 seconds), running a system restore to before the issue, reinstalling several drivers (WAN, LAN, WLAN, TVAP, RealTek Wireless Driver).... so far nothing has worked.. Any suggestions on what I could possibley do?
Thanks,
Livi
Solved!
Go to Solution.

There is one other thing to try (no effect on the buttons but may turn wireless on). Go to C:/Program Files/Toshiba/TBS/TBSWireless.exe. Toggling the TBSWireless.exe file ,if you have it, will turn the wireless on/off. That is the final straw, Livi.  The only thing left will be a complete HDD/OS  recovery to out-of-box state the day you first started the machine. Read your USER'S GUIDE starting on page 61 to find out what that entails and what you must do to prepare for it.
Good Luck!

Has lock rotation been accidentally enabled within the control centre? If you swipe up the screen is there a circle with a lock symbol & if so is is greyed out or white - if white it is enabled.

  • This past month I have been having problems connecting to my home wireless connection. Previously I had no problems whatsoever. I have tried unplugging the wireless router, turning off the wirless airport, deleting the network name from my list of server

This past month I have been having problems connecting to my home wireless connection. I have a MacBook Pro OSX Version 10.6.8. Previously I had no problems whatsoever. I have tried unplugging the wireless router, turning off the wirless airport, deleting the network name from my list of servers and trying to reconnect this way. These methods have worked temporarily, but the same problem keeps coming back. Most of the time my personal wireless connection does not even come up among the list of available networks. My fellow flatmates have PCs and both of them are able to connect to the network without problem.
The router is a d-link model DIR-615. I am not tech savy, so if any other information need to be provided in order to better understand my situation, please let me know.
    Please help me!

If I open the list of networks in a window it says "connection timeout," but if I just select it from the drop down it tries for awhile and then stops with no prompt. When I try to run network diagnostics it says "sorry, we can't connect to the internet" (or some solution-free variation of that)

  • M276nw wireless radio turns off

Every day after work, my brand-new M276nw's wireless radio turns off. The blue wireless light blinks, and the printer needs to be restarted for it to work again. All ecoSMART settings are turned off, and otherwise everything seems to be fine.

Sarten, sounds like you are having some issues with your printer and your network. Have you tried re-running the wireless setup wizared and then applying a static/manual IP address? Here is an informational video on the basics of how to do this.

  • Power & Wireless LEDs turn off on WRT54GX2

Over the past week, this has happened 6 times: the power and wireless LEDs turn off, the ethernet(1) and internet LEDs flicker like mad.  While it's like that, all LAN and WAN traffic is disabled.  It is connected to a DSL modem and the LEDs there appear normal.  If I cycle power on the router, it returns to normal.  I have not yet connected this behavior to any special events on my LAN.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

You should Upgrade your router's firmware...
    Download Firmware 3.70 MB...Firmware Ver.1.01.22...
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Wireless adapter turned off, wont enable

Hi, I got this Lenovo x201 AC4 yesterday. I installed Ubuntu 11.04, used the wireless till today morning. But then suddenly the wireless icon with LED turned off and wont turn on again and I cannot access any network right now.
    Tried restarting, but no help.
It got disabled when the laptop was running on battery battery power.
I saw another similar thread, but the questioneer was using Windows. As the wireless adapter is turned off, I cannot even find and re-enable it from inside ubuntu.
    Any help?
Update: The wifi led doesnt blink at the time of POST. The bluetooth one does.

I am not sure if I can really help you (I do not have a x201), but since no one else answered yet. I try to give some advices.
The most easiest way to activate the Wireless adapter on Ubuntu is on the right upper corner of your desktop in the wireless menu. but i assume that did not function.
A second method to enable Wireless is to activate it with the key combination Fn+F5, by pressing multiple times you activate and deactivate wireless and bluetooth. Pressing once activates Wireless.
there is also the possibility you deactivated wireless by switching the button on the left side just right from your yellow usb-port. Thats a hardware switch for your wireless, when turned of there is no possibility to activate wireless unless you switch it from red position to green position.
sorry thats all, if there is a driver problem i can not help...

  • Wireless radio turns off every 2 minutes

I have a Thinkpad Z60t, running Windows XP.
I have the physical wireless switch on the side panel set to the on position (i.e. to the right).
Initially, I am able to connect to any wireless network without a problem. However, after about 2 minutes of not actively using the internet, the green "wireless radio" status light on the front panel turns off and I lose my internet connection. I then have to do "Fn + F5" (or ThinkVantage button -> Manage My Connections -> Power On/Off Wireless Radios) to turn it back on (and get the status light to be green again). I then have to reconnect to the wireless network.
I believe this is a common issue. I have tried several suggestions I found on other forums, including ThinkVantage button -> Manage My Connections -> Select Location Profiles -> Open Access Connections -> Configure -> Location Switching -> UNSELECT "Enable automatic location switching". This method actually seemed to work for a few hours, but then stopped.
I am certain that my wireless network is stable - my roommate's laptop does not lose the signal every 2 minutes like I do. I think my laptop's wireless radio automatically shuts off after 2 minutes of no use, and this feature needs to be disabled somehow.
Please help. I am getting frustrated of having to manually reconnect every 2 minutes.

  • Dhcpcd consumes a lot of CPU when wireless switch is off

If I turn my hardware wireless switch off, dhcpcd goes crazy and uses a CPU core completely. Checking with htop, the command being run is:
    dhcpcd -4qL -t 30 wlp13s0
where wlp13s0 is my wireless interface. I'm using netctl-auto to connect to the network.
It goes back to normal as soon as I turn the switch back on.
The network configuration under /etc/netctl to which it was connected before I turned the switch off is
    Description='Automatically generated profile by wifi-menu'
    Interface=wlp13s0
    Connection=wireless
    Security=wpa
    ESSID="network"
    IP=dhcp
    Key="password"
Is there anything I can do so that dhcpcd won't try to use all my CPU in such cases?
    EDIT (2014.05.28):
I looked in the following wiki pages, but couldn't find anything about this issue:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Br … leshooting
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dhcpcd
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … figuration
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Netctl
I couldn't find anything about dhcpcd and cpu usage in the forums, and searching the web didn't provide any relevant results. Which is bad, since anatolik found this:
    https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/39512
    which I didn't.

ondoho wrote:Have you tried connecting to the network manually, then pressing the switch?
If I turn the switch on after turning it off, I must connect manually using netctl (that is, netctl-auto doesn't connect automatically in this case). After doing that, turning the switch back off does not cause the problem. Which is weird, since the process is still there, like before
I also noticed that it is no longer possible to use netctl-auto after turning the switch off, as it no longer see any configuration (running `netctl-auto list` as root returns nothing, while before it returned 2 items).
ondoho wrote:how did you install and activate wireless
I basically followed this wiki page:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … f_profiles
I first generated the profiles with wifi-menu and by copying /etc/netctl/examples/ethernet-dhcp, and then activated netctl-auto using
    # systemctl enable [email protected]
    # systemctl enable [email protected]

Yes, it looks very similar.  It is said there that the problem should be fixed since 2014-04-01 11:48:57, but I just checked for updates with pacman and I already have the most recent version (6.3.2).  I will see if I can add any relevant information to that page.
I did notice that my wireless interface disappears when I turn the switch off (ifconfig doesn't show it anymore), and it only reappears when I reconnect manually. I'm not sure if that is expected, since the commit that should have solved the problem says:
On a read error, remove the FD from eloop. This shouldn't happen really

  • Tecra A11's wireless capability turns off several times a day

I have a Tecra A11 S3540 and it has started to shut off the wireless capability by itself. The switch is in the on position and I have updated all the Network Adapter Drivers.
What should I do to correct this problem as it is difficult to do any work on the laptop!!

I have the exact same problem as Dink, and don't know what to do.
I'm trying to disable WLAN, and seeing if that works, and since the last replyee didn't tell you how, go to start, search for '*device manager*'. Then open that and double click on *'network adapters*'. One of those is your WLAN thingy. Double click your WLAN card and go to '*power management*' and uncheck the box that says "*Turn off this device to save power*." I did that for the 4 devices within network adapters because I wasn't sure which one to change.
Hope this helps, for my sake and yours.

  • Tactic3D Rage Wireless Constantly Turns Off while Charging

I got the Tactic3D Rage Wireless a couple of years ago and it has had many problems from the time I received it. I eventually got the others fixed, or mostly fixed, but this one has been annoying me increasingly in the past few months.
The headset not only rapidly connects and disconnects with Windows 8 (I think it is a problem with windows and not the headset for this one), but it also turns off the second I turn it on while charging. This makes the headset completely useless when I am charging it. This would not be as bad, but now the headset will not actually charge when it is on its charger. After it "charges" for a few hours, I take it off of the charger and I immediately begin to hear the beeping, notifying me that the headset is low on battery.
I finally made an account on these forums after a couple of days failing at searching for this problem with others so now I am posting this. Help is greatly needed for I don't want to be forced to spend more money on another headset if I can get this one fixed. Please reply with any questions I have not answered, and have a good day.

    Hi Logo594
You may want to refer to this article, specifically the last paragraph of the article regarding charging.
    http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowA...spx?sid=111092
You also mentioned that this headset is at least a couple of years old, so it is possible that the battery
does not hold its charge well. If this still does not work, You may contact Support here.

  • Fix for Wireless Capability Turned Off

If you have lost your wireless connection (Wi-Fi) and pressing the wireles button on your laptop doesn't fix it, do this:
Download and install HP Connection Manager.
After 8 hours of screwing with this I am so happy to report my Wi-Fi has been turned back on.  The antenna button did not work.  It only turned the Bluetooth on and off.  My wireless connection had a red X on it and the troubleshooter told me straight up that my "Wireless capability is turned off", but gave me no way to turn it back on.  In Windows Mobility Center the Wireless Network clearly showed it was off, but the button to turn it on was greyed out.  I updated the BIOS and wireles drivers, but that did nothing.  Then I downloaded and installed HP Connection Manager and rebooted.  I opened up HP CM and there was a button that showed the wireless was off.  I pushed it and the wireless turned on.  That easy.  Or rather, after hours and hours of pain, it turned on.  My next step would have been to go through the BIOS to see if somehow from there the Wi-Fi had been disabled, but I did not need to go that far.
Good luck people.  Hopefully this thread will save you some time.

    Hi there @MUKESHCP,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that your wireless connection is no longer working for you for a day or so. I am happy to help with this.
Just to be clear, the WLAN connection was working prior to you installing the Bluetooth driver, or am I misunderstanding? If it was working  just prior to your Bluetooth install, then it would be worth your while, to try a system restore to a point just before you installed that driver, and see if the WLAN is working again.
Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7)
If that does not help then I would recommend downloading the driver for your WLAN adapter from the support page for your notebook: HP Pavilion dv3536tx Entertainment Notebook PC - Software & Drivers
There are two drivers available for Windows 7, and if you are not sure which adapter you have, you can check within Device Manager, although it is likely it is showing as an unknown device. In that case, try each drive, one at a time and see if it helps. Also look through the following page, directly related to your problem as you described it:
Resolving Universal WLAN, Wireless, and Wi-Fi Errors
Between those, you should be able to resolve the Red X on the icon. If not, it is possible that the wlan adapter has become faulty. If that happens, you can either look at calling HP for a replacement part, or you can try a USB wireless adapter.
Let me know if this helps at all.

  • Retina Macbook Pro Graphics Jittery and worse with graphic switching turned off

I recently updated my computer I've been running Mountain Lion since it was available. But recently I performed the apple updates (which I don't think had anything to do with graphics) and suddenly everything is jittery, choppy and freaking out. I could be wrong but just suddenly the other day everything was super choppy.
Turning off "Automatic Graphics Switching" actually makes it every MORE jittery and choppy. I have to keep it on otherise I cannot even scroll a webpage with out the jittery making it impossible to see anything until I stop scrolling.
I notice the choppness when using expose, switching desktops, sometimes when scrolling in Google Chrome (Definately when the AGS is turned off), going into full screen app mode, and my top bar lags and you can see it flash when it refreshes itself.
I've tried clearing my PRAM with no luck and also tried an SMC reset, again with no luck.
Any thoughts? This is incredibly annoying!

I was able to fix the graphics by the following:
    Creating a time machine backup
creating a bootable Mountain lion SD Memory card (I didn't have a USB sick available)
    Booted into the recorvery manager
    Erased the disk
reinstalled Mountain lion from the SD Card
Imported my data from Time machine. IMPORTANT: I didn't included any settings or "other settings" I just moved ONLY apps and files
My desktop appeared to be just as it was before, all apps and everything in the correct place (Go Time machine!)
    Programs with issues after re-install:
AutoCAD 2013 for mac had some folder issue, AutoDesk had a workaround (I just uninstalled it, I don't use it much)
Virtual Box running a Windows 7 install completely crapped out (I never wanted to use Windows on my Mac anyways)
Mail app had to re-initialize, but all settings and account information was saved. Just had to wait for it to download the all the emails from my accounts again
That's all I found so far! I'm glad to have the screen animations back to felling like butter. Makes me love my Mac all over again!

  • T61 Wireless Repeatedly Turns Off Windows Control

Upgraded firmware in my wireless router, and now my T61 can't connect wirelessly.
Wireless Network Connection is properly identified, Signal Strength is Excellent, speed is 54 Mbps. Status is Limited or no connectivity.
Something keeps turning off my Wireless Zero Configuration Service. EIf I start it manually, and check off "Use Windoes to configure my wireless network setting,", I get wireless access back. But those actions get reversed when I reboot the computer.
    What can be causing this?
In case it's relevant, the Lenovo PC Doctor 5 wireless troubleshooting test fails on the TCP/IP Network Connection Test, saying "Cannot Run". That happens even if I've gotten my wireless connection working.

    Hello,
Have you tried upgrading the ThinkPad T61's wireless drivers as well?  If so, did that make any difference?

  • Wireless connections turns off automatically

I download some new updates about a month and a half ago. Since those updates I am not able to get onto my wireless network. Sometimes it come up when I turn the computer on but it will lose the connection other times it won't be on when I turn on the computer. If it does lose the connection I have to turn my airport off and then on again, manually go into system preferences and click on network and then go through the locations and it will turn right back on again. It never did this before those updates. I've also called the mac support line and took it into the mac store and they both didn't know what to do with the problem so they sent me home. Also isn't anyone else having problems where their ichat turns off at certain times of the day?? Also does anyone know if the mouse is covered under warrenty because the ball doesn't let me scroll anymore.
OH my teacher suggested I create a new user and that should solve the network problem....what do you think???
    Thanks

nicole, there are many threads about something wrong with the 10.4.8 update that seems to cause airport outtages. See this thread and compare if it is the same trouble you're seeing: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=749945&tstart=0

  • HP Photosmart Plus B209a-m - Wireless Radio turned off

I am trying to set up my printer with the new router.  When I turned on my printer, the green wireless light comes on.  When I run the Network Test, I get the message "The Wireless radio on your HP printer is currently turned OFF. To connect wirelessly, you must turn ON the wireless radio on your HP printer.  Then the wireless light goes out.
I can't figure out how to turn on the wireless radio.  Help!

Setting a static IP address may help this issue:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you know what that is, set an IP outside that range but no higher than 254 (the last number in the address). If you do not know this, enter the current IP address.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.
